Review Tour ~ Wilder Trilogy ~ by ~ Ali Dean

She’s a rising tennis star from a family of con-artists. He’s a football hotshot and devoted to his family. When her path crosses with his family’s, he’s immediately suspicious, and she’s determined to keep her secrets, despite their sizzling chemistry. Fans of Ivy Smoak and Tijan will love this addicting, edge-of-your-seat sports romance.

Wilder Games

It’s match point in the most important tennis match in my life, and nothing can distract me. Nothing, that is, except the sight of Jude Wilder sitting in the stands with his little sister on his lap. He’s never watched me play. Never even noticed me before. And yet his eyes are on me now. I know what he must be thinking. I’m not just an outcast, I’m a social pariah thanks to my family being the town’s most notorious con artists. Jude is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Not only is he accepted, he’s worshipped. I’m nobody to him, and yet I’ve got this chance to impress him. As it turns out, he isn’t at all impressed when I win the match, and I’m worse than a nobody to him. Jude thinks I’m a threat to his family. This should alarm me. It should scare me. Jude in protective mode is hot, all right, but I can’t afford to be on his radar. I’ve got one year to secure a college scholarship. It’s hard enough keeping a low profile with my tennis success, and the last thing I need is Jude Wilder of all people drawing more attention my way. Especially if it’s hostile. Even if I like it.

Wilder Match

One second, the future of my tennis career is brighter than ever; the next, nothing is certain. Nothing, that is, except that I won’t be swinging a racket anytime soon. Jude Wilder wants to come to my rescue. I don’t need rescuing, even if it’s offered by the one guy who ignites a fire inside of me like I’ve only ever felt on the tennis court. I’ve done things on my own my entire life, and I won’t let this setback steal my independence. Only, it’s not so easy to turn Jude away when he’s determined to help me. I want him, but I don’t trust him enough to let him in. Then again, if I can keep his savior complex at bay, he might just be the perfect distraction while I’m sidelined. It’s not like he’s going to stick around for long, and I can always cut him out of my life when I need to. That is, if I don’t fall in love with him first.

Wilder Play

The addicting, edge-of-your seat Wilder trilogy concludes with this final installment filled with sports, romance, and characters you’ll obsess about. Enjoy this fast-paced binge-read and its twisty, unpredictable plot! I’m back on the tennis court, but the rest of my life is a hot mess. My mom stopped paying my bills, and I just discovered the reason for it: she’s dead. I’m about to get kicked out of my apartment – the same one that’s been broken into twice – if I don’t pay rent soon. My sister is still lurking about, up to no good. And someone is leaving messages telling me to break up with Jude. He’s back from football camp and didn’t forget about me while he was gone. Jude’s seen the reality of my life, and he isn’t running away. Instead, he’s demanding I open up to him more, even though I’ve already made myself more vulnerable with him than with anyone else in my life. I keep telling myself it’s for his own good to keep secrets from him, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s more about protecting my heart than it is about proving my independence. We’ve fallen hard and fast, and it’s up to me what happens next. The man who’s come to deliver the news about my mom is about to tell me who my father is, and I have a feeling my world is going to get turned upside down. Should I take Jude’s hand and bring him along for the ride? And if I do, will having Jude beside me make me weaker, or stronger?

