TBRreview

Ok so for my second Kylie Scott read of today, and I love it just as much as the first. Like I said with Dirty, I haven’t read Kylie Scott before and dear god will I be fixing that STAT!

Alex Parks is headed to Dive Bar to meet Eric, the guy she’s been conversing with online for months. What a shock when it’s not pretty boy Eric but his hot Bigfoot brother Joe. Who I would climb like a tree. But moving on.

Alex can’t believe that the person she’s opened up to over months isn’t who she thought he was. Although considering the real Eric, I think Joe was a better option. No offense Eric. But Alex is more of a homebody so this was a BIG step for her.

Joe knew he should have just stopped talking to Alex online as his brother but he was just liked having an outlet that didn’t know his family, his friends and just someone to talk to.

Another confession, yes I have talked to men online. And I have met some. Thankfully, they have been exactly who they portrayed themselves to be. And one is even a really good friend. But I totally understand how hurt Alex was by Joe being Eric online.

5 stars!

Title: Beyond Love
Series: Imperfect Heroes, Book 4
Author: C.J. Pinard
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Military Romance
Release Date: April 11, 2017
Cover Designer: Book Cover By Design
Photographer: Lindee Robinson
He’s been broken, repaired, and has finally risen above his devastating injury.
She’s a cute, foul-mouthed nurse with an attitude as big as the ocean, but has a caring heart even bigger.
They once loved each other back when life was simple and being an adult wasn’t an issue. What was once a beautiful love turned into a devastating heartbreak. Are they brave enough to give it another try now that life is complicated and ugly? Because while their circumstances once tore them apart, love was never their problem.
KYLE
Eighteen years old when she broke my heart. Eighteen years old when I left to join the Marine Corps, knowing when I got back, she would not be there waiting for me. I never expected to see her ten years later, all heartbroken and humbled. I just don’t know if I can go there again with Adria Green. She’s short, sassy, and even more stubborn than she was when we were kids – and painfully more beautiful. So why do I find myself completely and inexplicably drawn to her? Because what drew me to her back then has been reignited without my permission, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to douse the old flame. I’ve already lost half a leg. I can’t lose my heart, too.

ADRIA
Am I to blame for my actions when I was just a kid and starting out at life? I was stupid back then, but I’m not stupid anymore. I’m educated, confident, and after my ex-fiancé cheated on me and left, I’m even more careful with who’s going to get my heart. Seeing Kyle Adams after all these years made my heart stop and then almost drop out of my chest. He’s even more gorgeous and considerably more built than he was when we were in high school – despite the injury. I feel myself being pulled toward him like nothing I’ve ever felt, not even back then. But can we go there again? Can you really and truly go back? No, I don’t believe you can. I’m just not sure I can go forward now, either.
Beyond Love is book 4 in the Imperfect Heroes Series, and is for readers 18+. Contains adult situations, language, and minor scenes of war.

I parked in my designated spot in my apartment complex’s lot and unbuckled Luke, pulling him out and setting him down. I handed him his backpack and held his hand as we made our way to our first-floor apartment. Lucy followed faithfully at my side.

“Can we go swimming, Dad?” he asked, eyeing the pool.

“You calling me Dad again?” I asked, smiling. He could always make me smile even when I didn’t want to.

“Okay, Daddy. Can we?”

I ruffled his hair and said, “No, let’s get something to eat. I’m starving. Aren’t you?”

“What’s for dinner?” he asked as I looked down at him, and then my keyring to get my house key ready.

We rounded the corner to my unit and I heard, “Chinese takeout.”

I looked up to see Adria sitting on my front step’s mat, sitting cross-legged, wearing shorts and a tank top. Beside her sat two white bags with takeout containers in them.

I froze for a minute, and then a huge grin spread across my face.

Luke froze. “Who’s that, Daddy?” he whispered.

Adria stood and walked to meet us. Crouching down, she said, “Hi, Luke. I’m Adria. We met at Duke’s house at the barbeque a few weeks ago. Do you remember that?”

He shook his head and looked up at me.

“Say hello, son.”

“Hi,” he said, a small smile on his face.

She put her hand out. “It’s very nice to meet you. Your dad has so many nice things to say about you.”

Luke’s eyes got big and he looked up at me, then back at her. “Really?”

She tapped his little nose and stood up, laughing quietly. “Yep.”

I couldn’t stop staring at Adria with my son. It was beautiful. She was beautiful, and he wasn’t being his usual shy self around her.

She picked up the bags and said, “Do you like Chinese food?”

He looked up at me. “What’s that?”

“You will love it,” I told him. I’d never given him any since we rarely ate out.

He smiled.

I opened the door to the apartment and prayed it was clean. Well, clean enough. I kept it picked up most of the time, but today had been such a blur I couldn’t remember.

Adria wasted no time finding the kitchen and opening up the bags. I sort of felt like it was weird that she was here without any notice or explanation, but knowing what I knew about her, I knew she would tell me. I was touched by her generosity nonetheless.

“Luke, go put your backpack in your room, then go wash your hands, please.”

“Okay, Daddy.”

As he disappeared around the corner, I went behind Adria and purposely pressed my body against her backside as she attempted to open the high cabinets to find plates. Easily opening one and pulling out two plates for us, I placed them in front of her on the counter.

With a smirk on her face, she turned around and looked up at me. “I had that.”

“No, you didn’t,” I replied.

“Okay, I didn’t,” she whispered as she stared up at me with curious brown eyes.

I pointed to the food. “Are you always this spontaneous?”

