Synopsis: Hockey’s most eligible bachelor must run interference to get the one girl he can’t have.

Sydney:
I’d never even heard of Caleb Prescott, God’s gift to hockey. Who watches hockey anyways? Not me, I’m too busy with college and work. My part-time just for fun job has now asked me to recruit this player for a new dating show. Sounds easy enough. . .until he insists I become part of the show.

Caleb:
I only agreed to compete on the dating show to get closer to Sydney—the redhead pixie I’d do anything to see again. But unlike the women competing for my affection, or the puck bunnies desperate for my attention, Sydney isn’t impressed by my hockey skills. I never miss a shot, I don’t care if she calls interference, I’ll do anything to win her heart.

EXCERPT

Caleb

I shouldn’t have gone out last night with Jonny.

I pulled my pillow from under my head and, face planting into the mattress, and pushed the sides as close to my ears as possible. Anything to block out the annoying ring of my cell phone.

Last night the San Diego Enforcers, the team my brother and I played for, won. As was tradition, Jon Jon and I went out on the town. Sometimes the other guys on the team would come along but for the most part, it was just me and the brother. Back in midgets, mom would take us to McDonald’s; in college, the one year he and I were there at the same time, we would party in my dorm. Now, we went out, partied long and hard, and of course, shut it down. Most of the bartenders looked the other way with Jonny’s age; we knew which places to go to and which bartenders worked what nights. We could always find a good time.

Both Jonny and I had been drafted to San Diego.

During my senior year of college, Jonny’s freshman year, we both walked into training camp as college kids with great stats, and walked out with spots on the roster. Sure, the Prescott name means something to the organization, but Jonny was a damn good goaltender, and my stats were better than dad’s in the respect he didn’t touch majors until he was in his mid-twenties, having played in the American league for a few years beforehand.

Last night’s win meant the Enforcers were that much closer to Sir Stanley and his Cup. Finals were well within our reach. All we had to do was win Tuesday night’s game and we’d make it into the next round. It was a close series, but the odds were in our favor. With Jonny in net, Vegas had to pull all the punches to get the puck past him.

I sighed blissfully when my phone finally stopped ringing, but just as I was about to drop off that sharp edge of sleep, Jonny slammed my bedroom door open. I lifted the pillow enough to look back over my shoulder at the intrusion, watching as my boxer-clad brother tossed the land line phone onto my bed, bouncing off my hamstring – a little too close for comfort. “Fucking asshole.”

Jonny merely raised a dark blond brow. Oh, the perks of sharing a condo with your younger brother.

I guess it could be worse. My sisters weren’t exactly the easiest to live with.

“Next time wake up and answer your damn phone,” Jonny grumbled. “There’s a lady on the other end, and I don’t think she much appreciated my sarcasm.”

I reached back for the phone with one hand as I tossed the pillow aside with the other, before shooting Jonny the bird. As I put the phone to my ear, I watched my twenty year old brother shuffle back toward his own room. “Caleb,” I said on the exhale of a tired sigh.

“Um, hi,” came the voice on the other end. Female, like Jonny said. Not high pitch, but not as sexy, throaty as some female voices were. Nervous, maybe. I didn’t think I knew her voice, and the landline number was pretty locked down, so she couldn’t be some weird stalker chick. I squeezed my eyes shut briefly. Way too much thinking for this hour.

“I’m so sorry that this seems to be an inopportune time. I figured you’d be up and moving as it’s ten.” Was it ten already? “I thought that was the time you started practice on game days. I’m on a tight deadline and was really hoping to just leave a message.” Ah, she didn’t expect to actually talk to me.

“And this is…” I stated–not asked–before yawning.

“I’m sorry,” she apologized again. “My name is Sydney Meadows and I’m calling on behalf of Sorenson Media Group. I tried to reach you through your agent, but he directed me straight to you.”

