TEASERS

I love a good sports romance – Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Chicago Stars series remains one of my favorites to this day. Anywho, in this first story of the Men of Blaze series, we meet Colson, who has just been traded to the Miami Blaze, the NBA team.

Within minutes of landing, he stops a mugging in progress of the beautiful Sydney. Sparks immediately fly between the two. Fast forward to Colson and Sydney finding out the other is employed by the same company, the Blaze and Sydney’s dad is Colson’s new coach.

You could feel the chemistry between the two of them leaping off the page (well kindle). The flirting, the teasing, the pain and joy. Sydney and Colson both are not what the other expected but they’re definitely drawn to each other.

I can’t wait to read more of this series!! I’m hooked already!

Book Tour ~ Her Name is Mercie ~ by ~ Chris Roy

Book Title: Her Name is Mercie

Author: Chris Roy

Mercie Hillbrook lives a simple, quiet life working as a gas station attendant. Then her parents are killed. Her home is taken. The people responsible are excused for just doing their job. When an attempt to get justice her way lands her in trouble with the law, Mercie realizes she still has something to lose: her own life.

Then she finds reason to believe her parents were murdered… and she doesn’t care anymore.

Alongside this rollercoaster of a novella, this book includes 4 very dark short stories

This is an adult book with dark themes and components of horror, suitable for mature teenagers age 17+

Trigger warnings: graphic violence, police killing

Praise for Her Name is Mercie

Roy delivers on the edge of your seat storytelling with rough edges, crooked cops and a tiny light at the end of the tunnel that is never quite extinguished.

— Tom Vaterco–founder of Crime Wave Press.

Her Name Is Mercie is a fast furious ride into an inferno of the highest tension you are likely to encounter this year. Where noir meets thriller, toss a coin. Dive in. And unplug your phones, pcs tablets and keep reading deeper and deeper, until the final pages.

— Richard Godwin, author of Apostle Rising.

I’m not normally a dark, horror reader but this collection of stories intrigued me.

Mercie’s story is heartbreaking. Her parents are killed, she loses their house and then becomes a bank robber so that she can support herself. Mercie is filled with rage and I don’t think anyone could blame her. While her methods aren’t legal, you can understand what is driving her. She has nowhere to go and no one to help her- well almost. She has Kermit, who is a fantastic person to have at your back.

This is very relevant right now as so many people are losing family members, their homes and are just trying to make ends meet. So while the circumstances are different, the situations are the same. While Mercie isn’t a traditional hero, you’re rooting for her nonetheless.

Additionally, there are 4 short stories that are each a bit darker than you expect but are still great reads on their own.

4 stars!

Chris Roy is the author of Shocking Circumstances, Sharp as a Razor, and Her Name Is Mercie. He is a published tattoo artist (Rise Tattoo Magazine, ATC Tattoo Books app) and the illustrator of two children’s books. Raised in South Mississippi, he lived comfortably with the criminal ventures of his youth until a fistfight in 1999 ended tragically. Since January, 2000, he’s been serving a life sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Nowadays he lives his life of crime vicariously, through the edgy, fast-paced stories he pens, hoping to entertain readers. When he isn’t writing, he’s reading, tattooing or looking for prospects to train in boxing.

I’m normally someone who likes to read books in order; this series flies in the face of that rule. Reading books 1 & 2 first before this book actually set up this book so well. You know the ending but you don’t know the journey they all take.

I will be honest, I wasn’t sure I would like the Midwest Boys series when I signed up for it. But I was willing to give it a shot. And I’m so glad I did. These stories have converted me to loving the Midwest Boys! And all of their stories!

We’ve met Jason and Kelly in books 1 & 2 but now we get to read their story. And peeks of Erika and Matt’s story. Which after meeting Jason and Kelly, I’m glad we got to read their story and how they got there.

I’m sure hoping that Matt and Erika’s story is next!

#RRD-14 I’m startled awake some time later when I hear a bump against the wall across from me. Laying in the dark, I wait and it happens over and over again. Curious, I get up and tiptoe out my door and over to the spare room. “No,” I can hear being said over and over, the voice deep and afraid. I peek my head in and, sure enough, he’s tangled in his bed sheet, his leg hitting the wall while it looks like he’s fighting someone. Carefully, I slowly walk over to the bed and lay my hand on his arm. “You’re safe,” I repeat over and over, until his frown eases and the wrinkle on his forehead is gone. I’m about to back away when his eyes fly open, pinning me with a stare. “Sorry,” I blurt out. “I’m Kelly. I heard you and just wanted to check to see if you’re okay.” His throat bobs a couple times before he nods his head, his eyes flicking to the clock that reads quarter after two. His hands come up and rub down his face. For the first time I notice he’s shirtless and wearing basketball shorts. His face is longer and his jaw is square, sharp, with a classical aristocratic look. His hair is light and short, cropped close on the sides and longer on top. It’s fashionable and not at all my type. “I’m Calvin,” he says, testing out his new name. “Nice to meet you,” I respond and smile. “I’ll talk to you more in the morning, okay?” He nods again in response. Our eyes hold and I faintly see the remaining ghosts that are haunting him. The orbs clear when he blinks again. “Night.”

