Release Blitz ~ Battle Scars ~ by ~ Emily Goodwin

Title: Battle Scars
Series: Love is Messy Duet #2
Author: Emily Goodwin
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: June 29, 2017

They say time heals all wounds, but sometimes it does just the opposite. The pain festers, seeping deep inside and into your heart. By the time you’ve realized what happened, it’s too late and you’re left with a scar that will never go away.

I’ve spent the last year hiding my scars, running from the man who gave them to me. What I thought was love turned out to be a nightmare that won’t end, even though I forced myself awake. Love isn’t real. Love only leads to heartache.

And then I met him, the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. Throw in some sexy confidence and a panty-melting grin, and you have the recipe for a broken heart. Only, my heart is becoming full again, being put back together piece by piece the more time we spend together.

I’ve been down this road before and know it’ll end in two ways: we’ll ride off in the sunset together and live happily ever after, or we’ll crash and burn so hard neither will survive the wreckage.

I want to be hopeful, but history is damned to repeat itself. And I have the scars to prove it.

Emily Goodwin is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author of over a dozen of romantic titles. Emily writes the kind of books she likes to read, and is a sucker for a swoon-worthy bad boy and happily ever afters.

HUDSON
When I became a single father at seventeen, I knew my path wasn’t going to be easy. Hell, sometimes it sucked. Year after year, I tirelessly busted my ass until my business was booming. Until my daughter was happy. Until life? It was good. Settled.
But sometimes being settled is overrated. Boring. Especially when a little excitement walks through my door in the shape of Rae Kamden. With her sarcastic mouth and smartass comebacks, she’s the type of girl still sowing her wild oats and not looking to settle. Not with a guy like me.

RAE
I’ve been stuck in this small town since I was a child and nothing is going to keep me here. Not anymore. Done being tied down, I’m out of here the first chance I get. This town can kiss my ass goodbye.
I’m twenty-two. Single. Unwilling to settle. But if I did? It wouldn’t be with Hudson Tamell.
So explain to me why the moment he looks up from under the hood of my car, the sarcastic replies on my lips come out sounding sweeter. Why does he make me want to settle down, right here, with him?
That’s not what I wanted. But maybe it’s what I need.

By day I’m a freelance cover designer. By every other free moment, a writer. I’m a Missouri raised gal, but I currently live in North Carolina with my US Marine husband where I spend my days begging him for a cat. I survive off coffee, pizza, and sarcasm. When I’m not writing, you can find me binge-watching various TV shows, especially Supernatural and One Tree Hill. I like cold weather, buy more paperbacks than I’ll ever read, and I never say no to brownies.

Promo Tour ~ It Takes A Thief ~ by ~ Layla Wolfe

Title: It Takes a Thief
Series: The Bare Bones MC #7
Author: Layla Wolfe
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: June 26, 2017
Great outlaws lost their lives to Ford. Great ladies lost their hearts.

Ford Illuminati, Prez of the famed Bare Bones MC, is in the crosshairs of Noodlum, a whacked thug recently joined with the Cutlasses. When Ford’s company steals some highway workers of theirs, Noodlum lashes out with subterfuge, placing fake news stories about the club and stealing their identities to charge Cialis and penis weights.

But the clincher is when Noodlum targets Ford’s old lady, Madison. His twisted obsession with Madison puts Ford on the alert, and Santiago Slayer on his trail. But things haven’t been going well between Ford and Maddy lately. His two jobs—Prez of the MC and his construction company—have got him working more than double time. Neglected and feeling unloved, Maddy has a meltdown when a patient of hers dies. She needs to do something different–something fulfilling.

When she works at a clinic on the Indian Rez, a heartthrob doctor catches her eye. But he’s not the real menace. Noodlum has come unhinged, targeting the light of his life—Madison Illuminati. Ford is forced to play along with the whacko’s games, step by step. It will take the combined forces of his club and his company to emerge triumphant…to save his one true love and reclaim their marriage.