I made a mental note to talk to Mark the first chance I got. He really needed to stop directing people to me. Wasn’t that his job? To figure out what appearances and gigs were best for his athletes when they weren’t doing what they were being paid to do?

“We are putting together a reality television series, and you are one of the names we were interested in having involved with the show,” she stated in a rehearsed manner.

As I didn’t think sleep was going be coming back to me anytime soon, I rolled over to my back before throwing my legs over the side of the bed. As I stood, I shook my head. “Yeah, sorry. No reality TV.”

“If you’d just let me pitch it to you—“

“That’s all you’re going to be doing, Miss Meadows. Do you really want to waste your breath? I’m not doing television.”

“That’s fine,” she rushed to say. As she began talking about multiple women and just as many dates, I strode naked to my dresser to pull out a pair of old, worn sweatpants. I pulled them on while listening with one ear. She continued to talk so I continued to move, walking out of my room and down the hall that was home to both mine and Jonny’s rooms, a spare room, and a bathroom, before walking barefooted down the stairs. Whenever she’d pause for an answer, I was sure to give a barely verbal ‘mmhm’ just so she would continue her rant and be closer to done.

I had sisters. I knew how to work a phone call with the long-winded female species.

“So great,” she said finally with a smile evident in her voice, so unlike the unsure tone at the beginning of our conversation, one-sided as it mostly was. “I will meet you tonight after your game. Thank you so much, Caleb. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.”

Standing in front of the fridge now, I frowned when I heard the telltale sign of her ending the call. I pulled the phone from my ear only to stare down at the ‘call ended’ screen, the frown not going anywhere.

Well shit…

What did I just agree to?

ABOUT MIGNON MYKEL

Mignon Mykel

Mignon is a twenty-something (…getting awfully close to thirty-something) who resides in Wisconsin. An avid reader since her preschool days, she ‘blames’ her mother for teaching her to read during that all-important time during a forming brain. Some of her earlier memories of reading include her mother buying her a book at the mall — and finishing the book before they even returned home.

Writing happened soon after the reading started. Her first writing piece can be found in a box of other important papers from growing up. It’s about an apple who was her friend, but she had to eat.

The first series Mignon started to write was about a close family of one brother and his three younger sisters. She started writing this family and their friends in 2005, but as soon as the Prescott family took over her mind, the Ashbys fell silent. Maybe someday we’ll all hear from the Ashbys, but those Prescotts…. The Prescotts are excited to have their stories told.

It’s LIVE!

Members only.
A simple rule but a valuable one.

The Castle is the most exclusive and illusive male strip club in the country. As dancers we’re treasured like royalty and as clients, you’re treated like it.
I’m the sweet, southern, brown eyed rope lover whose performance leaves women’s hearts in knots.
Every man that walks out onto the stage is loved like a prince.
I’m Hunter and this is my story.

-This is the SECOND book is a series of STANDALONES-

In reading the synopsis and the first couple pages, I was convinced this book was Magic Mike in written form.  I continued to read and boy am I glad I didn’t let my first assumption ruin it for me.
Hunter is in fact a male stripper at the prestigious The Castle.  But that’s where the similarities between Prince Hunter and Magic Mike end.  Hunter is the sweet, Southern boy who is just doing this to earn a living so he didn’t have to join the family thriving business.
Rory is a girl who wants to do any and everything that gives her a rush.  She is a pretty blonde who really doesn’t make plans (she doesn’t want to be tied down), doesn’t really date and that’s the way she likes it.  Until Hunter.
Hunter is as struck with Rory and she is with him.  But Hunter wants more and it is quite a struggle to convince Rory to fall into a relationship.
A great series of standalones that I haven’t read before.  This is book 2 and I didn’t read book 1, Prince Arik, but I didn’t need to.  I will definitely keep my eye out for the next “Prince”!
4 stars!

