Strong enough to protect her. Bold enough to love her.

When good girl Margo Connelly becomes Lamar “Striker” Jennings’s latest assignment, she knows she’s in trouble. And not just because he’s been hired to protect her from an underworld criminal. The reformed bad boy’s appeal is breaching all her defenses, and as the threats against her increase, Margo isn’t sure which is more dangerous: the gangster targeting her, or the far too alluring protector tempting her to let loose.

Though Striker’s now living on the right side of the law, he’s convinced his troubled past keeps Margo out of his league. But physical chemistry explodes into full-blown passion when they go on the run together. Surrendering to desire could be a deadly distraction—or finally prove that he’s the only man qualified to keep her safe, and win her love.

Excerpt:

Margo Connelly stared up at her uncle. “A bodyguard? Do you really think that’s necessary, Uncle Frazier? I understand extra policemen are patrolling the streets.”

“That’s not good enough. Why should I trust a bunch of police officers?”

“Why shouldn’t you?” she countered, not for the first time wondering what her uncle had against cops. On more than one occasion he’d made that quite obvious.

“I have my reasons, but this isn’t about me—this is about you and your safety. I refuse to have you placed in any danger. What’s the big deal? You’ve had a bodyguard before.”

Yes, she’d had one before. Right after her parents’ deaths, when her uncle had become her guardian. He had shipped her off to London for three years. She’d reckoned he’d been trying to figure out what he, a devout bachelor, was to do with a ten-year-old. When she returned to the United States, Apollo remained her bodyguard. When she turned fourteen, she fought hard for a little personal freedom. But she’d always known the chauffeurs Uncle Frazier hired could do more than drive her to and from school. More than once she’d seen the guns they carried.

“Yes, but that was then and this is now, Uncle Frazier. I can look after myself.”

“Haven’t you been keeping up with the news?” he snapped. “Three people are dead. All three were in that courtroom with you. Erickson is making sure his threat is carried out.”

“And more than likely whoever is committing these murders will be caught before there can be another shooting. I understand the three were killed while they were away from home. I have enough paperwork to catch up on here for a while. I didn’t even leave my house today.”

“You don’t think a paid assassin will find you here? Alone? You either get on board with having a bodyguard or you move back home. It’s well secured there.”

Margo drew in a deep breath. Back home was the Connelly estate. Yes, it was secure, with its state-of-the-art surveillance system. While growing up, she’d thought of the ten-acre property, surrounded by a tall wrought-iron fence and cameras watching her every move, as a prison. Now she couldn’t stand the thought of staying there for any long period of time…especially if Liz was still in residence.

Her forty-five-year-old uncle had never married and claimed he had his reasons for never wanting to. But that didn’t keep him from occasionally having a live-in mistress under his roof. His most recent was Liz Tillman and, as far as Margo was concerned, the woman was a real work of art with the words gold digger written all over her. Margo knew her uncle was a smart man and would eventually figure that fact out for himself. But right now it seemed he was quite taken with Liz’s looks and body.

“It’s final. A bodyguard will be here around the clock to protect you until this madness is over.”

Margo didn’t say anything. She wondered if at any time it had crossed her uncle’s mind that they were at her house, not his, and she was no longer a child but a twenty-six-year-old woman. In a way, she knew she should appreciate his concern, but she refused to let anyone order her around.

Cover Reveal ~ Jayce Ventura ~ by ~ Serena Akeroyd

Title – Jayce Ventura: Ghost Detective
Author – Serena Akeroyd
Genre – Paranormal Romance
Release Date – January 31, 2017

It says a lot about a person when their best friend is a ghost.

But, Jayce Ventura, ghost detective, has nothing but the deceased as friends. With no love life, no social life, and only Ben and Jerry who’ll put up with her, something’s gotta give. But what?

When Drake Edwin comes to her for help in finding closure with his nephew’s death, Jayce is dragged out of her apathy and into the weird and wonderful world of emotion.

Only trouble is, Drake’s nephew didn’t OD, he was murdered, and Jayce is the only one who can make good this situation.

Mixing work and pleasure is never the best idea, but when you throw murder into the scenario, it gets a thousand times worse.

