About Christin Brecher

Christin Brecher was born and raised in NYC, where her family and many childhood friends still reside. As such, she feels she is as much of a small-town girl as any. The idea to write the Nantucket Candle Maker series sprang from her life-long connection to the small island off the coast of Massachusetts. Spending summers there as a child, Christin read from her family’s library of mystery novels, after which she began to imagine stories inspired by the island’s whaling heyday, its notoriously foggy nights, and during long bike rides to the beach. After many years in marketing for the publishing industry, followed by years raising her children, Murder’s No Votive Confidence is Christin’s debut novel. The Barbershop Girl by Evie Snow

Series: Evangeline’s Rest #3

Publisher: Exile Publishing

Release Date: February 27, 2020

Subgenre: Romantic Comedy

TBRsynopsis

Ben Martindale needs cutting down to size…

You don’t become a notorious British celebrity without rubbing a few people the wrong way, so writer and comedian Ben Martindale has decamped to Australia until the media frenzy surrounding his latest scandal dies down. When he meets Amy Blaine, a perky blonde barber who dresses like a 1950s pin-up girl, he knows he’s hit the comedy jackpot.

Amy Blaine is used to being underestimated because of her appearance. But she knows the dedication it takes to run her own business and to have survived a difficult childhood. She doesn’t need anyone to validate her choices. When she first meets Ben, all she sees is a rich Englishman looking for someone to ridicule, but before long he’s convinced her differently, barraging her with a charm offensive that’s impossible to resist.

Ben begins to fill his weekly London column with snarky observations about Amy’s house, style, troubled family members and dramatic employees. It doesn’t occur to him that Amy, who is slowly letting her guard down for the first time in her adult life, might just be a little bit upset when she finds out…

Excerpt

“Do you mind if we change the playlist?” Ben slanted Amy a sideways look. She’d been singing off-key karaoke for the past ten minutes and, amusing as it was, he’d reached his limit.

“Oh, sorry.” Amy’s cheerful smile dimmed momentarily.

“Anything else is fine. Just no more Elton John doing Disney. It’s an insult to my car.”

“That’s what you said about Gerald.” Amy nudged his arm.

“He’s an insult too. Thank God you didn’t bring him along or he would have been howling at all this noise.”

Amy snorted. “He loves my singing.”

“How can you tell?”

“He wagged his tail once. Be nice about my dog or I’ll make you drive back to Myf’s to pick him up.”

“Perish the thought. If I remember correctly, we weren’t talking about the dog, we were talking about your abominable taste in music. Disney?”

“It makes me happy. Come on, everyone loves The Lion King.”

“I don’t. Can’t stand it. It’s a tragic tale of death and woe overshadowed by a blatant marketing campaign. It says a lot that I’ve put up with it this long.”

“It says that you’ve been too distracted doing indecent things to your car accelerator to notice anything else. What d’you want to listen to then?” Amy flicked through her music selection. “Cos most of my stuff is like this. Lady Gaga—”

“No.”

“Taylor Swift—”

“Definitely not.”

“Britney Spears. Okay, I can already guess the answer to that one. This is all I have. I like happy music.”

“So do I. Britney Spears doesn’t make me happy. She makes me want to pre-emptively burst my own eardrums. No more ditties from ladies who flash their titties. Time to flick through my collection.” He was rewarded a few minutes later with a loud snort of amusement.

“Jay-Z, Dizzee Rascal, 50 Cent, Wu Tang Clan? Stormzy? Ben, you’re white, sweetie.”

“Sort of pink in some parts too,” Ben said blithely. He had a passionate love for most forms of music and refused to let a little thing like the fact he was white and middle-class get in the way.

“Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Michael Franti . . . This is better.”

“How about something a bit louder? This is a very impressive vehicle and a very long stretch of road.”

“Okay. Hmm. How about . . . this.” The sounds of Bon Jovi filled the car.

“That is not in my collection,” Ben exclaimed in horror. Even as he said the words, he vaguely remembered Marcella adding a few songs that he had yet to purge. It seemed she was haunting him.

“Yes it was. Look at this! Poison, Cheap Trick . . . I never would have guess you had a thing for eighties cock rock.”

“I do not, and it can be purged right now.”

“Okay, then this.” The Foo Fighters fired up and Ben grinned.

That’s better.”

