Title: The Lost Island
Series: Amelia (Ami) Jane Gray
Author: Darla Stone
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: September 23, 2020

Amelia (Ami) Jane Gray spent her entire life growing up in Massachusetts. Sadly at the age of eighteen, she tragically lost both of her parents in a car accident just before her freshman year of college. While heartbroken over the loss, Ami didn’t let that stop her from attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. There she met her two best friends Andrew (Drew) Christopher Gregory and Jacqueline (Jackie) Louise Peabody.

Fast forward four years and these tight-knit friends have all graduated from college. Having been lucky enough to be gifted with a surprise trip through the Caribbean, Ami, Jackie, and Drew were excited for the vacation of a lifetime. That was until the three friends were notified that Jackie’s cousin Sloane Ivan Cranston would be tagging along. That should’ve been the first clue that this trip was about to change the course of their lives. A course that would send the four of them on an adventure they could’ve only barely imagined. Would they find their true love through the mystery that laid before them?

Not everything is what it appears to be!

EXCERPT
I swallow hard, my lashes lower, my lips dry. Me and him. It’s just me and him and God, I do need the escape and I know, I just know, that he needs the trust. Still, I can’t believe I’m going to do this. I can’t believe how much I want to do this. “Yes.”
He doesn’t speak but I can feel his approval wash over me. He kisses my neck, the earthy scent of him seducing me and promising to test my limits. He unzips my skirt, and a second later, he’s sliding it down my hips, and with only a tiny pair of panties and thigh-high tights on, he’s easily exposing my naked backside. Nerves and anticipation overwhelm me and I’m all but shaking, but I don’t feel fear. His fingers caress down the silk strip between my cheeks and I yelp as he yanks it away with a biting tug. But already, he’s made me forget that bite.
His hands are on my backside and he leans in, his lips close, so very close to my ear, his warm breath fanning my skin, and promising forbidden fantasies I didn’t even know to call my own until now.
“What are you thinking, Aria?” he asks, the same way he’d asked me one time before when I was in the wrong place when I needed an escape.
“About us, Kace. About what you’re going to do to me.”
He turns me to face him, his expression pure possession, his eyes meeting mine. And I could swim forever in the sea of his blue eyes, as every wave breaking around me only sends me crashing right back to him. “What am I going to do to you?” he asks as if he needs to know I can say it as if he needs to know I want this.
I wet my parched lips and say, “Spank me.”
“And do you want me to spank you?” The question is a mixed challenge and a raw seduction.
Suddenly, I’m drowning in my own confusing desire, and my lashes lower, heat rushing to my cheeks when his hand cups my face and he tilts his gaze back to his. “Do you,” he says, enunciating the words, “want me to spank you?”
“I want to get out of my head. I want to escape. I want you.”
His eyes darkens. “That’s not an answer.”
The waves are breaking again and when I might drown, I don’t. I really do crash right back into him. “Yes.”
“Yes? Yes what, Aria?”
“I want you to spank me.”
His eye light with approval and that approval splays over me like blessed sunshine in the chilly snowfall. I don’t know why his approval arouses or pleases me, I don’t know what that says about me, or him for that matter, but there is no denying the burn in my belly. There is no denying his control, and my submission sends a thrill through me like no other. His hands fit my waist, possessiveness in his touch, a branding that feels right when with anyone else it would be wrong. His cheek presses to my cheek, the roughness of his newly formed stubble an erotic pinch on my sensitive skin. “Who’s in control?”
“I am,” I say, and I mean it. This is about choice. I know that when I say yes or no to with Kace, he will listen. “And right now, for just a little bit, I don’t want it,” I add, and for once in my life, I mean it. “Take it,” I add softly. “It’s yours.”