“That would have been your first kiss?” She shrugged. “Yeah.” “You’re seventeen?” Her eyes finally met mine, and I could see the relief there. She was glad I hadn’t pushed about the “other stuff” she’d referred to, which only made me more curious about it. “So? I’m too busy with school and tennis, and now college applications and work, to hang out with people.” “You really think you led him on? That’s fucked up, Karis. He was the one who kept touching you all territorial-like all night, and you never responded.” “Should I have pushed him away? Told him to stop? I mean, he wasn’t groping me or anything.” “Pretty sure you did give him a few shoves at the ping pong table.” I raised my eyebrows and she laughed softly. “Only because I wanted to win and he kept screwing up.” “Karis, guys should be able to read women’s signs. Anyone looking at you two would have seen that you weren’t into him like that. But Ferris has it bad, and he’s ignoring it or in denial. Telling himself it’s because you’re inexperienced or something.” “So I should have told him to back off or pushed him away earlier if you hadn’t shown up? Even though it would have made it awkward when I saw him at BTC, which is practically every day in the summer?” “You would let a guy kiss you, your first kiss, so you didn’t hurt his feelings?” Karis laughed again and the rage beating inside me dimmed slightly. “Okay,” she conceded. “You’re right.” “You didn’t have any trouble pushing me away the other night,” I reminded her. And she’d been turned on, I hadn’t misread that. She’d liked how my body felt crowding hers. “Yeah well, you were pissing me off. I didn’t have to worry about hurting your feelings.” “If I tried to kiss you now, what would you do?” She rolled her eyes like she didn’t think I was serious. “I need to get to bed, Jude. I’ve got to be up at 5:30 in the morning.” “Seriously?” “Yes,” she said on a long sigh, moving to the bed. See? She had no problem walking away from me. I found myself following her as I remembered that look in her eyes as she ran her finger along her lip in the hallway. The way her chest rose and her eyes dilated. The deepening blush. Her husky voice. It hadn’t been for Ferris. She felt this between us. I wanted to be Karis Jackson’s first kiss.

It was rude to stare. I knew this. I knew this, and I didn’t care. Want to know why? The hottest man I’d ever seen in my entire life just walked into The Splinter. It felt cliche to say that it was like that slow-mo entrance you see in the movies, but it really was like that. A group of guys came in before him and he trailed them. It was like God smiled down on me when he did, too. It was raining, so his hair was wet. Once inside, he reached up to run his hands through his hair, shaking the water out of it. And his hair was gorgeous. This thick, lush brown color that was begging me to go over and help him shake the rest of that water out. I didn’t because that would be weird. Much weirder than me being a creep from across the bar as I watched him join his friends at the table they’d claimed near the pool tables. Those same pool tables I was sitting at with my friend and her friends. Though I wasn’t sure how good of a friend she was with them because there was something off about some of them. They were nice, but catty. I’d never had many female friends growing up because I was a little awkward and lived in my head. So I also wasn’t the best at reading people. Maybe my read was wrong. But I didn’t think so. They smiled when Cass introduced me, and they tried to include me in conversation initially. But then I was quickly forgotten by everyone except for Cass. I was okay with that. I liked people watching. Hence me noticing Mr. Good Looks when he walked in. And I wasn’t the only one to notice him, either. The Cat Pack had as well. “Did you see who just walked in?” one girl, a redhead, breathed. “I did. I’ve never known him to come out before,” a brunette responded. Cass sent me a look, nibbling her bottom lip, before looking back at her friends. What was that about? I sucked on my straw, it making the awfully slurping sound to tell me my drink was empty. That was my cue. While the women were caught up in discussing Mr. Good Looking and his hot friends, I slipped away. Instead of going right for the bar, I veered toward the jukebox. I wasn’t too interested in picking a song to play, but I wanted some time away from Cass’s friends. I flicked through the selections before digging a dollar from my pocket and feeding it to the machine and picking my songs. Knowing I’d have to wait awhile, I turned toward the bar. As I wound through the thickening crowd, I couldn’t help looking toward Mr. Good Looking to get another fix. I caught sight of him and did a quick scan before forcing myself to look in front of me and not at him. He would star in my fantasies later tonight

I wasn’t sure how much I would get into this book because I’m not a tennis player or even know the basics – I’m talking in high school, I just swat the ball around, and if it went over the net, that was awesome. BUT that being said, tennis is very important to this storyline but you do not need to be into tennis to enjoy this book. I started reading it late last night and then finished it while I couldn’t sleep this morning – not sure if I can blame the book or insomnia. Either way, I finished it within the 2 hours I was awake and was immediately taken with the story of Amalie and Julian.

