Daniela

I was never a beloved daughter. Only a prized possession to be kept in a gilded cage until my father was ready to trade.

It was my duty, carved in stone and written in my blood that one day my virtue would be exchanged for an alliance. And now, that day has come.

Gian Silvestro, heir to the Silvestro empire, will accept me as his wife and seal my fate with a kiss that holds a thousand promises. But to him, our vows only mean one thing…

I am bound to him…and shackled to his hate.

He eased the back of his hand down the side of my face, his gaze following the movement. “I bet daddy-dearest made sure no man has ever touched you. The purer they are, the more they are worth.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“It’s the truth.” He kept staring at the side of my face as he brushed the curls behind my ear. “If you weren’t still a virgin, your father wouldn’t have had a lot of options to pick from. He would have had to take whatever he could get,” he shrugged, “which wouldn’t have been much if your virtue wasn’t still intact.”

“Why are you doing this?” I lifted my chin. “You’ve made it abundantly clear that you hate me, that you can’t stand me, yet this is the second time you have me pinned against a wall like a starved animal.”

“I do hate you.”

“Then what the hell are you doing right now?”

His hand dropped to my waist, fire erupting in my belly. “Maybe,” he started as he slowly wound up the skirt of my nightgown between his fingers, “maybe I’ve decided that the best way to piss off Emilio Moretti is to ruin his daughter.”

I scoffed. “Do you think my father gives a damn what you do to me?”

“No.” His fingers touched my thigh as he bunched up the silk. “Perhaps I just want to break you for my own amusement.”

“I don’t break easily.”

A single finger snaked inside my panties, and I sucked in a breath. “There’s more than one way to break a woman.”

I was content with my life. Being a mom to Jaxon, working as a legal assistant, and hanging out with my best friend.
Then I met Dane Thompson.
Lead singer of Blanked Edge and my new neighbor.

Is it a good idea?
Probably not.
Do I do it anyway regardless of the way he makes me squirm with just a look?

BLURB

To say I survived the unimaginable isn’t exactly accurate, because I didn’t.

I’m alive.
But I’m not living.
I’m existing, clawing my way from one day to the next.
My only saving grace is my job as a police officer, and it’s during a routine traffic stop one evening when the threads of my isolated existence begin to unravel.
One glance from Quinn Harris and I feel like I’m dreaming. And the more chance brings us together, the more I’m powerless to stop the uneasy feeling that I’m losing control.
She stirs up thoughts of something new and unexpected—of a life I’m no longer prepared to handle.
***
I’m done with men.
I trusted my ex and he broke my heart.
But life doesn’t seem to want to follow my plan, which is evident the moment I meet Nolan Bennett.
He doesn’t score high on first impressions. In fact, he is downright rude.
But as we continue to run into each other, I start to see another side of him, and I can’t deny I’m intrigued.
Against my better judgment, I give him a chance.
But again, life will step in and take over.
Only this time I don’t think either of us will survive. Not with an unknown link between us too painful to overcome.

EXCERPT

Beautiful weather used to enhance my good moods in the past, but seeing the sun shining brightly, high in the sky, and feeling the warm breeze on the side of my face as I drove only seemed to aggravate me. On the days when it was dark and gloomy, I felt harmony because my surroundings were reflective of the turmoil I constantly battled. I was more at peace when the world appeared desolate.

When I finally arrived at the address, I took a moment before I exited my cruiser, calling on whatever hierarchy there was in the universe to give me the strength to complete my task. It’d gotten easier over time to deal with the public, but I still struggled with the interactions, although no one ever detected such a thing. Most just categorized me as an asshole, and I was fine with the assessment.
Opening my door, I slid out of my seat and adjusted my duty belt as I rounded the back of the vehicle, flipping on my shades to shield my eyes from the blinding sun. Up ahead, I saw a woman standing in the archway of the complex. If she was aware of my presence, she didn’t show it, so I took the time to assess her, as I did everyone I came into contact with.
She was thin, approximately five-six with long dark hair. She wore a black skirt, white top, and black heels. On her left wrist was a silver banded watch. She carried what looked to be a laptop case on her right shoulder. The closer I approached, the more I was able to see more of her, but it wasn’t until she turned to face me that I realized I’d seen her before.
The prior evening, in fact.
Standing near her now, in the light of day, in a drastically different scenario, a pang of remorse washed over me. To say feeling bad was an oddity for me was an understatement. I hardly ever gave people a second thought, let alone harbored any sense of guilt about my interactions.
There was a chance she wouldn’t recognize me as the same officer who pulled her over last night. If that was the case, then I would remain as quiet as possible and get this over with quickly so I could get back to dealing with the rest of my day.
Any hope I had that she viewed me as a complete stranger died when her eyes narrowed into slits and the corners of her mouth turned down.
“This is just great,” she mumbled loud enough for me to hear, and I didn’t know if it was her tone or the blatant look of disgust on her face from having to stand near me, but a part of me that had been dormant for as long as I could remember flicked back to life during the unpleasant interaction.
The moment was fleeting, but I held on to it for as long as possible before it faded into obscurity. The snarkiness in her voice pricked my senses. Everyone else I encountered either left me alone completely or engaged me briefly, their tones restrained and cautious, most likely because of my body language: that and the constant scowl on my face.
But the woman standing ten feet from me piqued my curiosity, all while she treated me with an iota of disdain.
Now, if she’d only stop glaring at me, I could attempt to make amends for last night.