She shook her head. “Harper told me where you went today. I didn’t want you to be alone tonight. Whether you are celebrating or sad, I wanted to be here. It just felt right.”

Damn, did she know me or what? “I’m kinda speechless,” I said, not breaking eye contact, but pulling back from her even though I didn’t want to. I grabbed three forks from the drawer, and Luke’s favorite plastic Batman plate from another cabinet, and set them on the small table I kept in the kitchen.

“I’m hungry,” my son said, coming into the kitchen.

“Have a seat and I’ll get you some food.”

He went over to the chair he always sat in and waited for us. I poured him a glass of milk first and set it in front of him.

“I don’t have much to drink here,” I said to her, “but you can take a look.”

She sat down next to Luke and said, “Water is fine.”

I nodded and poured two glasses of ice water and went to join them at the table.

As we feasted on lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and dumplings, I looked at the way Adria was interacting with my son and all thoughts of Marissa, the lawyer, and the five hundred bucks I’d had to drop today melted into a happiness that spread across my face.
After dinner, I gave Luke a quick bath and put him to bed. It was a little early, but I’d been at the lawyer’s office longer than I’d thought and had gotten home a little later than usual.

I closed my son’s door, leaving it cracked, and went into the kitchen to find Adria putting the leftovers into my small fridge and throwing away excess trash. She set the dishes near the sink and I gently grabbed her wrist to keep her from turning on the faucet. “Leave the dishes.”

She gave me a half-smile. “If you say so.”

After watching her nice legs and luscious plump ass walking around my small kitchen, I really could not form an intelligible word, so I decided words were not necessary. I wrapped my long arm around her waist and pulled her into my body. Without a word, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. I was rewarded with her snaking her arms around my neck, and when I licked the seam of her lips, she opened them for me like a good girl. I groaned and pushed myself into her harder, backing her up onto the kitchen counter until she had nowhere else to go. Reaching around, I firmly gripped both ass cheeks and hoisted her up so she had no choice but to put both legs around my waist.

Her breaths were heady and fast when she came up for air between kisses, and I couldn’t get enough. I bit down on her bottom lip, and I moaned when she sucked my tongue into her mouth and played with it.

My dick was so hard it was almost painful. The heat from between her legs and the way she grinded on it was going to make me lose it, and that was the last thing I wanted. I needed to take things slow, explore her naked body with a deliberate appreciation that would make it unforgettable for the both of us. Breaking the kiss, I reached up to cup my hand along her small jaw, and with the pad of my thumb, I ran it across her chin and said, “I’ve missed you so much.”

Her once-hooded eyes got big and she smiled. “You have no idea how much I’ve thought about you over the past ten years.”

I grinned. “And that is why I want to thank you for the Chinese food, and also let you know that you need to leave.”

TBRreview.pngOk confession time, one of my secret loves is the injured male/female nurse/PT or whatever genre. So this was a given. Plus I just love the name Adria.

Kyle and Adria aka Ky and Little Flower, are an amazing couple of teenagers. Kyle wants to enlist in the Marines and Adria can’t handle that, so they break up.

Fast forward 10 years where Kyle and Adria are back in each other’s lives and might have a second chance.

I haven’t read this series but I definitely will be. I loved the characters and how flawed but real they were.

Blog Tour & Review ~ Rock My World ~ by ~ Lee Piper

Title: Rock My World
Series: A Mondez Novel, 1
Author: Lee Piper
Genre: Contemporary Romance
High school teacher Grace Thompson didn’t want to be a mentor. And she sure as hell didn’t want to mentor Levi Mondez.
They got off to a rocky start, but it wasn’t entirely her fault. How was she to know he was the lead singer of local rock band, Mondez? How was she to know he considered her short temper a turn on? And how was she to know her best friend, Riley, would fall for him?

If he wasn’t so damn gorgeous it might have made the whole mess easier to handle. If he didn’t transform Grace into a blazing furnace of need, and if he hadn’t confused the hell out of her already bruised heart, life might have turned out a heck of a lot differently. She was screwed.

We were alone.

Guess it had to happen sooner or later.

I took a deep breath and turned to face Levi. He hadn’t moved from behind the desk and was watching me closely with an unreadable expression on his face. Once again, I lost the power of speech. This was going to become a real problem over the next six weeks if I didn’t get a handle on it soon and I desperately hoped I wouldn’t have to resort to communicating with him in other ways … like through interpretive dance.

Levi slowly stood, never once breaking eye contact with me. He put his notebook and pen away in the leather satchel before swinging it over his shoulder and slowly making his way towards me.

I gulped.

This man held me completely spellbound by the intensity in his gaze. And if I didn’t do something in the next few seconds to break the magnetic pull between us, I would either internally combust or beg him to put me out of my misery.

“We, ah, should really be heading back.”

Genius. Pure genius, Grace.

He completely ignored me and stopped a few inches away before slowly leaning down to murmur in my ear. “You were amazing.”

My brow furrowed and I stepped back, staring squarely up at him. “I was helping students draft their work, Levi, not solving the world hunger crisis.”

“When are you going to learn to take a compliment, kitten?”

“At about the same time you stop giving them.”

He smiled down at me and a small grin played about the corner of my lips. Parrying with him was growing dangerously enjoyable. I quickly turned and grabbed my belongings from the spare desk I’d dumped them on at the start of the lesson.

“We should really be going. I’ve got a double free period next but we’ll probably need that time to clear out some desk space in my office and find you a chair.”

“Yeah, that might take a while.”

