Ana DaSilva is looking for a palate cleanser. A one night stand. A reboot.

Instead, she got fireworks, sparks, chemistry, and the perfect guy. No one wants to meet Mr. Right when he should just be Mr. Rebound, but Mr. Right is so, so right.
But then he went from Mr. Right to Mr. Never, because when she learns she’s pregnant three days after that wonderful night with Dennis, she realizes her sleazy drug dealing ex not only left her with the legal mess she knew about, he gave her a life-long present.
One that means ignoring Dennis’ texts and phone calls, no matter how much she wants to answer.
Dennis Luview wants to escape his pain. Coming back to his hometown of Luview, Maine – the cheesy tourist trap where every day was Valentine’s Day – means facing a past he left behind twenty-four years ago. Yes, his family is loving, and sure, he has roots that go bone-deep in the small town community where people step up for each other.
But the naive eighteen-year-old who left to serve his country is now a retired Special Ops vet with a heavy entourage of ghosts and PTSD. No woman deserves all the baggage he’s lugging around.
Including Ana, who clearly wants nothing to do with him, no matter how intense their one haunting encounter really was.
Which is why six months after that hot night, he’s stunned to find her in his hometown, at a bridal shower, her ripe, pregnant belly swelling under a gorgeous yellow sundress.
A public confrontation turns into a very private reunion, and as Dennis pursues Ana she opens up, but is he crazy to want her — and what turns out to be another man’s baby — to settle down and find stability and love?
Or is he deluding himself that he’s remotely worth the happiness an instant family could offer, after his terrible past?

Oh.

Oh.
Oh, my goodness.
“Brie,” she said, her knees going weak, her body starting to tremble like that teen boy’s hands. “It’s–help.”
“Help? What’s wrong? Is it the baby?”
Sharp as a tack, Lucinda left the boy hanging and turned to her.
“Ana? What’s wrong? Do you need to sit? Is something wrong with the baby?”
Time changed.
Each second skipped like a stone on water, like a hummingbird’s wings, like there was all the time in the world yet every bit of it was gone.
She took a step backward. Then another, her belly going heavy, her heart completely confused in her chest, trying to decide whether to jump for joy…

…or flee screaming.

The group of people was moving closer, step by step, each one more final than the last.
Each one clearer than the last.
The big man in the navy t-shirt, wearing sunglasses he was now slowly removing as he looked at her like an assassin peering through a rifle sight was, indeed, Dennis.
Her Dennis.
Dennis from their one night stand.
“ANA!” Brie said loudly. “What’s going on?”
At Brie’s words, Dennis’s sunglasses dropped to the ground, his legs faster than she ever imagined something so thick could be. He ran around his group, startling the lumberjack dude, making the fashionable woman wobble on her high heels.
“Hey!” the guy called out, but Dennis ran, coming to an abrupt halt, his eyes on her belly.
Her big, ripe belly, as round as the sun.
Then he looked at her eyes.
Her belly.
Her eyes.
Ana?” His face reflected her own yearning, her desperate wish, her desire, her–
“Dennis, I can explain–”

He guided Rachel away from the gazebo, over to an old and dappled beech tree.

“Does the world feel different to you now, Kell?” she asked. “How can a few words make everything change so much? I feel it, too. It’s as if we unleashed a force of energy we didn’t know was out there. No one tells you this! All the articles on engagements and proposals and what to expect and what to do…” She took in a deep breath. “But no one talks about this, this feeling, this charge between the two of us…”
“Maybe they don’t talk about it because they don’t feel it. Maybe it’s that unique.”
She just blinked, once and then twice, the seconds passing as if all he were meant to do was share this space with her.
Nothing else mattered. Nothing else existed. Just the two of them, talking about how their love had exposed a secret aspect of existence.
You know. Everyday stuff.

By the time he walked back into the living room, Kylie was petting a very happy Jester, Harriet was munching on a small plate of cheese and apple slices, and the first girl he’d ever kissed gave him an evaluative look that made him do a double take.

“I’ll stay with her,” Kylie chirped. Yeah, chirped. She sounded like a freaking bluebird of happiness.
He stared at her. “You’ll what?
“I’ll stay with her.”
“No. Thanks, but no way. You’re a stranger.”
“I’m Red Cross certified in CPR and first aid. I have a master’s degree in education and am a licensed teacher. And I’m not a stranger.” A blush formed on the tips of her ears as she looked up at him in a way that made Luke remember the past, a pier, a pretty girl, and a perfect moon.
He recalled that blushing-ear quirk from years ago. Kylie hadn’t changed one bit. The taste of her cinnamon gum from that kiss on the pier at camp made his mouth water.
“No. You’re not a stranger. But…Harriet doesn’t know you. And you’re not exactly trustworthy.”
“Excuse me?”
“You got stuck in a charity donation box on Thanksgiving night, Kylie. I have a right to question the executive functioning skills of someone who does that.”
“It was an accident! And you’ve got it all backwards, Luke. The fact that you found me in that donation box is a testament to my resourcefulness! Not a reason to question my abilities.”