I continued, “It’s not even just the recent fake news story. Cecil came to tell me that someone got ahold of our corporate credit cards and is charging shit all over town.”

Everyone nodded and murmured. Sax was the first to speak up. “Maybe that’s why the bank texted me. They were curious why someone had charged thirty copies of World of Warcraft from Rwanda.”

“I got the same thing,” said Knoxie. “Someone was trying to rush order some penis weights from Sierra Leone.”

I pointed at Knoxie. “See? That’s the exact thing that not only tries to make us look like assmunchers, but rips us off into the fucking bargain. I had a charge for twelve hundred bucks for ten model Ford Torinos. The charge went through because of my name.”

Faux Pas, Duji, Speed and Gollywow nodded sagely. But Roman asked, “Your name? Because it was a toy model Ford?”

“A Torino,” explained Duji. “Ford was nicknamed Torino by, ah…”

“His father,” said Faux Pas, almost in a whisper.

The silence this time was uncomfortable, with everyone looking everywhere except at each other. Slushy tapped a pen on his desk and sucked on the inside of his mouth. Wolf broke the silence by going,

“What’s a penis weight exactly? Some kind of bondage thing?”

Everyone laughed with relief. Lytton, the resident bondage king, said, “Not at fucking all, man. Not that I know the details, but I believe it’s some kind of—”

“Penis enlargement device.” Knoxie was bold to say that, because it cast him into a questionable light. “I know, because I had to deal with the bank for an hour straightening it all out. It’s definitely someone trying to make us look like dingbats.”

“And steal our money at the same time,” I added. “Wolf, you’re in charge of shredding all the accounting and other paper at the Citadel. Don’t you have an industrial strength shredder in your parts shed?”

Wolf looked like he was watching a tennis match. A shady look if ever there was one. “Well, sure,” he said uncertainly. “I bag up most of it and this recycling company hauls it away after it’s shredded so no one can sit there putting the pieces together again.”

“But?”

“But, ah, see, we’ve started up this organic garden outside the Unexploded Ordnance shed.”

I wasn’t sure I heard correctly. “What?”

“The hippies always out there meditating by the vortex gave me the idea.”

“And me,” said Slushy. “I’m all about the organic.”

“Especially eggplant.” Duji kissed his fingers. “I make the finest moussaka around.”

“I thought you were Italian,” said Faux Pas.

I couldn’t fucking believe it. One, that they had an organic garden outside the Citadel. Two, that I hadn’t noticed it. I’d been so fucking busy lately, I rarely looked at, much less answered, my texts. My bank had probably texted about the strange charges, too. What else had they charged on my corporate card? A shipment of butterfly vibrators? “So what does this have to do with the shredded documents?”

“Well,” said Wolf, “the hippies gave me the idea to start a compost pile. It’s really awesome, actually! But you need a certain amount of greens, water, dirt, and paper. You need to get the balance just right. Lytton helped me with the science of it all, and—”

“You put our shredded documents into your fucking compost pile?”

“They get wet! And dirty! And bugs come to eat them, and—”

There was some rustling outside the closed office door. Wolf eagerly looked at the door, glad for the interruption. But I shot him a look that said “I’m not done with you yet.” I’d make him clean the bathrooms for another year, always the Prospect’s job. Wolf had done it for a year. Now he’d do it for another. I couldn’t believe these fucking guys. Even my old-timer brothers from the shorts pants days were acting like a bunch of hipster goofballs. Where did we live, Marin County? Sedona? They were more concerned with their intestinal flora than with the fact someone was obviously trying to push up on us.

At last, it was fucking Tobiah Weingarten in all his nerdy glory. He slammed shut the office door behind him in a rush, squeaking over in his tennies. He pivoted on one heel in the center of our chairs as though about to do a standup routine. In fact, he did grin under that eagle’s nose of his and point dazzlingly at Wolf. “Sorry I’m late. I ran into Tracy in town and we had a nice chat.”

