Synopsis: An inherited parking spot. That’s all it took to make Natalie Moran’s food truck dreams come true. But her dream space is attached to a bakery inherited by someone else—drop dead gorgeous Eric Schneider, a financial consultant who wouldn’t know a cupcake from a cannoli. And he wants to buy Nat out, no matter what she has to say about it.

Eric’s determined to build his own business, but he needs the super cute klutz with the cupcake truck to help. If Nat will teach him the basics of running a bakery, he’ll give her free kitchen time. Except…neither expects the heat burning between them or the possibility that their arrangement might become permanent.

When it all blows up, Nat is convinced his actions mean betrayal. It’s up to Eric to regain her trust and show her he’s a man who is truly, madly in love with her, before she disappears from his life forever.

TBRreview

Gina is a crackup! She’s like Lucy & Ethel in 1 person. She gets into the craziest situations.

She’s “spying” on her own food truck because she knows her ex-boyfriend is breaking in and using it as a hookup spot at night. Rather than involve the police (because she doesn’t trust them), Gina is going to catch Tony on her own.

Rick is one of the lucky cops who gets dispatched to stop Gina’s peeping. Or at least when she’s using neighbors’ fire escapes.

This book was funny, sweet, sad at times but a great read overall. I loved Gina’s capers!

Review ~ Dirty Work ~ by ~ Chelle Bliss & Brenda Rothert

Normally I am not a political person. BUT in this instance, I’m ALL over it!

Reagan Preston is from a prominent political family and is running for a Senate seat against uber hot, war-hero, Jude Titan. And boy does Reagan think he’s hot. And cocky. And annoying. But so very hot.

Jude is taken with Reagan but equally annoyed by her. He plans to have veterans rights as the cornerstone of his platform.

Reagan and Jude are thrown together repeatedly and their attraction and chemistry is undeniable. Despite people from each campaign trying to dirty up the race.

I love that even with the potential for mudslinging, they both stood strong and didn’t want to hurt the other.

A fantastic story with a great message! I hope Lexi or some of the others get stories too!

Keane Morgan wouldn’t return any of my calls or texts, and I was pissed as hell about it. I didn’t want to drive from Seattle to L.A. with the guy any more than he wanted to drive with me, but I had no frickin’ choice in the matter–at least, not if I wanted to use his brother Dax’s coveted parking spot at UCLA.

Okay, so it turned out Keane was objectively gorgeous, and, fine, pretty funny, too. But did he have to be so damned in love with himself? I mean, jeez, the cocky way he flashed those dimples was just so orchestrated. And, honestly, what kind of guy uses the phrase “baby doll” with a straight face? Oh, that’s right: the kind of guy who’s a male stripper.

Yup, the cocky jerk turned out to be Seattle’s answer to Magic Mike, a stripper known as “Ball Peen Hammer”–which meant Keane Morgan was emphatically not the kind of guy I’d ever fall for.

Not. At. All.

No freakin’ way.

Well, until Keane convinced me to fall for him, that is.

Which I did.

Hard.

Excerpt

As they exchange information, I make my way to the end of my aisle and loop into theirs, not taking my eyes off Baby Face the whole time. Shit. This dude’s hunting Maddy so hard, it’s making my blood boil. Jesus, he’s going full-throttle rifle on Maddy’s ass right now, completely foregoing his crossbow altogether.

When I reach the two of them in the middle of their aisle, I shuffle past the dude and stand next to Maddy, shoulder to shoulder, and then, on a sudden impulse, put my arm around her shoulders and squeeze her tight, making her wobble in place at the unexpected jolt to her balance. “Hey, sis,” I say, squeezing her like a rag doll. “You totally fell down on your candy-acquiring duties.”

“I know. I’m sorry.” She subtly wiggles out of my grasp. “Brian and I got into this hilarious argument about the best candy bar of all- time, and—”

“And I’m totally right,” Brian says, cutting her off, and they both chuckle at some inside joke.

“No, I’m totally right,” Maddy corrects.

Brian smiles at her. “I’ll actually be down in L.A. in a month. How ’bout I call you then?”

“Great.”

“Nice to meet you, man,” Brian says, looking at me. He nods but doesn’t put out his hand.

I nod back.

Brian strolls away, buys a Snickers bar and a can of Red Bull, and leaves with a little wave to Maddy.

