Synopsis: He’s the man she loves to hate . . .

Olivia Kane’s wedding day has just imploded spectacularly. Shots lined up at the bar? Bring it. Hot stranger on the hook? Come on down. What this party does not need is six feet and change of home-grown Texas cockiness in the form of her brother’s best friend, the man who broke her heart seven years ago.

She’s the woman he has to have . . .

Flynn Cross won’t stand by while Liv finds sensual solace in the arms of a stranger, not when his own hard-for-her body is more than up for the task. For one week, he’ll make her honeymoon-for-one a sizzling party for two.

Breaking the rules, one steamy night at a time . . .

But the taboo they’re breaking is only the beginning . . . and Flynn’s part in Liv’s wedding debacle could bring about their end.

This is so much more than a little sister/brother’s best friend romance. Olivia is quick-witted and Flynn is just so uber cocky.
Olivia is having a horrible day; it’s her wedding and she’s just caught her husband-to-be banging the bridesmaid in the back closet. What’s a girl to do? She cancels the wedding and heads to the hotel bar to get drunk and pick up a one-night stand.
Flynn has not waited all these years and planned this much for Olivia to just spend it with some stranger to ease her hurt. He makes a deal with her; go on the honeymoon with him and use him as a week-long stand.
This week long stand was steamy, funny and eye-opening for Olivia. Especially when her brother shows up…
This book was such a great read! Olivia won’t take these events that happen to her lying down. She’s just so fierce!

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Abel Lockwood would do anything to become a father—including hiring a company that matches donor mothers with prospective fathers. Love Child caters to wealthy bachelors who’ve been unsuccessful in creating a family through traditional means. Despite Love Child being an unconventional route to take, the conception takes place exactly the way nature intended.

Nearing forty and still single, Abel has accepted he won’t meet the right woman to marry and have a family with, so Love Child is his last hope for becoming a father. He’s gone through the files of the potential donors and handpicked one perfect candidate to create his baby with.

The moment he comes face to face with Adeline Matthews, Abel knows she’s the one. But not just the one he’s hoping to make a baby with. She’s the one he’s hoping to create a family with.

AP new - excerpt.jpg

Giving a terse nod, her head twisted back around as she stood, moving toward my closet. “I’ll hang these up and give you some privacy.”

She was flustered. I could tell from the pitch of her hips and the tone of her voice. I loved how I already could sense her emotions. How I felt like I had the pad of my finger pressed into the pulse of her feelings.

“I don’t want privacy. Not from you, Adeline. The rest of the world, fine, but the last thing I want from you right now is for you to give me some privacy.”

Following her into my walk-in closet, I hovered in the doorway. She knew I was there, so she hung my suits and kept turned away.

“I wanted to take a shower first. I wanted to change into something different.” She pinched the hem of her dress, lifting it as she inspected it like it was subpar. “I wanted to get all ready for tonight, to be ready for you.”

My throat tightened at her words. “The woman standing in front of me right now is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. There is nothing you could do to be more beautiful than you are right now.”

She let the hem of her dress fall, inspecting her palms. Adeline’s hands were strong and had the calluses to prove it. To look at her, she was as fragile as a bird, but to know her, she was the strongest thing around. “I’m plain. Perfectly ordinary. You don’t have to try to convince me otherwise. I’m happy with who I am, but please don’t lie to me. You don’t have to tell me I’m beautiful to get me to sleep with you. I already agreed to that.”

How could she not see it? How did she not know? Moving closer, I fought the urge to wrap my arms around her and pull her to me. “I’m telling you that because it’s the truest thing I’ve ever known. Not because I’m lying to you or trying to get you to sleep with me or any reason other than because it’s the truth.” I let my hand slide around her waist.

She trembled but didn’t shy away. “I wanted tonight to be special.”

Unable to fight the urge to be near her, I stepped closer until my chest was pressing into her back. My perma-hard dick jutted between us, nudging her in the ass. She flinched, but instead of moving away, she moved closer until her soft, full backside was pressed into my crotch.

A ragged breath hissed from me when I felt the warmth of her skin through the material of her dress, heating my cock. “This is going to be special no matter how or where we do it, no matter what you’re wearing or not wearing. You’re giving me the gift of your virginity. That’s special.”