The ire in Wolf’s face seemed to imbue the entire room. He’d been sitting backward in his chair, and now he half-rose, gripping the seat back, and bashed the chair angrily. “Where the fuck—”

See, they’d been having a rivalry over this chick for quite some time. Tracy wasn’t totally eye-banging, but those two nerds had it bad for her. First, she’d lived with Tobiah. Then she’d lived with Wolf. I guessed she was currently with Wolf—not sure, really. I knew I should take more interest in the ins and outs of my brothers’ true lives, but fuck it. I was a busy man.

Tobiah held out a calming hand. “Sorry to shit on your campfire, Nerdulent.” Everyone burst out into a hearty round of laughter, seeing as how Tobiah was way nerdier than Wolf. Wolf at least dressed the part of a brother at heart. Tobiah wore white belts, skinny velveteen jeans, and turtlenecks. “We just had coffee. Nice girl, though! Pretty green eyes—”

Before Wolf could rise like the Incredible Hulk, I put the kibosh on this whole affair. “Enough! Tobiah! Explain your findings. Who’s behind the fake news stories?”

“Well!” Tobiah was always glad for a chance to be the center of attention, and now he literally was. His X-Files belt buckle flashed in my face when he turned. “Turns out it’s some guy named Noodlum. I know, I know, not much to go on, is it? But I delved deeper into the mystery. Turns out the postings were coming from near the Discovery Channel Telescope—”

Lytton and Wolf gasped.

“—near Happy Jack.”

“My house!” cried Lytton.

“That’s what I thought, too. I thought oh great, someone’s making it look like we’re stabbing each other in the back to create dissention among our ranks. But no. Upon further investigation, the culprit was high up in the mountains, more toward Long Lake.”

Now everyone was confused. They all had that resting bitch face as they drew back and looked at each other suspiciously.

Could it be? The Cutlasses hadn’t caused trouble in quite a while. Seemed they’d burned out and faded into the rearview since my brother had taken out a few of them. Sure, we’d stolen their workers. But what jobs did they have going on, anyway? They hadn’t tried to jack a truck in months.

“Cutlasses,” a few men murmured.

I said, “But who’s this Noodlum asswipe? I know Doug Zelov, the Prez, as we all do. Is he their IT guy?”

Toby shrugged. “That’s where the trail went cold. But you can bet dollars to donuts it’s the Cutlasses behind it.”

“Muldoon,” mumbled Wolf, looking at his phone.

“What?” I said.

He looked at me. “Muldoon. That’s Noodlum spelled backward.”

“Muldoon!” cried Fox. “I knew a sociopath named Muldoon in my travels.” Fox was a former hit man for the Jones cartel. If there were sociopaths to be known, Fox was our man. “Damn, that guy was a few clowns short of a circus. He once left twenty legs as a warning for Ortelio Jones. Just the legs, all arranged in a neat row like can-can dancers. And yeah, they were all womens’ legs, all Mexicans, probably trafficked. There were rumors he was into toon porn because once, when we almost hit him, he had to leave so fast he left a full-on bunny suit behind.”

“That would be furries, not toon porn,” said Speed, ever knowledgeable. “They dress up in furry costumes and bump uglies in the night.”

“No, it was toon porn,” Fox said with authority. “We found a video showing that Family Guy’s wife getting pile-driven, the usual animé, and Judy Jetson giving George a skull job.”

Duji shook his head with wonder. “Kids these days.”

“He wasn’t stupid,” said Fox, “which made him more dangerous. He just had splinters in the windmills of his mind, if you know what I mean.”

I did. “You think he’s working for Zelov now? Why else would he be up there? That’s where their feeble shack of a clubhouse was, last I heard.”

“Hot Stuff. Tread lightly with this Noodlum,” said Slushy. “A pile of Mexican legs is a good sign that you don’t want to get all up in his shit.”

“They’re up in ours,” I said darkly to our lawyer.

