He lives in L.A when he’s not traveling the world. I live in Utah, and the furthest I’ve been is a few states away. He’s beautiful. I’m . . . just me. Talbot Green is the man who has everything—fame, money, adoring fans—and I’m just a girl from a small town, childhood friends with his publicist, and looking forward to spending a few days in warm and sunny California. Then I saved his life. In front of the paparazzi. And suddenly, my face is everywhere—on social media, on TV, on magazine covers. Suddenly, I’m not just a girl from a small town, who’s living a small life. Suddenly . . . I belong to Talbot Green, at least in the eyes of the media. And also . . . perhaps in the eyes of Talbot himself. But maybe, just maybe, he belonged to me right back.

He’s the security expert her overprotective father hired.

She’s the headstrong former prosecutor tempting him to break all his rules.
Together they have chemistry hotter than the Florida sun.
It was the worst day of Ava Barton’s life. She’d been fired from the US Attorney’s office in Miami and learned there might be a contract on her life. The police and the FBI can’t protect her from “might,” so she begrudgingly takes refuge behind the walls of her parents’ oceanfront estate in Palm Beach.
Jackson King protects the rich and famous while they play in the Florida sunshine. When the powerful Barton family needs a bodyguard for their daughter, he steps up to take the job. But the platonic working relationship Jackson expects goes off the rails. And, against his better judgment, he wants Ava as more than a client.
When Ava’s life is at risk, Jackson’s need to claim her as his own threatens to boil over. Can he ignore his desires until the authorities catch the person behind the dangerous attacks? Or will her family send him packing?
This book has a sun-kissed ex-military bodyguard with an adorable dog and a workaholic heroine with an unpredictable temper. Action. Danger. Humor. Steam. And a storybook-worthy happily ever after.

Palm Beach Bodyguard can be enjoyed as a standalone but it is book three of the Protecting Love series.

“Zombies or bullseyes?” Jackson asked while poking the flags into the barrels of the two weapons on the table.

“I don’t understand?”

He held up two paper targets. One was a typical bullseye with rings and crosshairs. The other was a picture of a killer zombie with targets over its head and chest.

Laughing, Ava pointed at the zombie, of course. If she was doing this, she might as well get ready for the apocalypse. The high pitch of her laughter made her realize how tense she was. The strange environment had her so far outside her comfort zone she couldn’t even see it anymore. She wiped her sweaty palms on her jeans and let out a big exhale.

“Most important,” Jackson said. “One, never put your finger on the trigger unless you’re ready to shoot. And two, never point the gun anywhere but downrange. Got it?”

Whatever else he told her today might get jumbled in her head, but she would never forget those two rules.

He looked the smaller gun over and offered it to her. He held it down and away from them, handling it as if it were loaded. “It’s empty. This is a .22-caliber revolver. Smaller gun, easy to handle, good place to start.”

Again, she dried her palms on her jeans before she wrapped her right hand around the grip on the revolver, mimicking Jackson’s careful handling. When he let go, she almost dropped the gun. It was heavy, really heavy. She was careful to keep it pointed downrange as she got accustomed to the feel of it in her hand. Her heart was beating faster, and she had to bite her lips to contain a nervous giggle.

Jackson had strung up one of the ridiculous zombie paper targets and sent it downrange about ten yards.

Next thing she knew, he’d stepped up behind her. His chest grazed her back. “Lift your arms. Two hands on the gun.” He cupped her hands in his, tightening her grip on the gun. His warm breath tickled the hairs on the back of her neck. An image from last night’s fantasy popped unbidden into her mind: his hands spreading her thighs.

One of his hands skimmed down her arm to turn her hips square to the target. “Feet just less than shoulders width apart.”

Her nipples hardened against the smooth satin of her bra. She took a calming breath, and her lungs filled with Jackson’s unique smell. The scent of a day spent on the ocean. Tangy salt air, sunscreen, and cool breezes. The scent matched his golden tan and sun-streaked hair.

His hand stayed on her hip, searing through the lightweight sweater she wore.

“Good,” he said. His freshly shaven cheek brushed against her temple. She had the overwhelming urge to lean back and rub against the gorgeous chest she’d admired all morning in the gym.