The minute he’s out the door, Maddy takes a giant step away from me, her face etched with annoyance. “What was that?” she asks.

“What?”

“That weird thing you just did?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Maddy puts on an exaggerated scowl, like she’s Hulk Hogan eying an opponent. “’Hey, Brian,’” she says in a low voice, clearly intending to imitate me but sounding more like Arnold Schwarzenegger imitating Maddy imitating me. “’I’m Maddy Milliken’s bodyguard and I’m going to beat you the hell up now,’” she adds.

“What are you talking about?” I say, chuckling.

Maddy pauses, assessing me, and finally shrugs. “Nothing. I guess I imagined it.”

“Imaged what?”

“Your weird… I dunno… vibe.”

“Oh, well, yeah. I was worried about you.”

“Worried about me? I was standing in a minimart, buying candy. Pretty low-risk activity, I’d say.”

“Uh, you absolutely were not standing in a minimart, buying candy—you totally fell down on that job, dude. You were standing in a minimart, getting picked up by a douche. And second of all—”

What?”

Shit. What the fuck am I doing? I’ve got to stop this shit right now. “Don’t get riled up, baby doll,” I say in my most soothing voice. “All I’m saying is you took so damned long in here, I started thinking maybe the store was getting robbed or you’d fallen into the toilet or something.”

Maddy twists her mouth. “Brian didn’t seem the least bit douchey to me.”

I shrug.
“What gave you the impression he’s a douche?”

“Just a figure of speech. So are you gonna do the job I hired you to do or not?” I motion to the candy rack. “‘Cause based on your performance thus far, you’re totally fired.”

“And I wasn’t getting ‘picked up,’” Maddy says, her tone full of indignation. “Brian’s brother goes to UCLA. Can’t I talk to a helpful, nice guy without it being some sort of a sleazy pick-up?”

“Sure you can. However, in this instance, you were talking to a helpful, nice guy who was picking you up so he can bone the living fuck outta ya.”

Keane.” Maddy’s cheeks burst with color. “Don’t say that. Oh my god. You’re insane. Brian was just being helpful, that’s all.”

“Yeah, so he can bone the living fuck outta ya.”

“Stop saying that. Please. It’s offensive and absolutely not true. This topic of conversation is officially over.”

TBRreview

I JUST finished! Well maybe 10 mins ago.
In the start of the book, you sorta dislike Keane (at least I did), because you can’t imagine this guy is for real. Like Maddy says “he’s like Daffy Duck in Prince Charming’s body”. And boy is he. The way he talks and projects himself is what makes him unbelievable.
But just like over the course of the car trip, I learned what makes Keane tick and that made me love him! Just like Maddy. Maddy can see through Keane’s – err BPH’s persona and see the Keane underneath.
Maddy believes in Keane like no one else has. Keane has been BPH for so long, that’s all anyone sees. Until now.
A great book, hilarious characters and just a feel-good read!

One word.

Two letters.

But those two letters changed everything.

It was impossible to predict the impact I would have on the life of the only woman I’d ever truly loved. No way to know that I would result in her ruin.

I’d suffer for eternity with the knowledge that it was me who brought devastation to her doorstep.

Though I deserved the anguish I felt, to see her suffer was unacceptable.

I would fix this.

Somehow I would prove to her that I wasn’t the monster she thought I was.

Even if it meant becoming a monster in order to make that happen.

EXCERPT

Then the door swung open and there he was. For a brief moment I was taken by his handsome features—his olive skin and pronounced jaw, the sparkle in his dark eyes, his perfect, straight nose. More than anything, it was the pull that remained between us that surprised me. Like I was a planet still circling his sun.

There was a moment when we locked eyes that the gravity of all that had happened wasn’t weighing heavy between us, and it almost caused me to stumble back.

Then, after the moment of intimacy had passed, I was sure I saw dread slip over his expression. I wasn’t going to stay put and find out though.

I wouldn’t be standing on his doorstep begging for whatever scraps of information he deemed worthy of casting my way. No, I was here to demand what he, at the very least, owed me, and I wouldn’t leave until he gave it to me.

“We need to talk.” I pushed past him, careful not to make contact, and bolted down the hallway toward the living room.

“Emily, this isn’t a good time.” Marco’s footsteps followed quickly behind me.

“I don’t care. Put aside whatever it is you’re doing. I want answers.”