I don’t do relationships. A federal agent whose life revolves around rescuing kidnapped children, I’ve got no interest in catching any man who’s not a criminal. So when my new assignment in Chicago requires me to get closer to a VIP Chicago Blaze fan, Blaze goalie Jonah West is the perfect cover. Jonah

I had my great love, and I lost her. No woman will ever compare to the blond ray of sunshine who left me half a man three years ago. And even though I help out my police officer brother by pretending to be head over heels for Reyna, it’s just a farce to put an evil man behind bars. Reyna is a fierce, raven-haired cop with steely eyes and a foul mouth—not my type in the slightest. Hey! My name is Sarah Brianne and after living for twenty-two years the characters in my head told me enough was enough and I have finally put pen to paper (or is it finger to keyboard?) to tell their stories. Since I was a little girl I have watched every chick flick I could get my hands on, then when I became older I discovered a whole new world of romance novels. To me there is nothing better then a tale of true love and those are the stories that have inspired me to write. Like everything else in my life I have put my own spin on two lovers destined to be together.

Release Date: September 22, 2020

She married the love of her life at nineteen—and then he died.
He knows he’s not somebody she should get involved with. But he can’t seem to leave her alone.
Alessia Casella Benatti had her happily-ever-after and now at thirty-four, is only interested in finishing up college and taking care of her three rambunctious boys. Both in short supply.
Dylan Davidson hates what he’s come to do at City College. Sure, it’s a boy dream to flirt with every available girl on campus. Nobody would guess that big, tough Dashing Davidson wants a woman in his life, one who’s all grown up and not concerned with her looks or the color of her nail polish. But his uh-oh alarm goes off when Ali Benatti befriends him. She doesn’t fit into the job he’s here to do, and not only will he break her heart, but he’ll jeopardize a very important mission.
Don’t miss all The Casella Cousins Books: Hayley, Seth, Finn, Alessia, Gideon and Ronan from the NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestselling author Kathryn Shay.

As soon as Alessia Benatti finished her afternoon class, she threw on her quilted jacket and raced out of the room, down the hall and to the exit. She’d just reached the door of the building when she heard, “Alessia, wait up.”

She turned. And gave a half smile. Any other time, she’d be thrilled that Derek Davidson, the dark-haired, blue-eyed heartthrob of the class had called out to her. He was movie-star handsome with a quick smile. That he also had a quick wit made him even more attractive. Despite the cold, he wore a thin leather jacket over a navy sweater. “I can’t—”

“Talk, I know. I saw you leave in a hurry. Did something bad happen?”

“No. It’s all good. I have to get home for a Girl Power Party and I don’t want to miss dinner.”

He pushed open the door for her. Once outside, her dark hair blew all over the place in the November wind. She tried unsuccessfully to contain it. “My car’s right down the street. I’ll take you to Hidden Cove. You can tell me on the way what a Girl Power Party is.”

Startled at his suggestion, she said, “Thank you so much for the offer. But I don’t want to put you out.”

He peered over at the busy traffic, honking horns and shouts of drivers on the street in front of the school. A light snow had begun to fall. “What would you do? Try to get an Uber at four o’clock on a Friday afternoon in lower Manhattan?”

She checked her watch. “Or walk to the train.”

“Which will be mobbed. I’m free the rest of the day.” His mouth crooked into a delicious smile. “Let me do this for you.”

“All right. And thank you.”

They hurried to a lot not too far way, the snow increasing to large, wet flakes, and stopped at an older, gray Honda Civic. He unlocked the door and opened the passenger side. She slid in, he got behind the wheel, checked the rearview mirror, then pulled out into the thick traffic that made the roads spit slush.

“This’ll save me tons of time.” She uttered the words once he started driving. “I really shouldn’t have come to school today, but I like this teacher and what she does in the course.”

“Me, too.” The windshield wipers squeaked on the glass as he glanced over at her. “So, what’s a Girl Power Party?” His voice was deep and husky.

She chuckled. “It used to be called a bachelorette party but none of us liked the name. This is for my soon to be sister-in-law, who’s marrying one of my brothers, and my cousin, who I’m very close to.”

“Two brides?”

“We have an interesting family.”

“Being there for family is important.” He winked at her. “You said that once in a group work session.”

“So did you. You’re from Brooklyn, right?”

“We were both paying attention.”