There was something in his eyes, something in the words he said that made me pause though. What if this beautiful man really did need my help? MAN OF MYSTERY BOOK TRAILER

TBRreview

Man of Mystery is a multi-part novella.  All parts are included in the book so you don’t have to wait on a hellish cliffhanger.  Which I LOVE.

Tess is just an everyday woman who works a job she doesn’t like with a coworker who constantly steals credit for Tess’ work.  Until Liam jumps in to her back seat.

Liam is an agent who is working on a secret mission.  Yes, Tess thinks that sounds like a B-movie plotline.  But it’s actually true.  Tess instinctively knows to believe Liam and believe in him.  Even when everything sounds like he’s bonkers, Tess still believes in him.

Liam ends up getting Tess involved and is then reprimanded by his boss for involving a civilian.  So he backs off from Tess.  But Tess seems to have a penchant for getting in trouble or finding trouble.

This was a quick read that sort of made me think of James Bond or Austen Powers.  With romance of course.

4 stars!

rose

What a waste of smooth, shaven legs.

“Jules? It’s Reese. Where the hell are you? I need you. This is the worst date I’ve ever been on. I’m literally falling asleep. I’ve considered smashing my head on the table a few times to keep awake. Unless you want me bloodied and bruised, I need you to call with a fake emergency. Call me back. Please.” Pressing end call, I blew out a frustrated breath as I stood outside the ladies’ room in the dark hallway at the back of the restaurant.

A deep voice from behind me caught me off guard. “Unless he’s also an idiot—in addition to being boring—he’s going to know.”

“Excuse me?” I turned to find a man leaning against the wall, his eyes pointed down as he texted away on his phone. He continued without looking up.

“It’s the oldest trick in the book…the emergency phone call. The least you can do is put in a little more effort. It takes two months to get a reservation at this place, and it’s not cheap, sweetheart.”

“Maybe he should be the one to put in more effort. His sports jacket has a giant hole under the arm, and he’s done nothing but talk about his mother all night.”

“Ever consider that your snobby attitude makes him nervous?”

My eyes nearly bulged out of my head. “You want to talk about snobby? You eavesdrop on my call and give me your unwelcome opinions, all while staring down at your phone. You haven’t even made eye contact with me while you’re speaking.”

The jerk’s fingers froze mid text. Then I watched as his head rose, eyes following a leisurely path starting at my ankles, up over my bare legs, and lingering at the hemline of my skirt before continuing to trace their way over my hips, coming to rest briefly on my breasts before finally settling on my face.

“Yes, that’s right. Up here. These are my eyes.”

He pushed off the wall and stood tall, catching the lone ray that had been lighting the hallway. The streak illuminated his face, and I could see him clearly for the first time.

Really? Not what I was expecting. With that deep, raspy voice and attitude, I assumed I’d find someone older, probably dressed in a stuffy suit. But this guy was gorgeous. Young and gorgeous. Dressed entirely in black—simple and sleek, yet there was an edge to the way he looked. Golden brown hair tousled in that sexy I don’t give a shit way, but still looked perfect. Strong, masculine features—a square, rugged jaw coated with day-old stubble on sunkissed skin, a straight, prominent nose, and big, sexy, sleepy eyes the color of chocolate. Those were now staring intently at me.

Without dropping my gaze, he lifted his arms from his sides, holding them up over his head. “You want to check me for rips before you decide if I’m worthy of speaking to?”

He was gorgeous all right, but definitely an asshole. “That’s not necessary. Your attitude has already decided that for me, and you’re not.”

Lowering his arms, he chuckled. “Suit yourself. Try to enjoy the rest of your evening, sweetheart.”

I huffed, but stole one last fleeting look at the beautiful jerk before I walked back to my date.

Martin was sitting with his hands folded when I returned to my seat at the table.

“Sorry,” I told him. “There was a line.”