I came to an abrupt stop when I stepped into the living/dining area and found Alexa sprawled across the couch like she was a feast ready to be enjoyed.

Her blouse was half unbuttoned, her legs draped over the cushions, causing her skirt to ride up a bit on her thighs, and her lips slightly swollen. Her lipstick had been rubbed off her mouth and onto her skin. She wore a saccharine smile that I wanted to rip off her face.

I crossed my arms over my chest and turned back to Marco. “Oh, I see. Well, pardon me for interrupting.” There was no disguising the venom in my voice.

His tortured gazed darted from me to her and back a few times before he schooled his features and responded. “Can we have this conversation some other time?” he asked, his voice neutral.

“Marco, who’s this?” Alexa purred from behind me.

I spun to address her with a fake smile on my face. “I’m Emily. We met at the art show a few months ago when I was there with Marco. Back when we were still fucking. You can call me Brandi, though.” I turned to lock gazes with him before finishing. “Everyone who knows me intimately does.”

His fists clenched at his sides and his jaw tightened. Good. Some small part of me was pleased that I was still able to elicit a reaction like that from him.

I swung my attention back to the blonde on the couch. “I’m sorry to swing by unannounced like this and interrupt what was obviously going to be a good time for you both. I just need a few minutes with Marco, and then I’ll be out of your hair.”

Alexa’s eyes narrowed on me for a moment, and though she was playing nice with me—probably for Marco’s benefit—it was clear she wasn’t pleased with the interruption.

“Perhaps I should go,” she said.

“No!” Marco said, whip fast. “Emily should be the one to leave.”

Not going to lie.

That stung.

A lot.

No matter that everything between Marco and I had been based on lies, the fact that I was so easily tossed aside smarted.

“I’m not going anywhere until we speak.” I leveled him with a gaze that told him I was serious.

“Why don’t you use my bathroom to freshen up, Alexa? It’s that way through my bedroom.” He pointed toward the room that we’d spent many a night in. “I’ll meet you there in a few minutes.”

A victorious smile crept across her face, and her gaze swung to me as she rose from the couch. She brushed her fingers across Marco’s chest as she passed him. “Don’t be too long.”

He nodded but didn’t spare her a glance as she passed, his gaze still fixed on me.

As soon as the bedroom door closed, I spoke. “Sorry to interrupt your play time, Marco, but you owe me some answers and I’m ready to collect.”

TBRreview

Before Burn, I had to prepare and go back and read Hook.  You need to have read Hook first to get the full story.

After Hook, I wasn’t sure how Marco & Emily’s story would continue.  It definitely was NOT was I was thinking/expecting.  I won’t say too much because I don’t want to give it away.

After Hook, Emily wants revenge.  And it’s by any means necessary.  She’s going to make someone/the people pay.  And Marco is of a similar mind.  They just both go about it in different ways.

I will just say, read Burn!  If you love Hook like I did, and was DYING for the continuation, Burn will fill that role!

She’s everything he wants. Even when she can’t see it.After her last relationship ended in the hospital, Lainey Eversman ditched Ohio to start fresh in a sleepy North Carolina town. Her tiny apartment above the Drunken Duck may be cramped, but she’s ready to let her big dreams erase those bad memories.

When she sprains her ankle, she reluctantly accepts Chris Harper’s help to cut her last few ties to Ohio, though she dares not accept anything else from the sexy architect. The last thing she can trust is her instincts when it comes to men.

Chris knew the fiery Lainey was his one and only the moment he set eyes on her. If only she’d let him get closer than arm’s length. But their trip to Ohio cracks the walls shielding her vulnerability, and she finally, hesitantly, takes that last step into his arms.

It’s still going to be tough to convince her to give love a fighting chance—especially with an ex who won’t take “go away” for an answer.

Excerpt

Chapter One

The idyllic countryside of Lainey Eversman’s new home left a lot to be desired when you were under attack by mutant country spiders. Four weeks ago she’d purchased ten lakeside acres in the lush mountains of North Carolina. Currently she was standing on a rickety kitchen chair swatting at a horde of massive spiders crawling through a crack in her cabin’s ceiling. All the while wishing desperately she’d never left the confines of city life.

She was trying admirably to not freak out like a total pansy, but when a shower of leggy spiders fell in her hair she gave up the fight. Giving a little squeak she launched herself from the old wooden chair and began to dance around like a lunatic while brushing her hands madly through her hair.

