I hadn’t read this series before so I had to read book 1 first to get introduced to these people and the wonder of Sebastian. Which after reading Before Girl, I needed to know more about this crotchety, perpetually grumpy, growly man. Which how awesome is it that the smiley, super happy Doctor Sara is the one to mellow out Sebastian’s rough edges?

I mean, with that much chemistry between the two, it was just a matter of time before they gave in, right? Sara is so complex, I absolutely loved reading her story. It isn’t just a matter of her history, but everything she’s had to deal with – which Sebastian understands and is determined to protect Sara from.

I loved how strong each was in their conviction of hatred of the other, but then wouldn’t allow others to trash them. Sebastian has been known to be the surly grump so any feeling that isn’t grump must be hidden at all costs! So it was so hard for Sebastian and Sara to get it together and be a couple.

I loved this version of Beauty and the Beast, with a more modern twist. First, I’ve never met or read about a woman with the name Jasper-Anne. And truthfully, no man with a first name Linden if I’m completely honest. And with their unconventional first names before, I absolutely loved their story!

Jasper-Anne was determined to make friends, at least acquaintances with Linden. And Linden, while being anti-social, has to help this woman with her cabin. She is obviously a city girl and needs a lot of help. And maybe she can help him with his mother and family wanting him to date. And he might find her very attractive.

I truly loved and felt for Jasper-Anne. I can’t say that I would have done the same thing but I definitely would have felt the same as she did dealing with what she had.

It takes a lot to use a fairytale (is Beauty and the Beast a fairytale?) as a loose basis for a story and to do a good job at it but Ms Canterbury definitely has!

Author Bio

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people—be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane—ever since.

Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.
