Title: Past Hurts
Series: Sizzling Miami Book 1
Author: Jessie G.
Genre: M/M Romantic Suspense
Release Date: June 24, 2020 (2nd edition)

Before they can get back together, Alaric and Davin will have to unravel the secrets that tore them apart.
Abandoned by his mother and raised by a judgmental, homophobic father on the unforgiving streets of Overtown, Davin Monroe knows a lot about survival and little about love.
As heir to the family business, Alaric Bennett’s innate strength makes him the pillar upon which the family problems fall, but leaves him emotionally abandoned by those that need him.
One chance meeting and five beautiful years together do not prepare them for the dark, depraved jealousy threatening their hard-earned happiness.

Now a killer has forced Detective Monroe to face the past and the only man his heart has ever wanted. With only one shot at redemption, Alaric is determined to uncover the truth and bring his lover home for good.
Before they can get back together, Alaric and Davin will have to unravel the secrets that tore them apart. But will the truth be enough to heal their past hurts?
Past Hurts is the first suspenseful novel in the Sizzling Miami Series. Originally published in 2014, Past Hurts has been rewritten and expanded, adding more than twenty thousand words to the overall story. If you love mystery and second chance romance, then you’ll love this newly expanded version by Jessie G.
“Are you going to say something or just stare at my ass until dinner’s done?”
Holy shit, he had been staring at that ass and who the hell could blame him? Didn’t he know firsthand how fine that ass looked and felt? “What the fuck, Ric? What are you doing here? How did you get in?”
“Cooking dinner so we can eat before we run, and I have a key,” Alaric answered without turning and continued to move food around a frying pan as if he had the first fucking clue how to cook. He never cooked or rarely ever cooked in the years they spent together.
Dumbfounded, Davin wasn’t sure he heard correctly. “You have a key?”
“Yep.” The spatula-free hand gestured toward the small breakfast bar. “It’s over there with my wallet if you want to take it.”
Obviously, there was no point in bothering. “You have copies.”
“Of course, I do.”
Of course, you do. You are Alaric Bennett and locked doors just magically open for you.
Then the rest of his words registered. “We aren’t running anywhere.”
“You didn’t come home to run?” Alaric finally looked over his shoulder, one perfectly sculpted eyebrow lifting as if to say, ‘who are you trying to kid?’ That subtle arrogance directly affected Davin’s libido and Alaric knew it. “Right. That’s what I thought.”
“If you came here to talk…”
“Do I look like I want to fucking talk?” Slamming the spatula on the stove, Alaric turned, reached out and curled a hand around the back of his neck, shrinking the already small space between them to nothing. “Or that either of us is ready for that conversation? You need to eat, you need to run, and you need to sleep. In that order. Go get changed.”
“Ric.” Davin was appalled to hear the helplessness in his tone, the one that begged Alaric to complete the embrace and finally give him a safe place to rest.
“Go get changed, Davin, now.”
With their foreheads touching, Davin could see that he wasn’t the only one all tied up in their emotions. That Alaric, who had always been so strong, was barely holding it together. In that moment, Davin realized he expected Alaric to take the news of his brother’s death, delivered by an ex-lover, the way he did everything else. With strength and stoicism, do what needs to be done and never show any emotion. Except with Davin, Alaric never hid them, and it was ridiculous to think he would start now.
No, they weren’t ready for that conversation and Alaric was right about what he needed, so retreat seemed the obvious choice. This—the dinner, the pretense of caring about what he needed—was nothing more than a way to ease some guilt. Maybe if he let Alaric get it out of his system, they could both move on.
“Yes, Ric.”
Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I’d begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: to be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it’s a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With three series in the works and a full schedule of releases planned for the next two years, it’s been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics, and happily ever after. I’m a lover of strong secondary characters, and series filled with families—biological or chosen. All are themes you’ll find throughout my books.

TBRreview

I was so excited for this book and the start of this series and it did NOT disappoint. Kieran and Leona are both so strong and smart and sassy that of course they would strike sparks off each other. They’re both the leads (or almost) of their families’ so they aren’t strangers to the mafia/crime family lifestyle.

Personally I love reading a mafia/crime boss who is tough AF but is a marshmallow to the person/family in their life – confession: I started to put male boss and marshmallow to the woman in their life but hey, this is 2020, women can be the boss!

Kieran and Leona have some uphill battles coming in this series. I can see it already. This book ends with a cliffhanger but not the one you’d expect. And that’s all I’m saying. I can’t wait to read more about the DeAngelo and Bravado families!

5 stars!