After a brief tussle with her own ego, she finally gave up and headed for a real shower. The kind with water and soap. No one had to know she’d nearly had a meltdown over a few spiders. Those ten acres, so happily purchased a few weeks ago, had come with a tiny hunting cabin. One room encompassing a very small and formerly very dirty shower, a toilet, a kitchen sink the size of her favorite pair of shoes, and a mini fridge fresh out of the box, all in a twelve-by-twelve room.

At the time it had seemed like the perfect place to hang tight while she had a place built. In retrospect she should have taken her brother and his girlfriend up on the offer to make use of their guest room until the build was completed. She loved both Cal and Molly, but she had little interest in finding them in compromising positions all over the apartment. Given the pair of them, it would be near impossible to catch them doing anything but getting frisky.

The creepy cabin in the middle of nowhere was her home for the duration. It wasn’t so bad, aside from the bugs, the smothering summer heat, and the incessant nature noise. No one ever told her living in the sticks was loud. Since her first week in the cabin she’d been serenaded nightly by an orchestra of bullfrogs, crickets, and assorted evening critters. Every morning the birds woke her at first light. Eventually she’d adjust to the nature sounds, but to date she’d been averaging about six hours a night; not really enough to feel rested. Altogether leaving her just a little bit cranky from lack of sleep.

In theory living alone surrounded by nature was an amazing retreat, but in reality it was quite the adjustment for a city girl leaping into the next stage of her life.

After scrubbing all the spider particles from every square inch of her body she exited the shower and tossed on a pair of simple cotton panties and the thinnest tank top she could find. It was a beautiful August evening, but the heat of the day hadn’t dissipated enough to leave Lainey comfortable. The heat and humidity left her feeling sticky the moment she toweled off from the shower.

Being a half-mile down a winding lane in the middle of nowhere had its perks. Sitting on her miniscule porch in her underwear with her feet propped up was definitely one of them.

Well, until she saw a car’s lights turn off the main road and make its way toward the cabin. It could only be a handful of people. Her brother Cal, Cal’s girlfriend Molly, or more likely Chris. Chris the hottie architect that she’d met through Cal and Molly, who was contracted to redesign the coffee shop she’d purchased.

Given the light glow of a near full moon, Lainey guessed it to be nearly ten. Rather late for a business meeting. Finally, she determined it was Chris, as his sleek black car eased slowly closer until it was nearly ready to park next to her own car on the far side of the porch. Lost in her own thoughts, she was about to greet the hottie architect in her panties.

Dammit.

Launching herself to her feet in an effort to reach the front door of the cabin before Chris cleared the porch was easier said than done. In her rush she almost crushed a cricket with a poorly placed foot. Attempting to save the cricket’s life, Lainey lurched to the left and managed to trip over her own feet. Landing in an inelegant pile, she watched the cricket hop away unharmed. As she was attempting to right herself Chris stepped into view and halted his progress at the foot of the porch.

TBRreview

This was a quick, sweet read. If you haven’t read the other books in the series, that’s ok but reading them gives you a little more background into the community.

Lainey is anything but conventional and is amazed that preppy boy Chris makes her heart beat faster. While she’s still running from her past, she doesn’t want to get involved with someone who is so different than her.

Chris is determined to show Lainey that differences can be a good thing and can often be only skin deep.

At times, she’d wondered if he had superpowers that he kept secret from her. How else to explain the way he managed to get so much done while also taking excellent care of her and Scotty? Sam kissed his cheek, and even though she knew she shouldn’t, she kissed his lips too.

“Mmm, not tonight, babe.”

Sam laughed out loud.

His eyes popped open.

“I think that’s the first time you’ve ever said no to me.”

Clearing his throat, he said, “I take it back. I never say no to you.”

“You’re allowed to today. How you doing?”

“Never better.”

“Now you’re lying to me?”

“Don’t want you to worry.”

“Too late for that.”

“How’s the boy?”

“Worried about TJ’s party.”

Nick winced. “Ahh, crap. That’s tomorrow, right?”

“Yep.”

“What are the odds that we’re going to be free of this plague by then?”

“Slim to none.”

“He’ll be so disappointed.”

“We’ll make it up to him—somehow.”

“I’ve got to go make a call, and then I’ll come back and tell you a story you won’t believe.”