Wolf exploded with a lip fart so resounding it made a few guys jump in their chairs. “Holy motherfuck! Ford! This guy has crossed the fucking line, man!” He stretched his arm out to hand me his phone. I whipped it from him and read:

Woman Wearing Too Much Makeup Mistaken as Clown, Attacked by Angry Mob.

Highlighted with a photo of my wife, Madison.

It was a photo taken from her hospital’s website, but she wasn’t wearing anything that would identify her as a nurse. She was just smiling from the shoulders on up, her little chipmunk features all shits and giggles, and she definitely didn’t have too much makeup. The article went on, and I read aloud.

“Madison Illuminati, the wife of Bare Bones MC Prez, Ford Illuminati, was taken into custody last night in Cottonwood when her makeup scared bystanders into thinking she was a menacing clown come to lure their children into the woods.”

That’s how far I got before I slammed Wolf’s phone into the wall, and my men erupted onto their feet.

Some punched walls, too. “Men, men!” shouted Slushy. “Calm the fuck down!”

Duji waved a finger in my face. “That’s the limit, Ford! That’s the fucking limit! These motherfuckers have pushed us over the edge!”

Sax shouted, “This is their first fucking inroad, and you know it won’t be their last!”

Faux Pas intoned between clenched teeth, “We need to have a sit-down with these dirtbags.”

Everyone was making too much noise for me to talk. I just closed my eyes and thought Yes. We’re having a face-to-face.

We were all going to the wall for each other. Someone was going to pay for this libel. God would do the accounting when it was over.

Moving back home to my parents’ cattle ranch in Texas was the last thing I thought I’d be doing.

But, here I stand … in front of my high school girlfriend. A beautiful, confident woman has replaced the young girl I once knew and loved. Hell. I’m still in love with her.

Yep. Paxton Monroe was my first love and the one girl in town who now hated my guts. So much so, Paxton swore her revenge on me if it took her until the day she died. The last words she spoke to me were a vow to cut my dick off and shove it down my throat.

The fight between my heart, my head, and last, but certainly not least, my dick starts tonight. Because all I can think about is how I want to be buried so deep inside Paxton she won’t remember how I broke her heart, or how I left her when she needed me the most.

But who will win? My heart is too broken to listen to my head. And my dick, yeah it’s not listening to anything or anyone. Not until it gets what it wants and what it wants is Paxton Monroe.

“Whatcha doing?”
I nearly jumped out of my skin as I spun around and clutched at my chest.
“Jesus, Amelia! Why would you sneak up on me like that?”
She tried to hide her smile and failed. Lifting her brows, she glanced past my shoulder. “Were you watching Steed and Chloe?”
My cheeks heated. “What? No! Are they here? I haven’t seen them. Why would you say that?”
When her eyes moved back to mine, I knew she saw right through my blunder of lies. “Uh-huh. I know I was little when you and Steed dated, so we really don’t know each other all that well.” She smiled. “But I can already tell you’re a terrible liar, Paxton.”
I dropped my head then peeked up at her. “I wasn’t spying.”
Amelia held up her hands. “I didn’t say you were.”
Chewing on my lip, I sighed. “Okay. I was spying. I’m lost, Amelia.”
With a soft sympathetic grin, she glanced at her brother. “So is he, Paxton. His eyes are so sad. Earlier this morning we all had breakfast together as a family and both Mom and I noticed it.”
“The family was all together?” I asked.
She nodded with a grin. “The boys have been working the ranch the last two days so they’re all staying at the house. It’s been nice having Steed home again. Dad’s thrilled he’s back and digging deeper into the business side of the ranch. The idea of having another son run day-to-day operations has him all kinds of happy.”
Guilt hit me square in the chest. It was my fault he left. I told him to leave.
He left his family and stayed away because of me.
“I’m so sorry he left town,” I said.
“Paxton, you didn’t keep him away all those years. That was his decision. A poor one, but his nonetheless.”
I shrugged. Turning, I glanced back at Steed and Chloe. “He’s such a good father.”
The sadness in my voice caused Amelia to put her hand on my shoulder and gave it a squeeze.