Only a helping hand from the other side will get this duo together, but even ghosts can be bitter. Will Drake and Jayce ever make it? Or were they broken before they managed to meet…?
“Is he certain that Nate Cambright was behind this?”

Drake’s voice penetrates the ghostly conversation. “It’s more circumstantial than I’d like. Nate threatened David, told him he’d regret it if he went to the party where his drink was spiked.”
“Can he remember anything else?”
“What did they spike the drink with?” David asks, and I pass on the question to Drake who answers:
“Ketamine.”
“Special K?” He huffs. “Then it’s Nate. He was dealing it at school.”
When I pass that on to Drake, his eyes bug out. “Are you being serious? You knew and didn’t tell me?”
“What? And make my life a thousand times worse?” David shakes his head. “Nate’s the most arrogant SOB because of who his dad is. He thinks nothing can touch him. If people know I died of a Special K overdose, then they’ll know he was the one to spike my drink.”
“David, I’ve heard of Ketamine. It’s hallucinogenic. Before you passed, you’ll have been hallucinating. Think back,” Kenna tells him. “Do you remember anything from that time?”
“I’ve thought about that night every day since, Kenna.”
She narrows her eyes at him when he bows his head. “You’re keeping something back. I can sense it.”
“No, I’m not. Why would I?” He licks his lips. “The only thing I can remember is…well, I do remember Nate getting in my face. He was laughing at me. Taunting me.” When I tell Drake that, he bites out, “What are we going to do? He needs to pay.”
“Well, first things first, we need to get David out of here.”
Drake frowns. “How do you even do that?”
“That’s for me to know and for you not to find out.”
His glower doesn’t affect me. Hell, Kenna does nothing but glare at me for most of every, single, freakin’ day! “If it’s going to affect my nephew, then I think I deserve to know.”
David’s chest puffs up again. “That’s my uncle,” he tells Kenna, who really isn’t impressed.
“Yeah, I got that.” She rolls her eyes. “Tell him not to get his knickers in a twist.”
I sniff. “It’s not like I’m going to do something bad, for God’s sake. I’m going to make it so he’s no longer connected to this place.” As I fold my arms across my chest, I won’t lie, there’s a pout to my lips. “I thought you’d approve.”
He blinks at me. “Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh. Watch it, buster,” I snipe. “Do you want to come with me, David? Or do you like this dump?”
Apparently I’ve astounded both men, because David’s ghostly lips work but no noise pops out. He looks like a silvery goldfish. When he gulps, I know he’s way too close to tears for my own comfort. “I’d like that,” he whispers, his tone quivery. “Kenna says it’s cool where you live.”
“It’s certainly better than this shithole,” I remark, peering around the admittedly grim bookshop. But, it’s not like if I pretty up the place it will make it better for its current residents. Ghosts actually come here because it’s, well, I guess it suits their mood. Ghosts aren’t exactly happy, after all.

Serena Akeroyd is a romanceaholic. She won’t touch a book unless she knows there’s a happy ever after at the end of it. Pathetic as it may be, because of this addiction, Serena decided to craft her own tales, stories that suit her voracious need for sexy romance. After all, a love story ain’t a lurve story without a bit of naughty!
A citizen of the world, Serena is a nomad at heart, and her novels enable her to travel the globe and all behind her computer desk. Naturally, she’d prefer the option of a private jet, but still, if wishes were horses, eh?

He’s already saved her once, but he’d gladly go to hell and back to do it again.
*** WARNING: Book does end with a cliffhanger. ***

I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I have 2 older sisters and amazing parents. Growing up, I was always a daddy’s girl, hanging out with him in the garage, fishing, and building stuff. I loved to play softball and swimming, but reading, telling stories, and writing were my passion, even at a young age. I took a break from writing for a while, but you could always find me with a book in my hand.

I have three children – two boys and a girl. They are my whole world. Even when I’m having the worst day ever, they brighten up my day and make me smile.
A few years ago, there was this story that would always play out in my head and no matter how many times I went through it, from beginning to end, it would never fade. So I decided to put it on paper. I didn’t plan on publishing it, but when it was almost done, a friend asked to read it. She said it was a story that needed to be shared. And that’s what started my writing career.

