Lucky.

The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me.

I’ve never believed in superstitions.

Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be.

Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers.

Now, I have to track her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.

I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her than my game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want.

If you’ve been around my reviews for a while, you know that I love me some Piper Rayne RomCom. And this is just as fantastic as their previous books and series. I cannot wait to meet more of the Florida Fury players!

And yes, I know NOTHING about hockey but I still absolutely LOVE me a hockey book! Just like football. Don’t know a field goal (do they have field goals?) from a touchdown but I still love a sports romance.

Anywho, back to Aiden and Saige. You might recognize them from the novella, Countdown to a Kiss – a great intro to them and their back story but you don’t need to read it to read and love this book. Aiden is not normally a superstitious player but when he’s in a slump and possibly being traded, he’s willing to do whatever to get out of the slump – hence where Saige comes in.

Aiden and Saige’s dynamic was just fun to read and a great ride from adversaries (ish) to friends and then more. I love that we got to see them both learning about each other and not just jumping into a relationship, I think that actually made their story that much better.

Just in reading the title, you know you’re going to be in for an angsty ride. But with Piper Rayne authoring, you know there’s also going to be some sweet, hot times and some laughs. Which is exactly what Kingston and Stella’s story gives you!

I’ve been waiting for Kingston’s story for a while. I’ve always been intrigued by Kingston, I used to work for a fire department too, so I was really excited to read this smokejumper’s story. So yes, smokejumper, Kingston is a daredevil type and Stella works in an ER, obvious they would reunite but they have such differing personalities. Stella and Kingston were the best of friends as kids, until Stella got together with Owen, their mutual friend.

Now Kingston is back in Lake Starlight and he wants to re-connect with Stella and reignite (or ignite) the fire he felt with Stella and get her feeling it as well.

This might have been one of my favorites of the Baileys, but I can’t say for sure until I read them all 🙂