“That reminds me of a funny story. This one time, I was at a restaurant with my mother, and when she went to use the ladies’ room…”

His voice faded away while I stared at my phone, willing it to ring. Damn you, Jules. Where are you when I really need you? Around the middle of the story—at least I think it was the middle—I noticed the jerk from the bathroom walking past our table. He smirked at me after taking a look at my rambling date and my disinterested face. Curious, I followed his path to get a look at who he was here with.

Figures.

Dyed blonde, pretty in a slutty sort of way, with a heaping amount of boobage falling out of her low-cut dress. She made googly eyes at her date as he returned; I rolled mine. Yet…I couldn’t help but glance over at their table from time to time.

When our salads arrived, Martin was talking about his mother’s recent appendectomy, and I grew particularly bored. My eyes must have lingered a minute too long, because the guy from the bathroom caught me staring at him. Across the restaurant, he winked, arched an eyebrow, and tipped his glass in my direction.

Jerk.

Since I’d been caught, why bother to hide my watching him? He was certainly more interesting than my date. And he wasn’t shy about looking my way either. When a waiter stopped by his table, I watched as beautiful bathroom guy pointed in my direction and spoke. Martin was still telling some mommy-dearest story as I glanced behind me to see what the attractive jerk across the room could’ve been pointing to. When I turned back, the jerk and his date were standing. Reading his lips, I could make out some of what he was saying…something about joining an old friend, I thought. Then suddenly, they were walking right toward our table.

Is he going to say something to Martin about what he overheard?

“Reese. Is that you?”

What in the hell?

“Umm…yes.”

“Wow. It’s been a long time.” He patted his hand on his chest. “It’s me, Chase.” Before I knew what was happening, the jerk (who was apparently named Chase) reached down and gripped me in a bear hug. While I was in his arms, he whispered, “Play along. Let’s make your night more exciting, sweetheart.”

Dumbfounded, I could only stare as he turned his attention to Martin, extending his hand.

“I’m Chase Parker. Reese and I go way back.”

“Martin Ward.” My date nodded.

“Martin, mind if we join you? It’s been years since Buttercup and I have seen each other. I’d love to catch up. You don’t mind, do you?”

Although he’d asked a question, Chase definitely didn’t wait for a response. Instead, he pulled out a chair for his date and introduced her.

“This is Bridget…” He looked to her for help, and she filled in the blank.

“McDermott. Bridget McDermott.” She smiled, undaunted by our new double date or Chase’s obvious inability to remember her last name.

Martin, on the other hand, looked disappointed that our twosome was now a foursome, although I was certain he would never voice it.

He looked to Chase as he sat. “Buttercup?”

“That’s what we used to call her. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. My favorite candy.”

Once Chase and Bridget were seated, there was a moment of awkwardness. Surprisingly, it was Martin who broke it. “So, how do you two know each other?”

Even though Martin asked the question looking at both of us, I wanted to make it clear to Chase that he was the one on the hot seat. This was his little game.

“I’ll let Chase tell you about the first time we met. It’s really a funny story, actually.” I propped my elbows on the table and rested my head on my folded hands, turning my full attention to Chase while batting my eyelashes with a sly grin.

He didn’t flinch, nor did he take more than a few seconds to come up with a story. “Well, it wasn’t really the first time we met that’s the funny story—more like what happened after we met. My parents split up when I was in eighth grade, and I had to transfer to a new school. I was pretty miserable until I met Reese here on the bus the first week. She was the off-limits pretty girl, but I figured I had no friends to bust my balls if I asked her on a date and she turned me down. So, even though she’s a year older than me, I asked her to the eighth-grade dance. Surprised the shit out of me when she agreed to go.

“Anyway, I was young, with a healthy dose of testosterone, and I got it into my head that she was going to be my first kiss. All of my buddies back at my old school had already gotten theirs, and I figured it was my time. So, when the dance was coming to an end, I tugged Buttercup out of the crappy crepe-paper-and-balloon-decorated gymnasium and into the hall for some privacy. Of course, since it was my first time, I had no idea what to expect. But I went for it—got right in there and started to suck her face.”

