This read almost like a fairytale to me, or maybe a Disney movie. It sort of made me feel like I was reading Sabrina, which I LOVE that movie. Except more contemporary since the original Sabrina was well before cellphones ;).

Ava and Benjamin have known each other for years; Ava the gardener’s daughter and Benjamin the pampered son of the rich family where Ava lived. Ava is an angel. She needs money to help her father with bills but she still is a social worker in a lower income community and is such a saint with everything she does. Even when she has to marry rich, she is still providing her support and working at the center. Which makes me love her more.

Benjamin is a total snob. There’s brief glimpses of the boy he might have been but ultimately, his “status” makes him look down his nose at Ava. Until finally, his perspective has changed and that’s 100% due to Ava.

A great book by a new to me author!

My fingers brush the smooth copper coin reminding me that I have a second mission to complete. I pinch the coin between my fingers and walk toward the concierge desk. Just like I hoped she would, there stands one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. Standing around 5’4, the golden-haired beauty has curves in all the right places. She’s soft around the edges, but I can tell by the way her uniform fits her body that she’s got a sexy as fuck body underneath. Today, her thick locks are pulled low in the back, but her waves fall over her shoulder. I’d love to give that hair a yank in the throes of passion. Shit, I’d love to do a lot of things to this girl.

I’ve flirted with Lucy for a while now, and she’s one of my favorite parts of visiting the building. I’m not a shy man, and I enjoy a good romp between the sheets, but Lucy, I could tell right off the bat is the kinda girl you don’t have meaningless romps with. Nah. She’s a take-home-to-your-momma kind of girl.

My mom would love her.

Maybe, one of these days I’ll ask her out. Heck, I don’t even know if she has a boyfriend or not. It’s never stopped me from flirting, but flirting is harmless. The lady seems damn good at her job, maybe she is just that good at dealing with flirts like me every day.

I come to a stop in front of her, leaning my arm on the desk.

“Heya, Lucy. Seen any tangerine trees or marmalade skies lately?” The Beatles reference earns me a stunning smile.

“Hi Kevin, how are you today?”

I give her my sexiest smirk. “I’m better now that I’m seeing your gorgeous face.” My words hit their mark, and Lucy’s cheeks turn a sexy shade of pink.

“Okay, Mr. Charmer.” She giggles a bit. I always feel like an accomplished mother fucker when I get a girl to giggle. Especially a girl like Lucy, she’s not a giggler. Which is something I dig about her. Besides her looks, she seems to be whip-smart and down to Earth. Most likely, she doesn’t come from money, or why would she be working this gig? She has to deal with the rich and spoiled day in and day out, and she doesn’t lose her cool. I’ve seen her in action, and I’ve seen the way some of the residents treat her. I’ve had to bite my tongue a few times. As Jake has reminded me, this place is private property, I can be banned from the building.

I snap my finger, pretending to recall something important. “I actually have a gift for you.”

Two dainty eyebrows arch in surprise as I lift the penny between my thumb and forefinger.

“A penny?” Her tone is full of amusement.

“Yup. I found a penny outside the building. You know what they say, “If you find a penny, pick it up, if it’s heads, you’ll have good luck.” I smirk as I finish the saying. Pleased with the soft smile that plays at her kissable lips.

“You know, I’ve never told anyone this before…” She leans toward me and lowers her voice as if she doesn’t want anyone to hear. “When I see a penny on the ground, if I notice its tails up, I lean down and flip it over. Hopefully, I can help someone else find a little good luck.”

My heart slams against my chest. Her words nearly cause me to stumble. Who is this woman? She takes the time to flip over a penny just in case the next person who comes along can find a lucky penny? Why does hearing this nearly shatter my charming, nothing gets to me-exterior?

Why?

Because I do the exact same thing.

I clear my throat.

“Don’t worry, Lucy girl, your secret is safe with me.” I extend my hand toward her, and she holds out her hand. I carefully place the penny in her open palm and slowly drag my fingers across her bare hand. I’m expecting the sizzle from our touch, but I don’t miss Lucy’s reaction to our chemistry when I hear her tiny intake of breath.

She closes her hand around the lucky penny and pulls her fist in toward her chest, holding it to her heart.