New Release & Review ~ Game Winning Goal ~ by ~ Kay Gordon

As a die-hard hockey fan, Cheyenne doesn’t expect to fall for the injured pro from her favorite team; Kamden is determined to get back on the ice before his career is over. Can Cheyenne and Kamden’s love prove that there is more than just scoring goals? Readers will fall in love with this sports romance from Kay Gordon. The 425 Madison series is complete with season three; GAME WINNING GOAL is live on 11/9!

Cheyenne

Life was good. I had a great job, amazing people surrounding me, season tickets to see my favorite hockey team play, and a cat that I could cuddle. Although it didn’t seem glamorous, I was happy. But when the shy, handsome, and somewhat awkward hockey player slid into my life, I realized that I could be happier. I wanted to be more than just content with life.

Kamden

I knew I wanted to be a hockey player from the moment I put on my first pair of skates. I played

hard for the Titans, proving that I belonged on the top line. But just when I finally made it, an injury took me out of the game. While feeling sorry for myself and waiting to heal, I met the bubbly, beautiful, and smart pediatrician who brought me to my knees. She made me see that there was more to life than scoring goals. A love of the game helps bring these two together and onto a path towards a different kind of love.

Cheyenne and Kamden’s road isn’t as smooth as ice, though. What happens when Kam’s recovery isn’t easy and his position on the team is threatened? Cheyenne has to figure out how to break down his defense and Kam has to realize that he might not always be the one to score the game-winning goal.

After all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love.

An older man was telling us all about how he’d once considered buying a hockey team, and I was doing my best to feign interest. I let my gaze wonder, so I could people watch, though, and I did a double-take when I caught sight of a woman speaking with a small group of people.

She was wearing a dark purple dress that fell to the floor and long sleeves that went to her wrists. The fabric dipped low on her chest, teasing at the cleavage underneath. The dress was tight at the waist, though, and showed off every curve she had. Her blonde hair had big curls in it, and the tips looked like they reached her shoulders. She appeared to be about three or four inches shorter than me, but I was willing to be everything I had that she had on some killer heels under that dress.

It wasn’t just the way she looked that caught me, though. It was the way she held herself. She was smiling as she spoke, and it was obvious that she had every man around her eating out of her hand. They laughed at whatever she was saying, and she appeared to be enjoying herself.

She was captivating.

“What do you think, Mr. Matlock? Do we have a chance at a repeat of the cup?”

I reluctantly peeled my eyes away from the woman to focus on the man in front of me. With a fake smile on my face, I shrugged.

“I think there’s always a chance. We have plenty of time to turn it around.”

When I glanced back at the woman, I saw that she had removed herself from the group she was with and was heading toward the silent auction table.

“Excuse me for a moment, will you?” I didn’t wait for anyone to reply before walking away.

The woman was looking at one of the lots that included a hot air balloon ride when I walked up. I cleared my throat and fought against shoving my hands into my pockets– a nervous habit of mine.

“A hot air balloon ride, huh?” I wanted to cringe at the lame words leaving my mouth, but I couldn’t stop them. “I’d probably faint before I left the ground.”

The woman looked up at me with a polite but disinterested smile on her face that told me she thought my line was cheesy, too. “Afraid of heights?

When her emerald green eyes met mine, recognition and realization dawned on me.

It was the woman from the game.

“Cheyenne.”

I love me a sports romance – especially when the girl is SO into the sport and completely surprises the guy who is delightfully surprised when she can spit more stats at him than a newscaster. That is definitely Cheyenne and Kam.

Cheyenne has been a hockey fan for as long as she can remember. And it’s a nostalgic thing because she went with her parents and her parents are now deceased. So the games are a huge thing for her. Which I understand. And Kam is a secret geek. So he and Cheyenne are totally great together. They just seamlessly fall into a relationship together. And I was there for it 100%.

Plus, anyone who has read other 425 Madison Ave books, you’ll recognize some of the secondary characters in this book. So you get to see some of the favorite 425 Madison Ave residents.

BLURB

Connor isn’t in the market for messy.

His life is going completely according to plan. He’s set to become CEO of his family’s company, his Ironman time is better than ever, and his regular poker nights with the guys are his one night a month he can stop worrying about counting macros and indulge himself. What he doesn’t need is a relationship with Emerson Dyer—daughter of his father’s lifelong enemy and most-hated rival.

Emerson’s life is nothing but messy.