 TBRreview

This book is suspenseful and sexy and intriguing, I didn’t want it to end! Well I was glad the mystery part ended. This book was like Scandal in written form. There are so many twists and turns and you don’t know who is working with whom and who you can trust, etc. It was just a fun read!

Sam is a Metro D.C. Police Lieutenant who is also the Vice President’s wife. She is also a Lieutenant who is suspended and possibly will be charged for the assault of a fellow officer. For good reason but that’s not considered.

She is leaving the station to start her suspension when a stranger comes up to her wanting her help with a case. And if you’ve read any of the other Fatal books in the series, you know Sam can’t turn down a case. What she doesn’t expect is the maelstrom of events, political issues and jurisdictional issues that come along with this case.

If you’re a fan of funny, sexy mysteries, you’ll want to read this latest installment!

Review ~ Don’t Tempt Me ~ by ~ Lori Foster

This book was a twofer; you get 2 HEAs in 1 book!  But they’re all interconnected.

Honor moves into the neighborhood, next to Jason and his brother Hogan and nephew Colt.  This is a tougher neighborhood and so Jason and his family take it upon themselves to help out Honor with her renovations.  At least, that’s Hogan and Colt’s reasoning.  Jason is immediately struck with Honor and wants to protect her, kiss her and possess her.

Honor is just trying to take care of herself, have her own place and live her life.  But she always seems to be scurrying about at all times of the day and night and really piques Jason’s interest.

Honor’s best friend Lexie, helps her move in and boy is she glad she did.  Honor moves into this neighborhood that has all this gorgeous man-meat, including Sullivan.  Lexie is the outgoing, fun-loving, do whatever to have a good time type of girl.  Lexie is as loud and out there as Honor is introverted and private.  Sullivan is just looking for a good time like Lexie is.  Except they both don’t realize just how much deeper they might feel about the other.

I love Lori Foster stories!  Especially if it’s a series.  I love the thought and depth she puts into the characters and each of their stories.  When you’re reading a Lori Foster novel, you’re experiencing it.

Also, where is this town where there are all these hot, alpha men?  I might need to move there!!

He’s such a good man, and he only ever sees the best in people, me included. It’s an amazing thing. The way he looks at the world, it’s like magic. Every bone, every muscle, every fiber of Beau Reed’s being is good, and he never stops proving that to me. He’s a good guy deep down in his core where it counts. I’ve always known that, even when I first met him. It’s something that radiates out from him like this big glowing light. Never have I ever met anyone like him.

But because he’s good, I have to make him go. ~Shelby

I can’t focus on anything else:
Soft, brown hair hanging in waves down to creamy skin that looks all too damned touchable.
Big eyes that could never be described with any justice, brown to green, maybe hazel, with so much vibrant light, etching them forever into memory.
Plump, smooth, kissable lips that are the stuff of fantasy, with the bottom one slightly fuller than the top, perfect.
Shelby.

It’s always Shelby, always been Shelby, and there doesn’t seem to be anything or anyone that can make that any different.

Except, now, there’s more at play than just her. For once, it’s not about Shelby Case, and despite my best efforts to save her, there’s things that I can’t rescue her from. ~Beau

NOTE: No Offense, Darlin’ is the first Like A Lady novel. While it could be read as a standalone, for the full effect of Beau and Shelby’s backstory, the Like A Lady serial should be read as a prequel to this novel. The first part of the serial, Big Girl Panties, is free.

Chapter One: Beau

“If the heat hangs on any longer, I’m gonna move to Colorado,” I tell Preston. “I’m done with it.”

“Hell, it’s only the first of October. We got a couple more weeks of the heat, man, and you know it. Best get used to it.”

“Somethin’ hasta give.”

“Listen, you’re actin’ like a lil’-”

My radio goes off, scaring the daylights out of us both. Laughing, I turn the loud buzzing down a bit and listen to the dispatcher calling for me over at the bar. Of course, it’s for me. It couldn’t be the fire guys. Getting up from my seat, I groan, wanting to cuss, but I’ve been workin’ on that shi- stuff. I’ve been watching what I say because, now I have a little niece toddling around repeating everything, my mom is gonna end up beating my backside if I don’t. One tiny shit or hell slips off her sweet lips, and we’ll all get our mouths washed out with lye soap.