I loved how different Amalie and Julian were. Amalie was so not what Julian thought she was: an entitled, rich, princess who is using him as her “project”. And Julian well is what she thought, but Amalie saw past the smug, cocky, drunk tennis player. But reading this story and their love/hate relationship definitely helped pass the hours awake by.

I haven’t read this author but I am definitely planning to read more of this series!!

5 stars!

Review Tour ~ Revved to the Maxx ~ by ~ Melanie Moreland

Title: Revved to the Maxx

Author: Melanie Moreland
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 3, 2020

Maxx Reynolds needs help.

His shop, house, and life are all in a state of disarray.

In desperation, he turns to the internet to hire a new employee, thinking it will make his life easier.

What he expects is a fellow named Charly.

What he gets is a quirky, sassy, red-head name Charlynn who runs circles around him.

And she’s all woman.

He can’t stand her.

He can’t keep his hands off her either.

It did not disappoint“Charly is the unabashed ray of sunshine Maxx didn’t realize he needed in his life. I enjoyed this book so much I read it one sitting and kicked myself for not savoring it longer!” – Donna Soluri, OnFrolic

Five Isn’t Enough Stars“If Melanie Moreland wrote books like this for the rest of her life, I would be a happy woman. If you want a book that will brighten your world, make you laugh, make you sigh and make you swoon, this is for you.” – Carol [Goodreads Addict]’s Reviews

Maxx is grumbly, sexy perfection“It’s a wonderful small town romance with the best banter and the hottest scenes I have ever read from Melanie Moreland. There are themes of friendship, community, and letting go of a past that haunts my sentimental soul. This is a 5+star must read!” – Stephanie Rose, author of No Reservations

Sheer Perfection“I cannot stop smiling. Melanie Moreland packed sheer perfection (and a grumpy hero *swoons* ) into one fabulous book.” – B. Cranford, author of The Fear of Falling

Hit it out of the park“Revved is a sweet yet super sexy story about two lost souls who finally find their perfect fit. I would so be up for a second book.” – Becca the Bibliophile

“Can I—” She cleared her throat. “Can I buy you a drink?”

“Not needed.”

“Please.”

I couldn’t say no to her pleading eyes and frankly, I really didn’t want to. She had yet to remove her hand from my arm, and I had to admit I liked how it felt when she touched me. I sat beside her and Vanessa came over, sliding a beer my way.

“On the house. Thanks for taking out the garbage.”

I picked up my glass. “He took himself out.”

Vanessa placed a glass of wine in front of the girl. “On the house for you too. I like your style.”

The girl picked up her wine with a shaking hand. “That’s the second time in as many days I’ve had to rely on my self-defense class. I’ve never used it until now…” She trailed off.

I lifted my glass in a toast. “Always a first time.”

She nodded, seemingly in thought.

I sensed a story there. I assumed she’d been hassled already this week, but I stayed quiet.

She turned to me, holding out her hand. “Thank you, Reynolds, for coming over. I appreciate it.”

I looked at her hand, then had to tease her. “Is that safe?”

She laughed, the sound light. “Yes.”

I shook her hand. “You’re welcome.” Then I furrowed my brow. “I think Vanessa said your name was Lynn?”

She shrugged and muttered something about it being close enough. Then she grinned, making two deep dimples in her face appear. They were right by the corners of her full lips, making her expression mischievous. “You asked her my name?”

“You remembered mine,” I responded drolly.

She smiled. “Vanessa missed part of my name. It’s Charlynn.”

“Pretty.”

She shrugged. “A mouthful.”

“Maybe I’ll stick to Red. It’s easier.”

Upon finishing Maxx & Charly’s story, I texted my Book Bestie the Amazon link who immediately bought the book, without me even saying anything. Maxx definitely reminded me of Richard from The Contract series.

Charly makes you want to reach through the pages (or kindle whatever) and give her a hug. She is definitely on the down slope of life. She’s going through all kinds of things and you just want her to be able to find something to turn her life and luck around. Enter Maxx. Don’t get me wrong, Maxx has his own down slope he’s going through himself. So when he gets an acceptable applicant for his assistant position, he’s super happy. Until he meets Charly, who is a woman and not the man he was expecting.