Look…” For some reason I felt the need to grow defensive over my non-existent organizational habits. Don’t ask me why. “I wasn’t exactly expecting to have a student teacher when I first arrived at school today, okay? And I sure as hell wasn’t ready for it to be you, so just—” I paused mid-sentence. Levi’s face broke into a grin of swoon-worthy proportions and I was having a hard time remembering where I was going with my rant. He stepped towards me again and this time I didn’t move back. I mean, I honestly didn’t trust my legs with any given movement. So I also didn’t stop Levi as he gently brushed the backs of his fingers down the side of my face before tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear.

“Relax, kitten,” he all but purred.

Easy for him to say, he wasn’t the one currently fighting a losing battle against gravity.

“We’ll get it sorted out. There’s no need to get your panties in a twist.”

My eyes popped open in shock. “Don’t think for one second that you’re having any effect whatsoever on my panties,” I growled out.

Liar.

He just grinned wider and brushed his thumb across my bottom lip.

I couldn’t help myself. I opened my mouth and bit down on it.

Levi inhaled sharply from my involuntary assault and his pupils dilated to an alarming degree.

Fuck.

What was I doing?

So, before Teacher Grace could appear and cane my sordid ass, I released his thumb from between my teeth, spun on my heel and wrenched the door open. To say I essentially bolted back to my office would not have been an understatement. And to be blunt, I honestly didn’t give a shit if Levi followed me or if he got lost along the way.

Grace has had a tough life, specifically the last year. Events have made her more closed off from people and emotions. Riley her BFF drags her to a club to see a band. The lead singer, Levi, sparks something in Grace. And she’s not appreciating it. Especially when Levi is her new student teacher.
Levi has been into Grace from day 1 and wants to spend more time with her. How fortunate that he’ll be mentoring under Grace
A sweet, story with twists and turns. Nothing is as it seems for Grace or for Levi.

Excerpt

It was day five, and Drew was done with just watching. He waited until Hannah started unlocking the metal casing before leaving the cover of the alley, making his way across the street toward her. His sneakers were silent on the pavement, making it easy for him to come up behind her with no warning. She had slid the metal casing up and had unlocked the front door and was pulling it open. He was two steps behind her as he slid through the open door, bells tinkling overhead, before it could close on him. Humming distractedly, she still hadn’t realized that he was behind her and in the shop with her. What she was humming stopped him cold. “Into The Mystic.” The song they had danced to at his beach house.

“Hannah.”

His voice was low and gruff. His palms were sweating and his pulse was in overdrive. She shrieked in surprise as she spun around, her eyes growing wide when they landed on him. “Holy shit, Drew! What the hell are you doing here?”

Her hand flew up to her chest as if to try and still her heart before her face darkened in anger.

“Are you trying to give me a god damn heart attack?”

He took a step closer to her, and then stopped when she took two steps back. He reached his hand up, pushing the hood of his sweatshirt down off his head as he raked his fingers through his hair. He brought his hands down near his waist, palms up, in an attempt to show her he meant her no harm.

“I’m sorry. I just— Jesus Hannah, I’d forgotten how beautiful you are.”

She stared at him, her features softening a bit as she let out a sigh.

“Drew, what are you doing here?”

“I want—no, I need to talk to you.”

She unwrapped the scarf from her neck and then unbuttoned her coat. She said nothing as she moved to hang them up in the closet.

“I’m not really sure there’s anything to say.”

His eyes followed her as she walked around and settled on the opposite side of the work table from him. “What do you mean there’s nothing to say? I saw you with your daughter. And your husband. Is he your ex-husband? You said you weren’t married, but are you? I haven’t seen him here with you since that day.”

Hannah’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean you haven’t seen him here? Have you been watching me?”

He took a deep breath as he realized his mistake. Damn, might as well keep going.

“I’m just trying to understand who you are and what the hell happened between us. Because I know for certain it wasn’t like anything I’d experienced before.”

He took a couple steps around the table to get closer to her, but she countered his action, keeping the space between them.

“Do you think about me at all?” He looked at her blank expression and shook his head in frustration before continuing. “Because I can’t stop thinking of you. It’s been over two months, and I can’t get you out of my system. And believe me, I’ve tried.”

She looked at him, one eyebrow raised, distaste evident in her tone. “Girls at Baton Timide helping out with that?”

He scoffed loudly before answering. “Try tequila. Lots and lots of it.”

He locked his eyes angrily on hers and slowly made his way around the table toward her.

“You think another woman is the answer to my problem? You think if I go to the club and buy myself someone new, and tie them up, and fuck them that I’ll forget the way you felt?”

He prowled closer.

“That I’ll forget how you smell, how you taste?”

Drew had reached her now and grasped her lightly by the shoulders as he bent down to whisper in her ear. “That I’ll forget how you screamed my name as I drove myself into you?”

Her breathing quickened as he bent closer and ran his nose from her ear into the soft tresses of her hair, inhaling her scent. He was about to pull away when she turned her head and brushed her lips lightly across his. Before he could stop himself, he put one hand on her cheek and crushed his lips against hers, sliding his tongue across her lips, forcing her to open up to him. She hesitated for only a second before her mouth parted on a moan, her tongue meeting his, her hands reaching around to clench the back of his sweatshirt.

Hannah has missed Drew but had to get back to her real life. She’s just getting back into the swing of life when she runs into Drew.

This book took a lot of twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. But I’m so glad I read this series.

She took another bite of her toast. “But work is for sure not on your mind, Rory. Not with that goofy deer-in-the-headlight look on your face. You’re thinking about a guy.”

My mouth dropped. How in the hell did she know that? “I am not.”