Here.” My executive assistant, Dave, shoves a perfectly wrapped present at me, with a card and a small envelope. We’re in my office, the sun shining on this beautiful spring day, and I am finishing up work before taking a vacation.
Yes–vacation. It’s for one night, but it counts.
“What’s this?”
“Your anniversary gift for Shannon.”
The note card is blank.
He notices me noticing this and his face sours, the corners of his mouth dropping in scorn, pulling his beard down so he looks like an angry leprechaun.
“I draw the line at writing sweet nothings to your wife and signing your name, even if my rendition of your signature is far superior to your own,” he says dryly, reaching down to square a pile of papers on my desk.
“My signature is my signature. No one can best it, Dave.”
He just snorts.
I shake the box lightly. “What’s in here?”
“Leather.”
Leather?
“Ninth-year anniversary gift. Leather is flexible and represents durability.”
“I am well aware of what leather represents. What does it have to do with my marriage?”
He snorts again.
I frown and ask, “Just leather? What is it, a wallet?”
“No! Of course not. The traditional gemstone for ninth anniversaries is lapis. I had a jewelry artist set chunks of lapis in gold, then stitch them onto a leather cuff bracelet.” Dave holds his phone up to me, showing a picture of the piece.
“That’s incredible.”
A short sigh of contentment, then a clipped, “You’re welcome” is how Dave takes a compliment. He doesn’t feed off praise.
He feeds off his own hypercompetence. If efficiency were a drug, Dave would be Al Pacino on Scarface, covered in the fine white powder of his own brutal excellence.
“The lighthouse is reserved for the evening?” I inquire, reaching for my briefcase.
“Yes. Your suit’s in the car already.” Dave eyes me. “Where will you change?”
I’m wearing jeans, hiking boots, and a Lacoste polo shirt, all Shannon’s favorites. The dark green shirt is a nod to my eyes, which she has spent almost a decade raving about.

Title: Love You Right
Series: Love You, Maine #1
Author: Julia Kent
Genre: Romantic Comedy/Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 26, 2022
BLURB

A missed opportunity five years ago makes for an unexpected encounter now between two people meant for each other – but who square off in a very public battle of wills in the small town of Love You, Maine, where every day is Valentine’s Day. Can love conquer all in a town steeped in it?

Kell Luview refuses to be a sucker at love again. Five years ago, he left D.C. with his tail between his legs and his heart broken. Fiercely protective of his small town in rural Maine, he’s determined to save the family tree business and avoid his feelings at all costs, no matter how much he longs to solve the mystery of what happened in D.C.

L.A. native Rachel Hart hates being underestimated almost as much as she hates this small town. She has two goals on this trip: get out of the cheesy tourist trap of Love You, Maine with a completed business deal, and avoid running into Kell, her old friend from D.C. who never became an old flame because of a huge misunderstanding.

One that still aches.

When her rental car breaks down on a logging road and Kell comes to her rescue, it’s clear he’s a changed man – and not for the good. Grumpy and reserved, he pushes all her buttons, still stubbornly convinced she betrayed him all those years ago. He’s never forgiven her, and she’s never forgiven herself for carrying a torch for him.

An embarrassing incident gets the town gossip mill going when residents wrongly assume Kell and Rachel are the newest couple to find love in the most romantic place on Earth. But the townsfolk aren’t wrong for long…

As Rachel breaks through his defenses and charms the town, he faces his biggest fear: all those pesky feelings he’s been avoiding.

Because they’re all about Rachel now.

And maybe they always were.

Can Kell and Rachel fight their growing attraction in the one place in the world where you can’t avoid love?

If you’re looking for a fun read about enemies to lovers, forced proximity, heroines who get their comeuppance and sworn bachelors felled by unexpected true love, featuring a hot bearded lumberjack impervious to poison ivy, and a city-slicker, jaded career woman with a penchant for great coffee, set in a small town in New England – then this is your book.