Blog Tour & Review ~ My Bestie’s Ex ~ by ~ Piper Rayne

I can’t borrow him.
He’s not a sweater or a skirt.
He’s not even her favorite dress—the lucky one she wears on first dates. The one she probably wore on her first date with him.
In my defense, I didn’t know who he was. To me, he was a cool, calm, confident stranger. He was perfection for the entire hour and a half train ride while the concrete jungle turned into a rolling green landscape.
To an outsider, we probably appeared more friends than hopeful lovers. But my blush came quickly, and his dimples indented with every smile. We definitely shared a spark of what could be.
Too bad I didn’t know who he was before I fell for him, because he can’t be mine.

Paris—the city of love, lights … and murder? Join tour guide Lana Hansen as she escorts five couples on an unforgettable Valentine-themed vacation to France! Unfortunately it will be the last trip for one passenger…

Lana Hansen’s future is looking bright. She has money in her bank account, a babysitter for her cat, and even a boyfriend. Regrettably she won’t get to celebrate Valentine’s Day with her new beau, Chad. Instead, she will be leading a lovers-only tour in France. Luckily for Lana, her best friend, Willow, and her partner, Jane, will be joining her.

Things go downhill when Lana’s new boyfriend shows up in Paris for her tour—with his wife. Chad is not the website developer he claimed to be, but a famous restaurant critic whose love of women rivals his passion for food.

After Chad drops dead during a picnic under the Eiffel Tower, a persistent French detective becomes convinced that he was poisoned. And the inspector’s sights are set on several members of the tour—including Lana!

While escorting her group through the cobblestone streets of Montmartre, the grand gardens of Versailles, and the historic Marché des Enfants Rouges market, Lana must figure out who really killed Chad before she has to say bonjour to prison and adieu to her freedom.

Introducing Lana Hansen, tour guide, reluctant amateur sleuth, and star of the Travel Can Be Murder Cozy Mystery Series. Join Lana as she leads tourists and readers to fascinating cities around the globe on intriguing adventures that, unfortunately for Lana, often turn deadly.

The Travel Can Be Murder Cozy Mysteries are heartwarming stories about making friends, traveling, and celebrating new experiences. Book OneDeath on the Danubeis available now. Coming soon: Books Three (Death by Windmill) and Book Four!

TBRreview

Another great story in Lana’s life as a destination tour guide – which funny, I’ve been seeing ads on different apps for a destination tour guide service for Italy. Just ironic, or my phone knows what I’m reading :). Anywho, Lana is headed to France this time with a group of married couples to take them around France. Which I love reading about these destination places because I can’t fly over large bodies of water and this takes me there.

There is all sorts of mystery and intrigue afoot along the trip, although I think Lana just has an inquisitive mind that searches for these things. But maybe when you’re a destination tour guide, you have a more mysterious life. And a tentative boyfriend that she met through a dating site who ends up as one half of a married couple on Lana’s tour. Oh the drama.

This was such a great read and one I can see becoming cozy mystery movies.

4 stars!

Book Blurb:

Alexei

I guess the party’s over—for now.
When I wake up in the hospital after a DUI car crash, my new NHL team owner gives me an ultimatum – get sober or get packed for the minor leagues. So I talk the talk and go to rehab. I plan to breeze through, get sprung in 30 days or less and hit the road with my new team, the Chicago Blaze. All I have to do is charm my attractive, uptight rehab group leader into thinking I’ve changed—how hard could it be?

Graysen

I see right through Alexei Petrov.
My calling to save addicts from themselves before they self-destruct is deeply personal. Alexei’s hot and successful, sure. But he’s not okay, and he’s got a lot of work to do before graduating from my group. No one’s ever tested my boundaries like he does, though. I fight my desire and keep things professional, because the stakes couldn’t be higher—it’s not just my job that’s on the line, but also his life. The deeper we fall, though, the more he makes me question the mantra I live by: never trust your heart to an addict.

TBRreview

I MIGHT have read this book from start to finish at work (don’t tell)! I was THAT into Alexei and his story! First off, Brenda Rothert is one of my go-to authors! I know that I will read an AMAZING story once I open the cover (or tap on the cover on my Kindle) of any of her stories. Plus, I love sports stories – even hockey which I know less than nothing about. And a wounded male lead character? I’m SOLD! And Alexei did not disappoint.

You do not read to the other books in the Chicago Blaze series in order to read and LOVE Alexei, but it’s nice to read (at least) Anton’s story for a little of his background since Alexei is his brother.

Alexei and Graysen are both such complex characters. I love a good story where you get to explore the many layers of a character and we get to with both main characters. This story touches on SO many topics and they are all done tastefully, especially because they are mostly set in a rehab center.

Quite possibly, Alexei might be my favorite Blaze player – don’t tell the others!!

5 stars!