Sliding her hair behind her back, I lowered my mouth to her neck to taste it. She gave a little whimper when I sucked at the delicate skin. I knew I shouldn’t have, but damn, I couldn’t help putting my mark on her. She tasted just like I’d expected—sweet like cherries, with a hint of innocence.

“I’m about to put my baby inside of you,” I breathed against her. “That is the most fucking special thing in this whole world. Just relax, baby. This will be special. This will be perfect. Because I’m sharing it with you.”

She started breathing faster when my arm wound around her, securing her tiny body against mine. Her heavy chest spilled out above my arm, making my balls ache with what I’d built up just for her.

“I don’t know what I’m doing,” she whispered even as her ass started to wiggle up and down my length until her cheeks were essentially fucking me through her dress.

My hand curled into a fist, my teeth gritting as I forced myself to hold off. It would serve no purpose to cum all over her ass when I was trying to get her pregnant.

“I don’t think I’ll be very good at first. Just tell me what to do . . . show me what you need.” Her breathy voice, matched with her ass working me over, became too much. I had to step back to keep from losing it all over that pretty floral dress.

“Adeline, baby”—I twisted her around so I could look in her eyes—“you are perfect in every way. From the way you smile to the way you laugh to the way you’re going to fuck. Enough worrying. Just relax and let me take care of you.”

I LOVED the premise of this book!  It’s not often that the man wants a child so badly he is willing to find any way for that to happen.  Well at least not to meet any sort of will stipulations to have an heir.

Abel knows exactly what he’s looking for and that’s Adeline.  And strangely, without meeting each other, Adeline is just as certain of Abel.  But she can’t let Abel know that.  Abel is prepared to take care of Adeline and not just because she’s going to be the mother of his child…

I loved this quick read!  I read it before bed and it was a perfect length!

I LOVE THE WALSHES!!!!  You can’t read these books and not fall in love with each of them and their familial relationships.  They’re all quirky, in each others’ business but truly care about one another.  I always like stories with families like that.

You need to read Necessary Restorations first before this book so you can truly appreciate Sam and Tiel’s journey and relationship.  And it ties up any loose ends you felt were there after their story.

I want to go back and re-read the whole series just to get back into The Walshes and their craziness.  You can’t not read this book and not want to read the other books (or re-read if you have already) and just visit each sibling’s story and their relationships.

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people–be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane–ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

I’d always believed I wouldn’t be enough for “The” Louis Bruel. I remember Jenna telling me stories about Louis and his proclivities when she was trying to warn me off him. I was a little, stupid girl who fell in love with a fantasy. This day came ten years later than I’d initially anticipated. I am suddenly not Mrs. Emily Bruel, but once again, Emily Marcus. Out of high school, afraid of the future and wondering what life had in store for her. I am a nobody—a nobody and a fool.

“Emmy, can we talk this out? You’re starting to scare me. Emmy, honey, say something!”

“Jen, can you do me a favor?”

“I would do anything for you, you know that. Just say the word.”

“I need you to keep an eye on Rose and Eric for me.”

My sister looks confused. She wasn’t expecting this.

“You have a live-in nanny and a housekeeper. Why would I need to keep an eye on them?”

I take in a breath that feels like fire mixed with acid going down my chest.

“I’m going to go away for a little bit. I need to make sure you and Mom can be around for my babies while I’m gone. I need to know they’re getting love from family and not just the hired help.”

“Emmy, where are you going? And what’s ‘away for a little bit’ mean? I don’t know what’s going on. This is not like you. Can’t you just go talk to Louis? Let’s call him now.”

“Jenna, I didn’t tell you but we’ve been having some problems. It doesn’t affect you guys. I don’t want you to get involved. I know you care about him and he’s a big part of your business. What’s happening between us won’t affect any of that. I don’t know where I’m going or for how long yet. But I need to go. I have a lot on my mind. I need to try and make sense of my life. My world is about to change drastically. I need you to understand. Please make sure my kids are okay. Promise me?”

“Emmy, I promise I will take care of your kids, but you need to work this out with Louis and not take off somewhere.”