She’d lost her mind. This wasn’t the time to think sexy thoughts about her hunky bodyguard.

“Now curve your index finger around the trigger. You’re going to try a dry fire to get a feel for the trigger.” His other hand fell to her hip.

She refocused on the gun, trying to keep it steady. And she pulled the surprisingly stiff trigger back. A click sounded, and she removed her finger from the trigger. “Like that?”

“Yep, try it a few more times.”

She focused on the trigger and tried to ignore the feeling of Jackson leaning closer. She shifted her hips, frustrated there was no way to rub her thighs together while standing in proper firing position. Her ass grazed his crotch, and he inhaled sharply.

Behind her, he cleared his throat and stepped back. “Ah, put it on the table, and I’ll show you how to load it next.” His voice was deep and extra husky. She wasn’t the only one feeling something. She set the gun down and reminded herself again this was a working relationship—not a first date.

Loading was pretty simple. She got comfortable with that quickly, and Jackson reminded her of the rules and etiquette for the range while he had her load and unload the gun a few times. Now that it was time to shoot, he told her to remove the little flag from the end of the barrel.

“Ready for the real thing?” He waved her to the front of their station and pulled on his earmuffs.

The silly zombie waved in the breeze, ten yards in front of her. No problem. Eyes stay open, look at the target, squeeze trigger. She pulled down her earmuffs, adjusted her eye protection, and got in firing position.

Bang!

“Holy shit!” She’d done it.

That was a lot more everything. Louder, more kick, and way more exhilarating than she’d have ever guessed. Her fast breathing and racing pulse echoed in her head thanks to the earmuffs.

Jackson’s hand curved around her shoulder, and he lifted one side of her earmuffs. “Nice shooting.”

She scanned the target; her bullet had nipped the zombie’s left hand. Hmm, she wasn’t going to survive the apocalypse if that was the best she could do. Five shots later she finally managed to tag the ghoul mid-chest. Unfortunately, she’d been aiming for his brain.

“Okay, reload, and let’s try again.”

Jackson ran through pointers on aiming and breathing. He was as excited to teach her as she was to learn. That zombie was going down!

She took up her stance and waited for the range officer to announce the range was hot again. The first shot went wide, but number two, bullseye! Dead center in her zombie’s gooey green brain. Empowered? Hell yeah, she felt empowered. Her dad was a genius.

Jackson’s whoop of triumph was loud enough for her to hear through the earmuffs. Smiling, she squeezed off the rest of her rounds. Her hands shook a little when she set the gun down. She’d done it. Ava 1 – Zombies 0.

Jackson pulled in the target and unclipped it from the cardboard backer. “Souvenir?”

She eagerly took the tattered paper target and carefully folded it before sliding it into her back pocket.

A few more rounds and a few more dead zombies and her trembling arms were ready to let Jackson take a turn firing his larger 9mm semi-automatic. She stood back, admiring the scene. And what a scene it was. He handled the weapon with confidence. Sexy man doing sexy things. And the visual of his hands wrapped around the cold black steel… She shook her head to clear out the inappropriate thoughts.

Afterward, Jackson put away their equipment while she swept up their spent shell casings.

“You did good,” he said.

“Yeah, I did. When are we coming back?”

Laughing, Jackson directed her to head for the Bronco. “Come on, Lady Rambo, let’s go find some lunch.”

Hello. I’m Britney.

I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, children, a dog named Gatsby, one ridiculous cat, and a partridge in a pear tree.

When I’m not wrangling the things mentioned above, I write psychological, domestic, and romantic thrillers set in suburbia.

Currently, I’m writing three series and several standalone novels.

The Bedrock Series features an unlikely heroine who should have known better. Turns out, she didn’t. Thus she finds herself tangled in a messy, dangerous, forbidden love story and face-to-face with a madman hell-bent on revenge. The series has been compared to Fatal Attraction, Single White Female, and Basic Instinct.

The Water Series follows the shady love story of an unconventional married couple—he’s an assassin—she kills for fun. It has been compared to a crazier book version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Also, Dexter.

Around The Bend is a heart-pounding standalone, which traces the journey of a well-to-do suburban housewife, and her life as it unravels, thanks to the secrets she keeps. If she were the only one with things she wanted to keep hidden, then maybe it wouldn’t have turned out so bad. But she wasn’t.

