No take-backs.

That was the motto that Drew lived by in all things, including his love life.

He’s a player, pure and simple.

He’s learned the hard way that women aren’t all hearts and flowers. Sometimes their sexy bodies and beautiful faces are just a pretty shield to hide the crazy, and he’s so freakin’ over crazy.

Been there, done that. He has the divorce papers to prove it.

Karma hits like a bitch.

Aspen needs a break. A long one that doesn’t include anything with a Y chromosome. Not even one as tempting as her new neighbor who just moved in across the street. Men are trouble with a capital freakin’ T, and she has the ankle monitor to prove it.

The last man she gave her heart to was a police officer. A man whose life was dedicated to protection, and he was supposed to protect her heart—not break it.

She decides right then and there that she’s done with being the better person.

Everything happens for a reason.

A rash decision—undoubtedly regrettable, undeniably unforgettable. In the heat of the moment, Aspen’s actions with a tire iron and her ex-boyfriend’s brand new SUV land him in the ER getting stitches and have her seeing the inside of a jail cell for the first time.

It’s just her luck that the whole town is there to witness the result of her poor decision, including her police officer brother and the neighbor that already made it more than clear she was more trouble than she was worth.

House arrest never looked so good.

Hide your crazy.

Drew enjoyed the show, though. For the first time in a year, he’s thinking about his life, and how it would be a lot more enjoyable with a woman like Aspen at his side.

Maybe crazy isn’t so bad after all.

I slammed my fingers down on the keyboard, insanely annoyed that I now had to tell how fun the product was, despite the fact that the person I’d had the fun with was a douche bag.

A knock sounded at my door and I turned to glare at it.

“Who is it?” I yelled.

“You know damn well who it is. It’s the same person that’s been knocking at your door for the last twelve hours,” Drew growled.

I shrugged.

“Go away,” I ordered him.

I could hear him sigh through the door.

“In my eyes, the marriage Constance and I had was over,” he started.

I picked up the nearest thing to me, which happened to be a half finished water bottle, and then launched it at the door.

“Go away!”

He left, but not without one last parting comment.

“I still have a few things left in that box that I want to try on you. When you’re ready, let me know.”

I glared at the box he’d just spoken about, and went back to my review.
If you’re looking for a fun, awesome thing to do with your significant other, this is the thing for you. It offers many benefits; but most importantly, it gives you time with your significant other. And, might I add, it’s totally fucking worth it. I’ve used it three times in the last two days. It’s like he’s here.

On a side note, the vibrator is not very proficient. It offers about two hours of battery life before they need replaced.

Not that I used it for two hours or anything.

Oh, who am I kidding?

I would’ve used it longer if I hadn’t run out of batteries.

review
I love the guys and dolls of Kilgore Fire! They’re so fun and a great extended family. And Aspen is so funny. Her situation stinks but she tries to make the best of it and try to entertain herself while under house arrest.

Drew was just so into Aspen, almost from the beginning. He was helping her with the things she couldn’t do because of her limitations and Drew took it upon himself to help her or guilt her brother into helping her when Drew couldn’t.

I’m wondering whose stories is next. And if PD will ever see Naomi or if he’ll be blind only to whomever broke his heart.

5 stars!

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

Trent Carrington.

Trent Mr. Perfect-Has-Everyone-Fooled Carrington.

He’s the star quarterback, university scholar, and happens to be the sexiest man I’ve ever seen. He shines at any angle, and especially under the Saturday night stadium lights where I watch him from the sidelines. But I know the real him, the one who broke my heart and pretended I didn’t exist for the past two years.

I’m the third-string kicker, the only woman on the team and nothing better than a mascot. Until I’m not. Until I get my chance to earn a full scholarship and join the team as first-string. The only way I’ll make the cut is to accept help from the one man I swore to never trust again. The problem is, with each stolen glance and lingering touch, I begin to realizing that trusting Trent isn’t the problem. It’s that I can’t trust myself when I’m around him.

This is a full-length, standalone American football romance novel with hot guys in tight pants who really know how to handle their balls.

AP new - excerpt.jpg

“Cordy?”

I turned over and buried my head under a pillow.

Deep laughter and his voice again. “Cordy? We’re going to miss practice.”

Practice? Something was off. My dorm room bed didn’t have enough space for me to roll over and stretch out. I pulled my head from beneath the pillow and blinked against the sun streaming into the room. Not my room.

“Shit!” I clutched the blanket to me and blinked the sleep away.

Trent stood at the foot of the bed, his hair wet as if freshly showered. And, sweet baby Jesus, he wasn’t wearing a shirt. Dark hair dusted his broad chest, ran down the center of his hard abs, and disappeared into his athletic shorts.