Grab a cup of (properly good) coffee, a can of hot cocoa mix, a jar of Fluff and maybe some calamine lotion (just in case), and get your happymeter ready as you read the very first book in New York Times bestselling romantic comedy author Julia Kent’s Love You, Maine series – where love isn’t just a feeling – it’s a way of life.

I’m a professional chickenblocker.

Except “chicken” is a euphemism.
I get paid to follow a womanizing troglodyte who thinks rules are for other people and that my pants are the next pair he’s getting into.
Dream on.
Bet your first professional job didn’t involve babysitting an extremely hot, muscle-bound Scottish Highlander with an ego the size of a kilt and a libido bigger than his…well…
Chicken.
Keeping Scottish football (that’s ‘soccer” to us Americans) player Hamish McCormick away from inappropriate scandals while he does product endorsement campaigns is my mission.
No problem.
Until Hamish decides I’m his next scandal.
And maybe more….
Shopping for a Highlander is an enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romance that opens with a surprise kiss and ends with a happily ever after. This sports comedy in the New York Times bestselling Shopping for a Billionaire world contains no actual chickens, but it has plenty of locker room scenes, a fake relationship, very real banter, and more. You do not have to have read the previous books in this world, though after you read about Amy and Hamish, you’ll want to. 😉

Hamish McCormick’s tongue is in my mouth. I realize this is a problem half the women on the planet would love to have. He’s a world-famous Scottish soccer–sorry, football to everyone except Americans–player, and my sister is married to his cousin, the billionaire. Given the fact that Hamish is kissing me in front of my date, though, it’s a little awkward. “Ahem,” said date says, scratching his temple, adjusting his glasses, and using polite, understated throat techniques to get Hamish off me. Subtlety doesn’t work on Hamish, though. This kiss is anything but subtle. Pretty sure you’d need a crowbar to pry him off me. Or me off him. The distinction between who is kissing whom was lost long ago. I see my date, Davis, out of the corner of my eye, and I’m about to shove this two-hundred-pound sack of hard muscle and overconfident heat off of me and slap him, but sweet merciful deity, I swear Hamish’s lips have some kind of magic potion on them that renders me spellbound. No kiss has ever tasted like this. Except the last kiss from him.

Her books have been translated into French and German, with more titles releasing soon. From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men’s room toilet (and he isn’t a billionaire). She lives in New England with her husband and three children in a household where the toilet seat is never, ever, down.

I don’t understand Americans.

Or, as we say in Scotland, I dinna understand ye eedjits.
And I definitely dinna understand the crazy mother-in-law of my cousin Declan. Who in their right mind names a wee dog Chuffy?
I’m stuck in New York after ma agent makes a bloody mess of an otherwise good endorsement contract for a sports towel company, and this crazy American holiday–Thanksgiving–is in two days.
The invitation to spend it in Mendon, Massachusetts, with the Jacoby family is about as appealing as rotten haggis. As far as I can tell, Thanksgiving is about stuffing yerself silly, watching pathetic American “football,” while fighting with relatives ye only see once a year.
If I wanted that last one, I’d head back to Scotland, where we dinna need a holiday to be salty to each other.
Ma firm answer is nae.
Until I remember Amy is part of the family.
Suddenly, I’m available.
Eager, even. Perhaps she’ll pull ma wishbone. I hear that’s part of the Turkey Day festivities, aye?
What I canna admit, though, is how she pulls ma heartstrings, too.
Which shouldna feel better than the wishbone, but it does.
And here comes Amy’s mother with another holiday tradition, this one a bit early.
A sprig o’ mistletoe, dangling right above Amy’s bonnie head.
–-
Shopping for a Turkey features Scottish football player Hamish McCormick and Amy Jacoby as they navigate unusual cultural norms, new traditions, and the undeniable attraction between these two characters, who have appeared as supporting players in Julia Kent’s New York Times-bestselling Shopping series.
It’s their turn to have their own all-new spinoff series. And to pull the wishbone. 😉