Chase paused and winked at me. “It was all good up until then, wasn’t it, Buttercup?”

I couldn’t even respond. I was so floored listening to his story. But again, my lack of response didn’t seem to bother him because he went right along, weaving his tall tale.

“Anyway, this is where the story gets good. Like I said, I didn’t have any experience, but I dove right in—lips, teeth, tongue, and all. After a minute, the kiss started to feel awfully wet, but I was into it, so I kept going and going, not wanting to be the first one to pull away. Eventually, when we came up for air—literally since I’d almost sucked her face off—I realized why it had felt so wet. Reese had gotten a nosebleed in the middle of the kiss, and both of our faces were covered in smeared blood.”

Martin and Bridget laughed, but I was too stunned to react.

Chase reached out and touched my arm. “Come on, Buttercup. Don’t get embarrassed. Those were some good times we had. Remember?”

“How long were you two a couple?” Martin asked.

Just as Chase was about to respond, I reached over and touched his arm in the same patronizing way he’d touched mine. “Not too long. Right after the other incident, we broke up.”

Bridget clapped her hands and bopped up and down in her seat like an excited child. “I wanna hear about the other incident!”

“I’m not sure I should actually share it, now that I think about it,” I mused. “Is this your first date?”

Bridget nodded.

“Well, I don’t want you to assume Chase has the same problem anymore. Since our little incident was so long ago.” I leaned over to Bridget and whispered, “They gain better control as they grow older. Usually.”

Instead of being upset, Chase looked thoroughly pleased with my story. Proud, even. In fact, the rest of the evening went on pretty much the same way. Chase told elaborate stories about our fake childhood, unafraid to embarrass himself in the process, and kept us all amused. I sometimes added to his stories when my mouth wasn’t hanging open at the crap he’d made up.

I hated to admit it, but the jerk had started to grow on me, even while telling stories about my bloody nose and the “unfortunate bra-stuffing incident.” By the end of the evening, I was ordering coffee to stall the night’s end—a far cry from our exchange in the bathroom hallway.

Outside of the restaurant, Martin, Chase, and I all handed the valet our tickets. I preferred to be in control of when a first date started and ended, so I’d met Martin at the restaurant. Of course Bridget had come in Chase’s car like a normal date. She was also practically rubbing up against his side as she clung to his arm while we waited for our cars. When my shiny red Audi pulled up first, I wasn’t sure how to say goodbye to…well…anyone. I took the keys and lingered with the door open.

“Nice car, Buttercup.” Chase smiled. “Better than that hunk of junk you drove in high school, huh?”

I chuckled. “I suppose it is.”

Martin stepped forward. “It was nice seeing you, Reese. I hope we can do this again sometime.”

Rather than wait for him to attempt to kiss me, I went in for a hug. “Thank you for a nice dinner, Martin.”

As I stepped back, Chase stepped forward and pulled me into a hug. Unlike the friendly back-pat I’d given Martin, Chase plastered me against his body. God, it felt good. Then he did the strangest thing… He wound my long hair around his hand a few times and closed it into a fist, using it to tug my head back. His eyes lingered on my lips as I looked up at him, and for a brief second, I thought he might kiss me.

Then he leaned down and kissed my forehead. “See you at the reunion next year?”

I nodded, feeling almost off-kilter. “Umm…sure thing.” I glanced to Bridget after he released me. “Nice to meet you, Bridget.”

Reluctantly, I folded into my car. Feeling eyes on me, I looked up while putting my seat belt on. Chase watched me intently. It looked like he wanted to say something, but after a few heartbeats, it felt strange to sit and wait any longer.

Taking a deep breath, I pulled away with one last wave, wondering why it felt like I was leaving something important behind.

Blurb

The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn’t exactly make a good impression.

I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date.

He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.