The With You Series at its core is a deep love story about unlikely friends who travel the world; trying to find themselves, together and apart. Packed with drama and adventure along with a heavy dose of suspense, it has been compared to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Love, Rosie.

The Social Affair
is an intense standalone about a timeless couple who find themselves with a secret admirer they hadn’t bargained for. For fans of the anti-heroine and stories told in unorthodox ways, the novel explores what can happen when privacy is traded for convenience.

It is reminiscent of films such as One Hour Photo and Play Misty For Me. Classics. Without a doubt, connecting with readers is the best part of this gig. If you’d like to connect, shoot me an email. You can also find me on FacebookInstagram, and occasionally on Twitter.

I loved the “Wicked Series” but the “The Theory Of Earls” (don’t you just love this title) is my favorite so far.” – MiaBurke54, Bookbub Reviewer “I am absolutely enamored with this book! It has a breathtaking romance, characters with sizzling chemistry, and a dialogue that is so clever and witty…” – Catherine, Goodreads Reviewer
Blurb

Lady Andromeda Barrington is the most unsuitable young lady in London.

At least in the Duke of Granby’s opinion. Granby doesn’t care for bastard relatives or tainted pedigrees and Andromeda possesses both. Nor does he like opinionated young ladies who enjoy hurling insults in his direction. Andromeda is, in short, the most annoying creature he’s ever met. When she arrives, uninvited, to a house party given at his estate, Granby can’t decide whether to kiss Andromeda senseless or send her packing. Andromeda is the victim of infatuation and bad luck. The infatuation is that of her sister for the Earl of Blythe, but the misfortune belongs solely to Andromeda after she is forced to attend a house party hosted by the Duke of Granby. She and the duke are previously, unpleasantly, acquainted. The entire party is bound to be awkward, and their mutual dislike difficult to hide. Her only recourse is to avoid the giant block of ice masquerading as a duke. Thankfully, Granby’s estate is enormous. But instead of mutual hostility upon arriving, Romy is greeted with unexpected attraction. Insults turn into flirtation. Heated discussions become lingering kisses. Her heart is ruined. Granby may not even have one. And the duke has already chosen another young lady to be his duchess. The Design of Dukes is a steamy historical romance with a guaranteed happily ever after and next in the series The Beautiful Barringtons.

“Were you sketching Granby’s backside?” Blythe laughed out from between his gloved fingers, clearly finding the situation amusing. “I suppose there’s a first time for everything.”

Heat stung her cheeks at Blythe’s scandalous statement. “I was absolutely not, my lord.” “Could you find nothing else more worthy of your talent?” Blythe’s tone turned flirtatious. “Mine, perhaps?” Blythe turned sideways and wiggled his hips. Blythe was a shameless rogue. Though Romy had to admit upon inspection, Blythe’s backside, like the rest of him, was rather magnificent. Granby’s eyes fluttered shut, head shaking as if Blythe continuously tried his limited patience, before once again fixing Romy with a frosty glare. “I was sketching Miss Cummings’s costume,” Romy waved in the direction of the young lady who was now wandering off, oblivious to the fact her gown had been the cause of Romy’s current situation. “And eavesdropping.” Granby’s snarl met her ears. “Who knows what else you were sketching,” Blythe said mischievously. “I’d like to take a look.” She immediately hid her notebook within the folds of her skirts. “I’m not certain,” Romy snapped back, embarrassed to having been caught looking at Granby and having Blythe take notice, “there was anything of merit for me to overhear. If you must know—” “Oh, I must.” Granby drawled. “If you must know,” she imitated in a mockery of Granby, “I was struck dumb at the sight of the duke’s coat.” “My coat?” The dark eyes narrowed blasting her with dislike. “Yes, Your Grace.” She nodded as if truly at odds with what she was about to relay to him. “I noticed the length is incorrect. Two inches longer would be much more in line with what is deemed fashionable.” Granby’s massive shoulders stiffened. One gloved hand tugged at his collar though she hadn’t said a word about his cravat. Yet. “She may have a point, Gran,” Blythe added helpfully looking between his coat and Granby’s. “I think I mentioned—” “I do not,” Granby interrupted Blythe, all his attention firmly on Romy, “take fashion advice from a woman who has the poor sense to come to a party dressed as a shrub.” Romy sucked in her breath. Her costume was lovely. She was a dryad. A tree nymph. It was true that very few saw the vision of her costume today, guessing somewhat correctly she was a tree of some sort but she certainly, emphatically, did not look like a shrub. Granby himself was a mountain masquerading as a duke. “I am a tree nymph, Your Grace.” Romy stated with determination. “I beg to differ.” The dark eyes ran down her body. “You look like a shrub. All you need is a bit of red and I’d mistake you for a holly.”

