Excerpt

Tomorrow comes awfully fast and the day flies by. Maybe it’s because I’m not exactly thrilled about watching people have sex all by myself. It makes me wonder what kind of things people ask to see when they have requests. All I can say is that I feel like a creeper.

Chris walks into my office and stops when he gets a good look at my face. “Whoa, why are you so red?”

Glancing at the clock, I sigh. “Because in a couple of hours, I have to watch three people have sex in the viewing room.” He knows that I’m doing my own investigative work, but I never told him exactly what I’m doing until now.

He bursts out laughing. “Are you serious? What if it’s not the guy you’re looking for?”

I shrug. “Then I guess I’ll be watching these people have sex.”

“This is classic. I was going to ask you to go to dinner with me, but you’ll be too busy.”

I roll my eyes. “Ha-ha. I’d much rather be getting some dinner. I think I’m just going to stay here until it’s time to go.”

He tries to hide his smile and fails. “Have fun with that. You’ll have to let me know how it went in the morning.” He chuckles the entire time he walks to his office and then out the front door. I’ll never be able to escape him now; he’ll make fun of me for the rest of our lives.

Once everyone leaves, I eat the rest of my turkey sandwich I had left over from lunch while I look over my notes on Chad Bates. Jennifer never texted to tell me if he was going to be at the club or not, so I guess I’ll just have to find out when I get there. I wonder if Hunter’s ever done something like that … had sex with two girls on stage in front of an audience. That’s one of the reasons why I can never get serious about him. How can I when he does that for a living?

My time is running out so I close up the office and head to the club. The parking lot is packed, but I slip on my necklace and get out of the car. I try to ignore the evil looks from everyone standing in line as I walk up to the door. Luckily, Jared is right inside, dressed in his tux and his dark hair perfectly coifed.

“Good evening,” he says, taking my purse. It’s going to be hard to pin anything on Chad without physical proof. Maybe I can try to sneak in a hidden camera next time. Jared nods for me to follow him and we go through the door that leads to the sex rooms. Placing his hand on the doorknob, he smiles at me. “You ready?”

I laugh. “I hope so.”

We walk inside and he points to the purple, velvet couch. It’s the same place my co-workers sat when Hunter and I were on stage. “All you have to do is sit here and watch the show. If for some reason you have to leave, just press that blue button,” he says, pointing to it on the wall. “That way, I’ll know to come in and get you.”

I nod. “Thanks. I think I got it.”

He starts toward the door. “Enjoy the show.”

Ok, first off you NEED to read Beautiful Masterpiece first. The plotlines in Beautiful Sacrifice will make so much more sense if you do. Plus, it is an AMAZING, suspenseful read!

Some might know this about me, some might not; I’m a true crime, criminal justice, forensic psychology fanatic! And this book checks off all those boxes PLUS romance! There’s no way to go wrong here! You can tell the author has put in a lot of time and effort to make this a believeable story and not a re-telling of Psycho/Silence of the Lambs/etc.

On to the story, we met Avery Grant in Madison’s story. We got to see her overwhelming drive and competitiveness to stay the top graduate from the FBI Academy. Now we see her and Madison heading off to their first case – and it’s a doozy.

Enter Detective Evan Bradley, who strikes Avery but she won’t let that show. She’s spent a lifetime hardening herself to “feelings” and “love” but that doesn’t seem to matter too much when it comes to Evan….

A wave of nausea crashed over him. No, no, no… fuck, no. He squeezed his eyes shut until the feeling dissipated. An icy coldness snaked through his extremities, right down to his fingers. No longer were they itching to run through the waves cascading over her shoulders. Flexing them was futile. What the hell? The overhead light danced atop her golden hair. He squinted. It almost looked like a halo. And were those doves floating around her head? Somewhere in his increasingly foggy mind, he registered some kind of faint whistling. Was it the doves? Or was he just fucking insane? Numbness slowly crept over the stitched area and his mind grew cloudier. Christ, how much did Evan give him? No way was this a normal dose.

A warm hand grazed his arm. “Do you want me to call the doctor? You look a little, um, off.” Her brow furrowed. “How about some water?”

Four eyes stared back. Did she have a twin? Where had she come from? Mmm, that kind of threesome was right up his alley. “You two are so beautiful, you know that?”