I swallowed hard.

“Want me to take you back to your dorm so you can get ready?”

“I, uh.” I looked around at the room—dark wood floors, high ceilings, and a wall of windows looking out onto the city park. Elegant and understated, it was easily the nicest bedroom I’d ever been in. I still wore the sweater dress, but my boots were sitting by the door, and my belt was draped over a dresser. “How did I get here?”

“You were out by the time we got back. I figured it would be easier if you slept here.”

I glanced to the other side of the bed. It was still made.

He followed my gaze. “I slept in the guest room next door.”

“Oh.” Was that disappointment in my voice?

He walked around and sat next to me, his golden skin and light eyes making heat swirl in my stomach. “I called the doctor first thing. Your dad is doing better and is set to be released this afternoon. He’ll be transported straight to the rehab. It’s all taken care of.”

“Thank you.”

He took my hand. “You’re welcome.” He stared down at me for a few beats, and something in his look had my skin heating. His gaze darted to my lips, and he tensed. The longer he looked, the more it seemed as if my lungs couldn’t get enough air. But he pulled his hand away and stood. “I, um, I’ve already set out some breakfast we can grab and go.” He walked into a large closet next to what looked like an en suite bathroom. He snagged a team t-shirt and pulled it over his head as he walked out of the bedroom. “I’ll wait in the living room.”

All the heat he’d stoked inside me dissipated and left me feeling on edge.

I rose and took a tour of his marble bathroom with clear glass shower and soaking tub, then walked out the door and into the sunny living room. He leaned on the granite bar in the kitchen. A bagel, already slathered with cream cheese, sat at the ready along with a travel cup of orange juice.

“You can eat on the way.” He finished his coffee and placed the cup in the sink.

I snagged the food and the juice. “I love bagels.”

“Yeah?” He dropped his gaze.

I took a big bite as I followed him to his front door. “And this is my favorite flavor of cream cheese.”

“Good to know.” He walked around the kitchen island and toward the front door.

I took in his spacious apartment. The living room was full of leather furniture, a big screen TV, and a plush rug that I wanted to run my hand across.

He opened the door and led me out, then closed it behind him and locked it. We rode the elevator down to his car, and the drive to my dorm was less than ten minutes. I ate my bagel and downed the last of my juice as he parked.

“I’ll wait here for you and drive you to practice. It’s faster that way.”

I opened the door, a blast of frigid air whipping into the warm car, then turned to him. “Come on up. I don’t mind.”

The corner of his mouth twitched in a smile, and he killed the engine. “Sure.”

Brandy waved us through and gave Trent a wink. I pretended I didn’t see it and climbed the two flights of stairs to my floor. Trent walked behind me, his presence making my skin warm and my mind wander. I fumbled with the keys, but managed to make it into my room without dropping them.

Trent followed and closed the door behind him. Ellie was out, but had left a half-eaten piece of peanut butter toast on her bed, crumbs and all.

I walked to my closet and picked out a t-shirt, athletic pants, and fresh underwear. Ellie’s dress had served me well over the last day and a half, but I was ready to be rid of it.

“Just make yourself at home.” I turned as Trent sat at the foot of my bed. He watched me, never taking his eyes from me as I strode to the bathroom. “I’ll shower and dress right quick.”

“I’ll be here. We’re making good time. Practice doesn’t start for another forty-five minutes.” He lay back and tucked his hands under his head, his broad back taking up almost all my double bed.

A shock of need shot through my pussy, and I scissored my legs to fight the sensation. He followed the movement and licked his lips.

“I, um, shower, yeah.” I hurried into the bathroom and closed the door behind me.

“What are you doing?” I whispered to myself, though the scolding did nothing to chill my need for Trent. He’d looked like a powerful cat lounging on my bed.

After peeling off the dress, I took a short shower to wash off the stress of the past few days. Halfway through, my fingers dipped to my pussy as I thought of Trent laid out on my bed. God, why did he have to be so gorgeous? I stroked myself a few times before forcing my fingers to stop. He might hear, and I couldn’t bear the thought of him busting me touching myself in the shower.

I dried off, put on fresh clothes, and wrapped my towel around my wet hair. When I opened the door, he was in the same position, but his eyes were trained on me.

“Better?” He let his gaze travel the length of my body.

“Much. Thanks.” My nipples tingled and hardened, and I crossed my arms over my chest to hide it. “I just need to get some socks.”

I walked past Trent to my bedside table and opened the bottom drawer. He shifted on the bed, and when I turned around, he was sitting closer to me.