I read this book immediately after book 1 and I still need to re-read them before book 3 because I know I need the immediate gratification. And I have to follow the story of Kace and Aria from start to finish in 1 fell swoop.

This book picks up where book 1 left off. Aria is still trying to find her past and trust Kace again. But because of who he is and who she is, she isn’t sure that Kace wants her or her lineage. But Kace and Aria’s off the charts relationship just leaps off the page.

As with every Lisa Renee Jones book I’ve ever read, the characters and storyline SUCK ME IN! I’m immediately captivated and must read from start to finish what happened. As with every multiple book series, this one ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you BEGGING for more! And that’s definitely what I am doing. September 22 cannot come soon enough!!

This book was so not what I was expecting! I was interested because Makayla (love her name) is working for a pharmaceutical company that she is in the dark pharma world – which is fascinating to me, because I work for a drug monitoring program. So I was in when reading the blurb.

The dark pharma world is just the tip of the iceberg! Although it’s how Makayla ends up getting swept up into this whole thing – which is a little terrifying to be honest because it wouldn’t surprise me if this was something that could happen. Plus it brings Kellan into her life and he was exactly what she needed at the time that Makayla needed him.

This story had highs and lows and everything in between. This was a wild ride from beginning to end and I was sucked in from the beginning!

I liked Jen and Jake’s chemistry, even though they both were keeping secrets from each other. Eventually they worked it out and alls well that ends well :).

Without reading the synopsis, I just knew that Cam and Brody were the main characters. Their hatred for each other (although I hesitate to call it hatred) was so combustible. You could feel their chemistry leaping off the page, to the point, it made me uncomfortable for the people around them. That’s some tension!

The whole group of people in this story and series make me laugh. From Cam and her family, to Brody and his brother, to the nosy townspeople who watch and report on Cam and Brody.

My favorite character might have to be Gary. Just because I like animals and Gary gives zero effs about people. Except for Cam when she is supposed to have fed him. And he will let her know if she’s late. Cam has a good heart, even if she says that it’s the neighborhood who feeds him when it’s actually her who takes care of Gary.

I can’t wait for Sierra’s story. She has such an interesting background and philosophy on life that I must know more! Plus, I want to meet more of Ben.

I swear every Julia Kent book is my most favorite, until the next comes out. But isn’t that the way with any new book by an author you love?

We’ve been conditioned to hate Hasty (I mean Hastings) since the beginning of the series. So this book was LONG coming for me. I wanted to know why she was so snooty and snobby and just generally not nice. So this book was the perfect dive into why and how Hasty was the way she was.

There is one quote in the book that stuck with me and I think summarizes Hasty’s mentality in this story when she is talking with Ian about how being a human being isn’t a competition and when she realized it, “I’ve come to realize that kindness is a better barometer of success than being number one.” I think that’s something EVERYONE needs to realize.

I don’t know who else might have a story but I don’t want to let these characters go. So I hope there’s more <3.