Lifting her brow, she tilted her head and replied, “Really? Look me directly in the eye and tell me you were not thinking about a guy and I’ll treat you to a mani-pedi today.”

“Oh, that sounds like fun! I haven’t done that in a long time.”

“Stop avoiding the question, Rory.”

Taking a bite of my parfait, I asked, “What was the question again?”

With a huge smile, Clare pointed her egg-filled fork at me. “I knew it! I knew it. . . . What’s his name?”

I thought about lying and saying it wasn’t a guy who had my mind so damn preoccupied, or blurting everything out and asking Clare for advice. I was positive it would somehow involve his dick.

“It’s Finn.”

Her mouth formed an O as her eyes widened. “Finn? That sounds sexy as fuck.”

Worrying my lower lip into my mouth, I clamped down on it and nodded. I closed my eyes and sighed. Opening them, I focused on Clare. “Oh, gosh, Clare. He is more than sexy. If you were to look up ‘hotashell guy with the most amazing fit body’ in Webster’s, his picture would be there. He’s funny, has the most adorable smile, and when he’s really happy, his dimples pop out. He has crazy hair that looks like he runs his hand through it all . . . the . . . time. His condo is immaculate. Like you thought I was crazy weird about keeping stuff clean, this guy takes it up a level.” I stopped talking and thought about Finn’s eyes. “Those amazing emerald eyes of his are so easy to get lost in. They way he looks at me sometimes is so seductive I feel like I’m going to combust. And his kiss . . . Good Lord, his kiss left me reeling for hours.”

Clare sat there with her toast frozen at her mouth and stared at me. She dropped it to the plate and let a huge grin take over her face.

“Wow. Please tell me you slept with this guy and that he was the best sex you’ve ever had, ’cause the look on your face right now is almost borderline . . .”

She gasped.

Leaning in closer, I asked, “Borderline what?”

“First tell me, did y’all sleep together?”

I shook my head and took a bite of yogurt. “No. He asked me out to dinner, but I turned him down.”

Gripping the table, Clare shook her head. “Whoa . . . time out. Wait one damn minute. You haven’t even been out on a date with this guy? When did you kiss? You were at his condo? Why? How can you be that head over heels for someone and not have gone on a date?” Pinching the bridge of her nose, she moaned, “I’m so confused.”

She turned and searched for the waiter. “We need two Bloody Marys stat!”

TBRreview.png

Ok first off, this is totally my favorite type of book! The family, the firefighters, everything. I love series’ where each book is a sibling’s story. It always reminds me of my first love, Nora Roberts’ series (The MacGregors!!!!).

Finn is a playboy firefighter who loves to fight fire. He loves his career and his only complaint is wishing his mom would stop wanting him to settle down. He has a new Chief who he knows doesn’t like him. So he tries to stay below his radar. At least until he sees lady lawyer who attracts him.

Rory is still trying to prove herself in her mother’s law firm. She’s earned her degree just like they all did. She’s working for the firefighter’s union for a harassment lawsuit. She sees a firefighter in the crowd who she feels the zing for but her dad (the Chief) would go bonkers if she got involved with a fireman.

Going back to work was supposed to be a painless transition, but when my new boss turns out to be an arrogant, cocky jerk, he quickly turns my professional life into a world of torture. Okay, fine, calling him an asshat before knowing he was my boss wasn’t my finest moment. Hating him should be easy. I just never counted on him being so gorgeous or charming when he’s not annoying me.

Austin
I expected my new assistant to be professional and punctual, but all I’m getting are dirty looks and rude comments. I should fire the little hellion, but instead all I can think about is bending her over my desk and breaking every rule I’ve ever made for myself.

One look. One touch. One night. If we break the rules, our lives will never be the same again.

Good thing rules were made to be broken. And besides, it feels so good to Tempt the Boss.

Lauren
I’m singing along to Maroon Five’s “Don’t Wanna Know” when a call comes in. Penelope’s name flashes on the screen. Penelope is my friend from college, the only friend who I kept in touch with. She runs an HR firm that specializes in placing temps. She is the reason I have this job right now.
“Hello,” I say while I wait for her voice to fill the car.

“Hey, there, just checking in. You ready?” she asks me. I hear her rustling papers in the background, so I know she is already at her desk.

“Yup, I’m on my way there now. I’m so nervous, I may puke, though. But I’ll be on time.” I chuckle at the thought of me barfing all over my new boss. I brake for the traffic that is slowing to a crawl in front of me when I feel my van jerk forward slightly. My head flies forward and then snaps back. Looking in my mirror, I see that someone just hit me.

“Oh my god. Someone just ran into me. Fuck me, P. I have to call you back,” I say, unlocking my seatbelt and climbing out of the car.

I put my Tory Birch sunglasses on top of my head, walking to the back to see the damage. I don’t even have time to get there before I hear a raspy voice ask, “What the hell is wrong with you? You just stopped!” I put a hand over my eyes to block the sun and see him. And boy, do I see him. My heart skips a beat when he whips his aviator sunglasses off his face.

He’s about six feet tall, maybe taller, with dark hair that’s short on the sides and a bit longer at the top, which almost looks like it was combed back by his hands. His eyes are a mossy green with shimmery gold flecks in them that I can see thanks to the sun hitting them just right. A freshly-shaven face that shows off the strong angles of his jaw and hints at where I’m sure a five-o’clock-shadow of delicious stubble will emerge in a few hours.

