BOOK BLURB

Someone should have warned me about falling in love with my best friend.

Carolina

Little did I know when Rex came to my locker attempting to bribe me, that heโ€™d turn into my everything.

Weโ€™d become best friends. Iโ€™d steal his heart. Heโ€™d steal mine.

Nothing has changed in the years of our friendship.

Not our connection, not our feelings, or that we still hold each otherโ€™s hearts.

But his heart isnโ€™t the only thing Iโ€™ve kept.

The secret Iโ€™m hiding could shatter the only man Iโ€™ve ever loved.

Rex

Iโ€™ve loved Carolina since the day she called my bluff.

Our friendship always came first.

She believed in me when no one else did.

I tucked away my feelings because I couldnโ€™t survive a life without her.

We crossed the line once, and I swore itโ€™d never happen again.

As time passes, the harder it becomes to live up to that promise.

Until finally, thereโ€™s no holding back.

EXCERPT

Rex shifts the car into park and steals my attention from the home when he clears his throat. โ€œThat sure was a fun ride. Iโ€™ve never been checked out by a preacherโ€™s daughter before.โ€

My eyes widen.

Oh dear God.

Was I that obvious?

โ€œThatโ€™s it. Take me home,โ€ I demand. โ€œI donโ€™t check out guys. I was simply observing the guy Iโ€™m going to be stuck with for the next few hours.โ€

โ€œToo late. We have a paper to write, Lina babe.โ€

He kills the engine to the car, circles it, and opens my door as Iโ€™m debating my next move.

Go in or leave.

I smack away his waiting hand, and he moves out of the way. With a scoff, I follow him into the house. As soon as we make it through the front door, he captures my hand in his, and I nearly fall on my face when he starts pulling me up the stairs.

โ€œMy bedroom is up here,โ€ he says.

I jerk back, causing him to stop. โ€œIโ€™m not going into your bedroom.โ€

He glances back at me, blinking. โ€œYes, you are.โ€

โ€œNo, Iโ€™mโ€”โ€

Iโ€™m cut off when he grabs my hand again, tightening his grip, and stupidly, I donโ€™t fight him this time. He steers us down a long hallway and into a bedroom.

Itโ€™s a spacious room, larger than my parentsโ€™ master, and surprisingly clean. Three of the walls are painted a dark red, and the other is black. Against the black wall is a sleek metal bed with a black comforter on top. Itโ€™s different than any guyโ€™s room Iโ€™ve seen before.

Granted, I normally donโ€™t hang out in guysโ€™ bedrooms.

Thereโ€™s a mini fridge in the corner, a massive desk with three monitors on top, and a TV above a black console. A collection of gaming devices and games clutters the stand.

I lose his hold when he shuts the door behind us.

โ€œSeriously?โ€ I snap, crossing my arms. โ€œYou have no boundaries.โ€

He grins, showing off his bright white teeth. โ€œMy mom said that can be a great trait in life.โ€

โ€œFor who? Serial killers?โ€

โ€œFor guys asking girls to do their homework.โ€

He walks around me to the mini fridge, opens it, and peeks up at me. โ€œWhatโ€™s your drink of choice, Lina? Water? Pepsi? Tequila?โ€

I roll my eyes, pushing my black-rimmed glasses up my nose. โ€œYou donโ€™t have tequila in there.โ€ This calling-his-bluff game is fun.

โ€œI beg to differ.โ€ He clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth. โ€œItโ€™s in a Gatorade bottle, tucked into the very back so no one sees it.โ€

Yeah, right.

Today, Iโ€™m feeling gutsy.

โ€œGive me a tequila shot then.โ€

He squints in my direction. โ€œYouโ€™re fucking with me.โ€

I shake my head. โ€œIโ€™ll need it to get through an afternoon of hanging out with you.โ€

He grins, pushing his arm into the fridge, and pulls out a bottle.

Maybe calling his bluff wasnโ€™t the smartest idea.

Weโ€™re not at school where he can be expelled for doing something like this.

Weโ€™re in his bedroom.

I gulp when I see the bottle, focusing on the amber-tinted liquid inside thatโ€™s most definitely not Gatorade.

Way to call his bluff, Carolina.

Now, heโ€™s calling yours.

Time to gear up and taste tequila for the first time.

The room is quiet as he stands. His eyes are fastened on me while he slowly unscrews the orange cap and holds the bottle out to me.

Iโ€™ll be damned if I let him win this โ€ฆ game? Whatever it is.

Nausea cartwheels in my stomach, and I havenโ€™t even taken a drink. Lord knows how itโ€™ll feel after I do. I inhale a deep, determined breath.

I got this.

Iโ€™ve never drunk tequila, but Iโ€™ve had wine.

It canโ€™t be that different, right?

Deciding itโ€™s done doing gymnastics, my stomach tightens, as if itโ€™s preparing itself, when I snatch the bottle from him. I grip it and drag it to my lips. Right before I do anything drastic, my back stiffens, and I frown at the same time.

โ€œHow many people have taken a drink from this bottle?โ€ I question. โ€œIโ€™m not about to contract some STD.โ€

He chuckles, signaling to the bottle. โ€œThe only person whoโ€™s drunk from that bottle is me.โ€ He pauses, snaps his fingers, and points at me. โ€œAnd you, in a minute.โ€

I narrow my eyes at him. โ€œYou better not be lying.โ€

His hands go to his chest, feigning offense. โ€œLina, my sweet Lina, Iโ€™m heartbroken you donโ€™t trust me.โ€

I gulp again.

Here goes nothing.

I can do this.

Before I chicken out, I take a quick swig of the tequila. My eyes slam shut, blocking me from witnessing his reaction, and my teeth clench as I swallow down the most disgusting thing Iโ€™ve ever tasted. Thereโ€™s no stopping my body from shuddering. I hold in a deep breath out of fear of puking it up.

When I open my eyes, I immediately roll them.

A huge grin is spread across Rexโ€™s shocked face.

He whistles and leans back on his heels. โ€œDamn, Lina. Either you have a secret wild side, which Iโ€™d fucking love, or Iโ€™m bringing it out of you, which Iโ€™d also fucking love.โ€

I shrug. โ€œYouโ€™ll never know.โ€

I inhale a deep breath, dragging up as much nerve as I can, and take another sip to prove myself. My throat burns as if it were on fire, and I smile with pride as soon as I swallow it down.

โ€œItโ€™s your turn, Needle Dick.โ€ I extend the bottle back to him.

โ€œLook at me, corrupting you.โ€ He grabs it, cheers me, and takes a gulp. โ€œI canโ€™t wait to do it more.โ€

Little do I know, walking into Rexโ€™s bedroom will change everything.

Rex Lane will take over my life.

Heโ€™ll steal my heart.

Iโ€™ll steal his.

Only we wonโ€™t know what to do with what weโ€™ve taken.