I nod, leave some money on the table, and walk out before I break down and die at The Plaza. In hindsight, my nightmare last night was just a pleasant interlude to the real nightmare that just manifested itself for me in full Technicolor.

I walk back to my so-called home in a haze. I don’t know how long it takes me to walk those few blocks to my house. Once I get to the front porch of my townhouse, I just stand there like a pedestrian admiring someone else’s beautiful real estate. I finally walk in. I go over to the playroom to see my blond-haired boy grin from ear to ear.

“Mommy, look what I made. It’s a hand puppet. We used Daddy’s sock and macawoni for eyes.”

“Eric, that’s very creative. Come here, my baby boy.”

        “Mommy, I’m not a baby. Wenée is a baby, I’m a man.”

“Who told you you’re a man?”

        “Daddy said I’m a man.”

I smile and the tears I’ve been holding back since I first saw Louis earlier come flowing down. Whatever happens to us, Louis Bruel loves his kids. He would never abandon them like he’s done to me.

“Mommy don’t cwy. I can be your baby if you want.” I take Eric in my arms and inhale his delicious scent. “Don’t cwy Mommy,” my beautiful, sweet boy repeats into my neck as I hold him close. At this moment, I know that if eleven years ago, someone with a crystal ball had shown up and told me that Louis would break my heart and destroy me, I would still do it all over again. I would still fall for him and love him and marry him. Even knowing it would all end and hurt for the rest of my life. I would do it all over again, just to have my kids.

“Where is Rose?” I ask Marni, the nanny.

“Rosy is watching a movie in her room.”

“Eric, Mommy is going on a trip tonight. I’ll be back soon. Promise Mommy you’ll be a good boy.”

        “Is Daddy going, too?”

“No, baby, just Mommy. Aunt JenJen and Nana Adele will come see you every day. Daddy will be home with you, too.”

That seems to make him happy. He smiles, showing off his cute little dimples. God, he’s beautiful, just like the man who made him.

I go to see my daughter upstairs. I walk up the stairs feeling like a stranger in my own house.

“Hi, Mama, I love camp so much better this year. Almost all the same kids as last year. I was picked first for the dance off group today. And do you know what Jake said to me at lunch today?”

        “What did he say?”

Without missing a beat, she answers, “He said he wants to kiss me. Eewww, Mama, he is so gross. I would never kiss him.”

        “Good, no kissing boys.”

Rose and Eric are both blond like me with different variations of my eye color. They have Louis’ features, though; hence, you can’t mistake who their father is.

“Listen, my love, I wanted to talk to you about something. I’m going away for a little while. I don’t have all the details yet. I just know that it’s very important that I go. Aunt Jenna and Grandpa and Nana will all be here for you and Eric. Daddy will also be here.”

Rose looks at me, seeing right through my pain. I’m afraid she sees how scared and lost I am. I try as hard as I can to channel all my bravery, to make us both believe that I am a strong woman and not a hot mess.

“Mama, are you okay? Do you want me to come with you?”

“Thank you, baby. I need you to be my big girl and help with Eric.”

“Why isn’t Daddy coming with you? Are you mad at him?”

“Baby, Daddy is very busy. I love you all more than anything and I will come back as soon as I can.”

I hug and kiss my sweet little child. I remember me and Louis bringing her home from the hospital when she was just born, and here we are, discussing kissing boys, and Louis is leaving me for someone else.

If I could call Sara right now, I would say to her, “Simply Red, ‘Holding Back The Years,’” or maybe I’d say, “Cher, ‘If I Could Turn Back Time,’” or better yet, I wouldn’t say anything at all…

