I had a perfect life.
The adoring husband,
beautiful children,
Everything most people can only dream about.
But, if you’re reading this,
It’s all over,
The mask has fallen,
I’ve been found out.
Secrets have a way of coming out,
They claw at you,
threaten you,
Hold you, prisoner, in your own mind.
They keep you looking over your shoulder.
How long can you remain Anonymous?

At first, you try not to notice the obvious things. You lock the door and second guess yourself. You try to ignore the prickly sensation you get when the hairs at the back of your neck rise in caution. But you reach back and rub it, shake your shoulders and carry on. But you feel it, don’t you? That inkling that someone is watching you, maybe even following you as you walk down the street, on your way to the train station or to the grocery store. You smile and make small talk with the salesperson because you want to be seen, remembered. You check in on social media, I know, because I follow you there too. You capture the mundane because you want people to see where you are at all times. It always fascinates me how a confident person like you, Sin, can be so vulnerable in these moments.
You leave early, no matter where you’re off to, at least thirty minutes ahead of time, so you can sit in your favorite seat, the one at the window that lets you watch the world whizz by. The plateau of land, the clump of trees, until you’re engulfed in the underground. You clam up then, get lost in that head of yours. The dark makes you nervous. You wring your hands in your skirt.
Have you noticed how often you disregard the feeling in the pit of your stomach that eyes are on you as you scour the fresh produce aisle for the best potatoes, unblemished, so you can bake them with the skin on for supper? He likes it like that.
Are you aware that I’m tracing your every step, mimicking your every move? I want to know you, Sin. I want to know everything about you.

She was a laughingstock.
A hippie. A tree-hugger. A granola, crunchy, millennial who worried about how her food was grown and what she put into her body and GMOs and . . .
Had a secret chocolate addiction.
Because even though she cared about all of those things, a girl had to live too. And Rebecca couldn’t live her life without 90% Cacao Super Dark Chocolate.
Addictions aside, it was her job to help keep the players on the San Francisco Gold healthy and she was damned good at it, so her hippie, granola background (and maybe also her PhD in Nutritional Sciences) had come in handy, at least to some degree.
Especially since the team had taken home the league’s top prize last season.
Unfortunately, not everyone thought her contributions were important.
In fact, some people—cough one Dr. Gabe Carter—thought her position with the team was unnecessary. He thought her diet was too restrictive, her meal plan too out there. He’d actually told Rebecca that her program hadn’t been an important factor in the Gold’s successful season.
But dammit, she knew she’d made a difference with the team, knew her work was important, and it didn’t matter that Gabe was gorgeous and a talented doctor, he still didn’t have any right to—
Kiss her.
No.
Kiss her or make her feel small.
Yes, that. The second one. He was a jerk. She didn’t like him or care about his opinions and she definitely wasn’t in love with him. Definitely hadn’t been in love with him the moment she’d laid eyes on him—
Sigh.
She definitely was.
And to make matters worse? Gabe knew.

Eleanor Grace suffers an awful affliction. She’s falling for a man who doesn’t deserve her affection or her forgiveness. But there is no cure, so she does something reckless, stupid—she throws safety to the sea and leaps into danger.
Sully Sinclair suffers the same affliction. He’s falling for a goddess who will never earn his trust or his heart if he can help it. However, he wasn’t prepared for the lengths she’d go. How far she’d push to either stop such a bond or kill them both trying.

You’ll judge me.
Hate me and tell me I’m wrong.
Refuse to see how my darkness is what she needs.
While I don’t particularly care about your feelings in the matter, and while I pursue her despite the wedding bells that rang for another, only I can see how she is drowning beneath mediocrity.
How many times must I remind her?
It can’t matter that I am the person who ruined her life.
The man who killed her father.
The constant shadow that watches her sleep.
The lover who prefers dirty alleyways to freshly laundered sheets
She’s mine. Always has been.
I’m the worst thing for her, yet I’m the only salvation she knows.
He had his chance to make her happy.
He failed.
He didn’t see how she was dying inside because he couldn’t know her.
Not like I know her.
I am her stalker.
Her protector.
And the only man that can bring her back to life.

I look down to see what’s so funny and nearly lose it.
Son of a bitch.
There’s a huge white spot on the crotch of my shorts. It doesn’t help that I’m hard as a rock too, because of what she’s wearing.
“I didn’t mean to interrupt. You could have said you were busy.”
“Funny. Get the hell in here so I can get these off,” I grunt.
She steps inside my apartment and looks around. “Nice place.”
“Thanks. I’ll be right back.” I dart toward the bedroom. “It’s paint by the way,” I call over my shoulder before shutting the door.
Last goddamn time I go paintballing with Jameson and Liam too.
“That’s what they all say,” she yells back.
When I come out, I’m dressed in a nice pair of jeans and a polo shirt. Raylynn gives me a whistle and motions for me to spin around.
“Forget it. You’re not objectifying me.” I grin. “And that paint. Ask Jameson what happened.”
She holds up her hands and snickers. “I’ll pass, but thanks.”
“You good to walk in those?” I point to her shoes. “We’ll need to take the subway.”
“These old things?” Raylynn lifts a foot. “I could run laps in these.”
“We’re not running laps, but I’ll take your word for it.”
She reaches for my shoulders and starts massaging the muscles. “Aww, you’re tense. Are you in a mood?”
I’m tense because she’s standing in my apartment looking like a whole damn snack, and I know nothing is going to happen besides a few drinks.
“Sweetheart, the only mood I’m in is the mood to get out of this apartment for a while,” I lie.
“Well then , let’s get the fuck out of here!” she cheers. “Ooo. Wait a minute. Harley Wagner , are you wearing a gun or are you happy to see me?”
“Christ, I’m tense, and you’re in a really good mood.”
“Seriously, are you wearing your gun?” I sigh and slip my keys into my front pocket. “Yes, Raylynn. I’m packing heat.”