Blog Tour ~ Oops, I’ve Fallen ~ by ~ Max Monroe

Oops, I’ve Fallen, an all-new laugh out loud romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe is available now!

If my time with Ryan Miller were a hit track on the radio, I imagine the lyrics would go something like this…

“We’re so different, but they say opposites attract. Oops, I’ve fallen, and my heart doesn’t want to come back.”

But, holy bingo night, is my attraction to the sexy, broody businessman so much more complicated than the chorus of a song.

His dad lives right next to my mom, and after the two of them suffered an unexplained accident while taking down holiday decorations, both Ryan and I were forced to become the only thirtysomething residents of Sunny Creek Village Independent Senior Living Community.

Temporarily moving in might seem like overkill for a fractured tailbone and a severely pulled groin muscle, but believe me, when your mom is as wild as mine and your dad is as cantankerous as Ryan’s, they need supervision to ensure they stick to doctor’s orders.

Constantly thrown together by the antics of our crazy parents and the tough-as-nails community enforcer, Betty Matthews, Ryan and I formed an alliance for the sole purpose of survival.

But I never expected to be so interested in finding out what he was hiding beneath his grumpy, serious demeanor. More than that, I never dreamed what I found would be the kind of man women sell their souls to the devil for.

Unfortunately, our little one-hit wonder on the airwaves has more to say before it comes to an end.

Although, finishing the outro to this song is a real doozy…

Tell me…what lyric rhymes with Oops, I’ve fallen for my future stepbrother?

