When I landed in town to do my sadistic stepbrother’s bidding, I never imagined I’d

come face to face with the man I spent one unforgettable night with five years ago.

And I definitely didn’t expect him to be part of the MC I was sent here to spy on.

Still, I’m desperate to save my family and get us far away from the chaos that has

Kate is a lover of all things books. It doesn’t matter what genre, as long as there’s a HEA, she’s in. She started reading romance in high school and would hide novels in textbooks to read during class. Becoming an author was always a dream she had and finally decided to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) and write what she loves. She grew up in the beautiful upper peninsula of Michigan then became a West Coast girl where she lives with her amazing husband and hilarious son. We were oil and water the first time we met, and nothing has changed. He’s my sister’s ex, and the

father of her child he claims he didn’t know about.

Now he thinks he has every right to take my niece from me, and the only way I can be a part of her

life is to live with the one person who gets under my skin simply by breathing.

But someone needs to tell that to the butterflies that explode in me every time he turns his

She leans up and softly kisses me like I did to her moments ago. Tentatively, like she isn’t sure what I’ll do next. Maybe my words haven’t convinced her yet that I’m not going to freak out and push her away like I did last night. That’s about to be rectified.

I band my arms around her and pull her harder into me, hearing a sweet gasp escape her beautiful mouth. The mouth I can’t stop wanting to devour.

“I want to make this perfectly clear to you now, Sunshine. I want this. I want you and all that entails. The shit that happened last night won’t happen again. I’m not afraid and I’m not going to push you away. The way I see it, we’ve both got shit to figure out and get over, but that’s just part of life. I want to start living life. I want everything you are, even the so-called damaged parts. They match mine,” I say as my eyes bore into hers.

It hits me like a shot to the heart just how true that statement is. Both of us are waiting for the next tragedy, the next boogeyman, to get us as she described it. We’re both waiting for the next person we love to be taken from us. Look where that’s gotten us. Alone, scared, and angry. God, I want to turn that around. I want us to have something good that we don’t have to be afraid of losing.

He says all the right things, everything I wanted to hear that day. The only problem is I don’t know if I’m ready to forgive him.