New Release ~ Finding Peace ~ by ~ Adelyn Zara

Title: Finding Peace

Series: Tales of Resilience #1
Author: Adelyn Zara
Genre: Romance
Release Date: July 9, 2020
Cover Design: Giselle Field of Wander Design

Struggling after the death of her husband and hindered by her inability to recover from cancer treatment, Lynn isn’t expecting to find anything other than entertainment at an awards show. When she meets music exec Donovan Rue, there’s instant chemistry – and instant chaos.

Donovan faces lawsuits and complaints from disgruntled employees. Lynn’s fragile self-esteem and her recent personal tragedy make her leery of Donovan’s interest. As things heat up between them, their chemistry threatens to implode.

As outside tensions and pressures mount, Lynn breaks away, but Donovan refuses to give up on the strong, resilient woman he sees beneath the damage. Can these two people find peace

An exhausted puppy was asleep in his crate near Lynn’s bedroom fireplace. Lynn and Donovan snuggled together, leaving the young people downstairs.“I hate when Christmas day ends,” Lynn declared as she stared into the fire. “It was such a nice Christmas. I’m glad that you and Dara could share it with us.”

“Thank you for having us,” Donovan answered. He smiled softly and asked, “Are you ready for your present, Peace?”

A small thrill ran through Lynn followed by guilt.

“You’ve given me so much, Donovan! Fancy clothes, jewelry, a chair …”

“But today is Christmas!”

Donovan stood up, found new music on his playlist. He motioned for Lynn to join him in another dance. Ben Harper’s Forever played as they swayed gently in place. Lynn’s body grew warm, her heartbeat increased at an idea of what Donovan’s present might be.

“Donovan,” she whispered as his lips grazed her cheek, their feet barely moving as he swayed her back and forth. His dark eyes sparkled, but he looked intense, needy.

“Just let me talk, please,” he pleaded.

He quit dancing. Taking a deep breath, Donovan took both of Lynn’s hands into his own.

“Lynn, you totally captivate me.”

His hand swiped through that raven hair again.

“I can’t imagine being without you. I love you so much.”

Donovan looked upward, closing his eyes tightly for a minute.

“Shit! I can’t even put this into coherent words.”

Lynn’s eyes widened in amazement. She was tongue-tied, too. Before she could find words to encourage or comfort him, Donovan was on one knee, still holding her hands. Lynn gasped, breaking her right hand loose from his hold, covering her mouth in surprise.

“Lynn, would you marry me?”

Now Lynn took back her left hand, bringing it up to join the other on her face. Tears sprung into her bright blue eyes; she still could not communicate.

Donovan wasn’t sure what to make of a subdued Lynn.

“I know we haven’t known each other long, but I know what I want when I see it.”

Again, he ran his hand through his hair.

“You see me for who I am, not the celebrity that the media makes up. You bring peace, happiness … shit, Lynn! I don’t care if I get sixty years with you or six minutes. I can’t live without you! I don’t know how to …”

“Yes.”

Lynn sucked in a breath after she said the one word. Looking down at the man she loved, she saw a mixture of surprise, then relief, then complete love.

“Yes?” he whispered.

“Yes!” Lynn repeated, then grabbed his hands, intending to help him off the floor. Instead, Donovan pulled her down, wrapped his arms around her, and kissed her as if he was afraid the answer would change.

“I was afraid you would say no, say it’s still too soon,” he said when he broke the kiss.

“What’s too soon?” Lynn asked. “I’ve been thinking a lot about this since your first proposal. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that time does go quickly, and you’d better grab what you want when the opportunity presents itself. And enjoy every second you have.”

Donovan pulled Lynn to him, surrounding her with strong arms.

“Absolutely!” he agreed, then continued. “I mean it when I said the time thing. I need to enjoy every minute with you, whether it’s ten minutes or one hundred years.”

Lynn leaned over to give Donovan another big kiss.

About If You Love Me:

Ex-Army sergeant, Drew Lancaster demands order, but when he’s thrust into small-town politics involving crazy elders and a manipulative mayor he finds himself submerged in chaos. His only hope to navigate the strange rules of the town comes from a distractingly beautiful, mess of a woman – Carissa Donahue.

If there wasn’t an upturn, she’d have to close her bakery. She can’t lose it. Owning a bakery has been her lifelong dream, and her focus since her best friend ran away with her fiancé.

The icing on the project for Drew is that a colleague has promised him a spot working at a real film network if Drew can spend time with Carissa and not fall in love. Drew isn’t sure he can resist the one person he’d never date under different circumstances, nor is he sure he wants to.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Drew Lancaster? His name even sounds like a pompous jerk.” Stella grunted for extra emphasis. “If we can’t meet for five minutes, then how can we work together for five months?”