Charly has had enough with her bad luck, so she gives the new job her all and proving to Maxx she was a perfect hire. I love Charly’s sass and her personality and just everything about her. She’s perfect to me. I HOPE we will see more of this world, hint 😉

I followed him, my hands shaking as I grew angrier by the second. “That’s it? You’re going to let me move out?”

Mitchell reached for his keys, then turned to me. “I can’t force you to stay here, Corina. If you’re unhappy, then yes, you should leave. Do I want you to? No, I don’t. I know I fucked up, but if you’re going to throw it in my face every goddamn chance you get, then you’re right, this won’t work.”

He headed to the stairs that led down to his front door. My heart raced, and I knew I couldn’t leave it like this. Closing my eyes, I called out to him. “Mitch! You never asked me to the Pecan Street Honky Tonk.”

Stopping, he looked back up at me. “What?”

I swallowed hard and took in a quick breath. “The dance, you never asked me. And well, Lane asked me.”

Sadness swept over his face. “What did you tell him?”

Wringing my hands together, I answered, “I haven’t responded…yet. I was waiting for you.”

Mitchell rushed back up the steps and stopped in front of me. I don’t think I’d ever felt my stomach dip like it did when he raced toward me. He cupped my face and leaned in. My chest rose and fell with each breath as I waited for him to speak. His touch sent a flurry of butterflies through my chest.

“Corina, will you go with me to the street dance next weekend?”

My teeth sank into my lip, and I watched as his eyes filled with lust.

“Yes.” I smiled and added, “But only as friends.”

The corner of his mouth rose into a sexy smirk. God, how I loved that smile of his. “It’s a date, then.”

“As friends,” I added.

He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. Before I could even process his lips, they were gone and he was stepping back. “I’ll take it. For now.”

Your ex arrived to show off the person he’d left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty–and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I’m crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that’s the only reaction I can get out of you, I’ll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I’m falling for you, and I know it’s wrong. I know that I’m only supposed to be your adviser and nothing more, but here’s the thing. I think you’re falling for me too.

xo, Zach

This story was perfect! I loved Zach and his romantic nature mixed with cocky. Definitely a treat! And his crazy mom! I love when there are inappropriate parents and grandparents!

And Poppy! She was such a real character! Wanting Zach but being worried that he’s her advisor.

A great story, that I will definitely re-read. I read this almost completely in 1 sitting. I just had to read more Zach!

Respect – An Infidelity Stand-alone Novel

“The making of a man”

From New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a stand-alone novel, a spin-off from her beloved Infidelity series. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic mafia love story/ thriller will delve into a world where family takes on new meaning, and even the inhabitants are suspicious of the next chapter.

“Standing at what I believe is the precipice of my life, I, Oren Demetri, was too young to understand that it wasn’t and too old to imagine that it couldn’t be.

The already hefty accumulation of my successes and failures, bravery and fears, and rewards and suffering, had brought me to this point. It was hard to contemplate the things I’d done, and yet in reality, I’d only begun to learn the possibilities.

I suppose that’s how it was for me at twenty-nine years of age on the brink of all I’d ever wanted without fully realizing the price I would pay. Yet in that moment, I knew there would be no cost too great or sacrifice I wouldn’t make. I had no idea how far-reaching that moment of self-discovery would be because as the congregation’s murmurs quieted, bleeding into silence and allowing the thump of my heart to be the only sound I heard, I was a man filled with love and adoration, emotions in stark contrast to those I needed in the world I’d built or the one I was about to enter.

Angelina Costello was my dream and now my reality. I’d worked diligently to move beyond the actuality of being a dockworker’s son to becoming a self-made, successful entrepreneur, all in an effort to earn the right to call her my own. I’d overcome servitude to others, collecting their paychecks and lowly praises, to become the one who signed the paychecks and offered the accolades when they were rightfully earned.