He’s wearing a suit minus the jacket. His dark blue pants are a perfect fit, molding to him like they were made especially for him, and from the looks of them, they probably were. His crisp, white dress shirt is open at the collar and covers his broad chest and thick biceps. His sleeves are rolled up to his elbows and show off a big, masculine silver Rolex watch.

He throws his hand up as he angrily asks, “Is something wrong with you? Are you drunk?”

I take a step back, putting my hand to my stomach. “Are you talking to me?” I look around wondering if there is someone else he could be talking to. “You hit me. You. Hit. Me.” I storm to the back of the car to assess the damage. I see that my bumper is a bit scratched, but his Porsche is going to need some body work.

“I can’t believe this. I can’t flipping believe this! Now I’m going to be late because you were probably too busy on your phone texting to pay attention to the road.” I walk to my car, opening the door and leaning across the seat to grab my purse. Cars pass us slowly, everyone taking a look to see what’s going on.

Looking at the clock on the dash, I see that I have to be at my new job in twenty minutes. Grabbing my license, registration, and insurance ID card, I slam the door and walk over to see him leaning on the side of my car, watching me.

“I’m going to be late. Is there any way we can just exchange numbers and get all the information after?” I ask, looking through the papers.

I hear him huff. “You probably don’t have insurance, which is why you want to call me later so you can get some while I drive around with a missing a light.” He walks over to his car, leans down, and grabs his phone from the driver’s seat.

I look at him. “So, you weren’t on the phone? Riiighhhhttt,” I say glaring at him.

“I don’t have all day. Some of us have actual work to do. What do you want from me?” His tone is snarky.

“Actually, I don’t want anything from you. My car has a scratch, yours is the one that is damaged. Besides, it wasn’t even my fault. Maybe we should call the police to make a report so we can get it on the record that you were driving while texting.” I lean my head to the side. “I’m not a police officer or anything, but I think that’s against the law.”

He snarls at me, “Just give me your number.” I tell him my number, and when he asks my name, I gladly tell him. “The woman whose car you hit because you were texting while driving.” He looks at me and his eyebrows pinch together. “Is that name already taken?” I ask him, waiting for his answer. When I realize he isn’t going to reply, I ask him, “Now, what’s yours?” He shoots off his number, and I store it in my phone.

I turn around to walk away. “Aren’t you going to ask me my name?” He puts his hands on his hips, his biceps bulging and his chest looking impossibly broader.

“Nope, no need. I just put you under ‘Asshat who texts while driving and hit my car.’” I smile at him. “Have a fabulous day,” I grumble, turning around and getting back in the car.

Fuck. I see that I now have ten minutes to get there. I dial Penelope right after I buckle and take off watching the asshole get into his car. “I think I might still make it,” I tell her even before she says hello.

“It’s okay. I called and told them there was an accident on the way, and they said not to worry, that Austin was going to be late, too. So, you’re still good to go.  How’s the damage?” she asks.

“Minivan: 1 – Porsche: 0.” I laugh and tell her I’ll check back in with her at lunch.

When I finally make it to the office building, I check my face and apply lip gloss one more time before walking inside. I look at my phone and notice that I’m only seven minutes late. Not bad all things considered. I walk in and tell the security guard I am there for Barbara at Mackenzie Jacob Associates. When he calls up, he gets the all clear to send me up.

I make my way up to the forty-sixth floor and walk to the receptionist, who is smiling from ear-to-ear. “Hi. I’m here to see Barbara. My name is Lauren. I’m the temp,” I explain as she gets up and comes around to shake my hand, introducing herself as Carmen. She then takes me back to meet Barbara.

Barbara is short with white hair, and her glasses are perched on her nose. “Hey, there, Lauren. I’m so happy to finally meet you. I’ve heard great things from Penelope.” She reaches out to shake my hand and motions for me to sit down.

“Thank you so much, and I’m so sorry I’m late. I was in a little fender bender, and I tried to finish as fast as I could,” I tell her, sitting down in the chair in front of her desk.
“No worries. I heard Austin was going to be about ten minutes late, but he got here right before you did. Now, if you will fill out these papers here, I will get your elevator pass ready for you,” she says while she goes to her cabinet in the corner.

Because this is just a temp job, I don’t have to do much. Just an emergency contact form. “Now, I should warn you that this is the tenth temp we have hired for this position… this month,” she finishes quickly.

I look at her, confused. “But it’s only the seventeenth of November.” My heart starts racing. What if he throws me out? What if he laughs at me since I haven’t worked in ten years?

“Mr. Mackenzie is, um, well… special to work for,” she murmures while looking down at the papers in front of her and not even trying not make eye contact with me.

“Special? What does that mean?” I ask, my eyebrows pinching together.

“Let’s just say that my money is on you.” She gets up. “Shall we?” She points to the door. I nod at her, trying to get some saliva going in my mouth. It’s dry, and my palms are sweating. I think my armpits are actually starting to sweat, too. Oh boy. I can’t do this. I should turn around and run away.

But before I can make my move, we reach a door that is closed. The big brown door is solid, and the windows that look out into the office have their shades drawn. I hear Barbara knock on the door before we enter.

I don’t see much in front of her. I just look around the office at the view of the city, since there are wall-to-wall windows affording it an amazing view. I don’t have a chance to look much further, because all I hear is a raspy voice asking, “Are you fucking stalking me? Did you follow me here?” I whip my head around to look at him.

Just my luck. It’s the asshat from this morning, the one who hit me. Except now, the asshat is sitting behind the desk, the desk that apparently belongs to my new temporary boss.