Excerpt

“You in there or what?” Josh nudges me with his hip. His finger rises up to tap me on my temple, startling me out of my slumber. I stumble forward, damn near tripping over a guitar case that’s sitting on the edge of the sidewalk. I should be paying attention to where I’m going. There are many people here singing and offering up some sort of trick for money up and down this strip. Only the ones who can carry a tune catch my wandering eye for more than a second. Not that they all don’t deserve my attention, but the people who sing have a raw, natural talent. I become lost in their voices. Attuned. Familiar. There’s no sweet, tender, or rough and seductive voice close by. Therefore, whoever owns this particular case isn’t singing, or otherwise I may have pulled Josh to a sudden stop to listen before tumbling over it like an idiot. “Shit. Sorry about that,” I tell the man I notice standing up against the brick wall without looking at him. This is what I get for thinking about things I shouldn’t. “It was my fault,” Josh comments as we both bend down to shove the few dollar bills that fell out back into the case. The man behind us just mumbles something incoherent. I instantly feel worse for some reason. He’s worked hard for this money. In the heat no less. And here I am, scrounging around to make sure I gather it all up while assholes walk around me not giving a shit there are two people squatted down on the sidewalk. They just step around us, not bothering to offer help. Insensitive assholes. I reach into my purse and toss a hundred-dollar bill inside the case. I know most of these people spend their money on booze and drugs. I don’t care. Well, I do, really. They should be using it wisely. But who am I to judge? I only wish I could have heard him sing before we walk away. The talent they have is remarkable. It’s sad, really, how I enjoy listening to them sing on these streets for food, a home, or more than likely a fix of alcohol or drugs. I can’t help it; those voices carry me away. Some of them are truly mesmerizing. Wasted talent on a dirty street. I’m sure some are runaways with dreams shattered and hopes burned. This is the only way they know how to survive. The Hollywood record producers should listen to some of these talented people instead of shoving their lying butts into the faces of the fake boob Barbie to either get in her pants or rake her back over hot coals, sucking as much money out of her as they can. If only the rich would seek out the poor. To lend a hand to those who only think life has fed them nothing but shit. For these people to see that no matter how bad your life has been, if given the chance or a choice, you can become whoever you want to be, even if you’re alone doing it. I turn to the man whose face is darkened by the way he stands. His face is completely out of my sight with his chin tugged down to where it’s almost touching his chest. One black, shiny-booted foot rests up against the wall. His jeans hang low. He’s wearing a faded gray t-shirt that, if I’m correct, was black at one time. It also looks way too small, because my god, is it tight across his massive chest. He has shoulders any woman would love to reach around and grab as he lies on top of her. I’d give anything to see his face. To hear him sing. To observe and dissect his talent.

Reading this book just mad me want to reach in, hug Kray and smack some self confidence in him. His parents really did a number on his self esteem as a kid and the 13 years since haven’t changed it.

Purely by chance, Rori shows up in Las Vegas where Kray is living now. Rori is the woman he left behind that he has never forgotten about.

Rori is a less than emotional woman since Kray left. He left and took her heart with him. Rori runs into Kray and while she hates him, she still loves him.

This story was a good read that makes you believe in fate and second chance love!

4.5 stars!

Blog Tour ~ Underwater ~ by ~ Maayan Nahmani

Title: Underwater
Author: Maayan Nahmani
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 26, 2016

In an instant, my world turned upside down

Because of one incident, my life will never be the same

Every day I struggled to breathe

Every day I went through the motions

I felt too much

I was numb

I was drowning

I was lost inside the black

So they made me go there

I was already there, watching from the dark

And then I met him

And then I saw her

He scared me to death

She took my breath away

He was darkness

She was my light

They whispered he can’t be touched

She was the only one I could touch

I couldn’t be with him, they needed me

I fucking needed her

So I told him I would be his friend

I told her I would be her friend. For now.

But I couldn’t resist him for long

She finally realized that she’ll always be mine

We were a hot mess

We were the perfect kind of mess

Then reality dawned on me

Then my demons broke loose

I was underwater, trying to break through to the surface

I reached out my hand, trying to pull her to shore

Could he really help me?

Would she accept me, scars and all?

This was us

This was our storyAuthor’s Note:

“This book is based on true events and contains sensitive subjects that may be a trigger to some readers, such as violence, abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder. It also contains a parent with cancer. It is recommended for ages 18 and up.” Safe. No cheating/OW.