“I guess I gotta go,” I tell him, grabbing my takeout cup and cookies off the table between us. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Nothin’ good ever happens on college night out at Rowdy’s.”

“Alright. Let me know about fishing in the morning. I won’t wait around forever.”

Shaking my head, because I know he’ll wait as long as I dam- dang well please, I head out of Subway, with a groan for all the stupid people in this town. The only thing to do around here on a weekend night is go to the bar or party in a pasture. We don’t have a theater or bowling alley in town. Heck, we barely have a restaurant that stays open past nine. Thursdays start the weekend early, offering up dollar beer to the college kids. It wouldn’t be so bad except all the rednecks around this place, including my brother Carl, act like idiots, thinking they are twenty-one, again. They can’t handle their beer, dang sure not their liquor, and it ends up in a huge, messy brawl. The whole thing is like clockwork, every single weekend.

The Tahoe is parked right out in front of the restaurant for ease of access, not that much occurs around Freemont except traffic violations, the occasional wreck, and domestics. Getting inside, I buckle up before flipping on the lights. The blue and reds light up the night, and several high school kids get into their vehicles. Instead of racing out to Rowdy’s, I take my time, careful of all the sixteen year olds. They’ve been loitering about since before I got here for dinner. It’s not a school night, thanks to the county-wide teacher’s meeting tomorrow, but it’s the least of my issues, apparently. They know better, though, because the owner is gonna complain about it on Monday, and then, I’ll be forced to give them grief next weekend.

Same ole thing, different day.

Calling in to Liz, I laugh when she sighs, dramatically. “What’s goin’ on out there, tonight?” I ask.

“I’m not real sure. Domestic disturbance of some kind,” she tells me, boredom soaking her every word. “I figure some drunk asshole beat up his old lady.”

“I’m bettin’ bar fight over a pretty girl. What are we wagering?”

“Ten bucks. I’m broke ’til payday.”

“What the heck is the city payin’ you? I’m broke, like livin’ on some dang noodles broke, and here you are wagering ten? Five.”

“Fine. Five it is, but you’re doing this cause you know I’m going to win.”

“We’ll see,” I laugh. Pulling into the rough parking lot, I park up front, watching as people scatter to the four corners. “I’m here, now. Talk to ya in a bit.”

“Be safe,” she tells me, as always.

“Ten-four.”

She says it like I’m not always safe. I mean, when have I ever given anyone the idea I wouldn’t be a hundred and ten percent, vest-wearing careful? I’m always careful. Well, most of the time, I’m careful. Sometimes.

Getting out of the car, I slam the door. The owner, Jeff, comes running over to me before I can even take a step in his direction. All six foot, three hundred pounds of him is barreling toward me at a speed I wasn’t sure he possessed, and quite honestly, I’m scared for my freaking life. I take a step back, just in case, but he stops short, waving for me to follow him toward the bar’s front door.

“What’s goin’ on, tonight?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “I don’t know what got into the fool girl’s head. I tell ya, she’s off her rocker, Beau. Don’t know what she was thinking, bringing trouble like this around here.”

Ahh, there’s always a girl, usually a sorta pretty one. Why is it always over a dang girl? Men do the stupidest sh- stuff over them. It’s something that’s hard wired into us, imbedded inside our DNA.

“Slow down. What exactly happened?”

Roger, a regular out here, holds the door open for Jeff and me. We both walk in like we own the place, and looking around, I don’t see anything out of the ordinary. The lights are still mostly in place in their ancient fixtures, the bar stools are intact, and there doesn’t seem to be any broken glass or pool sticks. I worked the Halloween Brawl. It occurred my first week on the PD and was some scary sh- stuff. It was bad, real bad, but this…well, it doesn’t look like that at all. Inside Rowdy’s, it looks like an extremely slow night, but Jeff doesn’t stop inside. He walks straight through the bar, down the hall by his office, and out the back. I follow along, thoroughly confused.

“She’s out here, Beau. I dunno what you are gonna do about it.”

“What the he-”

There’s no need to finish the sentence. I know exactly what he’s talking about, and suddenly, I wish it were Mike, Cliff, Jared, or anyone’s night to work this except mine. Why did it hafta be me?

“What’s going on out here?” I ask, directing my question to Jake Roberson. “Jeff says we have a problem.”