TBRreview

I love the Parker family!!! And little Chloe. She’s so stinking adorable!!

10 years ago, Steed and Paxton were destined to be together. They were going to graduate high school and head to college together and live happily ever after. Until events made that impossible and Paxton hated Steed and vowed to hurt him if she ever saw him again.

Fast forward 10 years and Steed has just moved home and Paxton still can’t stand him. How did their everlasting love end up not lasting?

This was a sweet book, funny at times, hot A LOT, sad at times and just an all-around good book. The Parker family siblings are so funny and even when they tease each other, they’re still there to have each others’ backs.

I can’t wait for the next one!

5 stars!

Cover Reveal ~ Misguided ~ by ~ Max Henry

Title: Misguided
Series: Fallen Aces MC Book 5
Author: Max Henry
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: July 18, 2017

Only by losing my freedom, did I realize I was never free at all.

My father, the president of the Fallen Aces MC, sent me away to save me from a cold-blooded fate handed down by a tyrannical drug lord. Now, over a year later, my brother has come to take me home.

Only it doesn’t feel like home anymore.

I’m lost, wandering familiar yet foreign halls as I try to work out what my purpose is in this club. What can I offer the people who sacrificed so much to save me? I need a guiding light, something to get me on the right path. Or someone.

Someone like him.

A cocky, playful ladies man, Dog is nothing like what I thought I’d ever need. But as he strips the colors from his back, and reveals the true brilliance of the ones below, I can’t help but fall in love with the overbearing yet guarded man.

He’s guaranteed to break my heart, yet here I stand with it in my hands, offering him all I have left.

All that I am.

Maybe I’m not supposed to survive after all?

“Thanks, Mel.”
She shrugs, slinging a clean pair of black denim jeans over her arm. “I wouldn’t have achieved anything by lowering myself to your level, would I?”
Ouch. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means,” she says slowly, turning to face me. “I could have gone downstairs, found some random guy to suck off, and tried to hurt you like you hurt me, but the truth is” —she sucks her lips to her teeth with a hiss— “I don’t think you would have cared.”
My nostrils flare, the look I give her so fucking pissed off that she frowns and places a foot to the side, ready to bolt.
“What?” She shrugs again, making me want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her until all the messed up shit in her head gets back to where it should be.
“Those lips of yours go anywhere near another man’s junk, I promise it won’t be pretty.”
I can’t even think straight when I look at her. All I see is the fuck-off eyes she’d be giving that asshole as she dropped to her knees. My fist curls, my forearm aching with the strain.
“My lips,” she snaps with a bit more sass than necessary, “can go wherever the fuck I please.” She frowns hard, doing that little head wiggle thing chicks do when they’re about to go off. “Why should the rules be different for me than they are for you?”
“What fuckin’ rules?” I ram my fist into the mattress to save from getting up and smashing it into the wall.
“You can suck some bitch downstairs, but I’m not allowed to—”
“Don’t fuckin’ say it again.” I hold a finger up, closing my eyes as I wince.
Her feet make soft padding noises as she hustles across the floor. Her breath is hot and minty over my face as she leans right in. I don’t dare open my eyes, don’t dare breathe her in too hard in case I snap.
“Suck. A. Dick,” she murmurs right in my face. “Choke on a cock. Let a man face-fu—”
My hand’s on her throat before I even fully open my eyes. “Don’t.”
She still glares at me; her fucking kissable lips an inch from mine. I screwed up, I get it, but it’s not as though I intended on hammering the fucking bitch after I was done. Shit, I don’t think I could have sported a fucking woody if I tried given how much I’d consumed.
There’s only one woman on my mind right now, and the feel of her pulse beneath my thumb tells me her heart races as hard as mine.