I love all genres of books, and even though I started with writing MC Romance, I have a whole book of ideas, so you can expect more from me than just MC, though romance is in my blood.
Even though I currently work two jobs, my ultimate dream is to become a full time author. I want to be able to spend my days filling pages with stories. I want to be the reason people find a reason to smile or laugh from lines on a page. Reading a book allows me to live in someone else’s shoes, even if only for a few minutes. It’s a way to leave my life and troubles behind and I want to be help others do that as well.

I write urban fantasy novels for new adults. I read just about everything–fantasy, science fiction, dystopian, historical fiction, and much more. I’m also an avid LARPer. Don’t know what that is? Shoot me a message and I’ll gab your ear off about it. I love to talk with fans, so don’t be shy–be forewarned, though, I can rant a good bit.I grew up in Wilson, North Carolina. It’s a small town about an hour east of Raleigh, and I spent most of my time finding adventure, filling up notebooks with every story that came to my head, and being reprimanded by teacher’s for reading in class. room-mate_amazonThe last time I saw my best friend’s younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.

Now twenty-four, he’s broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a smirk when he studies me, he’s pure temptation.

Fresh out of a messy breakup, he doesn’t want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?

I’m holding strong until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses his biggest secret of all: he’s cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he’s a god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.

I’m calling bullshit. In fact, I’m going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed orgasms in the process, all the better.

There’s no way I’m going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start…I realize betting against him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.

It was that or she was laughing at me…

“I have no idea why I’m laughing,” she breathed. Every other word was broken by a terrible attempt at keeping her laughter inside. “But thank you. Whatever you did, I needed that.”

“Happy to be of service.”

“I’m sure you are.”

Slowly, I raised my eyebrows. “Was that an innuendo?”

She ran her hand through her hair, pushing it right back from her face, and rested her hand behind her neck. “No, but of course you took it like that.”

“If it sounds like an innuendo…”

“It’s proof that you have a dirty mind, Brett Walker. Nothing else.”

“I don’t need the innuendo to prove that.”

“As evidenced by your obsession with my boots.”

“Ah,” I smiled, “The fuck me boots.”

Her jaw dropped, but she was kind of smiling too. “Fuck me boots? You call my boots the fuck me boots?”

“Shit. Did I say that out loud?”

She nodded, desperately fighting a smile, which only made me smile wider. “Loud and clear, I’m afraid.”

“Look,” I said, lighting pulling on a bit of her hair. “If you wear boots that go up to your knees with heels, I can only assume you’re inviting me to fuck you, okay? That’s why they’re fuck me boots.”

“Okay, now this makes sense.” She dropped her hand to her lap and blinked at me. “I wore those boots to our disastrous first meeting. Is that why you’re bugging me with the dirty stuff? My boots invited you to fuck me?”

“No. I’m ‘bugging’ you ‘with the dirty stuff’ because I want to fuck you. The boots are a bonus.”

“You…want to fuck me.”

I stared at her flatly. “Yes, Lani. I want to fuck you, and you have no idea how many ways I’ve imagined it.”

“Imagined it,” she echoed.

“You’re much less sassy when you’re tired. I’m not sure I like it. This conversation would be way more fun if you were tearing me a new one.”

That snapped her out of what I could only describe as a daze. “All right. Fine. I’m going to bed. Alone,” she added as she stood. “Thank you for your sweater. I’ll add that to my list of Brett’s Gentlemanly Things.”

I got up and took the sweater from her. “Look, I’ll even open the door for you.” I stepped around her and clasped the door handle. I slowly turned it and opened the door.

“Nice.” She’d apparently found her sass again, because the word was injected with a cocky sarcasm. “Goodnight, Brett.”

“Lani?”

She stopped when she was one step inside the door. “Yeah?”

I swept my arm around her and spun her against the open front door. My grip on it kept it firmly in place as her back collided with the wood, and she inhaled at the exact same moment. Lust burned through my veins, and I took one step in front of her, pinning her to the door.

“What are you doing?” Her voice was breathy, and as I dropped my gaze to her chest, the quickness of her breathing was impossible to miss. Her chest was rising and falling like crazy.