RYAN          Incoming Call Dad. I’m tempted not to answer—very tempted, actually—but I do anyway. There’s a chance he needs me, given the circumstances of my visit in the first place, and I don’t want to leave him hanging. “Hey, Dad.” “Where are you?” “Baggage claim.” “Baggage claim where?” “Tampa.” “What the hell, Ryan?” he bellows, making me close my eyes against the speech I know is coming. “I told you I’m good. You didn’t need to come here.” “Yeah, well, your nurse said otherwise.” “My nurse?” he questions. “Who? That old woman Jessica?” “Old woman?” I retort on a laugh. “She was younger than you, Dad. By about twenty years.” I had the pleasure of speaking to my dad’s nurse Jessica on FaceTime last night when I got a call that he had taken some sort of strange fall and had been escorted to the hospital in an ambulance. “Whatever. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.” “Actually, she does,” I correct. “And so does your doctor, who also recommended that I come down and help you out while you’re recovering.” “Recovering.” He scoffs. “You’d think I had a heart attack or some shit. I pulled a muscle in my damn balls.” I shut my eyes briefly. “Groin muscle, Dad. You pulled your groin muscle.” “Same difference.” I want to explain to him there’s a big difference, but in the name of not driving myself insane—or drawing the attention of everyone around me—I bite my tongue. “Go home.” “Too late for that. I’m already here,” I answer on a chuckle and step up to the carousel to snag my black duffel from it. He groans. “You’re my least favorite kid sometimes.” I shake my head. “I’m your only kid, Dad.” “Yeah, and I like you the least right now.” I snort. Sal Miller is a seriously complex mix of blunt honesty, overwhelming affection, and way too much testosterone for a seventy-five-year-old man. The good news is that when he sounds like he’s being an asshole, I still know that behind all the flashy insults, he loves me. “Hey, Dad?” “What?” “I’ll see you soon,” I say and hang up the phone before he can respond. I scrub a hand down my face and take a deep breath. It’s moments like this that make me realize how much shit my mom had to put up with when she was still alive. Mom, seriously, you were a saint. With my duffel over my shoulder and my small carry-on rolling behind me, I walk out of the baggage claim area and toward the taxi line. Normally, I’d rent a car, but since I had to book this flight so last minute and there’s apparently some kind of end-of-summer festival going on in downtown Tampa, there were no rentals available. Hopefully, though, I’ll be able to arrange something tomorrow. Or else, I’ll have to cruise around in my dad’s Porsche while I’m here. Not such a terrible fate for me, personally, but as far as taking him places with an injury to his damn groin muscle, I’m thinking his late-life-crisis Porsche won’t be ideal. Once I make my way through the automatic doors, I spot the taxi line and count only three people in front of me. Not too bad. While I stand in line, I pull my phone back out of my pocket and start scrolling through work emails. In just the short flight from New York to Tampa—two and a half hours, tops—my inbox has managed to accumulate over forty emails. Since the small regional plane didn’t offer Wi-Fi, I had to settle for working on my end-of-quarter reports. On a sigh, I run my hand through my dark-brown hair and begin the task of sifting through what’s priority and what’s not. Five emails done and the taxi line gets smaller by one person. Another ten emails and the line gets shorter again. By the time I reach the front, I slide my phone into my pocket and wait patiently as I spot a black taxi heading my way. The driver pulls the cab to a stop right in front of me, but just as I lift my duffel up and over my shoulder to carry it to the trunk, a rush of bright red careens past me. “Oh, thank you so much!” a female voice calls toward the male driver who has just gotten out of the driver’s side to assist with bags. But he shouldn’t be helping with her bags. He should be helping with my bags. What the fuck? “Uh, excuse me?” I question loud enough to catch her attention. She looks up from her spot at the trunk. Her long, wavy red hair fans down her shoulders, and a few rogue curls hang over her face. Bright-blue eyes meet mine, and I can’t stop my brain from thinking, Well, goddamn. Smooth skin, striking features, and a few freckles dotting her nose, she’s…stunning. The kind of woman that urges a double and triple take. Between her gorgeous face and the way her long legs look beneath her cutoff jean shorts, this woman is like the girl next door, but with secrets. Dirty fucking secrets. “Were you talking to me?” she questions, tilting her head to the side when I don’t answer right away. Shit. Get it together. Those blue eyes of hers are still locked with mine, searching them in confusion. “Uh…yeah…actually,” I say, clearing my throat. I glance between the taxi and the taxi line. “You’re kind of stealing my taxi.” “I am?” I smirk. “Yeah.” “Did you call him yourself?” My head jerks back in surprise. “Well, no, but—” “So, you don’t know this driver?” she questions, looking between the driver and me. “Do you know him—” she pauses briefly, then asks “—what’s your name, sir?” “Bob.” She smiles at him. “Bob, do you know this man?” “No.” The driver shakes his head. “I didn’t call him,” I explain on a sigh. “But I followed the rules and waited in this taxi line like everyone else.” “You follow the rules a lot?” she asks, and I don’t know what to make of her question. It sounds dirty and sexy yet sarcastic and accusatory at the same time. “Don’t most people?” “I don’t.” She winks. “But you keep doing you, Barney Fife. The town of Mayberry needs you.” Okay, she definitely just passive-aggressively called me a square. “So, you’re just going to steal my taxi, then?” I question and glance over my shoulder to note the other people waiting in line like myself, but I quickly realize I’m the only one standing here. It doesn’t matter, though. My point is still valid. “Well, I guess that depends.” “On what?” “Are you going to fight me for it?”  Excuse me? “Am I going to fight you for the taxi?” She nods. “Um, no,” I answer on a laugh. What a weird fucking question. “I don’t make a huge habit of fighting women.” “Okay then, I guess the answer to your question is yes, then.” She nods. Winks. Taps her hand on the top of the taxi. “Let’s hit it, Bob.” Bob looks between me and the redhead, who is now getting into of the back seat of his taxi. But eventually, he just shrugs and hops back into the driver’s seat. Then they’re off. Just like that. And I don’t miss the way the mysterious, taxi-stealing redhead turns around in her seat to wave to me as they go or the fact that I’m feeling a lot less attuned to how pretty she is. Her manners are apparently very, very ugly.     What in the hell just happened?
