Boom.
Clash.
Argh!
My fingers weave in my hair and tug hard. A loud yell escapes my lips, and my eyes land on the reason for the ruckus. An excruciating cry bubbles in my chest, slowly building as if adding to my pain. With another scream, the tornado within me explodes. It escapes angrily, as my body swooshes around my house, knocking things down as I come in contact with them. Glass shatters. Metal clacks against the tile. Cushions swoosh as they’re thrown through the air.
Uncontrollable and destructible fury burns within me until I melt into a pile of ashes on the cool tile. The water from my eyes extinguishes the burning heat as I sink further onto the floor. I curl into myself, fists hitting the hard surface.
I don’t know how long I stay like this for, but eventually I start to drift away, my mind numb and my heart slowing down. Before I completely fall asleep, I sit up. My head is pounding and my body is stiff from tension. I close my eyes for a few beats, and reassess the destruction around me when I reopen them.
I was okay a few days ago when Olivia came by. As okay as I could be in my situation. Today, I lost it. Something inside me triggered and I lost control. I tiptoe around the broken glass with my bare feet and grab the broken frame I launched across the living room.
I hug it to me, careless of shards of glass that could cut me. “I’m so sorry,” I whisper into the frame. “I’m such an asshole. Sorry.” I fight the urge to cry again. I pull the frame from my chest and stare at the picture of Josh and I. The glass scratched a bit of the gloss, but it’s still a beautiful picture of us. I shake off the excess glass, not even wincing when I get a small cut on my finger. The pain is welcomed.
After cleaning the mess, I sit cross-legged on the couch with a fresh glass of wine. Nothing will get rid of this headache, so I might as well fuel it with alcohol. Besides, I could use the disconnection alcohol offers. Another night of forgetting for a little while about the loss I’m grieving. Another night I sleep through most of it.

“Could you…I mean, would it be okay if you sang to me?” My
head snaps up and I look at him. He’s looking down sheepishly, but he raises
his eyes to meet mine. 
“Why sing if can’t hear you?” 
“I can a little…if you let me put my head on your chest.” I
look at him skeptically and he is quick to follow up, “I swear it’s not a line.
My mom used to sing to me that way, and it’s been a while, so I was just
curious if it would work with you.”
“Light on off which?” I repeat. 
“I prefer low light, always on.” He flips off the main switch
and turns on the nightstand light, which isn’t more than an amber glow. 
I roll to my back and he places his head on my shoulder. I
think about what song to sing. It’s not like it’s really going to matter much
to him, but I never make a song choice without thought. Music is the sound
track of life to me, so I decide something a little sad and soulful is in
order. I pick ‘Hallelujah’ by Jeff Buckley. Singing while flat on your back
with a person on top of you is no easy feat. I guess it doesn’t really matter
what the sound is like as long as the vibration is there, so with that in mind,
I keep my tone low and raspy. Luckily, I tend to feel right at home singing
alto, so this works out pretty nicely. 
I start off soft and low, and let the music build. He is
tentative in the beginning, who am I kidding, we both are. This should be
seriously awkward. We hardly know each other and we’re entering major bubble
territory…yet there’s also something very innocent and pure about it. I can
tell when he starts to relax and is more comfortable. I’m really letting go as
well now and just singing from my soul. He moves to where his head is fully on
my upper chest, right below my throat. By the third verse I stop worrying about
how weird this might be and the beauty of the situation full on hits me. I’m
able to give this man something that he’s never been able to give himself.
Sharing the joy of music isn’t only a passion for me, it’s a need, so we are
just two souls fulfilling a great need in each other.
His tears are completely silent as they slowly hit my
exposed skin and pool in the hollow of my throat. They spark my own tears. The
idea that I can touch him so deeply this way, giving him nothing but my voice,
touches me deeply. Without thinking, I bring his arms around me and place his
hands flat against my back so he isn’t only getting the sound vibrations from
my chest, but he can also feel them from behind. It has its desired effect when
he sighs out against my neck. The song ends but neither one of us move. To be
honest, I have no words. In this type of communication words are useless. I
close my eyes and go right into ‘Brightest’ by Copeland. Somewhere around ‘As
my guitar gently weeps’ by the Beatles, I drift off.

This book! I loved it!!! I’ve read a lot of Sandra’s books and this is different than her MC series. Max is similar as the men in the MC books as he’s just as cocky and alpha and hot as the MC men. Max is the hot, cocky, braggart you meet at the bar and end up falling for him.

Alina is a do-gooder who is trying to fall in line with her dad’s plan for her: marriage to a man of his choosing and she will inherit the law firm. Except Max. Oh Max. Alina meets Max and all bets are off. She’s insanely attracted to Max but he isn’t her fiance…

So much happens in this story but it’s not overloaded and flows perfectly. You fall hard for Max and root for him and Alina to work their way through everything!

I sit back in my desk chair and look out at the city. It’s the same window my father looked out of for longer than I can remember. I’ve been thinking about him and my mom a lot lately. They’re off on another vacation enjoying one another and life. They call and check in, but I know they’re happy traveling the world.
I’ve got a stack of papers on my desk that I need to go over, but I don’t feel like it today. For some reason, I’ve felt an ache in my chest for the past couple of days, one I haven’t felt in a long time, mostly because I’ve learned to ignore it. But the beating in my heart can’t be ignored, and my thoughts drift to Kory, just like they always do.
I rub the place between my ribs and wonder if this is exactly what my father felt like, looking out onto a city where he knew the love of his life was, but she was just beyond his reach.
For years I tried to fight it, but it never once went away. Not even for a second.
I think back to the day I asked her to the prom and how it all seemed so perfect. I picked her up at her apartment and met her mom. We laughed and held hands while we went to my aunt and uncle’s house for pictures. She looked so beautiful in her white dress. I kept thinking she looked more like a bride, and I loved it. At eighteen years old, I pictured her walking down an aisle to me, and I wanted so badly for it to be real.
But then everything went to shit, and in an instant, it was gone.
I’m my father’s son, even though I’ve spent my life trying not to be. I knew the way he was with my mom. He was out of his mind for her, and nothing else mattered. I never wanted to be that way. I didn’t want someone to have that much power over me because it was dangerous. That’s what I knew to be true. But all it took was one look at Kory and all of that changed.
It’s been years and I haven’t gotten over her. The day she disappeared was the day I lost my soul. She took it with her, and I’ve never so much as glanced at another woman since. Why would I? I might have been young, and it might have not meant anything to her, but I’ve never felt anything like it since. I knew when I was eighteen that I’d met the love of my life, but she slipped through my fingers.

Henry fell for Kory as soon as he saw her. She kept to herself, was a scholarship recipient to his ritzy private school but she held his attention like no other girl or woman had. He finally asked her to prom and surprisingly, she accepted.

Fast forward 10 years where Kory is moving back home and Henry finds her. And that’s it. He’s not losing her a second time when she’s the only woman he’s ever and will ever love.