Alessia struggled not to sigh. When they were asked to relay some of their bio in Interpersonal Communication, a required course, he’d told the group that, too. The other eight females in this particular course of twelve had fawned over him. Not Alessia, though. Why bother? She wasn’t his type. Word had it he dated around, but never stayed with anyone too long.

As he got on the expressway, he relaxed back in his seat. Now, his scent, something spicy and male, began to fill the car. “Tell me about your brothers. You mentioned them in class.”

“The first one, Rafe, has a doozy of a story.” Doozy. What a stupid word. “He’s a firefighter captain and lost the love of his life seven years ago. She…abandoned him. But she came back, with his five-year old boy in tow. They eventually got together, married and she’s pregnant again.”

“Wow. Girl or boy this time?”

“A girl. She named Tomaso after my father even when they were split.”

“That’s sweet.”

“What are your twins’ names?” He’d also mentioned he had two children a year older than Pete.

“Hell on Wheels and Holy Terror.”

She laughed. “Yeah, I got a Hurricane Peter.”

He laughed.

“Any other siblings with drama like the first one?”

“Uh-huh. My younger brother Seth, the one who’s getting married, got stabbed last year where he works at Legal Aid by the disgruntled husband of a client.”

“Was it serious?”

“Touch and go for a while. But he recovered. He got back together with his long-lost girlfriend while he was recuperating, and they worked things out. And she—Julianne—was being stalked at the time, so they’d both been in danger. Their double jeopardy kind of brought them together again.”

He gave her a sideways glance. “Alessia, are you making this up?”

“Nope. Honest. And there’s more.”

He waited.

“My other brother’s a cop.”

“A hard profession.”

“Yeah, he’s hard in some ways, especially since he got divorced.”

“I’ll bet he’s a softie with you.”

“Why do you say that?”

“I can’t imagine anybody being mean to you. You’re so sweet.”

“How would you even know that?”

“Remember how Mary Jane started crying when Professor Jolson yelled at her? You spoke right up and told him she had a right to be chided respectfully.”

“Yeah. I couldn’t help myself.”

“Word had it you bought her a coke after class and talked to her. What’d you tell her?”

“That not all men were jerks.” Even she could hear the tinge of sadness in her voice.

“You said you were lonely after your husband died.”

“God, I said a lot.” Too much.

“What about him? Was he one of the good guys?”

“Absolutely. Do you have any siblings?”

“Um…a sister. Tell me more about your cousins.”

“Not yet. I’m doing all the sharing. I want to hear three things about you first.”

“Okay, I’m widowed, too.”

“You didn’t mention it.”

He cleared his throat. “It was too hard to talk about in class.”

“I’m so sorry. But you still have to give me two more things.”

“I spent some time in community theater here in New York.”

“Yeah?”

“It was a release for stress.”

“What do you do for a living?”

“Actually, I quit my job to get my teaching degree faster. I want to work with kids. Okay, that makes three. The cousins?”

“Living in New York. You probably know about the gala where a guy shot up the ballroom of a hotel last summer?”

“He’s your cousin?”

“No, his fiancée is. Hayley. She’s the other one getting married. I’m in the wedding.”

“How do you keep all this straight?”

“It’s my life. My other cousin owns Fitzgerald’s on MacDougal Street and knows the famous O’Neils.” She grinned. “Last one: my oldest cousin was a famous movie star twenty years ago.”

He shook his head. “No kidding?”

“Nope.”

“What was his name?”

“Ronny Case?”

“As in the Rebel movies?”

“Yep.”

“I’m bowled over by your family.”

“Not me, though.” The comment just slipped out. She usually kept her lack of uniqueness to herself.

“Why do you say that?”

“Nothing dramatic has ever happened to me. I’m an ordinary widow, mother and sibling.”

“Alessia Benatti, you’re anything but ordinary.”

“What a nice thing to say. But I’m okay with who I am. All I want is an ordinary teaching career.”

“Teachers change the world one kid at a time. That’s far from ordinary.”