I dipped my head so my lips ghosted over her cheek on their way to her ear. “In case you were wondering,” I murmured against her earlobe. “Against the door is one of the ways I’ve imagined fucking you. With your legs around my waist, your nails in my shoulders, and your wet pussy hugging my cock.”

She exhaled on a shudder. “Asshole,” she whispered.

I placed my fingertips on her heaving chest, right above her heart. The quick dum-dum-dum of its racing beat told me everything I needed to know–she wanted me as much as she hated me.

I stepped back with a smirk curving my lips. “Sweet dreams, kitten.”

The dreaded Professor Torres, head of the Architectural Department at Tulane, has a reputation as one of the toughest teachers on campus. He might be a successful professor, but his personal life is nothing short of a mess…

Diego Torres has the worst track record when it comes to women—which is why when he first lays eyes on his new student, he assumes she’s like all the other superficial Barbie dolls he’s always been attracted to. But it only takes a few encounters for him to realize he couldn’t have been more wrong, and the more time he spends with Violet, the more he desires her in a way no professor should desire a student.

Sometimes it’s impossible to walk away, even when there’s so much at stake…
After desperately trying avoid crossing that thin ethical line, Diego and Violet are no longer able to deny the sexual tension between them and risk everything, falling into an all-consuming, passionate relationship. But when outsiders threaten to destroy it all, Diego has no choice but to make a life-altering decision for himself and the woman he is forbidden to love.

As lines between student and professor begin to blur, the consequences might end up destroying them both…

A knock on my office door has me looking up to find Violet standing there. “Come in and please shut the door.” She does and then sits down on the other side of my desk. “Ms. Carmichael, I asked you to come meet me to discuss your design. I’d like you to answer me honestly. Who helped you?” There was no reason to beat around the bush.

“What do you mean, who helped me? No one did.” I see that familiar spark in her eyes. “Do you really think I’d turn in something that I honestly didn’t do by myself?”

“Well, Ms. Carmichael, people will sometimes do anything to make themselves look good.”

Violet pushes herself up until she’s standing and slaps her hands on my desk. “Are you kidding me right now? I did that design all by myself. How dare you accuse me of having someone help me? I’ll show you right now that I did it alone.” She grabs her laptop out of her bag and slaps it on my desk.

I watch in stunned silence as she pulls up a program on her laptop and starts tapping away on her
keyboard. She stops and picks it up, coming around to my side, and I watch as she works with a speed that seriously impresses me. It’s very obvious that I’ve made a mistake here. Violet knows what she’s doing and is confident in her work. Before I can stop myself, I reach out and place my hand on her arm to stop her typing.

“Why’d you stop me?” she asks as I stand up. We’re so close we’re almost touching. This close to her, I can see the gold flecks in her eyes.

“I believe you. I’m sorry I thought you had help. Yours was the best I’ve seen in a long time.” I warm inside when I watch a touch of pink bloom on her cheeks. “You’re extremely gifted.” I feel myself lean toward her and feel her lean toward me. It’s like we’re two magnets, and the pull is intense. I’ve never in my life felt this kind of pull toward someone. If I’m being honest, it freaks me out just a little. Right now I’d give my left nut to be able to mark her, to taste her.

My office phone ringing breaks the spell, and we both lean back. Violet doesn’t say a word—she just stares at me with those hypnotic eyes of hers. The phone stops ringing, but I don’t care.

She finally speaks. “Um…th-thank you for believing me. I should probably go.”

Violet’s gone before I can even stop her.

About ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE:

There’s no such thing as a little in love . . .

Elle Wheaton’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust . . .

Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco earthquake and he craves her 24/7, but Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as . . .

As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along . . .

EXCERPT

His hand caught her, long fingers wrapping around her elbow and causing all sorts of unwelcome sensations as he pulled her back around.

“What?” she asked.

“Waiting for my apology.”

“Sure,” she said agreeably. “When hell freezes over.” She lifted her chin, grateful for her four-inch heels so that she could almost, kind of, not quite look him in the eyes. “I’m in charge of this building, Archer, which means I’m in charge of everything that happens in it. I’m also in charge of everyone who works for this building.”

He cocked his head, looking amused again. “You want to be the boss of me, Elle?” he asked softly.