So I told him to mind his own damn business—his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business—and went back to my miserable date.

When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date.

I couldn’t help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room.  Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.

When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out.

But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us—telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood.

My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting.

When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I’d never see him again.

I mean, what were the chances I’d run into him again in a city with eight million people?

Then again…

What were the chances a month later he’d wind up being my new sexy boss?

Ruth Cardello was born the youngest of 11 children in a small city in northern Rhode Island. She was an educator for 20 plus years, the last 11 as a kindergarten teacher. When her school district began cutting jobs, Ruth turned a serious eye toward her second love- writing and self-published her first billionaire contemporary romance in 2011.

In 2012, her third book hit the New York Times and USA Today and the series went to auction in New York. The scariest decision she made in her writing career was walking away from the seven figure deal she was offered there. It was, however, the right choice for her. Her books have sold well since and have far outearned that offer.

Her billionaire romances were purchased by several countries and been translated into many languages, but she has retained her English rights on her books. She has recently branched out to write cowboy romances for Montlake. She describes herself as a steady, mid-list author.
When she’s not writing, she’s chasing her children and husband around their small farm and plotting her next family vacation.

After a successful twenty-four-year career as a business owner, Tina Ellery, is now an Indie author writing the type of romantic fiction she wants to read. A little mysterious and a lot sexy.

Ellery lives in Minneapolis, MN with her husband and two children. She’ll tell you her writing started because of her son, Salty, and her daughter, Sweetie, and one too many cartons.

When she’s not clicking on the keys, she’s holding some caffeinated beverage. She’s a freelancer with her hoard of recipes and in her free time a jewelry designer.

Writing became her obsession in 2013 when she filled six yellow legal pads and decided to “type the darn thing up.” Be careful when talking to her, though, she’s bound to find you interesting, and you could end up as material, or one of the characters in her next book.

Blog Tour & Review ~ Beneath Broken ~ by ~ C.J. Pinard

Title: Beneath Broken
Series: Imperfect Heroes #2
Author: C.J. Pinard
Release Date: July 5, 2016

He’s a clean-cut cop who loves a good challenge.

She’s a smart executive with no interest in falling in love.

It won’t take long for the flames of desire to scorch them both, forcing them to either douse the blaze, or succumb to the fire.