“Is that why you went back to school?”

“It’s one of the reasons.” He looked straight ahead. “I need directions to the house.”

She was shocked. “Are we in Hidden Cove already?”

“Yeah.” As he drove out to the lake, her directions kept them from sharing any more, and too soon, Derek pulled into the long driveway up to the front of the house. The shuttered, dark gray building shot up three stories. Big stone steps led up to a door. The deck and dock around back had been a source of joy during her childhood. She’d spent wonderful times here.

When he stopped, she turned to him. “Thank you so much, Derek.” Spontaneously, she leaned over and gave him a peck on the cheek. “You know, you’re sweet too, to have done this for a stranger. I won’t forget how kind you’ve been.”

A quirky smile. “I wanted the trip to be easier for you.”

“That makes you even more special.” She watched him for a sec. “What’s your favorite cookie?”

“Excuse me?”

“I’ll make you some.”

“Chocolate Chip, of course.”

“I’ll bring them to the next class we share. Take care.”

“You too, Alessia. Have fun, but stay safe.”

As soon as he was out of sight of the house, Derek hit the steering wheel with his fist. “Fuck!” Grant Wilson would kill him if he knew the impulse Derek had given in to. He’d been working this case for five months, and the task force was involved even longer, and not once had Derek broken any rules. But he’d come to like Alessia Benatti from the courses they shared over the summer and now this fall semester. She had a quiet strength about her, an unassuming personality and—very important to him now—totally disconnected from the mess at the college.

Besides, he was lonely.

He’d happily listened to her bubble over about her family and her concern for her sons. For the hundredth time, he wished his life was that simple. Instead, he joined the bureau at twenty-two, right out of college, and started undercover work at thirty. Now, at thirty-seven, he was deeply entrenched. Grant, who would eventually become his handler, had warned him and a female operative when they were about to go undercover…

You have to lie to nice people, maybe even hurt them in order to find answers.

You can’t have a social life because you could slip up during sex.

You might even have to sleep with someone to get information.

The female agent didn’t flinch.

Derek cringed inside. But he’d pursued this life despite the drawbacks. It wasn’t too bad until this assignment. The case was slimy.

Or maybe he’d burned out. Grant warned about that, too.

For God’s sake, he told himself. Forget about Alessia Benatti and her family. Forget about that luscious black hair and eyes as dark as midnight. Just do the job. Catch the criminals involved, then when it’s over, decide whether or not to stay undercover.

He wouldn’t leave the organization, though. Derek Drake, aka Derek Davidson, was an FBI agent through and through.

New Release Review ~ Wild For You ~ by ~ C.C. Wood

How I needed more of Gary the raccoon’s adventures. Well and Sierra and Ben too. But I was really in it for Gary. Well Ben and Sierra might have been a part of it but mostly Gary.

I was intrigued by Sierra when we met her in Cam and Brody’s story. CC gave us a tantalizing glimpse into Sierra and I immediately needed more! Her and Ben’s story was not what I was expecting. Ben, who seemed like the playboy in Cam’s story, he didn’t really seem quite like that once we got to know him.

Sierra, Oh Sierra. Girl had a lot of issues in her past that definitely has shaped her, not in healthy ways as she grew up. She isn’t looking for a relationship, which is where Ben’s playboy ways will work well for her. I think this could have worked for Sierra if Ben wasn’t so closely tied to her family and if Ben was truly the playboy she thought he was.

I can’t wait to read Lee’s story!! With 4 older brothers, I can just imagine how she grew up!

5 stars!!

Exclusive Excerpt:

He might have just met her, but she captivated him. Plus, there was the whole mystery of them both being here at the same time. Call him paranoid but he didn’t believe in coincidence. Not when an email from an unknown source had brought him here.

If he wanted to figure out who was behind the missive, he’d have to stick close to Jo. What a hardship. He grinned at her retreating back. Her strides were long and sure, without hesitation. This was a woman unconcerned about walking alone at night. She’d be the same, maybe even more relaxed, if he wasn’t with her.

