Ever since I skipped town last May to avoid a stalker, the threats against me have stopped, but my boredom is at an all-time high, and so is my anxiety. My family is in a particular line of work that makes a lot of enemies. That’s right, I am a mafia princess. Working at the Sex On The Beach nightclub on the Atlantic City Boardwalk has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. I hate what that says about who I used to be. I know my family would hate that I even work here if I had told them where I was.

If the name does not tell you what this club is all about, the atmosphere and pretty much general lack of morals will. It looks like a seventies porno set threw up in here and left shag carpeting and bright colored furniture behind. It is a monstrosity for sure. I am not sure who is behind the threats, but I knew I had to leave to protect my family and myself. It started with notes showing up in my purse whenever I was out. I opened them and promptly tossed them. Threats are not new to the Vitali family, and that is how we handled them. My immediate family consists of my father, Fabrizio, my mother, Fawn, my oldest brother, Brando; still older than me brother, Bartolo; then me; and finally, the youngest, Bella. I have a million cousins, though my favorite is Albie. However, our “you can’t touch me” mentality had run its course when I received a picture of my younger sister, Bella. It was taken up close, but you could tell she had no idea she was being photographed. She was laughing with a boy from her Drama class. That note gave me two options: either marry the stalker, whoever he is, or disappear forever. The picture told me that Bella would face the brunt of refusal to do either. I chose the latter and took only cash, my important documents, and clothes, leaving my cell phone and credit cards behind. However, the first thing I bought was a new phone. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to not talk to my mom. For some reason, I didn’t think that it was fair of me to drag my family into a fight they had nothing to do with. They have enough going on with the day to day shit they deal with.

I drove until I reached the ocean, which I have always been fascinated with. Atlantic City seemed far enough away to be safe but close enough if I decided to risk it and head home. I rented an apartment above a butcher shop and have been working for almost a year now, but I miss my family and my mom’s authentic Italian cooking. I cannot even remember the last time I had a meal that did not come from the bar or a fast food joint. If I am honest, I miss my mom’s hugs more than anything. At least I get to talk to her every once in a while, but it’s just not the same. Last year, I graduated from NYU with a dual certification in elementary education and secondary history with a minor in History. I got certified to be a teacher in New York, but then all this happened, and I never got a chance to get a job.

I don’t just kiss Candace, I ravish her, I drink her in like a man lost in a desert, dying of a thirst he cannot quench. And I was until I found her again. What’s worse is, that desert was of my own making, a desolate fucking desert I’m done with because, thank fuck, she’s not done with me.

Hugging her close, I hold her like this moment is it, like this is the last time I might ever hold her again. I kiss her just the same, like I will never kiss her again. My mouth slants over hers, my tongue licking deeply, possessively and I make sure every answer she wants is right there in this kiss. I make sure she knows that I’m not fucking living another day without her. She moans into my mouth and when my hands settle on her spine, she arches into me. I rotate her toward the couch, pressing her against the back, my hands finding that soft smooth skin under her T-shirt.

Goosebumps lift on her skin and I tear my mouth from hers. “You have always been exactly what I need.”

“Am I?”

Oh how I needed this book! I needed to know how Savage and Candace navigate through this craziness and espionage that they’ve been living in. Oh I should say you MUST read books 1 and 2 first or this book won’t make any sense. Plus you have to get to know both Candace and Rick.

This whole series had me guessing the whole time. Who is on the “good” side, who is a liar, who can’t you trust? Who CAN you trust? This whole series makes you second guess everything you think you have figured out.

The only thing you can be sure of throughout this whole trilogy: that Rick Savage will protect Candace with everything he has.

Abby steps in front of me to head him off. “Ethan,” she pleads. “Let me explain.”

He ignores her and tries to sidestep her, but she’s too quick and too determined to keep the peace.

“You son of a bitch!” he spits at me.

“Ethan, please,” she begs.

“You said you loved her!” he yells, trying to push past Abby, her palms pressed against his chest to keep him from getting too close to me.“You said you fucking loved her.” His finger points at me accusingly.

Abby freezes with her arms still raised defensively and turns to me with a stunned expression and wide eyes. Shit. This is not how I wanted her to find out. I never told her I loved her. I should have just told her back then. Back before things got so complicated. Back before she thought I was a lying piece of shit.

“What?” she asks, unbelieving, her voice straining on a suppressed sob. I run my hand through my hair and release a pent-up breath.

“This lying son of a bitch told us he loved you. The night Caleb drugged you and tried to take you.” Abby winces at the memory and I want to deck him for bringing it up. “He wouldn’t let anyone else ride in the ambulance with you. Not Tiff, not even me. And I believed his bullshit.”

“It wasn’t bullshit.”

“The fuck it wasn’t.”

“It was true.” I turn my attention from Ethan and stare down into Abby’s stunned face. “It is true. I should’ve told you.” Of everything we left unsaid, that’s the part I regret the most. I reach down and tuck a strand of dark, wavy hair behind her ear. “Maybe if I had, this whole mess wouldn’t have happened. You would have known how I felt and wouldn’t have doubted me.”

Meet the author:
DL Gallie is from Queensland, Australia, but she’s lived in many different places all over the world. She currently resides in Gladstone with her husband and two kids. She and her husband have been together since she was sixteen, and although they drive each other crazy at times, she couldn’t imagine her life without him.

Shortly after her son was born, DL began reading again. With encouragement from her husband, she picked up the pen and started writing, and now the voices in her head won’t shut up.

DL enjoys listening to music, drinking white wine in the summer, red wine in the winter, and beer all year round. She’s also never been known to turn down a cocktail, especially a margarita.