Since her father died, leaving her CEO of their gin distillery, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Emerson is barely holding it together—what she doesn’t need is a complication like Connor Finch. Sure, his abs do look like they’ve been photoshopped, but she has no time to spend counting them. It’s her company’s numbers she should be worrying about. Still, there’s something about the way he makes her feel.

Together, they’re perfect.

Connor knows he and Emerson don’t make sense on paper. Too many differences between them—and one big secret that could destroy Emerson’s family business tells him to cut and run. But for once in his life, Connor doesn’t care about messy or imperfect—because the fact is, Emerson is the one perfect thing he needs in his life. Now if he can only convince her . . .

EXCERPT

When their lips met, he could taste the gin on her lips. Her tongue met his as boldly as the gin had done, bursting with life and flavor.

Her hand went around his neck, tugging him toward her, and he had half a mind to take her on the bar. Only the recollection that they were in her workplace stopped him from acting upon it.

When they finally broke for air, Emerson grinned. “When I said let it roll over the tongue, I meant yours not mine.”

“It tasted better on yours,” he said. “I needed a second opinion on the citrus.”

I have missed Scarlett Cole’s writing so much!! Just a couple months ago I was thinking, “she hasn’t had any releases recently, I hope she’s still writing” and then a couple weeks ago, I get the notification for this new Scarlett Cole series. I’m psychic!

I love a Scarlett Cole book/series; she writes with such investment into the characters. And within seconds of reading the story, you’re invested in these characters and their outcome. And I was definitely interested in the Dyer family, Emerson and Connor.

Emerson is my favorite type of female lead, strong, resilient but also a little submissive. And Connor just wanted to take care of her. So that made me like him even more. Although the one thing I didn’t like about Connor was that he took so long to stand up to his dad.

I can’t decide if I want Liv or Jake to have the next story, but I definitely want to read both!!

5 stars!

MEET THE AUTHOR

Scarlett Cole is a contemporary romance author that calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.

Until the day they do.
And everything changes.

“Music to soothe the soul…A connection that was felt by both, A smile that set MY heart tingling. <3” Chele, Goodreads
“I definitely would like to see made into full length stories because they were so engaging from Sydney Logan, Melanie Moreland, and Jo Richardson. ”  Shannon, Goodreads

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Logan! Lottie falling for him so quickly was 1000% legit because I did and I guarantee I wasn’t the only one to wish that Logan was real. Because swoon!! I don’t think there was anything about Logan that I wasn’t a fan of.

Lottie and her family was so heartbreaking and maddening! I loved that Lottie finally stood up for herself and Logan even pushed her to. And he stood behind her in everything she did. Oh Logan. He was just so swoony. I was remembering things he did and took a little mental vacation.

Melanie Moreland is definitely on my must read author list. As soon as she has a new release, SIGN ME UP!!! I read it and tell my book bestie about it so she can read and love it too! Plus I need to have someone else to swoon over Logan about.

My name may be Romeo, but I’m far from romantic. My brother betrayed the family, forcing me into the role of underboss beneath the criminal mastermind that is our father.

I’ve never been a merciless criminal, and my father tests my resolve by giving me a stolen woman, knowing the situation disturbs me. What he doesn’t know is the disheveled beauty intrigues me.

She tried to kill me with my own gun on the first night, pushing my fixation into a dangerous addiction.

She’s unknowingly teaching me the power I have, and now I’m going to take over my father’s empire.

It’s a cold dark path to the top and I’m finally ready to lead the way.

Romeo and Luna’s story was so heartbreaking. I was not expecting what I read so man was that a heart-wrenching story. But that’s all I’m saying.

I thought Kieran was my DeAngelo of choice but I think Romeo might have knocked him down a peg. While Romeo might not be a traditional romance hero, he still will make your heart bleed for him. Yes, this story might trigger some but it is not done in a gratuitous way. It’s meant to bring a full history into why Romeo and Luna are the way they are and how important their overcoming their pasts.

While Romeo and Kieran are brothers and similar, they are so vastly different. So don’t expect Romeo’s story to be the same as Kieran’s. It won’t be. But definitely read BOTH stories!!

Gavin and Penny are just so great. Gavin is a quiet, keep to himself, single dad of Penny when he meets country superstar Sutton. I truly love when there is a sweet, sweet little kid like Penny who basically just makes you want to reach through your kindle and hug them. I’m not a kid person so when there is a kid character that makes ME want to like the kid, you know it’s a great character development.

Plus, this whole series of Everton is just such a great read. I love series where you meet the townsfolk and each book makes you fall in love with each character and then each character gets their own story in a book in the series.

I don’t know what I will do when book 7 is out. Besides cry. Or stalk Fabiola for the next book/series 😉

She writes women’s fiction and contemporary romance, dipping her pen into new adult and young adult. Her moods guide her writing, taking her anywhere from sassy and sexy romances to dark and emotion-filled love stories.

