Oh I knew this book was going to be an emotional journey and it sure was! Alex is just indescribable. He’s obviously been hurt in the past but he is not letting that stop him from protecting dogs. He and Stan (his dog) are an indomitable pair who meet Dawn when Stan needs a dental exam and cleaning. Dawn is the vet who performs it and is as intrigued with Stan as she is with his owner. Alex is quiet, but also caring. And Dawn can tell he’s been very hurt. So she does her best to help him see she just wants to help.

And add all the stories about the dogs and conditions and it’s just heartbreaking. This book is definitely a re-read!!