Austin

I’m already having the shittiest day ever and it’s only fucking eight o’clock. My alarm didn’t wake me at five a.m. like it does every day, so I didn’t have a chance to get my run in before I had to head to work.

Just a quick shower and a coffee before I hurried out. I walked out of my apartment, rushed to the elevator, and ran smack into my ex who, according to her, ‘just happened to be in the area.’

It took a lot for me not to roll my eyes at her. She wasn’t in the area; she’s fucking the dude who lives upstairs. Not that I care. I was the one who let her go. Whatever, I blew her off and headed to my car.

Right as I started up my car, my mother decided it was a great day to call and lay out everything that’s wrong with my life. I’m nearing forty; all I have is my career, blah blah blah. Newsflash, Mom, that’s all I want.

So, just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I hit a mini bus, or a van, or whatever the hell it’s called.

I expected a frumpy housewife to get out of the car, but instead I was greeted by a woman who could only be described as sex-on-a-stick, or I guess I should say two sticks, because those legs of hers aren’t something I’ll forget anytime soon. I couldn’t even talk I was so stunned. Then she bent over her seat and presented me with the most perfect ass. I think I actually groaned.

My cock was getting ready to salute her right then and there as she walked back to me from her minivan. The thought that she was someone’s wife and I was jonesing on her made my skin crawl. I may be an asshole, but I don’t fuck with marriages or people in relationships. There are more than enough single people on earth to not get involved with someone who isn’t.

I tried to see if she was wearing a ring, but I couldn’t see anything. I took her number, and she rushed away.

The whole way to work, I replayed the scene in my head over and over again. I tried to think back on anything that I could have said that would have had her reacting so hostilely.

I got to the office just four minutes late. I absolutely loathe tardiness; people who are late drive me nuts. I built this company from the ground up. I am now the most sought-after commercial contract developer in the city, especially when it comes to entertainment establishments. If you want to open a restaurant or nightclub in this city, let’s just say I am known widely as the best choice to make sure it happens.

There is never a dull moment in this business. If I have to get in there and swing a hammer or wash the damn glasses myself, I do it. There is nothing I won’t do to protect my and my company’s reputation. If you are opening a restaurant or a nightclub and you attach it to the name Mackenzie Jacob, chances are it’ll be a hit from day one.

So now, here I am walking into my office a few minutes late. The cute new receptionist, Carmen, is batting her eyes at me as I walk in, dragging out her greeting. “Good Morning, Mr. Mackenzie.” She’s new here, so she mustn’t have heard the news yet, but I don’t fuck where I eat. Ever.

“Morning. Is my new temp here yet?” I ask her, getting right to the point as she hands me my messages. A new temp who is yet another thing I didn’t need today.

Since my secretary retired last month, I’ve gone through six or seven temps…okay, maybe ten. But it’s not all my fault. I can’t take it if they’re stupid and I have to sit there and spell things out for them. I need someone who can take direction, get it right the first time, and just do what I ask the first time I ask it. It’s simple, really.

When I ask you to get me coffee, I’m not asking you to join me for a cup. When I tell you to scan and email something, I don’t need reporting of the task as if you’re waiting for a sticker on your paper. When you have a caller on hold, I don’t need you announcing them to me through the intercom in a singsong voice. I also don’t need you knocking on my door every few minutes to ask me if I need anything. Trust me, when I need something, you’ll be the first one to know.

“Can you tell Barbara I’m in now?” I prompt her, walking away while I pull the collar from my neck, making my way down the hall toward my corner office.

I walk into my office, taking in the view of the city. We are on the forty-sixth floor, so I can see the skyline perfectly, and at night, it’s even better. I eat, sleep, and breathe my work. There aren’t set hours for my work. So, if I have to be at the office for fifteen hours a day, then that’s what it takes. Which is why I don’t need, or want, a wife at this point. I’d just let them down.

I’ve lost count of how many relationships I’ve had that have ended because I wasn’t there when I said I would be. I’m married to my work, and she is my first priority.

Sitting in my chair, I start going through the messages. I flip through them, seeing two messages from Vegas. I’m thinking of branching out and opening an office there, but something is stopping me. I like to stay local. I like to show up during construction. I like to pop in when you least expect it, and I wouldn’t be able to do that if I branched out to Vegas.

I’m about to call them back when there is a knock on the door. I don’t even have to tell them to come in before Barbara opens the door. I look over at her. She’s been here from day one, but she isn’t what I’m looking at this morning; it’s the girl behind her.

Fucking unbelievable! This crazy chick followed me to my work. She is probably coming to sue me. I’ll show her. “Are you fucking stalking me? Did you follow me here?” I growl at her while I stand up behind my desk.

Barbara’s face pales and her mouth hangs open, but not the sassy one behind her. “Follow you? Are you insane?” She looks at Barbara. “I can’t do this. I totally understand why you’ve gone through so many temps. Who would work for him?” She shakes her head. “Not only did he hit my car”—she looks at me—“while texting. The first thing he asked was if I was drunk!” She looks back at Barbara, who then glares at me. Great, just great, she’s on crazy chick’s side. “You would think he would ask me if I’m okay, right? Nope, not this guy. He wanted to know if I was drunk at eight a.m. Who the hell drinks at eight am anyway?” She folds her arms under her breasts, unnecessarily pushing them up. Fuck. I can’t stop the mental image of her standing there, arms crossed under her tits, in nothing but her shoes. I shake that thought from my head.

“Wait.” I throw the messages on my desk. “You, you’re my temp?”

