A sexy, new forbidden romance from USA Today bestselling author Alexa Padgett.

For the first time in years, I want…

I want Knox Wright. My best friend’s brother, my boss…the man who breaks my still-shattered heart.

Knox was a college hockey legend and, now, he’s one of the most successful architects in decades. I was the new hire whose desperate need to move on from that night drove me to succeed.

I never should have accepted the position, not once I looked into Knox Wright’s eyes and felt the heat deep in my belly…but I did. Because Knox makes me feel alive. And as I fall under Knox’s spell, our relationship turns intense and deep…and secret. When our affair runs the risk of being exposed, I face a far more intimate betrayal than I ever expected.

Is it the chance of a lifetime or his biggest mistake?

When former hotel manager Alex Kirkland, his sister and their best friends pooled their money for an unusual lottery prize—a historic, dilapidated inn on the Maryland shore—as a last-ditch attempt to escape rotten circumstances, they never expected to win. But they’re all looking for a fresh start and a second chance, so Alex convinces everyone to move in and repair the building in time for the spring wedding season.

Sydney Darrow never planned to return to her hometown. But her family needs her and Sydney can endure anything for 90 days—including making sandwiches and serving coffee with a smile until she returns to her jet-setter career. When her grandma mistakes a handsome customer for the “fiancé” Sydney created when she thought her grandma was on death’s door, well…Sydney will do anything to keep her spirits up during treatment. She can persuade him to keep up the charade for a few months, right?
But when Alex agrees to play along, will they both fall for their own fiction?

Alex’s expression morphed into straight-up solemnity, like he’d slipped on a mask. “The four of us have no incoming income until we get this inn running. Damn straight I’m all about the bottom line.”

“I guess I can add practical to your list of traits.” Which Sydney appreciated. It was the people who pretended not to care about money but pinched every penny in secret that were difficult. Hiding things—anything, big or small—never turned out well.

In a tone drier than Death Valley, Alex said, “That is just what every man longs to hear during a proposal. That practicality came in ahead of good looks and sex appeal.”

“I didn’t say that.” Did he truly not know that he smoldered with sex appeal? That he could be the man in a cologne/watch/champagne ad? It was actually endearing that he needed a bit of an ego stroke. “Alex, you’re suavely handsome. Your smiles are rare, and all the more potent because of it.”

Those icy eyes widened in…disbelief? Appreciation? Hard to tell. But then he dipped his chin. “Nice to hear. Was that so hard?”

“I didn’t realize you needed a bit of flirting to consider this favor. It seemed…forward to lead off with cataloging your physical traits.”

“Forward?” A huge belly laugh rolled out of him. It was warm and contagious, even though Sydney knew it was aimed at her. “You just proposed after a grand total of ten minutes of conversation, over two days.”

Men had a tendency to be so darned literal. “I’m not proposing for real. I’m asking for your help. You will, in no way, be obligated to follow through into a fake marriage.”

“Then where does the line get drawn?” Alex braced a hand on the back of the couch and leaned forward. He leaned in so close that his breath warmed her ear. “How interesting does this get?”

For a moment—okay, three—Sydney let herself enjoy the closeness. The heat pumping off him through the waffle-weave shirt onto her chest. The brush of his biceps against the back of her head. How their knees pressed together. It was all intimate and on the edge of…something. She just wasn’t sure what.

SNOW

As a young boy, abandoned by my parents and ripped apart from my twin sister, I learned early on that the world was full of evil and hate. I survived by living between the light and darkness, using my shifter abilities to stay alive…until one mistake should have cost me my life. Instead, it became my salvation and gave me a family and band of brothers who had my back no matter what.

The Dark Leopards MC was not a gang to be trifled with, and many gave us a wide birth, and as the Sergeant At Arms, I ensured that’s the way it stayed. But someone was trying to encroach on our territory and begin a war. I suspect the woman I saved, the woman whom I discover is my mate, is tied to it all somehow. I just have to figure out the puzzle before it’s too late.