My attention wanders to the back yard. I watch Hamish doing sprint after sprint, over and over, each one as enthusiastically brutal as the last. His legs are a work of art. I’ll give him that.
Soccer player legs are a thing. Tree trunks in muscled form, they’re huge and powerful, developed by years of daily footwork and bold runs. He’s a cocky jerk, but a premier player like Hamish doesn’t get to his level without a crushing amount of hard body work.
He just keeps going, sprint after sprint, ignoring the dripping sweat, until he stops to drink, then…
Starts again.
My boots are by the front door, so I pass Dad and Declan, who are laughing together about James being a sophisticated older man. Massachusetts winters mean the heavy boots come out in late October. I’m fine without a coat today, my sweats warm enough, but no way will I head out there bootless.
The yard gets plenty of sun, so the ground he’s running on is tan, dead grass, but there’s a perimeter of snow at the base of the fence, where it’s always in the shade. It’s cold enough for the top layer of dirt to be frozen, but the terrain is uneven.
Nothing like a soccer field.
“It’s not flat like the fields you’re used to playing on,” I call out from a small spot of clear concrete on the patio.
“Pitch.”
“Excuse me? Did you just call me a bitch?”
That makes him stop, brow down, sweat dripping from copper-colored ringlets, true horror in his eyes. “What? Nae! I said pitch. With a P.”
“What’s a pitch?”
“A field. A soccer field.” He says soccer the way I say, well…
His name.
Dripping with sarcasm.
“Are you capable of having a single conversation with me that doesn’t involve insults or sex?”
“I was about to ask ye the same, Amy.”

New Release & Review ~ Shopping for a Yankee Swap ~ by ~ Julia Kent

Christmas is nostalgia heaven for my family (unless you count the Christmas tree fire last year, which we won’t…).

Mom owns more holiday decorations than twelve area malls combined. Dad prides himself on hand-chopping the best live tree, while my older sister perfected peppermint cookies to the point of unparalleled bliss, and my younger sister has memorized every Christmas carol with her fingers for a piano bash that goes on and on.

And on.

But this year, Christmas is different.

This year, the McCormick men are joining the Yankee Swap.

You know how it works, right? Bring the craziest gift you can possibly find, pick a number, open the presents in order and play “steal the gift” until person Number One gets one last chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

My husband, Declan, is on a mission to win. He’s so sure he can find the absolutely, positively, unreservedly weirdest gift that he’s willing to go to any extreme to find it.

Any extreme.

That’s right.

He’s going thrift store shopping with my mother. The billionaire and the frugal queen are on a quest.

Only one will win.

And on Christmas evening, after we’re stuffed silly, sung out, the kids fall asleep and the adults break out the bizarre presents and the alcohol, it’ll be showtime.

Because there ain’t no competition like a McCormick competition.

But the Jacoby family has a trick or ten up its sleeves, too.

Declan and Shannon are back in yet another hilarious Christmas family saga in Julia Kent’s New York Times bestselling romantic comedy series.

It’s a competitive Yankee Swap – what could go wrong? Read and find out 😉 .

Welcome back to the crazy world of Shannon and Declan! I never realize how much I miss these characters until I read the latest installment of their story. And then it makes me want to go back and read the start of the series with Shannon mystery shopping. Which I might just do because why not?

I’d never heard of a Yankee Swap, so I’m glad it was explained. It’s essentially what I know as a white elephant party/gift. This year, the Jacoby Christmas tradition will include the McCormicks. BUT in true McCormick fashion, it’s a competition over who can get the most ridiculous gift within the parameters.

If you’ve read this series, you know the hilarity that can ensue and certainly does in this latest installment. Between the crazy Jacoby family, to the staunchness of the McCormick men, there are tons of laugh out loud moments that only the “Shopping” series can bring.

5 stars!

“I refuse to be the elf,” Jeremy insisted as Lydia tossed the tights at his face, the silky green fabric catching on the inside of his lip.

“But you’re tall! And wiry! Like that guy in the movie.”
Sputtering, he flung the cloth on the couch, one leg draped over the arm in a manner that reminded him of a brothel.
“I look nothing like the guy who played Elf,” he argued.
“With your hair all grown out like that and curly, you kind of do. You need to shave the salt and pepper beard, though.”
“I do not have salt in my beard!”
Lydia stroked the side of his cheek and laughed. “I didn’t know you were in denial, too, Jeremy.”
He grunted, shoving his feet into his boots, but he couldn’t stay grumpy for long as Lydia stood, adjusting her long, flowing red shawl. Today was the Camp Christmas Festival at Escape Shores Campground, and it was all hands on deck.
But Jeremy refused to be an elf hand.
“Miles can wear the damn tights.”
“Miles is on elf strike, too.”
“Can’t Pete and Sandy find some local kids to play the elves?”
“The little kids still believe in Santa.”
“Then find some teens to do it.”
“Too jaded. Plus, they’re all busy with final exams and sports.”
“Get Ed and Madge up here. They can be elves.”
“Grandma did it for years. It’s too cold, Jeremy. They can’t be outside for hours like that.”
“I will not be guilted into this.”
Just then, the front door to their cabin creaked open, Mike entering the living room.
Wearing… a Santa suit.