“No, sir,” she says, and fuck me, but does that ever make me want to hold her hands behind her back as I bend her over my desk and pound into her while she calls me sir. “I was your temp.” She looks at Barbara. “I wish you well.” Then she turns and starts walking out the door.

Barbara’s raised voice stops her. “Wait a second!” She looks at me.  “Austin Montgomery Mackenzie, is Lauren telling me that you hit her car and then asked her if she was drunk? I raised you better than that, young man,” she chides in that sharp tone I remember from my childhood. Okay, so Barbara was also my nanny growing up. That was to be expected when you’re the child of world-renowned doctors who jetted around the globe saving lives. One is a cardiologist, and the other is a brain surgeon. They had very little time to raise a child. So, that’s where Barbara came in, and she stayed until I was eighteen. She retired, but when I opened this firm, she was the first one I thought of to handle the HR side of the company, something I knew she would handle far better than me. “Apologize right this second, Austin,” she demands, and I scoff at her. I will not do any such thing.

“She braked suddenly for no reason! There was no one in front of her,” I defend myself. Barbara’s eyebrows pinch together, and she takes her glasses off so they hang on the chain around her neck. I know that if I don’t say sorry, this will just end in her quitting again. Last time, it cost me a month-long Mediterranean cruise. “Fine,” I huff out, “I’m sorry I accused you of being drunk. I should have just called you what you are—a reckless, clueless female driver.”

Lauren stands there glaring at me as Barbara yells, “I quit!” This must shock Lauren, because she immediately goes to Barbara and strokes her back. “Oh no. No, no, no. Please, really, it’s fine. It’s totally okay. I accept his apology.” She aims a glare at me. “I understand now why so many women left, he’s a…” She leans in and whispers in Barbara’s ear. I don’t know what she says, but they both snicker. Great, just great.

“Yup, my money is on Lauren.” She looks at me. “You’re lucky she saved you this time.” She smiles at Lauren. “Let’s do lunch tomorrow. Austin’s treat.”

She leaves the room leaving us all alone. “Fine. I guess I’ll try and work with you, for Barbara.” She walks out to the desk facing my office. She puts her purse on it. Turning the computer on, she grabs a pen and notepad and comes back in. “No time like the present to get this out of the way, so why don’t we start with your expectations of me?”

I look at her while she sits in the chair in front of me, crossing her legs at her ankles. I sit down, leaning back in my chair, and start rocking. “Okay, fine. I expect you to be on time. Every day. No exceptions.”

She doesn’t write it down. “That isn’t a problem. I hate when people are late, so you don’t have to worry about that. Unless, of course, irresponsible people hit my car while I’m innocently driving, I’ll be here on time.”

“There is a list on your desk of routine tasks required of this position that you can read. If it’s not clear enough, then come ask me questions. How’s that?”

She gets up. “That sounds like a plan.” She turns to walk away, and I watch her. Every fucking step she takes she swings her hips; the best thing is, she has no idea she’s doing it. She has no idea that I’m sitting here negotiating with myself about my own rule. I’m not sure how I’m going to get anything done, because fucking her on my desk is the only thing I can think of that needs to be done right now.

TBRreview
This book was hysterical! Which I totally needed the laugh catching my coworker’s cold and having to work on a very boring paper. Anywho, Lauren is heading back to work after being off for years being a SAHM and housewife. Well that changed with the divorce from her cheating husband. And to start off her day, she gets hit by a distracted, annoying man who acts as if it’s her fault. While cursing him, she tries to handle the accident. And this is just her first day.

Austin needs a capable assistant. Someone who can deal with him and keep his schedule straight. While he’s trying to handle business while driving (insert don’t text & drive PSA here), he hits a gorgeous but frustrating woman. And what do you know, she’s his new assistant. Too bad he has the rule about not getting involved with coworkers….

Like I said, this book was hysterical. I can’t imagine doing even half of the pranks Lauren and Austin pulled on each other. I might think them but never would actually do them. So this sort of assuaged the curiosity of what would happen should one pull pranks.

5 Stars!

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

Excerpt:

I’m walking through the senior parking lot when I spot Jordan standing near his black Range Rover, leaning against its side. He’s wearing a white Henley shirt, his arms crossed and his biceps bulging beneath the long sleeves. The breeze ruffles his dark hair across his forehead and he stares off into the distance, every inch the troubled, broody boy that he is.

He looks so freaking good, I’m momentarily distracted by him. I stop and stare, my lips parted, my breath becoming shallow. It’s still hard for me to believe that this guy, this gorgeous, sweet, annoying, smart, strong, wonderful, awful boy likes me. That he might even care about me.

“Hey.” His deep baritone knocks me from my daze, and I head over, stopping just in front of him. “Where’s Livvy?”

“She made last minute plans. With someone else.” I don’t say anything else. Livvy’s secret isn’t mine to tell, and I’m afraid if I start talking about it, I’ll get really pissed. So I leave it alone. “Guess I don’t need to drive your car after all, but thank you for offering. I sense it was huge deal.”

“It is,” he agrees, tipping his head toward me. “But you’re worth it.”

Oh. He says things like that and I’m left speechless.

“You don’t have any plans?”

“No.” I shake my head, feeling tongue-tied.

Jordan grabs my hand, lacing our fingers and giving them a squeeze. “Then let’s go to lunch together.”

“Don’t you want to stay here?” He usually does. He’s always out at the quad, holding court over his loyal subjects. I used to sit out there with him, with all of them, just basking in his presence. But once we had the so-called breakup of our so-called relationship, I stopped going. One, because I couldn’t stand to be near him knowing he wasn’t mine anymore. Besides, most everyone who would hang out with Tuttle is annoying. Frustrating. Awful.