“Who two?” She gnawed at her fingernail. “Maybe I should get someone. I don’t think—”

“No, don’t leave. Please. I feel great. I just want to keep looking at you guys, okay?” Voices echoed around him. How many more sisters did she have? And how did they all get into his room? So much for hospital security.

“Um, sure. You know we’re alone, right? Just you and me?”

“Yes, and your sisters. Stop biting your nails and hold my hand. The one that’s not sliced up.”

“Are you always this demanding?”

“I took a knife for you. So yeah, I think I earned the right.” He let out a deep sigh as their fingers entwined. Soft and warm. His eyelids were so heavy; forcing them to stay open was a near-impossible feat. “You like tattoos, huh?”

“Tattoos?” She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a smirk lifting her lips. “I’m not so sure we’re still on the same wavelength. What kind of painkillers did they give you?”

“I don’t know, but I can’t feel my legs anymore.”

“I’m kind of surprised your mouth still works.”

“Happy to say it’s not the only thing.”

“And here I was, thinking you weren’t as big a womanizer as the tabloids claim.”

“They don’t know me.”

“Does anybody?”

“No.” He could barely even hear his own voice. It sounded so far away, like he was speaking from deep within a cave. A snicker escaped his mouth. Where did all the cotton come from? “I feel drunk and massively hung over right now.”

She leaned closer, the scent of her perfume wafting into the air. Recalling his own name was a struggle, but even with his weakened senses, he was acutely aware of her nearness. The sensation of slender fingers smoothing back his hair lulled him to sleep. Her touch was so gentle, like a soft breeze fluttering over his skin. His mind begged him to stay focused but the eyelids drooped in utter betrayal. Even her hands smelled amazing, like flowers and… jelly beans. Warm lips grazed his forehead. He squeezed her hand with the last of his rapidly depleting energy store, struggling to open his eyes one final time. A sea of smiling faces gazed back. “Promise you’ll visit tomorrow, okay? Bring all your sisters, too.”

This book is HOT! AJ and Lisa weren’t looking for each other, especially not a relationship but they just couldn’t stay away from each other. They are just such a hot and sexy couple!!

A few minutes later my phone vibrated on the table, and I read a text message that sent shivers down my body.

I want you, Claire. I’ll make you beg. I’ll fuck you until you can’t feel your legs. Whisper in your ear to come for me while you dig your nails into my back.

“Oh my God,” I blushed uncontrollably as his hand made its way back onto my legs. “Jake, stop!”

“Do you really want me to?” he whispered, moving steadily upward. “Tell me you really want me to, and I will.”

I should have. I knew that I should have. I should have made Jake stop. We were in the library, for crying out loud. People studied there. And we weren’t alone.

I looked around. I didn’t see any cameras. At the same time, that sneaky hand reached the inside of my thigh. I gasped, closing my eyes.

“I’ll stop. I will.” His hand disappeared up my skirt.

I opened my legs slightly, aching for his touch.

“Hmm,” he whispered, “I think you want me to keep going.”

This was a sweet story. Claire and Jake are two vastly different people who are thrown together. Jake needs a tutor and Claire is assigned. Claire doesn’t like jocks – for a valid reason – and she thinks that Jake will be the same way. Jake can’t understand why Claire’s opinion matters to him except that it does. Then he realizes he’s into her and she’s special to him.

Add in friends, other jocks and this “study” relationship isn’t quite so simple…

This book is heartbreakingly sweet. And a quick read.

Kinsley was just diagnosed with breast cancer and she goes home to be around her family (dad) and not the spotlight of Nashville while she’s going through Chemo. Now I’ve known people who have gone through chemo and it’s not a cake walk by any means. So it’s totally understandable that up-and-coming country star wants to go through this away from prying paparazzi eyes.

While she’s home, she comes back into contact with Beau, a boy she went to school with for 12 years. Beau had a crush on Kinsley all through those years and he’s determined to be with Kinsley and help her through this tough time.

A very sweet, poignant read!

I just finished and WOW! Reading the synopsis, yes that’s what happens but SO much more! WAY more than I had planned on. I was reading it and was HOOKED!

This is another book I am not going to go into detail with because you have to read it to experience it. And there’s no way my review can or will do this book justice!