“Aria?”
My body tensed, as I watched the motherfucker who’d touched her coming our way.
“Oh, hey Brian.”
His tall frame loomed over her while he stood with his hands inside his front pockets. He was built, and if I were a chick, I would probably think he looked decent. He had curly blond hair, blue eyes and tan skin. He looked like a freaking copy of a Ken-doll. Fucking cliché. I hated him already.
“We’re all going to have a drink at a nearby bar. You wanna come?”
I didn’t want her to go anywhere with him, but if she decided to go there was nothing I could do about it. All I could do was bite my tongue and pray she would say no.
“That’s sweet of you, Brian, but I can’t today. I’m sorry.”
“Oh, yeah… sure. Maybe some other time?”
He looked disappointed, yet hopeful she would say yes.
Did I mention I hated this fucker?
“Yeah, maybe,” she mumbled.
He smiled, nodded, and turned around, leaving with the rest of the group waiting for him.
“Fucker,” I said under my breath.
“What?”
Shit. “Um… nothing.”
She looked at me with questioning eyes. ”What’s going on?”
I sighed. “Don’t date him.” The words tumbled out of my mouth without permission. I winced, knowing I sounded like a fucking mental case.
“Whoa… who said I was going to date him? He was just being friendly.”
I laughed humorlessly. “That guy doesn’t have one friendly thought about you. I can promise you that.”
I didn’t have friendly thoughts about her either. But right now, the thought of her with him – or anyone else for that matter – made my blood boil.
She shook her head. “You’re overreacting, but alright, I won’t date him. Geez… happy?”
“No,” I growled.
“What?” She sounded annoyed.
I didn’t care. I was on a roll. My hands settled on either side of her chair, caging her in. “I don’t want you to date anyone else.”
“Excuse me?”
Fuck. This was not going well.
“I need you to promise me that you won’t date someone else. I said I would be your friend, and I will. But you need to know…” My head inched closer until I was in her face. “I want more. I want you. I promise I’ll wait for you until you’re ready for me. But please…” I pleaded. I fucking begged, “Don’t date other people. I couldn’t bear it.”
I am twenty-six years old and I live in a small town in Israel.
My family and I were going through some difficult times not too long ago and one day I was confiding in my best-friend about everything. I didn’t know how to deal with it all. Then she suggested I should write a book about it. I looked at her as if she had grown another head and dismissed the idea on the spot. But the seed had been planted, and day after day, little by little, without realizing it – I started writing.
That’s how Underwater was born.
I found writing to be cathartic, healing.  Something that helped my mind unwind and put things in perspective. I discovered a magical world where I traveled between imagination and reality. Writing became my home and I never wanted to leave.
I love to read, write, listen to music, edit videos, and play the guitar. I am always looking for the next creative thing. I also like a good movie and a glass of wine.

“A rock star with no rhythm is a man with no soul.” – Stone Lockhart

As the lead singer of one of the hottest bands to hit the rock scene, fucks are free, drugs come easy, and music is life.

For as long as Stone can remember, Willow has been his music – the notes that weave his soul together.

His rhythm.

Until he threw her away.

All he has left is a handful of pills and a few lines of powder to make him forget her.

And he tries, over and over.

Clean and ready to make things right, he’s faced with the fact that Willow’s moved on. She’s not the same girl he cast aside. Willow’s a woman sure about her purpose in life. Sure about who she’s meant to love.

Stone may be lost without his rhythm, but Willow has found so much more.

Excerpt

Willow isn’t a performer. She’s too honest and pure for that. She plays and sings with her heart. If she’s mad, she sings angry shit. Happy, she smiles throughout the whole damn song making you smile too. But I know the moment I hear the chords of “Over,” this set she’s working on is all me. She can’t see me in the corner here, but she sings for me nonetheless, and I feel every fucking word. Every last note as she pours her heart out. This is a Willow that was always reserved for me. She never wanted to be in the spotlight. We begged her to be in the band and not just help write the music, but she said no, over and over. But when it was just her and I, this was the Birdie I got. We would play for each other for hours, late into the night, sometimes it would lead to us fucking, and other times it was because we had just finished, our bodies sated, but our souls still full of passion and adrenaline. A naked Wills wearing nothing but a guitar is the most beautiful fucking sight in the world and just thinking about it now makes me hard.