I am the boss of you.”

Now he outright smiled and her breath caught. Damn, stupid, sexy smile. And then there was The Body. Yes, she thought of it in capital letters, it deserved the respect. “If you don’t want to be walking funny tomorrow,” she said, “you’ll stop invading my personal-space bubble.”

Complete bravado and they both knew it. She’d only been at this job for a year and it’d come as a surprise to her that he’d been in the building at all. An unfortunate coincidence. Before that it’d been years since they’d had any contact, but she still knew enough to get that no one got the better of him.

He was quick, light on his feet, and physically strong. But that wasn’t what made him so dangerous to her. No, it was his sharp intelligence, his quick wit, how he was willing to go as dark as he needed to in order to do what he thought was right.

And then there was the biggie—the way he had of making her feel shockingly alive.

He did as she asked and stepped back but not before pausing to make sure they both knew who was in control here, and it most definitely wasn’t her.

No one did intimidation like Archer, and in his line of work he could be in a coma and still intimidate everyone in the room. He had muscles on top of muscles but didn’t look beefed up like a body builder might. Instead his body seemed lean and seriously badass, with caramel skin that strayed from light to golden to mocha latte depending on what the season was, giving him a look of indeterminable origin.

And sexiness.

It worked for him, allowing him to fit in to just about any situation. Handy on the job, she imagined. But with her he was careful. Distant. And yet she’d seen the way he sometimes looked at her, and on the rare occasion when he’d touched her, like when he guided her through a door with his hand low on her back, he let himself linger. There was always a shocking and baffling yearning beyond both the glances and the touches.

That, or it was all just wishful thinking.

Not that it mattered since he still held back with her. The problem was she yearned too. Yearned for him to see her as a woman, strong and capable enough to stand at his side.

But after what they’d been through, she knew that would never happen. She turned away, annoyed by how her entire body had gone on high alert as always, every inch of her seeming to hum beneath the surface.

She should have just emailed him.

 Archer!!! 😍😍
Elle had a rough start in life but she’s determined to overcome it. She doesn’t need anyone but herself and makes sure everyone knows that.
Archer, super alpha hottie, has been keeping an eye out for Elle for a long time. He’s wanted to make sure she gets good things in life and protects her, whether she likes it or not.
Elle and Archer have such a strong intensity. They both like each other, even though they don’t want to but fight fiercely. Archer has to convince Elle to let go and rely on others and Elle is teaching Archer the same.
I LOVE these Heartbreaker Bay novels! I love the characters, the stories, and just the hometown feel. I hope we get to see some more of Archer’s mens’ stories. I’m curious about Joe.

5 stars!

Synopsis:

Growing up in a small town isn’t easy, especially when you’re the daughter of a local cult leader. Ten years ago, Eden Collins left Clear Springs, Montana, and never once looked back. But when the bodies of murdered young women surface, their corpses violated and marked with tattoos worn by her mother’s followers, Eden, now an FBI agent, can’t turn a blind eye. To catch the killer, she’s going to have to return to the fold.

Sheriff Zach Owens isn’t comfortable putting Eden in danger, even if she is an elite agent. And he certainly wasn’t expecting to be so attracted to her. As calm and cool as she appears, he knows this can’t be a happy homecoming. Zach wants to protect her—from her mother, the cult, and the evil that lurks behind its locked gates. But Eden is his only key to the tight-lipped group, and she may just be closer to the killer than either one of them suspects…

TBRreview

As someone who loves Criminal Minds and watching Leah Remini’s show Aftermath, this book was PERFECT for me!

FBI Agent Eden is coming back to Clear Springs to help solve a murder in her hometown. Her mother runs the local cult, Elysia, and has for years. Eden sees a picture of a body of a victim and sees some similarities between the victim and cult practices so she comes home to consult and get inside information from her mother.

Sheriff Zach Owens remembers Eden from when she lived in Clear Springs. And her just showing up seems suspicious to him. So he’s not entirely trusting of her. But he’s also fiercely attracted to her and doesn’t want to put her in danger, especially with a killer on the loose.

I can’t wait to read more of this series! It totally is something that anyone who likes suspense, romance, thrillers would appreciate.

5 stars!