When a house meeting is called and Milo appears, one look has Nora spinning.

Milo Daughton is moody, flirty and a known player. As irresistibly sexy as he is, he runs hot and cold, and there are a set house rules in place. Determined to focus on school, Nora sets out to keep Milo and his heartbreaking ways out of her life, and out of her bed.

With her unlikely group of roommates rallying around her, she struggles to accept their help. Can she figure out who is behind it all, or will everyone be put at risk of getting hurt at her expense?

“You still have the hots for him too, don’t you?”

I could never lie to my friend. “Do we have to talk about this now?” I asked. When he nodded, I continued reluctantly. “He always seems to be around and he consumes my dreams,” I sighed.

Adam grinned. “That’s what I thought. Now let’s swim. Want me to flirt with you and make him jealous?”

“Uh no, that would get awkward fast. Thanks though.”

I slid slowly into the pool while Adam decided on a cannonball. Milo swam over and hung unto the wall beside me. He looked around before he began to speak.

“What was Adam saying to you a minute ago?”

“Nothing important.”

“Do you have a thing for each other?”

A laugh burst from my mouth. “Not a chance. Adam is like the brother I never had. Why?”

Milo shrugged. “Just curious.” He pulled on my hand as he pushed off the wall into the middle of the pool, dragging me with him.

I had to tread to keep myself afloat, but he put his arm around me, pulling me closer to him.

“You know, you are making staying above the water a little difficult, Milo.”

“So put your arms around me, I’ll keep you up.” He said with a smirk.

“Stop being all cutesy with me.” I said pushing off of him.

“You think I’m cute?” He asked, his smirk turning into a full-on glorious smile.

“Ugh that is not what I meant and you know it.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see that attention was falling on us. “People are beginning the stare.”

“So?”

Really? How could he have such a nonchalant attitude?

He drifted a little closer to me, and I tried to put more distance between us, but he just kept coming until soon there was nowhere else for me to go as I pressed up against the wall. Closer still, he came until my mind was short-circuiting. My gaze flicked between his gorgeous eyes and his lips that were close enough to kiss.

“Nora?”

“Mmm?”

“I asked you a question.”

I shook myself out the daydream. “Sorry. What was the question?”

Milo smiled. He knew what he was doing to me. He leaned in even closer, speaking the words against my ear.

Pre-Order Blitz ~ Bonus Kisses ~ by ~ Freya Barker

Title: Bonus Kisses
Author: Freya Barker
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 7, 2020

Free-spirited black sheep, Taz Boran, has worked tirelessly as a nurse bringing efficient medical care to Africa for the past eight years. But when her sister Nicky is told she doesn’t have long to live, she immediately flies home to small-town Eminence, Missouri.

Unfortunately, taking care of Nicky means being around her husband, Rafe; the one man Taz could never forget. Rafe is not only her brother-in-law but also took over the family veterinary clinic from her dad.

As Taz becomes Nicky’s home health care nurse—working closely with Rafe to make her sister comfortable—their latent attraction comes sizzling back to the surface. They won’t betray Nicky, but if her dying wish is to see them get the happy ending they always deserved, can they really keep fighting what’s meant to be?
That voice.

Goosebumps break out over my skin as I swing around at the sound. The softly whispered fuck me when he recognizes me almost has me running.

The thirty-eight hours and four airplanes it took me to get me here—from the small airstrip by the clinic to the international airport in Kinshasa, via Paris to New York, and finally Springfield—left me too much time to think. I’d reconsidered the wisdom of the split second it took me to make a promise I hadn’t really thought through all the way.

The man who has my hair stand on end was one of the main reasons I almost changed my mind.

Damn, he looks good. A little gray in his whiskers and a few more lines in his face, but otherwise he’s still the same Rafe I first met nine years ago in my parents’ kitchen. The same deep blue eyes pin me in place.

All I can hear is the blood rushing through me, but I realize Nicky must’ve said something when his gaze flits to the bed behind me. I turn around. Shame instantly floods me when I see the mere shadow of my perfect sister lying in the hospital bed.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Rafe finally says. “Need I remind you of the last time she decided to show her face? You were a mess for months.”

I wince at his description of my last visit home five years ago. Nicky catches it and shoots me an apologetic smile. I instantly realize she hasn’t told him the reason why I left in such a hurry and never returned.

“Well, I don’t have months now. Besides, that was not Taz’s fault,” she defends me, but Rafe won’t hear it.

“For the life of me I don’t understand how you can stand up for her. You forget I lived through the aftermath.”