The world was my oyster and walking toward me on the arm of her uncle was my pearl. I’d found her amongst the empty shells life had offered. There was no need to pry open another possibility. Angelina was all I wanted. Yet my path was uncharted. There was more for me to earn, lose, and willingly give.

The top of that list was respect.”

This stand-alone novel may be read before or after reading the Infidelity series or on its own.

Angelina Costello was the only woman to ever take my breath away. I couldn’t not speak to her. “I haven’t seen you since NYU.”

“I’ve been living overseas, studying history and architecture in Italy.”

“Italy! Molto bene. And now you’re back?” I asked.

“I am.”

“To stay?”

“I believe so.”

“Perhaps we could see one another,” I proposed, all the while hoping that she would say yes and saying a prayer that she would say no.

Her lips curved upward. “I see you now.”

“Si, and I would like to see more.”

With a glint to her gaze, she said, “I never forgot you. I thought at one time…” Her head tilted innocently as her lip momentarily hid behind her teeth. “Are you sure you aren’t still scared of me?”

“Angelina, I’m quite certain that I’m terrified of you.”

Her smile grew. “Bene. Then let me give you my number.”

TBRreview

I haven’t read any of the Infidelity series before – before you torch me, it’s on my TBR!! Even more so after reading this story!!

This story was raw and gritty and dark but so so good! So thrilling and consuming! This isn’t a sickening sweet insta-love but that’s not what Aleatha writes, nor should you expect it. This is a story about a strong, powerful dark man – Oren – and the woman who he is obsessed with and spellbound by – Angelina.

I love me a good mafia romance – sometimes you need a thrilling, dark, gritty story and this certainly fit the bill!

I sit back in my desk chair and look out at the city. It’s the same window my father looked out of for longer than I can remember. I’ve been thinking about him and my mom a lot lately. They’re off on another vacation enjoying one another and life. They call and check in, but I know they’re happy traveling the world.
I’ve got a stack of papers on my desk that I need to go over, but I don’t feel like it today. For some reason, I’ve felt an ache in my chest for the past couple of days, one I haven’t felt in a long time, mostly because I’ve learned to ignore it. But the beating in my heart can’t be ignored, and my thoughts drift to Kory, just like they always do.
I rub the place between my ribs and wonder if this is exactly what my father felt like, looking out onto a city where he knew the love of his life was, but she was just beyond his reach.
For years I tried to fight it, but it never once went away. Not even for a second.
I think back to the day I asked her to the prom and how it all seemed so perfect. I picked her up at her apartment and met her mom. We laughed and held hands while we went to my aunt and uncle’s house for pictures. She looked so beautiful in her white dress. I kept thinking she looked more like a bride, and I loved it. At eighteen years old, I pictured her walking down an aisle to me, and I wanted so badly for it to be real.
But then everything went to shit, and in an instant, it was gone.
I’m my father’s son, even though I’ve spent my life trying not to be. I knew the way he was with my mom. He was out of his mind for her, and nothing else mattered. I never wanted to be that way. I didn’t want someone to have that much power over me because it was dangerous. That’s what I knew to be true. But all it took was one look at Kory and all of that changed.
It’s been years and I haven’t gotten over her. The day she disappeared was the day I lost my soul. She took it with her, and I’ve never so much as glanced at another woman since. Why would I? I might have been young, and it might have not meant anything to her, but I’ve never felt anything like it since. I knew when I was eighteen that I’d met the love of my life, but she slipped through my fingers.

I’ve been trying to figure out what to call this one. A second chance Insta-love? An Insta-love second chance?? If you figure it out, tell me.

Henry fell for Kory as soon as he saw her. She kept to herself, was a scholarship recipient to his ritzy private school but she held his attention like no other girl or woman had. He finally asked her to prom and surprisingly, she accepted.

Fast forward 10 years where Kory is moving back home and Henry finds her. And that’s it. He’s not losing her a second time when she’s the only woman he’s ever and will ever love.

Another great insta-love from these awesome ladies!!