“Listen, I realize these corporate types need to be treated as if they’re everything in the world, so don’t worry about it. I’ll just send him to Tabitha,” Ms. Horton said in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Like a toddler still on a pacifier,” Stella muttered under her breath.

She protested too much, which meant she needed this more than she would admit. They all knew her business was struggling the most in recent years. And even after all this time, as much as Carissa held so much resentment toward Jackie, she still couldn’t let the rest of her childhood friends lose to their arch enemies. No way would she allow them to win this program. Maybe if she spoke to this exec, she could convince him to start with one of the other girls first…another of the Fabulous Five. “Fine, I’ll meet with the glorified party planner.” Carissa realized that Jackie had a point. She did sound more like Stella than herself today. Good, maybe it was time for Carissa to give up her sweet-doormat title. It was time to take a walk and cool off before she met with this Drew character, so she turned on her heels and smacked into something hard and large. She rubbed her nose free of sting and blinked up at a perfect stranger. Perfect height, perfect hair, perfect lips.

“You okay there?” His deep voice closed in around her.

Space. That’s what she needed. She moved away and took a breath. A breath of Ode de Mysterious with an undertone of trouble. After a moment, she managed to turn her January gloom into a friendly welcome. “Yes, I am now. Thank you. Sorry. Who are you?”

He quirked an attitude-changing grin at her. “I’m the pompous, glorified party planner, toddler, stuck-on-a-pacifier Drew Lancaster.”

New Release ~ Image Protector ~ by ~ Lily Alexander

Title: Image Protector

Series: Image Series
Author: Lily Alexander
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 8, 2020

Nothing in Hollywood stays a secret for long.

Nora Chase is the good girl of the small screen.

Her carefully cultivated image is under lock and key – the price to keep it that way has been steep. One misstep in a relationship early in her Hollywood career cost her dearly – and she’s still paying the price.

When she meets Maxwell Caine through mutual friends, her emotions pay no attention to the moratorium she’s put on relationships. She never meant to fall in love again, let alone so quickly. His steadfast presence gives a comfort she didn’t know she was seeking and isn’t sure she deserves.

Will he stand by her when her past is exposed?

“So, yeah. You and Maxwell.” Devon’s eyebrow lifted as he showed her the screen of his phone. He playfully hummed the ‘sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g’ melody.

They had just been allowed to vacate their chairs in the make-up trailer and were on their way across the back-lot to wardrobe.

The picture was of them leaving Cleo after their date, both of them smiling. Maxwell had his hand on her lower back and she appeared to be leaning into his touch. They looked comfortable and familiar. Happy even.

They definitely didn’t look like they were on a first date, either, which was strangely satisfying and also just a little bit strange.

Remembering how his warm hand felt on her body made her lips curve upward. It was just seconds later they had encountered the paparazzi near the parking lot. That particular shot appeared to have been taken from across the street.

“Dinner,” she said simply.

Devon grunted in frustration and followed her into wardrobe.

“Obviously. How’d it go?”

Nora shook her head. Devon was enjoying this entirely too much.

“Why are you so anxious to get the two of us together? I don’t understand why it matters so much to you.”

Devon clucked his tongue at her, eyebrows drawn together as he tsked. He gathered the clothing meant for him and she did the same. They efficiently changed in small curtained cubicles next to one another.

“You’ve dated, but you haven’t had a real, serious boyfriend since that weirdo in college. What was his name? John? Jack? James?”

Nora knew he was being ridiculous on purpose. He was also wrong. It was one of the few secrets she’d ever kept from him.

“Jacob. You know that.”

“Ah yes, Jacob the art history major.” Devon pulled a face and gave an exaggerated half-gag.

“He was nice.”

Devon’s arm flew out, pointing directly at her as she adjusted her blouse and wiggled around in the leather pants she had been assigned. She could swear that the wardrobe ladies were only making her wear them because they hated seeing her enjoy food. Though they really did make her ass look good. She shrugged at herself in the mirror as she looked over one shoulder at her backside.

“Exactly. Nice.” He looked like he’d sucked on a lemon. “We’ve already had this conversation.”

With that, he turned on his heel and strode quickly out of wardrobe, Nora hustling to follow him to set.

“At least he wasn’t a huge jerk. Or have constant onion breath. Or another girlfriend.” Those things may have been just a few of the things she’d encountered on dates since graduating and moving to Los Angeles.