All of the above.

“No, not if I can sneak off campus somewhere with you.” He tugs me closer, his expression serious, his voice low. “Let me treat you to lunch, Amanda.”

When he talks to me like that, looks at me like that, I tend to give in easily.

“Okay,” I say softly, a jolt pulsing through me when he runs his thumb over the top of my hand. Sometimes the simplest touch has the most devastating effect.

Tuttle and Amanda are a match made in heaven! I already have a thing about guys named Jordan so that might have added to his swoony-ness.

Tuttle is the rich, cocky, confident high school guy. You know the type. He’s always had a crush on Amanda since they were kids. And once he finally cracks the ice, he knows that he’s going to do everything to keep her. Except Tuttle has his own secrets and demons and that might be what causes him to lose Amanda.

Amanda is a tough, strong, ice queen who doesn’t let anyone crack her exterior. Until Jordan does. But then Jordan can’t keep his past from haunting him and causing him to ruin one of the best things that’s ever happened to him by the best girl for him.

I ADORED every single second of this book.” ~Between The Bookends

“In true Ella Fox style I Don’t is fan-freaking-tasting! It is intriguing, sexy and has a wonderful story.” ~Reader Review

“I Don’t is a steamy, suspenseful read. ~Three Chicks

“It’s Mr. Gretchen isn’t it?”
“Um, no,” Ben answered, “This is most definitely not Mr. Gretchen.”
“Okayyy,” I drawled. “You’re acting weird, so I have to assume it’s someone unusual. Is it the President? George Clooney? Oh, wait. I know. It’s Channing Tatum. If I’ve told him once, I’ve told him a dozen times not to call me at work—”
“Not even close. This man—he says he’s your fiancé.”
My heart stopped beating for several seconds. When it started up again, I assured myself I was asleep. Yep, that had to be it. I was having a nightmare. With my free hand, I pinched my thigh, wincing at the twinge of pain. Dammit, I was awake.

No, no, no, I chanted inwardly as I started to panic. I was nowhere near ready to deal with him. Surely he wouldn’t have tracked me down at work. With me gone, he should be living the bachelor life to the fullest, so busy dealing with his social calendar that thinking of me was impossible. I prayed that there was some kind of mistake or that whoever was on the phone wasn’t him. Maybe it was someone calling for another Ava. That could happen, right?
“His voice,” I whispered. “Does he sound—”
“Spanish?” Ben supplied. “Yeah.”
I’d been about to ask if he sounded like a stubborn son-of-a-bitch, but Spanish told me what I needed to know.

I LOVE Ella Fox’s novels!! From the Renegade Saints series and now this new series. Plus a guilty pleasure of mine is the runaway bride/fiancée and the big alpha coming back to claim her.
Ava has run from her fiancée after something he’s done. She’s happily living in New Jersey, going about her business. Mateo decides it’s been long enough. He’s lived without her for too long and that stops today!
A lot of twists and turns and misconceptions righted make this a great story to read! I can’t wait for Alejandro’s story!
5 stars!

TastyToursReview.png
This was an interesting story. Sofia’s father is very traditionally Ukrainian in that even though Sofia is American, he wants her settled down. So he hires a matchmaker for her. Cameron is in a similar situation except his grandfather wants them all settled down before they can inherit the company. So Cameron hires a matchmaker to find him a mail-order bride… I’m sure you can see where this is going.
I love Cameron and Sofia’s interactions. They have such a chemistry! It’s just so refreshing! I can’t wait for the other McNeill brothers’ stories!!

Who knew my brother’s friend could be Mr.
Right, and not just Mr. Right Now?

My brother refused to introduce me, so I blame him. If he’d just
caved, and introduced me to Jasper, I wouldn’t be in this mess. I mean, really,
what’s the big deal? I’m not interested in the guy’s looks.
Oh no, I want his cold hard cash. (Be honest, you were expecting
that other four letter ‘c’ word weren’t you?)
Now, before you go getting all judgy, I’m not a gold digger. I
have a legitimate business opportunity for Jasper to invest in. The problem is
that my stick-up-his-ass brother is embarrassed that his twin sister invents
kick ass sex toys. His problem, not mine.
So, I took matters into my own hands. Defeat isn’t a word in
Lennon Hart’s dictionary.
Using my stealthy P.I. moves, I narrowed my search to a time and
place where I knew I could find him. It was completely innocent. A chance
meeting that would give me the opportunity to pitch my business.
It wasn’t until I sat down across from the gorgeous panty soaking
man in front of me, that I realized I wanted so much more than just his money.
I could very well want his heart if I wasn’t careful.
Apparently my P.I. skills aren’t as stellar as I thought because
Jasper had his own secret—and it changed EVERYTHING.

TBRreview
While the other womens’ stories were hot and spicy, I think I identified most with Lennon. She has never really fit in with her family so she goes out of her way to be as different as possible. But then she also gets hurt when they don’t see past her actions.
Anywho, Lennon is finally working on a way to start her “adult entertainment” business as her family calls it. And she needs an investor. While she can’t ask her banker brother, she can ask her brother’s mentor aka venture capitalist Jasper Banks. Except her brother won’t hook her up. Fine, she’ll do it herself. When she runs into the guy she flirted with at Starbucks at this dating event and then finds out he’s Jasper Banks, things just got a whole lot more twisted.
Full of hilarity and laughs as you expect from Piper and Rayne by now. I can’t wait for their next series!!!

Author Bio

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?

We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We’re both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We’re both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.