Max is the author of dark, and highly emotional romance. Her Butcher Boys series is centered around a group of ex-street kids who have teamed up with an indebted motorcycle club to take down a notorious drug lord. And her new series, the Fallen Aces MC, is a spin-off from this dark and dangerous world. Author: Carina Adams
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: July 26, 2017

The Bastards of Boston live in a world most don’t understand. They follow their own rules, only accountable to each other, the innocents they protect, and the people they couldn’t save.

As president of the Bastards MC, Robert Doyle is the man behind it all. It’s his responsibility to keep his club safe, to be the smartest man in the room, and be ten steps ahead of everyone. He’d give everything he had, and sell his soul to the devil, to protect the ones he loves.

Until Rocker comes face-to-face with the pain he thought he’d buried. Old wounds are ripped open. Revenge consumes him. Once again he’s the teenager desperate to avenge his daughter’s murder and nothing else matters.

He calls me his angel, but the halo I wear caught fire a long time ago. There is no line I won’t cross, no law I won’t break. I’ll do whatever it takes to save him. If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I’ll happily burn.

When past and present collide, we’re in for one hell of a bumpy ride.

I felt my eyes widen. In my mind she was still just a girl, short and straight, all gangly arms and awkward movements that come with being a young teen. Somewhere over the last few years, she’d grown up.

I hesitated for a brief moment, stunned. This woman was nothing but trouble; tall, athletic, and beautiful enough to make even me notice her. For a moment I stared into her eyes, completely blown away. If I hadn’t known better, I would have sworn there was relief in those depths. Something I’d thought I’d lost stirred in my gut.
“Don’t touch me!” She sneered, trying to get free as I caught her and gripped her shoulders tightly. When she couldn’t break the hold, she glanced over my shoulder, her panic clear. “Where’s Matty?”

“Not here.”
“Let go!” She shoved at me again. “I need Matt, not you.”
“You’re in my club, little girl.” I growled back, pushing back anything but the irritation that my stress free night had gone to shit so quickly. “If you didn’t want to see me, you should have stayed in that cushy little apartment I pay out the ass for.”

Blue eyes narrowed as she tipped her head back and looked at me. Seeing my shiner, she raised an eyebrow, her nose wrinkled in disgust. “Someone finally gave you the beating you deserved? Sorry I wasn’t here for that.”

The strong scent of alcohol on her breath made me clench my fists. She winced as my fingers dug into her flesh, and it took every ounce of self restraint I had to loosen my grip. I took a deep breath and tried to control my rage. “You’ve been drinking.” It wasn’t a question.
Her eyes narrowed in crystal clear hatred as she jerked her head back. “Go to hell.”

“Already been there, Brat. Fought my way out. I’m still here. Explain to me why you are.”
“I told Tonka Truck,” she sent Tank’s back a seething look, “I’m here for Matty. I meant it.” Her hands planted themselves on my chest. “Get the fuck away from me before I start to scream and these guys,” she leaned her head toward the table, “give you another black eye.”
I laughed humorlessly at that.

The stupid little girl was fucking clueless. She could scream all she wanted here and not one of the brothers us would step in to help her. She wasn’t at some college frat party where a good Samaritan was waiting to rescue the pretty damsel in distress. Tank and I were the closest things in this room, and if we were the ones causing the scene, everyone else would sit back, drink and watch.

“Let’s go!” I snapped.

Cris shook her head. “I’m not leaving. Not without…”
“Now!” I yelled, cutting off her words.
Her jaw set. “Fuck off. I’m not leaving.”
I’d had enough of her attitude and manipulation to last a lifetime. I wasn’t about to cause an even bigger scene with the drama queen in front of me, risk the chance that someone would figure out she was worth something. Her brother could deal with her shit. I was done.

If Matt had been here, I would have stepped aside and let him handle her. Since he wasn’t, she was my responsibility. Fucking bullshit best friend code. But, I knew he’d do it for me.
I did the only thing I could. I grabbed her, threw her over my shoulder, and strode out of the club.