VERITY

I was only trying to help a friend. The last thing I ever thought is that my friend would try to kidnap me, but thankfully someone or something saved me. Rushing to meet my roommate, Siam, I got another shock when the gang responsible for my brother’s death are her friends. I didn’t care if her brother had mesmerizing eyes or if I had a hard time not thinking about him. He was the enemy!

But even as my enemy, he may be my only chance to stay alive and learn the truth. And if Snow is the one protecting me in and out of bed, I wouldn’t complain too much.

**Previous published in Dark Leopards MC, Michigan Chapter, it has been expanded and contains new content.

I was on the verge of turning sixteen and needed some money. A thick billfold attached to a chain caught my attention. Easy pickings. Some shifters’ gifts could only be used while in their animal counterparts, but not mine. I had the ability to use mine both in animal and human form, and I took full advantage. It meant, if I wanted to, I could sleep with a roof over my head, and no one would be the wiser.

Ducking into an alley, I kept my eye on my target and stripped before activating my gift. I’d learned at ten that suddenly disappearing in front of anyone tended to make people freak out, and it was worse if you disappeared, but your clothes didn’t. In addition, no one wanted to see a kid strip down naked in the middle of the room so they could become invisible.

Stepping out of the alley, I noticed my target leaning against a big blue mailbox, scanning the area. Maybe he was looking for someone. Good. It meant his attention would be on whatever he was doing, and he was less likely to notice the disappearance of his wallet. He was making this too easy for me.

I moved closer and realized the man was a shifter, and my heart thudded. I swallowed hard, and it sounded loud in my ears. I inched my way toward him, slow and steady because I didn’t want him to realize I was there. There was always a higher level of danger when I stole from a shifter. However, it never stopped me.

His leather cut made me pause, but only for a second. This man was giving off a don’t fuck with me vibe, and I had the feeling many didn’t argue with him. I needed his wallet, though. Three more steps. The pounding pulse in my ears drowned out the sounds around me. This man was bad news. One more step. I could do this. I’d done it a million times, and this was no different than anyone else, except this guy could probably kill me. He had that look about him.

Reaching for his wallet, I noticed the back of his cut. FUCK ME! Not probably kill me. Definitely kill me. Dark Leopards MC was spelled out in bold letters along with their logo. I’d picked the wrong person to steal from…or had I? If I managed to get his fat wallet, not only would I have his money, I could have the satisfaction of knowing I’d stolen it from a patched member of the local badass MC.

Slowly and carefully, I detached the wallet from the chain and began to pull it out of his pocket, and then all hell broke loose. His large paw grabbed my wrist, squeezing hard, and I had to bite my lip to stop myself from crying out. It hurt like a motherfucker! How? How had he noticed me? He shouldn’t be able to see or smell me. I was completely invisible.

“Big mistake, boy,” he growled. See? Very naïve little shit.

I have never read a paranormal MC and why haven’t I?? Definitely going to be on the lookout for more in this series – hopefully just more than just Siam’s story because I need more!!

I was a little confused at first that Snow was a male and not a female. That definitely threw me. But once I read more, I was in! Snow and Verity are so interesting to read together. They are so great, each in their own way and I was totally sucked in!

I can’t wait for more and more of Siam. She intrigues me.

Older, sexy, off-limits.

And her new boss.

When the passion between them explodes, will her life blow up along with it?

“What is your problem?” I repeated my earlier question.

He didn’t waste any time getting to the point. “Did you want to go for a drink with him, Grace?”

“No!”

“He was standing awfully close.”

“And I was trying to step back when you showed up. In fact, I would have told him off before you rushed into save the day.”

“He kept looking at you during the meeting.”

I hadn’t noticed. All my attention was on Jaxson. “He can look all he wants. I’m not interested.”

He drummed his long fingers on the desk. I tried not to stare at them.

“It’s your outfit,” he announced.

“What the hell is wrong with my outfit?”

“It’s too damn sexy.”

I gaped at him. “It’s pants. I’m wearing pants, for god sake.”

“Your blouse. It’s indecent.”