My heart raced at his nearness, but I tried to play it off by sitting next to him and pulling on my socks. I could sense how focused he was on me, and the knowledge sent a tingle of electricity over my skin. I finished and pulled the towel from my hair.

“I think I’m ready.” I met his eyes, our arms lightly touching as we sat beside each other.

“Are you?” He leaned in and kissed me.

ROMANIAN MOB CHRONICLES BOX SET BOOKS 1-3

When a mobster decides he wants you, you’d better be ready…

For his rough demands.

His dark passion.

And possessiveness that accepts no compromise…

KEEP

HER:

I thought the only thing I feared was living another day in the hell my life had become. But when I looked at his hulking, tattooed body, the icy brutality in his eyes, I realized I was wrong.

HIM:

Familie. My clan.

I’d fight for it, kill for it, die for it. It’s all that matters to me. But her innocence, only barely hidden by thick layers of makeup, the curves that her tight dress can’t hide, calls to me.

So I’ve decided to keep her.

No matter how deadly the consequences.

FALL

HER:

When my best friend fell in love with a mobster, I thought she’d lost her mind. Until I met his brother…

HIM:

Love is a lie, a fairy tale.

In my world, all that matters is staying alive, protecting my clan. There’s no room for normal people. No room for people like her. Especially people like her. She’s pushy, nosy, talks way too much, but I can’t make myself stay away.

But I have to. Because if I don’t, it might kill both of us.

AVENGE

HER:

I’ve infiltrated the Romanian mob.

It’s dangerous, insane, but it’s the only way to get the justice I deserve, the vengeance I’ve dedicated my life to. So I’ve wormed my way in, gotten close enough to strike. Everything is going according to plan.

Except him…

HIM:

I don’t trust her.

She puts on a good face, playing the sweet, kindly nurse.

I’m not convinced.

But not trusting her hasn’t stopped me from wanting her.

Because I do want her.

Badly.

Badly enough to ignore the voice in my head that screams at me to stay away.

Badly enough that I’ll put my honor, my clan, and her life at risk.

And my gaze clashed with a brooding blue one, one I recognized instantly as Sorin’s teasing anger.

My fear turned to rage in an instant, and I pushed at him, pushed again when he lifted a corner of his mouth and laughed.

“Did I scare you, Esther?” he said, his rich, deep voice rolling through the room.

I pushed him again, halfway considered slugging him, but I half worried that hitting the solid wall of his chest would just hurt my hand.

He leaned against the door, smirking, his hand against my waist hot and heavy and the other still holding my wrist. “So quiet,” he said.

I exhaled, swallowed and then swallowed again, trying to calm my pounding heart before I finally was able to speak. “Dammit, Sorin! What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Vasile said you’d just left. I thought I’d make sure you got home,” he said, still smiling, something I’d seen more of in these last thirty seconds than I had during the months I’d known him. For a fleeting moment, I wondered if seeing me was the reason why, but I quickly pushed that aside.

I glared at him, tried to pull my hand away, but he didn’t release me.

“Come on, Esther, don’t be a bad sport,” he said, his voice dropping lower.

“Ugh!” I said. I clenched my fists and stomped, unable to form words, which only made him laugh harder.

I stomped again, not quite sure what to say, and not quite sure that I had the ability to say it.

As I did, he watched me, and I was suddenly aware of his hand tightening against my waist, the scant inches that separated our bodies, noticed the way his gaze dropped to my breasts before lifting to my eyes.

That heated look was just the spur I needed.

“Why are you here, Sorin?” I whispered.

Instead of responding he pushed away from the door, moving fast until I was pressed against the wall, Sorin looming over me. I had to crane my neck to see his face, the dark obscuring his features. It was unnerving, Sorin’s hands on me, his body nearly touching mine but his face unseen. I’d been this close to him before, that first day when he had tried to keep me out, but this felt different, more intimate, especially the way he stared down at me, imposing body over mine, face in shadow.

“What are we going to do?” he asked.

I scoffed. “What are you talking about? And why are you here?” I repeated.

Even though I could hardly see his eyes, I turned away, unable to withstand the intensity that I felt in his gaze.

“Look at me, Esther,” he said as he leaned forward, his voice soft and demanding. Undeniable.

I lifted my gaze to his again, saw the heat in it.

“I asked you a question. What are we going to do?”

“D-do?” I stopped, swallowed hard. “Do about what?”

“That’s disappointing,” he said, narrowing his eyes.

“What?”

“You’re playing coy. You didn’t strike me as the type.”