MASON
I don’t give up easily. My personality and training taught me that failure is not an option, and getting the attention of the beautiful executive president Harper Mathis is going to be my biggest challenge yet. But first I’ve got to find out why she’s so withdrawn. A woman that stunning must have secrets and I’m going to find out what’s hiding behind those baby blue eyes of hers. She’ll quickly see how much I love a good game of chase.
HARPER
I’ve gone through hell and am not ashamed to admit that I’m broken. Damaged goods. Used up and empty. I want nothing to do with men or love, especially not a cop and a veteran – one who puts his life in danger every day. I’ve been there, done that, and my heart has no interest in someone like Detective Mason Oliver. Even if he’s the hottest thing I’ve laid eyes on in a very long time. I get the feeling Mason always gets what he wants, though. Well, he hasn’t seen my stubborn side.
Mason
Well, damn. What in the fuck was this woman doing to me? Here she was, all sorts of closed off and shy during dinner. Being the gentleman I was, I walked her to her car. I was going to make sure she got in it okay, then leave. And yes, if the opportunity presented itself, I was going to kiss her, or at least touch her in some way. It was like she was unknowingly begging me to put my hands on some part of her. She probably didn’t even know she was putting out that type of vibe. Even though the professional side of me knew I shouldn’t be anywhere near her in a social setting, being that she was involved in one of our active open cases.
Then we had this awkward moment at her car. I couldn’t believe she reached up and touched my face. I wish I’d shaved today, but I hadn’t… and she didn’t seem to mind, so I just rolled with it.
It was hot outside as usual, the humidity was stifling, but nothing I wasn’t used to. I really wanted to get into the Mustang and crank the A/C, but when I looked down into swimming blue eyes, I forgot all about the Florida heat and zeroed in on the icy depths of her eyes that were in complete contrast to the heat radiating from them.
During dinner, my eyes had trailed down several times to her mouth. She had the most beautiful pouty mouth, nice teeth, and very smooth skin. I had noticed this the first time I’d seen her when Jenkins and I responded to the robbery, and had pushed it out of my mind. As a cop, it’s pretty much “frowned upon” to date suspects, witnesses, victims, or anyone else we meet while working. I say “frowned upon” because the Tampa Police Department knows damned good and well they can’t stop us from dating whoever the hell we want.
I was still reeling from her soft hand on my face. I realized she was using her finger to trace the stubble on my left cheek, which I’d been told on more than one occasion was sexy to quite a few girls, and just let her do it. I felt my mouth water when she closed the distance between us, her body giving off more heat than the hot day.
“What happened to your face?” she asked, not looking into my eyes but at the bruise Hunter had put on my jaw.
I ignored the question because I really didn’t hear it. Her touch had literally left me no choice. I wrapped my hand around her waist and pulled her to me. Her body felt so good against mine, and as I reached up to grab the hand that was tracing my face, I felt her melt into me. I moved her hand down and threaded it with mine, using my other one to caress her cheek. With her now pushed up against her car, I leaned down and sealed my mouth over hers. She immediately accepted the kiss and then used her free hand to rake her fingernails through my hair. I groaned in the back of my throat at the sensation. It had been way too long since I’d felt a woman do that. It had been way too long since I’d felt a woman against me… period.
She continued to kiss me, her tongue mingling with mine. I almost felt like I couldn’t breathe; she was so hot and I couldn’t believe how much I was attracted to her. I wanted to rip her clothes off and put myself inside of her right there in the parking lot. I had no doubt she could feel my arousal against her, because she was pushing herself – no, she was grinding herself – into me. The chemistry was electric and I had to keep myself from groaning again at the feel of her sensuous and silky tongue in my mouth.
I slowly eased away from her and looked down into her eyes again. “Would you like me to drive you home?” I was slightly panting and out of breath now.
Her blue eyes got big, and she wiped her bottom lip with her thumb. Looking into my eyes, she shook her head no, untangled herself from my embrace, and got into her car without another word. She started it up, and I heard a click as she put the car in gear. She didn’t even look at me through the closed driver’s side window.
I had to step away from the Honda so I didn’t get my foot run over.
I stood in the parking lot in stunned silence as she drove off.

I knew just from the title that this book was going to bring a halestorm of emotions, and I was right.
Beyond Broken was joyful, heart-breaking, sad, and just made me feel all the feels.  I was angry at times, hurting for both Harper and Mason, and then glad for them as well.
Harper is still getting over the loss of her husband eighteen months ago.  She’s working at the non-profit her and her late husband opened; helping wounded veterans getting jobs and acclimated back into non-warzones.
Mason is a by the book cop who is investigating thefts of local non-profits in the area. So that’s how he and Harper really meet.
This book ticked all my boxes.  There was drama, suspense, romance.  It was well rounded and I want to read book 1 know just because I liked how the series of Imperfect Heroes is.
5 stars!

I’m a California girl living in land-locked Colorado. Lover of red wine, wearer of fabulous shoes, and a die-hard Niner fan, I’m also an editor at heart. I’ve written over a dozen books and short stories that contain both contemporary/new adult and paranormal romance that are a little bit badass, a little heart-wrenching, and sorta funny (to me, anyway). Almost all my books usually contain law enforcement or military undertones, since strong, brave, alpha men and women are my weaknesses. When I’m not writing, I can be found working at a very strange day job, which may or may not have some mild influences on my gripping stories – so strange, in fact, I think I’ll write a book about it one day.

I’m also a proud member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA).