They walked for about five minutes without talking. Around them, the forest was silent except for the wind rustling the branches and the occasional scurry of a small animal through the underbrush.

The air was crisp and the moon bright. A perfect night for a romantic stroll through the woods. Too bad she was determined to outpace him.

Jo stepped over a fallen tree and skirted around a rock. A truck rumbled in the distance. They were almost at the road.

“I’m not giving you a ride.”

Still grinning, he picked up the pace until he was alongside her. “You’re going to let me walk home by myself. This late at night.” He heaved a sigh. “Chivalry is dead.”

Again, she gave a quick laugh before her lips pursed. “I’m sure you can manage. You had to get her somehow. Where’s your car?”

He shrugged. “I came on foot.” It would probably be better to lie but he stuck with the truth.

“Seriously.” She shook her head and ducked under a low-hanging branch. “You local?”

“Nope, hitched a ride part of the way.” Not a lie but not the whole truth. He’d hitched a ride on top of a transport truck for part of the journey, mostly for the fun of it. The driver hadn’t even known he was there. It was a great way to see the countryside and the cold certainly didn’t bother him. The rest of the way, he’d run at top speed.

“You’re insane. You know that.”

“You’re the one who fought and beheaded a vamp,” he reminded her.

She whirled around, crossbow in hand. “And just what were you doing? Were you hoping to get turned?”

He placed his hands dramatically over his heart and shook his head. “After all we’ve been through together, you’re going to shoot me?” The odds were about fifty/fifty. Although given the glint in her eyes, it might be more seventy/thirty, and not in his favor.

Clover

February first and there’s more snow. In Condor Washington, it’s barely ever sunny. So, we’re used to rain and snow. I’ve got work in about two hours, so I need to take my one-year-old husky, Mia for her morning walk. I stomp the ground to get her attention. See, Mia is deaf, and I’ve had to teach her tricks. Certain signs mean certain things. She understands them. We’ve been working on them since she was six weeks old. I make the sign for a walk. It’s my pointer, and middle finger pointed down and looks like they’re walking. She barks, even as pitiful as it might sound she tries. Grabbing her leash. I hook her up, and off we go. We always walk at least three times a day because while I’m at work, she stays penned in our little apartment. We don’t live in a bad neighborhood. We’re surrounded by decent-sized houses. With my apartment building being one of two. It’s nothing like where I grew up. Where you weren’t sure if you were going to eat tomorrow or not. I went hungry more often than not.

I’m checking my schedule this morning. It’s usually what our morning walk consists of. Schedules. That’s what happens when you have to work to keep a roof over your head.

Mia’s leash slips from my hand, and she’s gone. Damnit! I’d yell, but it would fall on deaf ears. Pushing my phone into my pocket, I take off running. I hate running. Who am I kidding? I hate all exercise. It’s why my ass is a little flabby, and I’ve got a small pudge on the front.

The tip of my boot hits a dip in the snow. Down I go knee and face-first into it. Son of a bitch! It takes me a minute to get off the ground, and I’m gone again. I hear dogs. Are they mating? You’ve got to be kidding me! Please be another Husky. Coming upon them, that is no Husky. No. Of course not! There goes breeding her for money.

“Marius! Heel!” I look up as I hear a man’s voice. Dark hair, scruffy face. He’s coming down the stairs.

I take a step toward the dogs, and the Doberman that has my poor Mia mounted turns on me. “Easy puppy. I’m not trying to hurt you.” I stop moving and speak calmly.

“Marius! Damnit! Get a life!” The man hollers, and this white devil trots off like he wasn’t just about to eat me! The man reaches the bottom of the stairs and just looks at me, all out of breath, clutching his right knee.

I move to Mia, squatting on the ground next to her. I hold my hand up for her to stay then turn my palm up for her to sit, and she does. I look up at the guy just watching me. “I’m incredibly sorry. She got away from me.”

“Obviously. You know if you can’t control her, maybe a harness would be better than that cheap-ass collar?”

“Her collar is just fine. I could have stopped her had she been able to see me.” I stand from the snow.