“Stone? Babe? Wake up, I can’t sleep.” I can hear her but can’t make my eyes open to see her. The bed shifts and then dips. Willow straddling my lap has my eyes opening slowly, blinking the sleep away. I suck in a breath when I can finally focus. My beautiful Birdie is sitting astride me, completely naked except for her brand new custom Martin. Her fingers lovingly stroking over the fret board. “I wrote you a new song,” she whispers excitedly. Peering up at her, I can see the excitement on her face, the love in her whiskey-colored eyes. As she starts playing I shift. My bottom lip clamped between my teeth I gently tug the sheet lower down my legs inconspicuously. She begins singing and I feel a lightness wash over me. Her words like a balm on my now overly heated skin. Every time she opens her mouth, beauty pours from it, and I have the urge to fill her. Fill her any way that I can so that I can touch that music. Be her music the way she’s mine. Entranced, I watch as Willow falls into her zone, eyes closed, face intense in its peacefulness. As she hits the bridge, her voice raising an octave, I slip inside her. Pussy wet, always so wet when she gets like this, I thrust. Her eyes don’t open, but she softens, all of her relaxing into me. When I begin rocking back and forth, slowly, rhythmically in sync with the chords she plays, she falters for a beat. Gradually her eyes open, landing on mine just long enough for me to see all the love from moments ago turned to lust and a deep, needy want. She’s close. Thank fuck.

Careful to not bump the guitar, I slide my thumb to her clit and play her, same as she plays her Martin. Silently we make music together as her song envelopes us, breathier than before. I join in on the chorus, my raspy voice melding with hers as I fuck her, pushing us both over the edge.

Blissed out and with hands on her thighs, I smile wickedly, “Sing it for me again, Wills.”

I’m brought from my thoughts when Law elbows me. “Where’d you go, bro? You okay?” he whispers just as the song finishes and she takes a moment to sip from her mug. I’d bet money it was tea. She always drank tea to soothe her throat when she was serious about a session or we had a lot to work out in the studio.

“Yeah, man. Just thinking about Wills.” Shrugging sheepishly, I glance over at him before letting my gaze settle back on Willow. “I haven’t had to share her like this in forever, not even with you guys really. Not like this.” My voice is pitched low so that it doesn’t travel. “It’s fucking with my head a little. There’s never been a time that she wasn’t mine and that music wasn’t ours. Ya know?”

TBRreview

I should know by now that Mandi Beck books are an experience. It’s not just a quick simple love story; there are layers, dimensions, twists and turns. Stoned has those, that’s for sure!

Stone is a rock star living the life of a rock star, even when he has a girlfriend on the road with him. She finally gets tired of his shenanigans and leaves. Stone is so out of it that 8 months later, after the tour has ended, he is surprised that Willow is nowhere to be found in their house. Her phone is disconnected and he has no way to get in touch with her.

Willow has had enough. She has stood by Stone’s side while he’s been building his career and fan base. She can’t play second string to his “rock star” ways any more. So she leaves. And makes sure he can’t find her.

I’m not going in to all the events that happen because this review would be NOVEL length if I did that. Just suffice it to say LOTS of twists and turns happen on the way to Stone’s sobriety and finding Willow.

And Stone’s lyrics and words, once he’s sober, are just amazing. You can see the true artist in him with how he words things and calls Willow his rhythm.

I definitely want more of this band of crazy guys! I can just see all the troubles Ro, Judge and Law get in to.

5 stars!

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Being the only woman working for a professional baseball team isn’t easy. As the San Diego Shock’s newest athletic trainer, Allie knows all about long hours, endless travel, and warding off players’ advances. Given she’s already the subject of a handful of rumors about how “lucky” she was to have earned such a coveted position, she can’t so much as flutter an eyelash a player’s way if she wants to be taken seriously.

But number eleven is doing more than fluttering eyelashes Allie’s way. Far more. Luke Archer is at the top of his game and doesn’t let the fear of striking out keep him from swinging. This is a motto he applies both on and off the field, but Allie appears immune, seeming to view Luke as nothing more than caution tape on legs.

He’s a player, and in Allie’s experience, they’re all the same. She won’t risk her job or her heart to another one, no matter how different this one claims to be. But as Allie gets to know him, she discovers the number eleven the public thinks they know is very different from the real Luke Archer. He seems too good to be true.

And maybe he is.