None of those were the big bad ugly either. Devon knew about the man she’d seen for an extremely short amount of time named David, but he didn’t know what he’d done. What he was still doing. Devon had him classified in the three dates or less category which to him didn’t count. In reality, they’d dated seriously for a few months.

Keeping a secret like that from Devon had been no small feat, and she was beginning to feel like the clock was ticking for how long she could keep it up.

“True, but still not worthy of you, my dear.” That smirk appeared and Devon slung his arm over her shoulders. “Tell Uncle Dev all about it.”

Nora sighed, knowing she was going to be trapped with him for a while as they finished shooting a different scene. There was no getting around her best friend or his nosiness.

“We met for dinner. It was amazing Greek food and reminded me of Yiayia Lou. Paps were waiting when we left. That was less than awesome, but he used his body to block them for me.” She inclined her head, knowing this tidbit would please him.

Devon’s eyebrows rose up, and he smiled. “Good man.”

Nora’s head nodded shortly. “Yes. He’s very nice,” she teased.

He growled. “Don’t make me text my wife. I will.”

A laugh rose out of her chest. “You text her all day long, anyway. And I think you just love calling her that. Simply saying the word wife brings you joy. It’s weird. You know that it’s a little weird, right? Based on your ‘three dates and done’ history?”

Lily is a Colorado native enjoying the fantastic climate of Southern California with her family and cranky cat after surviving more than a decade in hot, humid places where hurricanes get their own season and Winter is a myth.

The written word is her favorite thing – reading or writing, she doesn’t discriminate. Left to her own devices she can read about a book a day; that HEA is a powerful drug!

As an only child she grew up inventing elaborate stories for her dolls to act out. She started word processing on a computer around age 10 and never looked back. After suffering the heartbreak of catastrophic drive failure a regrettable number of times, she has finally learned to back things up appropriately and often.

Follow her antics on social media! (If she disappears for a bit around late August, don’t worry, that’s just her wanderlust kicking in. She’ll be back soon.)

New Release ~ Broken ~ by ~ Stacy Gail

Title: Broken
Series: Brody Brothers Series
Author: Stacy Gail
Genre: Contemporary, New Adult, Cowboy/Rancher Romance
Release Date: June 17, 2020
“The Hatfields and McCoys have nothing on the Brodys and Smileys.”
The feud was all Winnie Smiley heard about while growing up next door to those arrogant cowboys, the Brodys. Smiley homestead might be a dilapidated eyesore that she’d run away from as a teen, but it did possess something the Brodys had schemed in vain to get—Smiley Lake. Now, with the region crippled with drought and her monstrous father burning in hell, Winnie stands to inherit the lake. She knows that’s why Des is suddenly everywhere she turns, but that doesn’t matter. She’d never had a chance to grab at happiness before, so even if it’s just the lake Des wants, she’s going to make damn sure she’s part of the deal.

“The Smileys live to screw with the Brodys.”
After nearly dying on the horns of a murder-happy bull, former rodeo star Des Brody now has to figure out his place on Green Rock Ranch. All his brothers are settled with their new families, and they know exactly what to do to make Green Rock run. But Des? All he can do is try to make sure the empire they’ve built doesn’t shrivel up and blow away in the drought. Landing Smiley Lake is key to stabilizing Green Rock’s water supply, but there’s an obstacle—Winsome Smiley. Only she’s not really an obstacle. More like a meal begging to be eaten.
And he’s hungry as hell.

“I’m a Brody, and a Brody always gets what he wants.”
When Winnie doesn’t inherit Smiley Lake, she assumes she and Des are finished before they even began. To her shock, Des has other ideas and shows her an undiscovered world of pleasure. But just as she starts to believe Des wants her solely for herself, she discovers he hasn’t been totally upfront with her. Now she had a choice to make—trust her heart, or believe her ancestors had it right in saying that a Brody can never be trusted.
***This contemporary romance is the fourth and final book in the Brody Brothers series. While it may be read as a standalone, I suggest reading the first three books, BRANDED, BRACED and BRUISED for a more enjoyable read. This book contains multiple sex scenes and lots of swearing. It also contains a bossy Alpha who may compel you to throw your Kindle at the nearest wall (please don’t). No cheating, no love triangles, no cliffhangers. HEA guaranteed. Due to adult language and sexual content, this book is not intended for people under the age of eighteen***

***TRIGGER WARNING*** This book contains a heroine who suffered sexual abuse as a child, and a hero who suffered physical and emotional abuse. If you have issues with these elements, this book is not for you.

