His eyes beckoned Iris as he tilted his head down ever so slightly, like a lighthouse in the night. “Every time you see him, you are turned on. And undoubtedly, your mind finds its way back to him as you fuck yourself every night.”
Her curiousness instantly manifested to anger, perhaps that had been his lure all along. Despite what she believed, what she knew, Mack had no right to insinuate these visions about what she did or didn’t do at night under the covers.
“I think it’s time for me to leave,” Iris hastened, setting down her glass and starting to get up.
“Sit,” Mack urged, in the gentlest of ways, a simple command. “Tell me I am not right, and I will take you home right now.”
Her mind rushed through the memories of a photo book, counting the times she lusted for Sal, and done exactly what Mack described. Flushed with rage at his ability, Iris attempted to throw him off. “You’re wrong,” Iris countered, slamming back the whiskey, “I’ve done it way more than that.”
Mack laughed at her, his eyes lighting up like he had scored a point. Her anger eased and Iris giggled at the brilliant idiocy of it all.
“You aren’t going to get to him unless you learn to play his game.”
His lesson became an integral part of the night; the cheat sheet she needed. Iris asked, “Did he tell you to do this?”
“No, we hardly ever speak,” Mack declared, stroking his ginger blonde goatee.
“Okay, fine. Great Wizard, bestow your wisdom upon me and explain, how do I play his game?” Iris sassed, her sarcasm defiant.
“I’ll tell you the biggest secret of them all, after I seduce you,” Mack bragged, raising his eyebrows.
“You owe me the secret, Wizard,” Iris nagged slyly.
Despite the fire igniting between them, Iris didn’t forget his promise. Mack’s lips smirked as he leaned down, kissing her passionately. Iris momentarily thought about going for another round of his game.

What the hell am I doing here?
Four months ago, Iris had a humble existence as a bookstore owner and wife. Iris deemed herself as exciting as cardboard. The more she cried beneath the steam of baptismal water, the more her boring paper exterior seemed to disintegrate down the drain. She had been so busy with her application and work. She went on her weekend interview as her life floored into the fast lane.
The thoughts of Sal came hard and fast as she did in her hand. She didn’t understand why she clung to the man she knew she couldn’t attain, but she did. He gave her hope, lighting her way into darkened future.
Iris opened the shower door and saw her image reflected back in the mirror, she knew her choices were to return to her paper thin existence or experience her rebirth. Wrapping the peach terrycloth robe around her, Iris headed towards Ella’s bedroom door.

With no guarantee, no certificate of marriage, no diploma, no making Ginger or her parents proud, no blue ribbon at the end, Iris took the chance at the possibility of learning who she was in the safety of these strangers. Handing her soul over to them with a devout trust and unshakable faith, Iris trusted that the world of Juliet would provide.
The bedroom door cracked open as Iris slipped inside. The giant glass windows dwarfed the chaise lounge where Ella sat reading. A pillar candle cast a twinkle as low instrumental music strummed. Iris cautiously approached and dropped the robe around her feet.
Pushing the black framed glasses up into her hair, Ella declared, “Do you have any idea how much I want to spank your ass red? But I won’t until your application is approved.”
Iris shivered, “Do it, El. Please, spank me. I’m not asking as a candidate, but as a broken woman. Put me back together again, please Ma’am.”
Iris’ begging struck as untypical behavior, but with her evolution into uncharted territory, maybe begging embraced her true essence. She had no idea of her capabilities.
Setting her book down, Ella took a lengthy interest in staring. Iris thought her body to be forgettable, mundane, and grotesquely obese. She honestly had no clue, but Ella found her hair whispering the top of her ass cheeks alluringly seductive. Her curves only accentuated her femininity with her pretty face so round, pure, and innocent.