“Sorin, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I said, impressed when I managed to sound believable because it was a big fat lie. Even before my mind had processed that it was Sorin who’d held me, my body had responded, the gathering dampness between my thighs testament to the fact.

“So you don’t feel it, Esther?”

“Feel what?” I asked, but in reality I knew exactly what he was talking about, and I most certainly felt it.

Felt it in every inch of my body, which practically strained toward him, begging for his touch, felt in it in the butterflies that flitted around my stomach, in the pulse that beat in my chest. But what I didn’t feel was fear. Not anymore.

“You’re a big part of my niece’s life, very important to my sister…”

“She’s not your sister,” I said, voice soft, almost timid.

“Close enough. We’re going to be spending time together, so we need to handle this,” he whispered as he leaned even closer, his breath fanning against my face, his lips centimeters from mine.

“How would you suggest we do that?” I said.

“I think I have an idea.”

Again moving with lightning speed, he turned me so my face was pressed against the wall, his body against mine. Even through the layers of our clothes, I felt the heat of his body, the hardness of his chest, his solid, heavy thighs curved against mine, his hardness against my ass. I almost purred with pleasure, and just barely kept myself from pressing against him harder.

He released his hold on my wrist, and without thought, I lifted my hand to the wall, my fingers curving as I tried to seek purchase. With the hand still on my hip, he pulled me back toward him, his cock grinding against me, his breath on my neck, raising goose bumps across my skin.

“Is this your idea?” I choked out.

“Part of it,” he said.

Then he trailed his fingers across my hip and up to my waistband, the first touch of his rough fingertips against my skin making me exhale sharply. He stayed there for a moment, his thumb teasing my skin, and then he put his other hand on my waist, fingers meeting in the middle of my stomach, hot hands against me making me shiver.

“This will help,” he said as he casually popped open my pants and slid down the zipper.

Who doesn’t love a good mob series??  I know I do!  I was so excited to read this box set that gives you a glimpse into each of these strong males and the women they love.  Each man similar but very different in their personalities and the way they love the women they love.

I couldn’t decide which was my favorite couple but I think Sorin and Esther were my favorite.  They were so antagonistic and elementary school-age ish to each other and their attraction.  It was fun to read their spats and then how they would make up.

This was a great box set with great couples!

Neesy is quite the klutz but in a funny way. She always has to tell people “I’m okay” after one of her accidents. Adrian’s hardened heart and self-imposed guilt is no match for Neesy’s selflessly loving and caring nature.

Series: Cerberus MC #3
Author: Marie James
Genre: Contemporary Romance/MC
Release Date: August 3, 2016

Blurb

Morrison “Shadow” Griggs, VP of the Cerberus MC, is a force to be reckoned with. Women fall at his feet, willing to do almost anything for a night with him.

Misty Bowen is the exception. She’s young and impressionable, but with her religious upbringing, she’s able to resist Shadow’s advances… for a while at least.

Never one to look back on past conquests, Shadow is surprised that he’s intrigued by Misty, which only grows more when she seems to be done with him without a word.

Being ghosted by a twenty-one-year-old is not the norm where he’s concerned, and the rejection doesn’t sit right with him.

Life goes on, however, until Misty shows up on the doorstep of the Cerberus MC clubhouse with a surprise that rocks his entire world off of its axis.

With only the clothes on her back and the consequences of her lies and deceit, Misty needs help now more than she ever has. Alone in the world and desperate for help, she turns to the one man she thought she’d never see again.

Shadow would never turn his back on a woman in need, but his inability to forgive has always been his main character flaw. Unintended circumstances have cast Misty into his life, but will he have the ability to keep his distance when her situation necessitates a closeness he’s never dreamed of having with a woman?

EXCERPT

“Fancy seeing you here, Darlin’,” I whisper into the neck of the familiar female.I see her smile, turning her head slightly toward mine.

“Shadow,” she says softly as if she’s seen me prior to now and was waiting for me to come to her.

“Let’s dance,” I say grabbing her hand and walking her out to the small dance floor.

I met Misty Bowen months ago when several of the Cerberus MC members traveled to Denver with Kincaid, our president, to help find his cousin’s abducted girlfriend. She was working in the front office of the school Josie worked at and was abducted from. Being there was routine for me, part of my job was to canvas the area and see if anyone had seen anything unusual leading up to the kidnapping.

What wasn’t routine was my heart skipping a beat and my cock thickening in my jeans at the sight of the young, dark-haired beauty answering calls at the front desk of the elementary school. Not one to deny myself, I pursued her relentlessly in my down time in Denver, finally catching her a few days before the mission ended in finding Josie alive, tied up in a closet in a meth den. It was actually Misty who called and gave me the heads up that a little girl came and reported her parents for keeping a woman tied up in their house.