“What do you want in life, Winsome Smiley?” Automatically he turned in the direction of his old room, the one and only place that had been somewhat of a safe haven in this nightmare place. “What hopes and dreams does the girl next door have?”
“Probably not the kind that would set the Brody world on fire.”
“All that matters is if those dreams set your world on fire. Do they?”
She nodded in a shy little way that made him want to tug her to him and never let go. “I’ll admit, I do have a few dreams that are near and dear to my heart. What about you?” she added, glancing up at him with those heart-stopping pale eyes of hers. “What is it that you want out of life? Name the first thing that comes to mind.”
“You.”
Her gasp probably wasn’t the most encouraging response he could have hoped for. At least he had her attention.
“What?” she whispered, her free hand fluttering up to her chest. “Sorry, I misheard you. What?”
“You heard me just fine.” He didn’t bother to hide how closely he watched her, gauging her reactions to see just how far he could push things. “Though I think I need to make sure you understand me.”
“Um…”
“I’m attracted to you, Winsome—the look of you, the sound of you, the scent of you. I want you, more than I’ve ever wanted anyone in my life, and I want you to want me the same way.”
“Des.” As he watched, her eyes darkened with both an arousal that thrilled him and an alarm that made his teeth grind. “You can’t just pop off and say things like that.”
“Yeah I can, and I’m not done yet. I’m not done, because I want you to know the thoughts that go through my head whenever I look at you are so X-rated they’d make a porn star blush, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.”
“Holy crap,” she whispered.

“That’s why I want you to hunger for me like you haven’t eaten in a week and I’m your favorite dish. That’s how I hunger for you, so I won’t be happy until you feel the same way. I want you naked, and I want to be naked with you. In fact, I’ve wanted that from the moment I found you skinny-dipping. That’s a night I’ll never forget. I got so hard for you I couldn’t sleep that night. Not even jerking off with your name on my lips when I came was enough to satisfy me, and the cold shower I took afterwards didn’t cool me down either. So I’m not going to lie to you. When you ask what I want out of life, you are the first thing riding the top of my wish list. It’s best you know that.”

A competitive figure skater from the age of eight, Stacy Gail began writing stories in between events to pass the time. By fourteen, she told her parents she was either going to be a figure skating coach who was also a published romance author, or a romance author who was also a figure skating pro. Now, with a day job of playing on the ice with her students, and writing everything from steampunk to cyberpunk, contemporary to paranormal at night, both dreams have come true.

Sacred Bond eBook

From the outside, Stone Ridge appeared to be a small, welcoming town in Montana with sweet shops and friendly faces. Yet no one knew the true powers it held, the ancient secrets that were hidden, or the pain that had unfolded when the ancestors were met with a force so great it left them all in shambles.

The key to resurfacing the powers of the land fell into the hands of Merick. But in order to do so, he would need to build an army. One big enough to withstand those that threatened him and all that he stood for.

Taryn left the big city life looking for a change, a chance to discover herself. Little did she know, her life would unravel in more ways than she could’ve ever imagined. And all because of one man.

The dark-haired stranger. The one that felt so familiar, yet she had no idea why. They’d never met before…or had they?

Whenever he was near she felt a strong connection, one that could not be denied. That feeling of déjà vu. Like she’s lived that moment before, seen those eyes, heard that voice. Even his touch felt electric.

A Sacred Bond had formed.

Turns out, Taryn was the key to it all. She was written in Merick’s destiny, long before their time.

Meet The Authors

C.A. Harms is an avid romance and mystery reader. She’s always had a love for books, getting lost in writing and storytelling even as a young girl. She enjoys happy endings and HEA love stories.

She lives in Illinois and enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She holds an addiction for Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha’s and KitKat when she should really be focusing on water and maybe a fruit or two to make herself feel less guilty, but that feeling quickly passes…thankfully.

She is easy going, fun, and although she may seem like one of the quiet ones at first, you just wait until she gets to know you better…that quietness changes, fast.

A Midwesterner and self-proclaimed nerd, Evan has been an avid reader most of her life, but five years ago got bit by the writing bug, and it quickly became her addiction, passion and therapy. When the voices in her head give it a rest, she can always be found with her e-reader in her hand. Some of her favorites include, Shayla Black, Jaci Burton, Madeline Sheehan and Jamie Mcguire. Evan finds a lot of her inspiration in music, so if you see her wearing her headphones you know she means business and is in the zone.
During the day Evan works for a large homecare agency and at night she’s superwoman. She’s a wife to Jim and a mom to Ethan and Evan, a cook, a tutor, a friend and a writer. How does she do it? She’ll never tell.