I stop in my tracks as I hear the front door slam. This is it. The plan is in motion. My heart beats faster, and my palms become sweaty as I try my best to remain calm in the denim jean skirt and midriff top that Monroe forced me to change into. I’m sure this is regular attire for her, but it isn’t something I would wear, and I feel very exposed at the moment. Jasen walks in with his briefcase, and immediately, my lungs stop working. He drops the briefcase down in front of him and watches me with the sexiest dark brown eyes I’ve ever seen. This is not the teenaged Jasen I remember. He’s bigger. Sexier. His muscles strain against the blue collared shirt he’s wearing. His sleeves are rolled up, revealing thick biceps. He looks like walking lust and temptation. He turns and opens a cabinet. “How was Philly?”
“Good,” I answer as my body heats from nervousness. And other things.
He closes the cabinet and turns around to face me. He narrows his eyes as he tears the wrapper off the granola bar in his hand. “You’re awfully quiet. Is something wrong?” he asks before taking a bite.
“No, everything’s fine,” I reply.
“How’s your sister?”
“She’s doing great.”
“So, you two are good? You’re speaking again now?”
“Yup.”
“Good, now you can stop talking about how much you hate her.”
“What?” I ask softly.
I’m not sure if I heard him correctly; did he just say that Monroe hated me?
He stops chewing. “Oh, come on, you say it all the time, Monroe. How Morgan was the favorite, and how Grandma Rose always defended her no matter how wrong she was.”
So, I had heard him correctly. I’m instantly angered. Monroe hated me. She betrayed me, so I should be the one hating her, not the other way around. Had I known about this sooner, I would have never agreed to help her. I snap out of it and answer his question. “We worked out our differences. Everything is good now.”
He takes the last bite as he watches me. He swallows and tosses the wrapper in the nearby trash bin as he walks closer. My body stiffens when he stops right in front of me.
Uh-oh!
He’s entirely too close. His lips are mere inches from mine, and I can smell the mixture of peanut butter and chocolate on his breath. I can also smell his cologne. And it’s intoxicating. He places his hand around my waist and gently pulls me to him. “Did you think about my suggestion? Are you willing to try?” he asks.
“Yes,” I answer as my eyes fixate on his.
“So, you’ll go?” he continues.
“Yes,” I answer again, mesmerized by his baritone voice.
“Good. I think it will be good for us,” he responds.
He leans in and kisses me, rendering me powerless. My eyes close and my mouth opens as I allow his tongue to enter. Sparks ignite every nerve ending. His hands make their way under my skirt, and he tugs at my thong, pulling it down. It fall to my ankles, and he lifts me up and on top of the countertop. I’m lost in the moment. It’s been so long since I’ve touched a man, and my body is all too welcoming of Jasen’s hands. My skirt is lifted around my waist, his fingers are between my legs, and he’s kissing my neck softly. “I’ve missed touching you. I want you so bad, Monroe… right here, right now.”
My eyes fly open at the mention of my sister’s name, and I clasp my legs together just as his finger reaches my clit.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“I can’t,” I answer.

I’m not normally a huge forbidden romance fan. Just not my jam. BUT that being said, I absolutely LOVED this story! I read The Deceptive Twin mostly while I should have been sleeping but #insomnia. And then I finished the rest while I was on lunch while working from home because I just needed to know what happened with Morgan/Monroe/Jasen.

I knew from the jump I was not a Monroe fan. And I guess in reading the book, the reader was meant to not be a fan of Monroe and being more pulled towards Team Morgan. And I definitely was pulled. Although truthfully, I was somewhat skeptical of her as well just by reading the synopsis. But that’s my own not liking cheating stories.

I truly did end up liking Morgan and Jasen afterwards while reading the story. And was able to really like the story between Jasen and Morgan. Definitely an author to add to my reading list!

From reading the synopsis, you’d think ok playboy actor who is a manwh*re yada yada. But no. Just no. Andrew is NOT what you are expecting. Which if you’ve read any Max Monroe books, you know these ladies do nothing you expect, except that you will laugh your pants off!

Andrew and Birdie are nothing like you’d think. Every Max Monroe character seems to have sass in spades and Birdie absolutely does and Andrew LOVES and LIVES to drive her to sass master. Plus you will recognize the secondary characters from other Max Monroe books.

Yes, Andrew was a cocky manwh*re. He freely admits that, but it’s his actions that truly helped define him. Even when he was being super arrogant, he was taking care of Birdie and making sure that she was ok. So you can’t really hate the guy.

One book I should not have stayed up reading because it was too funny but I have insomnia anyway so oh well :).

Just in reading the title, you know you’re going to be in for an angsty ride. But with Piper Rayne authoring, you know there’s also going to be some sweet, hot times and some laughs. Which is exactly what Kingston and Stella’s story gives you!

I’ve been waiting for Kingston’s story for a while. I’ve always been intrigued by Kingston, I used to work for a fire department too, so I was really excited to read this smokejumper’s story. So yes, smokejumper, Kingston is a daredevil type and Stella works in an ER, obvious they would reunite but they have such differing personalities. Stella and Kingston were the best of friends as kids, until Stella got together with Owen, their mutual friend.

Now Kingston is back in Lake Starlight and he wants to re-connect with Stella and reignite (or ignite) the fire he felt with Stella and get her feeling it as well.

This might have been one of my favorites of the Baileys, but I can’t say for sure until I read them all 🙂