She was the consummate, attentive lover, keen on any suggestion I made. We’re back in Denver for Josie and Kaleb’s wedding. I’m slow dancing with the girl I never thought I’d see again. To be honest, I’m an asshole, and I haven’t given her much thought since the last time I climbed out of the hotel bed, leaving her asleep without so much as a kiss on the cheek.

Seeing her now with her dark hair pulled up high on her head, leaves me with a little bit of regret, wondering if I shouldn’t have handled things differently. She’s gorgeous in her conservative, black dress as we sway to the music. I came to this wedding with every intention of finding a chick to take back to my room, but I also never considered that Misty would be here. It’s perfect actually because I know she’ll be willing to accompany me without much of a fight. This gives me more time with her body than if I had to woo some other chick tonight.

“I guess I should have expected you to be here,” I say into her hair as I lead her around the dance floor. “I know you and Josie are friends.”

She nods. “I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I didn’t think the rescuing bikers would come back though.”

“We always show up for family,” I say in explanation.

The song fades from one song to another more upbeat song, one I wouldn’t be caught dead dancing to. “I’m gonna grab drink, Darlin’. I know you’re not old enough, but you want a water? Coke maybe?”

She grins mischievously. “I’ll have a martini.” I cock an eyebrow at her. “I turned twenty-one last month.”

“Martini it is,” I say wrapping my arm around her waist as we make our way to the bar.

We drink. We dance. We stumble to my room in the hotel a few hours later.

Through the haze of alcohol, I clumsily remove her clothes, licking, kissing, and sucking every inch of her body that comes close to my mouth. She does the same.

She was shy and reserved the first time I managed to get her under me, but in a matter of days I managed to turn her into the minx she is now pawing at my clothes.

“Fuck,” I groan when she bites my nipple just a little too hard.

I pick her up and toss her on the bed, undressing myself to avoid further injury to either one of us. I grab the condom from my wallet before shucking off my slacks. I’m sure I pop a button off my white shirt in my haste to get it off my body.

I stare over at her, legs spread wide, hands groping at her full breasts.

“Damn, Darlin’,” I say walking to the bed and tearing at the condom wrapper with my teeth. “Don’t get started without me.”

I crawl between her legs. The shift in the mattress causes me to lose my balance. I fall to my side, but right myself quickly. I pick up the rubber that bounced out of my hand and begin rolling it down my throbbing cock, watching Misty’s face. Her eyes are hooded, and looking down to the apex of her thighs I can see her arousal glistening in the low light of the room.

“Goddamn it,” I spit when the thin latex tears in my fingers.

“What’s wrong?” she purrs.

I rip the ruined condom off my cock and sit back on my heels, hands on my thighs. “That was my only fucking condom.”

She shakes her head. “I’m on the pill,” she pants reaching for my dick, stroking it in long firm pulls. “I haven’t been with anyone since you.”

I pull her hand off me, but rather than tell her that’s not going to happen, the bourbon changes my mind. I spread her legs and line my bare cock against her entrance.

“Yes,” she begs.

I thrust into her in one stroke, loving the way she encapsulates me. Hot, tight, perfect pussy quivers along my length as I lean over her. Slanting my mouth slightly, I kiss her sloppily. She doesn’t seem to mind and gives just as good as she gets.

I feel her legs wrap around my hips, and I plunge even deeper. I can feel her breasts shifting and moving from the pounding, relentless drives of my hips.

Her whimper is the first sign of her impending orgasm, so I grind my hips, rotating my body against her clit. Nails dig deep into my back as she clenches around me. I swallow her cries of ecstasy and give her mine as I explode inside of her.

“Fuck, Misty.” I kiss her again. “This pussy is going to be the death of me.”

She nips at my chin as I pull out of her and flop on my back. My breathing is erratic, and I hate the way the cold air hits my dick so soon after leaving the warmth of her body. I hear my cell phone chime a text. Looking at the bedside table, I see that it’s after two in the morning. Only important shit hits my phone this late.

I reach into the pocket of my slacks and pull my phone out.

Kincaid: Wrench is in town. Get your ass over here.

Kincaid and Emmalyn are staying at Kaleb and Josie’s tonight, and he has a pretty good sixth sense about shit like this, so I know he’s not just being overprotective over his girl.

I climb out of the bed and begin pulling my clothes back on. Once dressed, I lean over Misty who still has a sated smile on her face.

“I have to go, Darlin’.”