“Damn right we have a problem, Beau! Goddamn!” he yells back. He’s pacing back and forth, as if there’s too much energy inside him to be contained. “The stupid cunt is out of her damned head! What the hell was she thinking? She took a fucking baseball bat to my brand new truck! My brand new truck! You have to do something. Haul her ass in!”

Now, here’s the story. I don’t like Jake Roberson, not even a little bit, not at all. The way I see it, he’s screwed over one too many people in his two decades on this planet, and I figure he deserves about anything he gets. Even as a kid, he was a brat. Spoiled to the core. I’ve never known him to have a bit of niceness in his body. His parents have raised him to feel entitled, but best I can tell, there’s nothing all too special about him. He’s a lazy son of a bi- jerk, lives off his daddy’s money, and has managed to skate through life on his family name.

“Now, slow down. What are we talkin’ about?”

“You might as well go ahead and arrest me, take me to a cell. There’s no arguing with the high and mighty Roberson family.”

Jake jumps toward the soft voice behind me, lunging. His buddy Grayson pulls him back by his shirttail. He’s yelling at him to keep his cool, telling him he needs to keep his nose clean, but Jake is pissed and it shows. Turning, I look into the semi-darkness behind me, hunting for the face I know is there. The poor lighting hides a beautiful set of hazel eyes, but the face is there, looking good and furious. It’s like she’s daring me to take her up on her words.

She should know I never back down from a challenge.

I highly recommend reading the Like A Lady series prior to this book. And you will definitely have needed to before reading this review.

Shelby was a bone of contention in the Like A Lady series or Red & Mason’s relationship. So I went into this not a Shelby fan. How quickly that changed! You find out more about Shelby’s life and circumstances and you really like her – just don’t tell Red ;-).

Beau has been Shelby’s biggest fan/friend/wish he was more for years. He hates seeing her stress herself out and put herself out there for Jake “The Snake”. That’s my name for him – thanks WWE for the name.

I LOVE BEAU! I cannot explain how much I love Beau! I guarantee that in reading this book, you will love Beau too!

5 stars!

Synopsis

Author Note: This can be read as a stand alone; however, it is recommended to read prior novels first.

I’m an asshole; I know it, and I’ve never pretended to be anything else. I have a crazy flip switch temper but it made me the man I am today. I’m at the top of my game, a fighter with a reputation of a battler in the ring and an alpha in the bedroom.

I don’t have to chase women; they chase me. When I’m done with them, they’re left craving more. I’ve never needed more – never wanted more.

Until…her.

I’ve never wanted anyone so badly before, but my attraction to her could kill her.

Is the temptation worth the risk?

****Warning: This book contains strong sexual content, violence, and foul language. Intended for ages 18 and over. *****

Taylor and Harley’s story is surprising. That’s the best word I can think of to describe it. Taylor is an MMA fighter who is a sore loser one night and ends up in jail. Enter Harley, his best friend’s lawyer coworker, sent to bail him out. They’ve met before but I won’t tell you where. Just suffice it to say that Harley doesn’t have the highest regard for Taylor.

Harley is a great attorney, smart and dedicated and doesn’t need some oversexed, obnoxious fighter taking up her time. Until they both need each other…

A great story where so much happens! There’s a little something for every type of reader.

Release Day Blitz & Review ~ Right Place, Right Time ~ by ~ Jennifer L. Allen

Right Place, Right Time
Book Two of the Second Chances Series
 by
 Jennifer L. Allen
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Kate Dumont is an achiever, completely focused on her future. Playing the role of brilliant pre-med student doesn’t leave her much time for anything else. But is she working towards the future she wants, or the future her elitist parents have planned out for her?

Jay Spencer grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. He’s made some mistakes, and one in particular will follow him around for the rest of his life. He spends most of his days keeping himself out of trouble by following his passion, riding and repairing motorcycles.

Two lost souls meet on the side of a South Carolina highway three years ago, neither one knowing what the other would eventually mean to them. Reunited in California, Kate and Jay feel a pull towards one another they cannot explain.

Will they help each other bring out the best in themselves? Or are their lives too different to even have a chance?

“Stupid, no good, piece of crap!” I wince as my sandaled foot comes into contact with the unforgiving tire of my hand-me-down Mercedes convertible. My scowl turns into a frown when I pull my foot back and see the black smudge across the white straps. This day just keeps getting worse!