She is continuously creating stories as she daydreams. Her other loves are country music, exploring the outdoors, and reading.

Bennett

“You cocksucking mother fucker. Who the fuck do you think you are?” For such a little girl, she certainly talks salty. I may have smashed out her back windshield with the head of my cane.

“I gave you a choice. I don’t give a shit about you. I do, however, have a fifty percent right to those puppies. I looked it up, and Doberman Husky hybrids are also known as Dobsky’s and go for up to a grand apiece. From what I saw in that ultrasound, you are putting over six thousand dollars in danger. That’s a felony if she miscarries due to your negligence.”

“You have no right to anything! You-you oh- go fuck your couch.”

“So, I assume the next thing you will be telling me is you’re Rick James.” Her fuck your couch reference was from a comedy sketch by one Dave Chapelle. “You said I was half responsible for them. You have chosen to let her keep them; you are now obligated to do what is in her best interest. That-” I point at the wind tunnel of a car. “Is not, nor would it ever be in her best interest.” I am damn near screaming at her. I very rarely give a shit about anything enough to raise my voice, but when I saw the dog in the cold, I lost my shit.

“You made it a God damned wind tunnel. We were warm for crying out loud. She’s fucking fed, watered and walked multiple times a day. She’s anything but fucking neglected. My car now needs a new window. Thanks for that. So much for getting a new place. Why don’t you just go rot in hell!”

“You are a stubborn and selfish child. You are going to grab your shit, and we are going back to my place. Once there, we will draw up a contract, and you will perform duties in my home. In exchange, I will provide food, hot water, and lodgings for you and Mia. I will also cover all of her veterinary and dietary needs. Weekends will be your own, and I will pay you eleven hundred dollars each week, once the puppies are born and homed you may go as you please with all of your earnings. Is that understood? Or would you rather see her wind up in a shelter because someone else spots this situation, calls the Dog Warden, and you get arrested for abuse?” I start to walk toward her car and the whining dog. I pull the door open and unlock the passenger side before getting into it myself. I don’t drive, and I don’t intend to.

She takes the cover she’s been using and folds it into the back before moving the stuff in the back seat behind it. Making sure the glass is all covered. Patting the back seat for the dog, she gets her covered with blankets, before finally getting in the driver’s seat. She doesn’t even say another word as she starts the car.

“There. Was that so hard?”

“I’d rather you not talk to me at this moment if you don’t mind.”

Any book with dogs or cats, I’m in for. Well mostly. Anyway, once I saw dogs, I was in. I will be honest from the get go, as a board member of various Spay Neuter non-profits, the fact that these dogs weren’t fixed bugged me. But that’s my own thing. But still, spay and neuter your pets! Ok, end of PSA.

Bennett is definitely reclusive millionaire. I sort of thought of him like Beast in Beauty and the Beast. Hidden away, not wanting guests or friends, almost hermit-like. Except Clover wasn’t a Belle. She was sassy and feisty and I loved her dog Mia and her name.

Bennett and Clover are as opposite as they could ever be but they’re sorta stuck with each other while Mia was pregnant with the puppies. But over time, they start to tolerate and even like each other.

This was a good, light-hearted read that kept me entertained.

Reyna

I don’t do relationships. A federal agent whose life revolves around rescuing kidnapped children, I’ve got no interest in catching any man who’s not a criminal. So when my new assignment in Chicago requires me to get closer to a VIP Chicago Blaze fan, Blaze goalie Jonah West is the perfect cover. Like me, he’s too focused on his career to make time for love, dates or even hookups.

Jonah

I had my great love, and I lost her. No woman will ever compare to the blond ray of sunshine who left me half a man three years ago. And even though I help out my police officer brother by pretending to be head over heels for Reyna, it’s just a farce to put an evil man behind bars. Reyna is a fierce, raven-haired cop with steely eyes and a foul mouth—not my type in the slightest. But when lines get blurred, my fake feelings for Reyna become more real than anything I thought my beat-up heart could ever feel again.

Oh Jonah. I love Brenda Rothert’s Chicago Blaze series and each of the players!! They’re all a family or at least try to be one. I find that team camaraderie just so amazing and admirable. I wasn’t really a team sports girl so I missed that teamwork feel.

Anyway, Jonah is available to help Reyna with an undercover assignment that she needs an “in” with. And Jonah, a coworker’s brother, is the perfect cover. And Jonah isn’t looking for a relationship so helping Reyna by being a “boyfriend” is great. Until feelings because feelings.

Reyna isn’t looking for a relationship either and their partnership takes on a new turn for her and her sassy self fights it. Which who could blame her?

Another series I will be going back and re-reading because each of these guys is different in beautiful ways.

5 stars!