When fists starting pounding into my lower back, and she started demanding I put her down, my hand itched with the need to spank the jean covered ass on my shoulder. As we made our way outside, I hoped the anger and hatred coursing through my veins was clear on my face. If any patched member stepped in, I’d have no place to argue – I wasn’t their equal yet, I was still a guest in their club.
A few brothers nodded my way, amusement clear, as I headed for the door, but no one tried to stop me. Thank Jesus. I wasn’t sure what I would have done if they had. Probably something dangerous and definitely something stupid.
Once the brat realized that she couldn’t fight her way down, she did the only thing an immature child like her would – she tried to pants me. I knew when she was quiet for a moment too long that she was up to something. I thought she was going to give it one final push and try to break free, but when her hands moved to my back pockets, and she gave the denim one solid yank, I almost laughed.
Instead, I yanked on my waistband, barely keeping it around my hips, and gave her thigh a warning squeeze with my free hand. The whole city could see my blue Fruit of the Loom’s, and I still wouldn’t put her down until I’d safely deposited her ass in my truck.

When she gave them another push, I snapped. “Cut the shit Cris.”

“Fuck off.”
Such a polite and sweet little girl my best friend’s baby sister was.

Release Blitz ~ Breathe In ~ by ~ Michelle Bellon

Breathe in, breathe out. This mantra gets Tessa Benson through the day.

The man she loves walks all over her, and she just wants to get by without her heart shattering to pieces. If she could find her voice, she’d scream.

Everything changes in one night, when she’s snatched from the streets and tied to a bed, a camera set up to capture her dying moment. And the person who paid to watch her die…is still out there somewhere.

Tessa prowls dark neighborhoods in a quest for justice, but she doesn’t find the killer. Not until they strike again…in the place Tessa is least expecting, and where it hurts worst.

Standing closer than I want to be, I can’t stop my muscles from trembling. He sneers down at me. His teeth are crooked. His jaw is wide. His skin is covered in acne, and I’m sure he takes steroids on a regular basis to gain his bulk. His scent is heavy with sweat. It mixes inextricably with the smell of frying pork.

He holds a finger in front of his face in warning. “Do not play with me, little girl.” He gives the rope another jerk. “Do you understand me?”

“Y-y-yes,” I whimper.

“Good. Now let me explain a few things. You see that camera over there?”
When I don’t take my gaze from his to look toward the camera, he moves faster than I can react and clutches my chin in his large hand, his thumb and forefinger digging into the flesh of my jaw. My lips pucker out. He jerks my head to the right so that I’m facing the camera. He points to it with his other hand. “There. Do you see it now?”

Face still in his grasp, I nod adamantly to show I’m listening now. This man is frightening beyond measure.

His thumb and fingers squeeze harder. “Good. That camera will watch you day and night. You hear me?”

I nod, unable to suppress the incessant whimpering that bubbles from my core.

“You will not go near it. You will do as you’re told. Or I will hurt you. You got it?”

I nod.

He releases my chin and slaps me across the face. My head snaps hard to the left and my right cheek flashes hot where his palm connected. Instant tears stream down my face. He grabs my chin again and hauls me upright.

“Answer me when I ask you a question. Understand?”
“Yes, yes.”
“You and that camera right there are going to make me a lot of money. Do you understand?”
I don’t understand at all. I’m afraid to. “Yes.” I nod over and over again.

“Yes.”

“Good. Now sit your ass down.”

Before I can do as I’m told, he gives me a shove. I topple onto the bed. Unable to catch myself with my hands behind my back, I fall to my side, then scramble to sit upright.

He gives me a look of disgust before walking out the door and slamming it behind him.
Defeated and scared beyond words, I’m paralyzed. I need to escape, but I fear this man’s wrath if he catches me. I bite my lip and earnestly try to fight back the tears. But they are relentless and gush forth anyway. I give in and let them come. Racking sobs engulf my body. I look toward the camera, no longer innocuous. It stares at me menacingly, my only witness.

What will it see?