I tip my head back, look up to the clouds, and pray for cell signal. When that doesn’t work, I bargain. My first born … my soul … good behavior … even better grades …

No such luck.

I’m on a quiet stretch of the interstate, between Columbia and Greenville, where there have been too few passersby, not one of them kind enough to pull over and help the damsel in distress. And boy do I look the part of a damsel in distress in a white sundress and sandals with my long, dark blonde hair and big, doe-like brown eyes — the picture of innocence.

If it weren’t for the hot midday sun beating down on my shoulders, I’d probably be terrified. This whole situation has a classic serial killer vibe to it, add in darkness and I would not be standing outside my vehicle right now.

I lean back against the hot car and sigh. What a day. I drove all the way to Greenville to volunteer at a community clinic’s event, just to be informed upon arrival that the event had been rescheduled. They’d posted a notice at the site, which is really helpful when you’re one hundred miles away. I frown at my dirty sandal.

Stupid car. Yes, it’s a Mercedes, but no, it’s not brand new. It’s a 1995 model passed down from my father. It has seen many, many better days in its lifetime. My dad has always taken very good care of his cars, hence the reason this fifteen-plus-year-old car is now mine. My parents may be mostly absent from my life, but my dad wouldn’t have given me a beater for a car.

Truth is, I probably missed an oil change or something. Whatever. I don’t know anything about cars. Ask me to recite all the bones in the human body and I’ll do it. Ask me to name one part of a car and you’ll get crickets I’m practically a genius, according to my latest IQ score administered by the director of the “gifted program” at my high school, so I’m sure the mechanics of a car wouldn’t be too difficult for me to figure out and understand, but this is one of those instances where I’d rather succumb to the gender stereotypes and just play the clueless female role. There’s enough information floating around in my brain without my choosing to add more, though part of me kind of wishes I at least knew how to pop my hood right about now.

Hearing the sound of a vehicle approaching behind me, I spin around to look. Smiling wide, I’m suddenly grateful for my vehicular ignorance and damsel in distress appearance. It’s an older sedan, maybe not as old as my hand-me-down, but it doesn’t appear to be as well kept. I can just make out that the driver is male through the dirty windshield.

Jeez. I hope he’s not a serial killer or something! Seriously, Kate? You did not think this through at all.

I open my car door and busy myself looking for something that could be a potential weapon should this turn into Wrong Turn. Empty water bottle, a stack of flyers for another volunteer project I’m working on, a weathered copy of Gone with the Wind … I eye the book. It’s a hardback, it might be my best bet.

I hear a throat clear and pop my head up, narrowly missing bumping it on the roof of my car. I can only see his face over the roof of my car as he’s standing on the passenger side, lower in the soft shoulder of the highway. My five foot two inch height doesn’t help matters either. But wow, if his face is anything to go by, his body must be amazing. He has the most intense gray eyes, almost silver. His nose looks slightly crooked, like it’s been broken once or twice, and he has a strong, squared jaw for subtle stubble. His hair is buzzed very short so I can’t quite tell the color but it looks dirty blond, and he’s hot–er–sweaty. Yeah, sweaty. His brow is glistening with it.

He’s all man and my seventeen year old self doesn’t quite know what to do with the attraction I feel. I have never felt so nervous around a guy before. Ever. I simply don’t have time for this sort of thing. Not with my AP classes, studying, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and college applications.

“Hey,” I smoothly call out to him, if I do say so myself.

The corner of his mouth lifts in a slight smirk and butterflies take flight in my tummy He doesn’t move to come around to my side of the car, which is just fine by me. If he were any closer, he’d see the slight trembling of my hands and he might actually hear the swarm of butterflies.

“Know anything about cars?”

I love Kate! She reminds me of myself in that she’s lived for everyone else but herself. Kate is a certified genius who is going to medical school at Stanford to appease her mother and father.
Jay has come to California to see/be with Kate – his Sunshine. Which I love his name for her because my mom used to sing “You are my Sunshine” to me when I was a kid. Anyway, Jay moves across the US to be with Kate but still battles his lack of finances versus Kate’s “wealth” thought process.
Kate is amazingly strong and stands firmly in Jay’s corner and having his back. Even when Jay is tearing himself down, Kate is the one standing strong.
This was just an amazing amazing story that was a great read!! I hope we get to see something about Mac’s story next.
5 stars!