I glanced down. Nothing was showing, my collarbone barely visible. The neckline was modest, the sleeves long, and I was wearing a shawl.

“You are being ridiculous. The lawyer, that Sabrina woman who came in here this morning, was showing more skin than I am.”

“Do not compare yourself to her.”

An irrational flash of jealousy hit me. “I’m out her league is what you’re saying?”

He glared. “Don’t push it.”

I threw up my hands. “I give up. Why don’t you write me a list of what I can wear, who I can talk to, and what I should think, Jaxson?”

“Don’t be stupid.”

“Stupid? This from the man who thinks wearing pants is overtly sexy.”

“They are,” he insisted.

“Don’t be an ass,” I hissed before I could stop myself. “You’re acting like an idiot.”

“You’re pushing my buttons.”

“Your buttons? You’re the one with the over the top reaction here. You’re being a jackass—again.”

“Fond of that word, are you?”

“It suits you.”

“Shrew,” he replied.

“What did you call me?”

“You heard me. You’re a shrew. I was trying to help you earlier.”

I was done with this insanity. The man was clearly deranged.

I stood. “For the record, he came over to me. I said no—twice. If you hadn’t shown up, I would have walked away or if I had to, pushed him away. I can take care of myself, Jaxson. My father taught me how to throw a punch if required, so I don’t need you to rescue me and I don’t appreciate your over reactions. My outfit is perfectly acceptable, and you are, in fact, a jackass.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes.” I drew in a deep breath. “In fact, if this is your way of talking, you can stuff it, Mr. Richards.”

I turned and headed to the door.

The next thing I knew, Jaxson was behind me, spinning me around and crowding me against the wall, his body hot and unyielding.

“Jesus,” he spat. “Gracie, you drive me crazy.”

“What?” I asked confused.

“I keep fucking this up.” He hung his head. “You get close and I lose all common sense. I do things I would never do—say things I shouldn’t.”

I stayed silent letting him ramble. I liked the way it felt with him pressed up against me. I could feel his strength and his anger. Both were addictive somehow and I wasn’t afraid of either. The irritation I had been feeling started to be replaced with a different sort of buzz. One of longing.

“Jesus,” he uttered. “I keep doing this. Last week spending time with you outside the office. Yesterday—kissing you in the car. Holding your hand. As your boss, I shouldn’t do any of that. Or pass judgment on your life. I didn’t intend that to happen. And today.” He groaned. “Seeing him beside you, chatting you up. I wanted to punch him in the face. What is it about you that messes up my head?”

I frowned. “I don’t understand.”

His intense blue eyes met mine. “I didn’t mean to start an argument, Grace—yesterday or today. You’re right, there is nothing wrong with your outfit. You’re beautiful. And yesterday my words were born of hating to think of you living in fear—of anything. I wanted to help. But I know it didn’t come across that way.”

His confession disarmed me.

“I apologize for both—my rudeness and my inappropriateness in the car yesterday.”

We were so close, I could feel every solid inch of him. His scent filled my head—citrusy, musky—heady. He was tense, his muscles bunching, his jaw working as our eyes locked and held.

“I liked the car,” I whispered, the words torn from me before I could stop them.

He rested his forehead to mine with a low groan. “Don’t tell me that, Gracie.”

His breath washed over me. Mint and coffee. I could taste it. Taste him. I wanted to taste more.

“I liked the way you told him off today. You made me feel protected.”

“Fuck,” he mumbled, his eyes locked on my mouth.

“I like how you feel this close to me.”

He groaned again, the sound low and desperate.

Exactly the way I was feeling.

“Jaxson,” I murmured.

“What are you doing to me?” he replied, sliding his hand along my shoulder and up my neck, cupping my cheek. “You make me want things I can’t have.”

“Like what?”

“Like feeling your lips underneath mine. Tasting your mouth. Knowing if the heat of it is as addictive as I think it would be.”

“Find out then.”

He crashed his lips to mine.

And I was lost.