Bizzy is a crack up and the Bennett boys – at least Nicky and Shaw – are in awe of her when she’s a teen going through chemo. As time passes, Mathis adopts Bizzy as well and they’re all the older brothers Bizzy didn’t have. Until one day Shaw sees Bizzy as the vivacious, sweet, caring woman she’s always been and who has been in love with him for 10 years. But that’s just the start of it.

Bizzy and Shaw have one crazy road to travel on their way to forever. And Nicky, Mathis, Claire and the rest of their families are along for the ride. And oh how I hope those 3 each get a story….

About the Author:

Ahren spent her formative years living in an active volcano. There her family made collectible lava art. She studied rock collecting at the Sorbonne in France. There she met the love of her life-her pet pig Sybil. She returned to the states and started writing. She is happily married to a guy who used to live under a bridge and she met while pole-dancing. They have one amazing daughter.

“So, what are we doing today? Cardio? Weights? ” He started walking towards the locker rooms to change. A small jolt of anticipation raced through me imagining him hot and sweaty, his arms bulging from the exertion of pushing weights. I bit down on my lip trailing my gaze down his muscular back to his firm, pert arse. God, he had a fine backside.

He stopped suddenly and turned causing me to stumble into him. His arms extended quickly to grasp my waist, preventing me from an embarrassing and ungainly arse plant on the floor.

“I’ve been thinking,” he said, his eyes raking over my body. “I might start swimming again to spice up my routine.”

Good God. The thought of his already athletic body showcased in Speedos with droplets of water dribbling down his lightly tanned chest had my pulse racing and my tongue begging to reach out for a taste.

It was difficult to decide which visual was better—Adam in swimwear, water droplets trickling down his body as he raked a hand through his wet hair. Adam in workout wear, sweaty with muscles bulging and veins popping, and his sounds of exertion… Oh, God. Or Adam in one of his hotter than sin suits, looking all powerful and dominant.

“Are you okay, Cass? You’ve gone very red.” A large palm pressed against my cheek and forehead. “You feel a bit clammy.” The hand moved to my neck, stroking over my sensitive pulse point. “And your pulse is racing.”

Suddenly, I was lifted off my feet, engulfed in strong arms as Adam carried me toward the private staff area.

Yanking myself from x-rated visions of Adam’s aquatic and other sexy as hell adventures, I shrieked, locking my hands behind his neck.

“What are you doing? I’m fine, you nut. Put me down.” I laughed, twisting my fingers into the overlong strands of his honey-blond hair.

“I thought you were ill,” he muttered, sliding me down his body, my feet still dangling off the floor. Our faces were now inches apart, intimately close.

His stormy blue eyes met my brown ones, the magnetism between them firm, unyielding. Under my touch his shoulders lifted and fell, his lungs sucking in a deep breath of… what? Anticipation, longing? A large knot of lust lodged itself within the walls of my throat, preventing me from being able to swallow. For the longest moment, we stood mute, our eyes and the deafening silence communicating a multitude of thoughts and questions.

He shifted his arms, the movement jostling my chest against his. A shiver of need misted over my bared flesh. Goosebumps erupted, and my nipples tightened beneath the white cotton of my sports bra.

God, what was I doing? I had to rein these feelings in. He was my friend, a close friend. Someone I’d come to trust and respect.

I untangled myself, my feet hitting the floor, and I took two steps back before I decided to tackle him right there in the GO lobby. “I’m fine,” I mumbled, forcing myself to appear unaffected and meet his gaze.

Blinking several times, Adam took a moment to come back from the haze of whatever weird cosmic connection it was we’d just shared. With a brief shake of his head and a swipe of fingers through his hair, he too took a step back, further breaking the invisible threads that had been pulling us together.

Oy this book!! It was definitely right when it said there might be some triggers; but they just make the whole story better. You don’t have to read this after Prepared to Fight but you should as that’s where we first meet Adam and Cassie.

Adam’s life is less than ideal so he has a drunken one night stand with a friend. Trying to forget that girl he loves, Liv, is married to someone else.

Meanwhile, Cassie is training to become a kickboxing phenom, trained by her boyfriend Jay. Who over time, Cassie finally notices that Jay has been cutting her off from other people, taking over her life – a domestic abuser in the making eh?

Cassie and Adam’s friendship gets deeper as they try to fight their feelings while Cassie is preparing to fight to break free of Jay.