Her smile falters slightly before she tugs her lips back up. I lean in and take her dark nipple into my mouth, sucking it to a hardened peak. I mentioned I’m an asshole right? I need to make sure that she’s down to meet up again should I find my way back to Denver anytime soon.

I kiss her long and hard before walking out of the room to make sure my club president and his woman are safe.

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again; I love the Cerberus MC stories!

Shadow meets up with Misty again, who gave the Club a tip about Josie. And he’s still just as hot for her as he was the first time. Except there’s some unexpected consequences this time around.

Misty is in a strict religious household that doesn’t support her choices. So she goes about taking care of herself the best that she can. And ends up having to go to Shadow and the clubhouse eventually to help her out.

That’s all I’m saying. It’s a fascinating ride with tons of twists and surprises!

And I’m hoping Dom’s story is next! 😉

Excerpt #1

I couldn’t make myself comfortable. As I continued to shrug, he clasped my shoulders tighter. If I leaned against my car, his hips would press against me. I sagged in defeat and avoided direct contact with his eyes. This was worse than him thinking we could be friends.

“Since you’re big, bad boss of this whole operation, what’s going on with the bachelor party?” The man wriggled his eyebrows at me when I looked up. It was such a laughable action.

Levi was the ultimate bachelor…and rebel. He kept his hair long, rarely shaved, and often dressed in button up shirts with the first three buttons undone and sleeves rolled up, showing off his constant tan. He exuded bad-to-the-bone. And he loved it.

No doubt he had particular ideas on what Jake’s bachelor party should be like. I had more than enough of a fight to deal with, why would I add a few more in the way of silicon-filled strippers?

“What bachelor party? I’m not in charge of that. I’ve never planned one, and don’t intend to start. It’s your job as the best man to figure it out.” I poked my finger at his chest. Hard, warm chest, with a steady fluttering from his heart.

“Is it?” He took my hand in his and flattened my palm on his chest, halting my ministrations.  I stared at my fingertips touching his exposed skin.  “Maybe you and I can get together soon, just us, and you can give me ideas.”  A number of salacious scenes flashed in my mind.  I gulped, realizing my mistake, but the heat had ebbed up my neck and cheeks.

Drawing back my hand, I replied, “If you need help, you can call Chase.” I spun around to the back of my car, reached in and took out a card from my purse, ignoring the blush on my cheeks and hoping he would, too. The hand that was squeezing my shoulder smoothed its way down to the small of my back when I faced him again. I tried not to focus on the sudden, pleasant warmth in my belly.  This was Levi, Casanova of the Bay area…and beyond!

He took the proffered card. “She’s the expert on all things…naughty.” Chase would kill me if she found out I gave him her number. “I have to go.”

He removed his hand from my back and held my door open for me. As I settled in my seat, he stuck his head in my car and surprised me with a swift kiss on my cheek, rendering me speechless with how pleasant it felt. Levi had never been this close to me before.  I’d never allowed it.

After shutting the door closed for me, he leaned his arms over the opened window and cocked his head to one side.  Playfulness washed over his face. “Veronica, you may not like me, but whether you like it or not, I will be around whenever Jake asks me to be there. So you’ll have to get used to us being together…a lot.” It felt like he was trying to say more, but I simply nodded my head, and started the car.  I waited for him to back away, before I sped off.  I was flustered enough to accidentally run over the guy.

Excerpt #2

I stifled a gasp as a six-foot-four hunk of a man in a plain white tee and dark jeans that hugged every sinful bit of his lower half sauntered in. Diego prowled like a male model on a catwalk. He was just plain sexy all over.

“Sorry I’m late,” he said, eyes on me, as he neared. He kissed one side of my cheek.

“What are you doing here?” I whispered, then smiled.

“I knew you were gonna see Eddie, so I thought I’d surprise you and stop by. I would have made it on time, but I got stuck in traffic.” Diego glanced over my head and nodded. “Hey, Eddie.”

“Hello?” Eddie was right to question Diego’s presence.  On top of that, he didn’t even know him, but Diego acted as though he did.

I tapped a finger on my chin, trying to make sense of what was happening.  When I received the text from Chase: Is he there now? I got it. Diego was Chase’s solution to my dilemma.

“Hi!” Levi’s date spoke up in a high-pitched tone. Diego and I turned to her, and I swallowed a guffaw. She stretched out the hand that had been in Levi’s shirt moments before and offered it to Diego. “I’m Ophelia.”

Her name rolled over her tongue, and it sounded as though she said ‘I’ll feel yah.’ I bet she would too. I shuddered.

Diego, ever the good boy, took the proffered hand and shook it once. “Very nice to meet you.” He had to pull away forcefully from Ophelia’s grasp. Then he angled his body and stretched his own hand toward Levi. “Diego,” he introduced himself.