“You don’t know everything.” Nicky’s voice is weak and her eyes tired. “I need her. I can’t do this without her.” Her hand finds mine and she grabs on as the first tears I’ve shed in years start rolling down my cheeks “Please, Rafe,” she pleads. “I need you to back me on this.”

His eyes soften on her, before turning to me with suspicion and concern. It fucking hurts, but I lift my chin and stare him down, my sister’s fragile hand in mine strengthening me.

Rafe’s only answer is a curt nod.

The reason why a united front is necessary becomes clear when, half an hour later, Mom walks in the room pushing my father in a wheelchair, a sight that shocks me.

She stops right inside the door, clutching a fist to her chest when her eyes land on me.

“Out,” she growls, and the single syllable is like a dagger in my back. My gaze darts to my father whose face has gone slack.

“Mom…”

Nicky’s plea goes unheard as my mother narrows her eyes on me. “How dare you show up out of the blue. You broke your father’s heart.”

Not even my sister’s surprisingly firm hold on my hand can give me the strength I need for this face-off. I’ve been traveling for days with little to no sleep, endured barbs from the one man who has the power to injure me, and haven’t even begun to process that my sister is dying. There is no way I can handle my mother’s anger or my dad’s disappointment.

“That’s enough,” Rafe barks unexpectedly at my mother, shocking her as much as it shocks me. Then he adds a bit more gently, “Taz is here because Nicky called for her.”

Using the brief silence that follows as my mother struggles to understand, I bend over my sister, my face close to hers, effectively shutting everyone else out. “I’m going to step out, but I’ll be back.”

“Promise?”

Title: Marsala Maroon

Series: Franki Amato Mystery (book 5)

Author: Traci Andrighetti

Release Date: November 17, 2020

Jazz Fest is in full swing in The Big Easy, but PI Franki Amato is singing the blues. The owner of an historic Italian grocery and deli is murdered in a manner eerily reminiscent of the Axeman of New Orleans, a notorious serial killer who hasn’t struck in over a century, and someone Franki knows has been arrested for the crime. Adding to her distress, Franki, her mom, and her meddling Sicilian nonna finally meet her fiancé’s family, but the tone of their encounter is decidedly downbeat. And just as her personal life strikes a sour note, the killer jazzes up his techniques. The pressure is on Franki to decipher an odd assortment of clues—an old gramophone record, a stolen trumpet, and a bottle of marsala wine. If she doesn’t, she could be the next one to get the ax.

Traci Andrighetti is the USA Today bestselling author of the Franki Amato mysteries and the Danger Cove Hair Salon mysteries. In her previous life, she was an award-winning literary translator and a Lecturer of Italian at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a PhD in Applied Linguistics. EXCERPT

“Why does this feel so right?” She broke the kiss, blinking up at me with her big honey eyes.

“Because maybe it is. Maybe we just both have to take a chance.”
“I can’t do it again. I can’t watch someone I…” She stopped herself, letting out a heavy sigh. Part of me was relieved. I didn’t want to ever hear those words. “I’ll never be the most important thing in your life. I deserve that, Levi. I deserve to come first.”
Her honesty shook me to the core. Phoebe had scars. The deep kind. The kind I knew I couldn’t fix. The kind I knew I would only rip open if I pursued this thing with her.
But I couldn’t walk away.
I couldn’t do it.
So long as she was on tour with us, we would continue to go around in circles until one of us cracked. Or I fucked things up for good.
Touching my head to hers, I breathed her in. “I’m not a good guy, Bee, but I’d try to be good for you.”
A shiver ran through her as she swayed gently. She was drunk. Maybe more than I’d first thought.
“Come on,” I said, guiding her toward the bed. “You should get some sleep.”
Phoebe began stripping out of her clothes with haste, as if they were suffocating her. “Stupid shirt,” she groaned as she tried to yank it over her head.
I stood back, smothering the laughter rumbling in my chest. “Need some help?”
Her eyes snapped to mine, glittering in the dark. “I can manage.”
After a couple more failed attempts, I crouched down and nudged her hands away. “Here, let me.” My fingers brushed her bare skin, and she whimpered again.
My dick strained against my jeans, desperate to feel her again. But the next time I was inside her, I wanted Phoebe to know exactly who she was fucking.
I pulled back the cover. “In you go.”
“I can’t believe this happening,” she mumbled. “How embarrassing.” Phoebe buried her face in the pillow.
I made quick work of stripping down to my boxers and climbed in bed beside her. She tried to roll away, putting as much space between us as possible.
But fuck that.
I hooked my arm around Phoebe’s waist and pulled her back against my chest.
“Levi, we can’t snuggle…”
“Why the fuck not?” I tangled my legs with hers, fighting the urge to press my hard length right up against her ass.
“Because I’m your assistant and you’re…” She let out a little huff of frustration.
“It’s okay, honeybee,” the nickname rolled off my tongue as easy as breathing, “you can say it. I’m the best sex you’ve ever had.” I breathed against the shell of her ear.
Her sweet laughter filled the small room. “You’re definitely the biggest ego I’ve ever had.”