A sexy, new brother’s best friend romance from USA Today bestselling author Alexa Padgett. He’s my brother’s childhood friend. I’m pregnant with another man’s baby. What a time to fall in love…  Coming home seemed like a good idea at the time. My ex-fiancé split, I was almost done with my master’s degree, and I was already working at the family architecture firm. When I move in next door to pediatrician Ryder Mackay, I’m not expecting the connection—or the passion in his eyes that I feel deep in my soul. He’s the best doctor for my baby, but he’s not the guy I need.  Still, the way Ryder looks snuggling my puppy—and my infant daughter—to his rock-hard chest makes me wish this sexy, smart, compassionate man was mine.  Maybe, it’s pregnancy hormones. Or…maybe this magnetic pull is forever.

When Raegan’s safety is threatened, I must fight to protect the only woman I’ve ever loved.

When had I lost my common sense? Whenever Raegan was around, that was when.

Years ago, my common sense fled around her because I was thinking with my dick. Now I had no idea why it took a hike around her.

It had been nice spending an evening with her at Cassie’s, but it fucked with my head. In my line of work, having my head fucked up wasn’t hazardous –it could be fatal.

A Hyundai Elantra pulled up in front of my house, the thudding bass audible even with the torrential rain.

“Goddammit,” I hissed.

I put my drink on the banister, reached inside the front door, and grabbed a golf umbrella. The wind had died down, so that was a relief. I trudged to the driver’s side door and opened the door.

“You’re gonna go deaf, as loud as you listen to your classic rock.”

She was leaned over the console, but she waved a hand at me in dismissal. “Save it, Clint. My hearing is perfectly fine. In fact, my hearing is why I’m here.”

I stood close to the car so she could get out without getting wet. “Come on, Mamá. Never know when the wind’s gonna pick up again.”

She glowered up at me but put her tiny umbrella aside. She straightened from the car, her handbag on the crook of her elbow. I threw her door closed, and she beeped the locks.

On the porch, I set the umbrella off to the side to drip dry. I turned to see Mamá scowling at my drink.

“So, it’s true. She’s back?”

There was no sense lying to Mamá. All of her children were transparent to her.

“She is, but—”

“But nothing. I hear Penny Connelly hopes you two will hit it off again.”

“There’s nothing to hit off again, Mamá. You shouldn’t have driven over here in this weather. Do you want to go in—”

She pointed a finger at me. “No. You know I just got off work, so I had to drive in the rain regardless. Plus, I was not going to have this conversation with you on the phone. You’re a grown man, Clint, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still protective. Do not let that woman do you wrong again.”

“Laura or Erica listen when you’re like this?”

She narrowed her eyes. “Don’t get logical on me, dear. Miracles happen, and one day the miracle will be one of my children listening to me. You can be my favorite son if you listen about this.”

I chuckled. “Ma, I’m your only son, and you love us all. None of us are your favorite.”

She arched a brow conceding the point.

A thought hit me and I canted my head at her. “How’d you find out Penny hopes we’ll hit it off again?”

A devious smile curled her lips. “I run a hair salon, Clint. Beauty might be my business, but I trade in gossip by the hour.”

I sighed because I damn sure knew that.

“You don’t cut Penny’s hair, though, and she doesn’t get out that often.”

She nodded. “Yes, but I know her stylist. And her stylist has the loosest lips.”

I looked out at the street. The rain had tapered off.

“So, what? You just here to lecture and run?”

“Of course. Rumor has it Erica is back with that no-good Carlos. So many lectures, so little time. I love you.”

I bent so she could kiss my cheeks. “Love you too, Mamá. I’ll walk you to your car.”

She waved me away. “Don’t bother. I won’t melt.”

“You raised me better than that. Let’s go.”

I stood on the sidewalk watching her car until she turned the corner, pleased to see she’d got her right turn signal fixed.

Sitting on the porch again, I smiled. It was good Mamá had dropped by, because regardless of my age, that was a lecture I needed to hear. Even though I heard every word she said, and I agreed with her; I wasn’t sure I could stay away from Raegan.