Levi’s eyes narrowed into tiny slits. He looked down at Diego’s large, callused hand, up to Diego’s face, and then to me.

I had to take advantage of the situation. The new me needed it. Levi brought Ophelia to either piss me off, or make me jealous, or whatever. I touched one of Diego’s bulging biceps and left my hand on it. “Diego dear, this is Levi. Remember the wedding I told you about last night?  He’s the best man.”  I made sure to enunciate the ‘last night’ and didn’t miss the understanding in Levi’s eyes.  Yes, he knew that Diego was my date.  He didn’t have to know that we had parted as friends.

Diego slowly retracted his hand. My face burned like I’d eaten a five-alarm hot pepper.

Eddie cleared his throat, produced dessert spoons and forks, and placed them on a linen serviette on the table. “Shall we continue?” We all returned our focus on Eddie.

I nodded. “Please.”

“Our first cake is an homage to our lovely country: apple and cinnamon cake with brown sugar frosting.” Eddie sliced the first cake and placed a piece of it on a plate.

“Diego and I will just share one, Eddie.” The words just came out. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Levi’s mouth gape.

“That’ll be the same for us,” Levi said. His voice did not waver.

I looked at Levi and Ophelia, who was still eyeing Diego and seductively licking a spoon.

Eddie stared at the two couples in front of him. He was as confused as ever. “Very well then.” He proceeded to cut the next cake, a mocha-colored frosting over yellow cake. “Next, we have almond with mocha icing, chocolate drizzle, and pistachio crumbs.”

The third cake was decorated more elaborately with Corneille lace piping, something I had become proficient in when I had worked for Eddie. “This is our blackberry and currant chiffon with raspberry filling and limoncello icing.

My dear Nica’s favorite.” Eddie glanced at me, and I sent him a pleased smile. “And last, but not least, dark chocolate with a whipped peanut butter mousse filling, and dark chocolate ganache. Rich, robust, and I believe it’s still the groom’s favorite.”

“You’re so good, Eddie. I can’t believe you remembered,” I quipped, even though I had reminded him about it yesterday when I confirmed this appointment.

He passed along the plates, and I placed them on the table. Four cakes for Diego and me, and four similar slices for Levi and Ophelia. I hoped he choked. Well, not really. Maybe just a little.

Eddie also provided carafes of water and glasses. Perhaps he could read my thoughts.

“Bon appétit!”

Diego and I took a spoon and fork each.

I watched as Ophelia scooped a piece of the first cake, and lifted it to Levi, who slowly–like we had all the time in the world to eat cakes–opened his mouth to take the dessert. So this was his game. I copied Ophelia’s actions and fed Diego a piece of the cake.

“Hmmm, very good. This is definitely a winner,” Diego offered his opinion. He used his fork to lift a tiny slice to my mouth. “Here you go, my sweet.”

My throat dried up upon hearing Levi’s term of endearment to me coming out of Diego’s lips. In my peripheral vision, I could see Levi’s jaw drop. I made sensual sounds with my mouth. The cake certainly tasted divine.

“Good, huh?” Diego’s eyebrows shot up.

I nodded as he continued to feast on the cake. “So good.”

“Sandrine’s allergic to nutmeg. And if I’m not wrong, I detect a hint of it in the flavors,” Levi told Eddie in a matter-of-fact way.

Damn, I dropped the ball on that one. I knew she was allergic to it. I had it in my notes somewhere. “Yes, that’s correct. Thanks for reminding us.” I sent a quick, shy look toward Levi. “Shall we try the next one?”

The same thing happened to the second cake. Ophelia fed Levi. Diego fed me, and I fed Diego. And every single time he did, Levi would move his head from side to side and rub the back of his neck.

Levi noted the complimentary flavors of the almond and the hint of coffee and chocolate of the second cake.

It was good, but it wasn’t elegant enough.

When we got to the third cake, my favorite, I added extra oomph in my moan, closing my eyes as I let the flavors of fresh berries and the sweet-tart combination of the limoncello icing explode in my mouth. My hands were pressed against Diego’s broad expanse of chest, and as I let the last bit of sweetness melt on my tongue, I fisted Diego’s white shirt. I opened my eyes marginally in what I hoped was a seductive gaze and smirked at Diego.

“That good, huh?” Diego’s face was plastered with a wide, knowing smile.

“It’s a perfect cake for a summer wedding,” I replied.

“It’s a bit tart.” From the other side of the table, Levi’s words sounded petty.

With my hands still over Diego’s shirt, I turned to Levi. “Tart?” I raised an eyebrow.