“You appear to be bleeding.” He turns back toward the stairs. “It should be looked at.”

“I’m sure I’ll be fine. I need to get Mia home before your dog attacks her again.”

“If it comes into our yard, it belongs to us. We have the gates and the hedges for a reason.”

“That’s delusional! Who are you some crazy who thinks you have all the rights in the world because you have the money to blow on a big fucking house? Get a life.”

Woof! Woof!

Suddenly I’m being knocked to the ground, and that fucking dog is on me! Jesus Christ! “Get off!” I cover my face as the dog licks and kisses me. He’s lifted off, and I’m pulled to my feet. This guy has got to have ten inches on me!

“You are asking for it, aren’t you?” He gripes. “I just told him to go, and you call him back?” He huffs, looking me over. He grabs my head. “You need medical attention. I have a first aid kit. Come inside, that pup needs water look at her panting.”

“What do you expect? Your dog mounted her!” I want to scream but don’t.

“I’m sure she’s fine, I don’t think he had time to finish.” He takes my hand, pulling me, that’s when I notice the cane.

“Stop for a second.” He stops, and I turn back to Mia, giving her the hand gesture for come, and she walks along beside me.

“Up.” He commands the dog, and up the stairs, he goes. It takes a moment to get up with him and the cane, but once we do, he hands me a towel. “For her paws and coat.”

“Thank you.” I take it and turn, giving Mia the sign for heel, which is my hand on my hip. I wipe her down. He does the same for his, and then opens a set of doors.

“Marius, get food.” The dog takes off into the house, and he closes the doors, crossing me to a second set. “We’re going in here, best to keep them apart, I assume.”

“I would think so.” I walk into and shut the door.

It’s as he hobbles off that I get a look around. We’re in his room. He goes into another room. My eyes are darting around. Mia has seemed to find water and food. Why did he bring me in here? Then it dawns on me what he said. If it comes into our yard, it belongs to us. Dear God, please don’t let him try to attack me. I’d never be able to make him stop. Nothing is red or black, so maybe he’s not into kinky shit. Instead, it’s a white carpet with cream walls—a wooden bed with gold bedding. I’m rooted to a spot. I can’t seem to make myself move.

“Are you okay?” His voice emerges from the room ahead before him. He’s carrying a small white box with a big red cross on it. “Sit over there.” He points with a finger toward a chaise lounge in the room. “The light is better.”

“I’m not having intercourse with you,” I state boldly.

He furrows his brow confusedly, “Um good, I should hope you don’t go around having intercourse with random strangers. Unless you’re being paid to, of course.”

“God, no!” I feel my cheeks heat. “You’re not going to try to attack me, right? Like your dog did to Mia.”

“I assure you there will be no mounting occurring in this room today.” He smiles sheepishly. “Now come sit, I won’t bite.”

My face heats up more as I slowly walk across the room to a chaise lounge. Sitting, I wince as bending my knee all the way appears to hurt. He grabs my face, and standing over me, he brushes the hair out of my face. He huffs.

“You’ve got gravel in here, we need to rinse it, you’ll have to come into the bathroom. Follow me.” He sounds so thrilled. I get up and am now limping just like him. Great, he’s gonna think I’m making fun.

Any book with dogs or cats, I’m in for. Well mostly. Anyway, once I saw dogs, I was in. I will be honest from the get go, as a board member of various Spay Neuter non-profits, the fact that these dogs weren’t fixed bugged me. But that’s my own thing. But still, spay and neuter your pets! Ok, end of PSA.

Bennett is definitely reclusive millionaire. I sort of thought of him like Beast in Beauty and the Beast. Hidden away, not wanting guests or friends, almost hermit-like. Except Clover wasn’t a Belle. She was sassy and feisty and I loved her dog Mia and her name.

Bennett and Clover are as opposite as they could ever be but they’re sorta stuck with each other while Mia was pregnant with the puppies. But over time, they start to tolerate and even like each other.

This was a good, light-hearted read that kept me entertained.