Allie will have to confront the stories attached to a player of Luke Archer’s stature and decide who she’ll put her faith in—The man she’s falling for? Or the rumors?

AP new - excerpt.jpg

“Shouldn’t you buy me dinner first or something?” Archer smirked at me when he lifted up onto his elbows as I tugged his sweats down his legs.

“Tell you what,” I replied after I gave one last pull, freeing the dark gray sweats from him. After handing him a towel, I waited for him to drape it over his lap. Instead he curled it up and tossed it across the hotel room. “How about I draw you a nice, soothing, relaxing bath? Full of ice.”

As I came around the side of his bed, it took all of my concentration to focus on the compress I needed to unwrap instead of what was resting just a little higher. At least he had underwear on, but it wasn’t like they provided much coverage. Especially when what was tucked inside them looked about ready to burst free.

And dammit. I’d looked. From the way I could feel him watching me, he knew I’d looked too.

“Another ice bath. Sounds perfect. Since my balls aren’t already blue enough.” Archer spread his legs open farther as I reached down to unwind the compress circling his upper right thigh.

“Yeah, well, that’s what you get for not listening to the recommendation of your athletic trainer to take it easy.” I unwound the bandage slowly, not wanting to further inflame the area. “Every three hours, we’ll alternate fifteen minutes of ice and heat.”

“Yay.” He cleared his throat when my fingers brushed his inner thigh as I unwound the last of the compress Shepherd had wrapped back in the locker room after his first ice bath. “Since you got to decide on the ice option, how about I decide on the heat option?”

From the low notes in his voice, I knew exactly what he meant. “The plan is to calm the tear. Not further aggravate it.”

“Okay. I can work with that.” When I exhaled, he added, “I’ve got ideas.”

“Ideas that involve what you have in mind and not using your groin muscles?” My gaze wandered back to that part of his anatomy. Right before moving onto a different part of it. Holy shit. Something about knowing he wanted me and wasn’t concerned with hiding that desire made me dizzy. “Good luck with that.”

Archer watched me as I disappeared into the bathroom to turn off the water filling the tub. “Never underestimate the ingenuity of a desperate man.”

After testing the temperature of the bath, I grabbed one more bag of ice and dumped it in. I’d arranged to have four new bags arrive every few hours through the night so I could mitigate the damage Archer’s pulled groin muscle would have on his season.

The team doctor had done an exam in the locker room and assured Coach Beckett that with aggressive care these first twenty-four hours, Archer should be able to play the game in New Orleans three days from now.

From my own exam, I knew the doctor was giving Coach a serious case of lip service. The only way Archer would be able to play the Shock’s next game was if we injected him with every illegal substance in this sport and on the market in general. It was a class two pull—no amount of walking off would fix this in a couple days’ time.

“Are you hungry, Doc?” Archer called from the other room.

“That depends on the context of that question.”

His laugh carried into the bathroom. “You know me too well. However, in this instance, I’m referring to hunger as in for food. The room service type specifically. I can order something for us so we can eat once you’re done cryogenically freezing my gonads.”

Wandering back into his room, I dried off my hands with a towel. “Hey, this isn’t my fault—I warned you to take it easy.”

I ceremoniously waved my arms toward the bathroom, feeling nervous. I’d given so many ice baths I could have filled an entire ocean with them, but this one was different. It was for Luke Archer. In his hotel room instead of the locker room. Plus, back there, the entire coaching and medical staff had been present, pow-wowing a plan of treatment. No one else was here now though.

Just me. Just him. And a locked door.

“Dinner?” Archer waved the room service menu at me.

“I’ll order it for us. We need to get you in the tub before you get any more swollen.”

Archer’s gaze swept down his body, landing on the very part of him I was trying not to inspect. “I can think of something to help with the ‘swelling.’”

Crossing my arms, I gave him an unfazed look. “I’m here to see to your leg. Not your dick.”

“I think that by taking care of one, you’ll be taking care of the other.”

“True. Ice baths are up to the task of tending to torn muscles and swollen dicks. So let’s get started.”

Archer lay stretched out in bed for another minute, calling my bluff, but when I made no move to throw myself at him, he sighed. “The ice bath it is.”

“Good choice.”