Levi crossed his arms over his chest, exposing the tanned, toned forearms under the sleeves of his light blue button down. He narrowed his eyes at me. I shot daggers at him.

“Why don’t we have a sip of water before the last cake?” Eddie suggested. He poured us a glass each, even offered one to Oh-feel-yah.

After a couple of minutes, we continued. I’d had the pleasure of tasting this cake before with Jake when we were dating. Back then, he had always made me promise that I would buy this cake for his next birthday. I never had the chance. Not for his birthday, at least.

I was pretty confident that this was the cake he would want at his wedding. Eddie could add some elegance to it by using a different type of icing, rather than a ganache so that he could display his skills in cake decorating.

Levi grabbed a fork and spoon off the serviette, cut a small piece with his fork, and pushed with his spoon. He raised the piece to his own mouth, and I could tell that he loved it. He made a small moan of approval.

I gave Diego a piece, and he rolled his eyes as he ate the cake. “Divine. Simply divine, Eddie. You’ve outdone yourself. Can we take this home?  I can think of many ways I’d like to eat it.”  There wasn’t just a subtle hint in

Diego’s eyes.  He made sure that everyone in the bakery knew what he meant.  My cheeks burned.

I swallowed the nervous anxiety in my belly, smiled at Diego, and took the smaller piece of cake on his fork. It was better than sex. Well, at least the sex that I’d had. The decadent bittersweet flavor of the moist cake paired with the sweet-saltiness of the peanut butter mousse and the rich ganache was to die for. I didn’t close my eyes as I tasted. Instead, I trained them toward Levi.

He was raptly watching me. We held our gazes together. With the tip of my tongue, I licked ganache off  the corner of my lips, then bit my bottom lip. I might have seen him tremble, but it was so slight that I wasn’t sure if I’d imagined it.

Veronica (Nica – which I love that name) is contacted by her ex-boyfriend Jake to have lunch. Nica, who misses her ex terribly, is excited to meet with him and potentially reconcile. Jake, still perfectly happy, shows up to ask Nica to plan his and his girlfriend’s wedding. To the girl Jake broke up with Nica for! Nica is obviously thrown and mistakenly agrees to plan their wedding.

Enter Chase, Nica’s outspoken best friend, who is determined for Nica not to be taken advantage of just because she was dazed and confused. And then there’s Levi, Jake’s philandering best man who seems to get quite jealous when Nica is with any other man.

This book was part The Wedding Planner, but much more funny! Each of the characters is funny and special in their own way.

I hope this series continues because I’d like Chase to get a happy ending too!

Review ~ Beautiful Goodbye ~ by ~ H. D’Agostino

Yes I’ve stayed up to read this even though I need to get to sleep STAT. Within 2% of starting the book, I had tears in my eyes. Rachel is just so devastated when she loses her dad. And thankfully, I haven’t but having to make such a decision at such a young age is just a heart-wrencher.

Ryan can’t forget about Rachel and how apropos that she is the one who he calls to tow his Jeep?

This story makes ALL the feels happen. You’re heart-broken, then laughing, then loving and just every emotion ripped from you. It’s an amazing read that I highly recommend!

About I’ll Get You:

IllGetYou1.6 (1)

PTA president Kelli Peters had a normal, happy life in Orange County, California, where she volunteered at her daughter’s school, carpooled, and took care of her family. When a school parent angrily accused Kelli of keeping her son waiting during the afterschool pick-up, it appeared to be a simple confrontation with an overprotective mother. Kelli soon learned, however, that she was the target of a twisted plot against her that involved drugs, lies, schemes, and a campaign to ruin her life. The vendetta led to reputations tarnished, careers lost, secret lives uncovered, two parents in jail, families destroyed, and a $5.7 million dollar civil judgment.

“I’ll Get You!” Drugs, Lies, and the Terrorizing of a PTA Mom is the true story of an ordinary American woman who survived an evil conspiracy that turned her life upside down and shook her hometown to its core.

I knew this was a true crime book going in but the lengths the Easters would go to to prove Kelli wasn’t fit to be a volunteer, PTA president, etc.  I still don’t understand what Jill was thinking or what her motivation was to prove Kelli was unfit and/or just all the things she was trying to accuse Kelli of.

Criminal Psychology is a passion of mine so motivation is always a huge factor for me with crimes and true crime books.  I always want to know why or what possesses some people to commit the crimes they do.  The fact that Jill was pushing Kelli to lie that the male teacher had molested her son.

I’m just thankful that Kelli and her family were able to get some resolution.  And I’m sorry that she had to go through that to begin with.
