“You sure you wanna do this?” He bumped her arm with his. She had slipped his coat back over her shoulders, and now she held the coat tightly around her middle. “I want to do this.” “Do we have a story?” he asked as they hurried up the two steps and the sidewalk to the front door. Through the windows, Grant saw rooms crowded with people of all ages and sizes. The current song was something by Elvis. A Christmas tree lit up the corner of the front room. Several people held Solo cups. “Think there’s a keg?” she asked quietly. “Maybe.” He leaned close to the window to see better. “Doesn’t look like an all-college crowd, though.” “College kids don’t have the corner on kegs.” She shrugged. “Do we have a story?” he asked again. “Let’s wing it.” She tugged at his arm and pulled him to the door. Seconds after Grant rang the bell, the door swung open. Zoey peeked up at him as a young kid leaned around the door with a sloppy grin. He didn’t particularly look of age, but he did look smashed. “Hey! C’min.” The kid backed up and threw a hand out in welcome. “Zip’s in the kitchen, man. Grab a drink.” “Great.” Grant ushered Zoey inside and then closed the door. Small groups of people everywhere yelled to be heard over the deafening music. Grant reached for Zoey’s hand, pleased when she linked her fingers in his and followed him. The kitchen was obviously in the back of the house, so Grant led her that way. The wooden door swung closed behind them. More people gathered around the island counter, but the music was a bit quieter in here. “Hey.” A tall bald guy nodded at them. Since he was surrounded by people—four girls and two guys—Grant decided he might be Zip. “How ya doin’, Zip?” he asked with a knowing smile. “Where’ve you been, man? Haven’t seen you in ages.” Zip stepped forward and offered Grant his hand. “No kidding.” Grant shook his hand. “Been around. Same old same old.” “Ain’t that the truth.” Zip nodded enthusiastically. “Grab a drink. Catch up. I think Doug’s out back. Bet you haven’t seen him in years.” “I haven’t!” Grant suppressed a laugh when Zoey squeezed his hand. “Remember Zoey?” He pulled her in close to him. “Hey, yes!” Zip left the group he had been talking to and approached them with open arms. He swallowed Zoey up in a big hug and then gave Grant a bro hug, complete with a slap on the back. “Fancy digs, guys.” He stepped back to eye Grant’s vest and Zoey’s dress. “Well.” Grant aimed a sheepish grin at Zoey. “We eloped tonight.” “Say what?” Zoey looked at him with wild eyes, as if she seconded what Zip had said.

After I lost my dad, my roommate, with his tighty-whitey, pizza eating, gaming habits, wasn’t worth staying in Seattle for. So when I’m offered a job at an upscale mansion in the middle of Bum-Fuck-Ohio, I take it. I mean, what do I have to lose?
The answer?
Everything.
Not only do I discover that my exceptionally good-looking, albeit moody, landlord is a werewolf, (A-Freaking-Werewolf!) but get this… and it’s the real kicker, we’re fated mates! The lust I feel for him is off the charts, which is odd since I’m human and humans being fated to werewolves is basically unheard of. There’s also the fact that I keep passing out and having these crazy dreams that scare Ryker half to death.
Then, I find out that it’s no coincidence that my boss hired me. It seems everyone knows more about me and the fact that I might not actually be human after all, than I do.
As I learn more about what I am, I’m left with more questions than answers. I do know that if left untrained, I’m dangerous for both Ryker and his pack. I have to fix that and fast!

Somehow, with a speed and strength, I’d never possessed, I flipped him over and rode him. I could tell he was caught off guard by the way his body locked.

I paid no mind to it. It was about him and me, connected. I needed it, and I needed more.
I rode him.
I bit him.
I scratched my nails down his back.
I was wild, nearly feral.
He came again and again, and I didn’t let up.
“Ariel,” he called. It sounded far off. I needed to fuck him. “Ariel,” he grabbed my legs, trying to slow my movements. I batted his hand away. I had to have him.
More. I needed more.
I rocked back and forth fervently. I had no other thought than my need to make him orgasm again.
“Ariel,” he yelled again, and the strangest thing happened. He began to change. I lost him inside of me, and I fought to get him back, but he was strong and fast, then he was a wolf pinning me down and snarling at me.
I blinked in surprise, seeming to come to, unsure of what just happened.
I scrambled back on the bed, and even in his wolf form, I could see the scratches and smears of red along his coat.
“Oh, God. What have I done?”

Hey! My name is Sarah Brianne and after living for twenty-two years the characters in my head told me enough was enough and I have finally put pen to paper (or is it finger to keyboard?) to tell their stories. Since I was a little girl I have watched every chick flick I could get my hands on, then when I became older I discovered a whole new world of romance novels. To me there is nothing better then a tale of true love and those are the stories that have inspired me to write. Like everything else in my life I have put my own spin on two lovers destined to be together.

Jamie Begley – “I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.

Taking after my mother, I’ve always loved to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.

For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children, my daughter is also an author, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.

All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.”

The dry desert air was cooler now that night had fallen across the Great Basin. A shy moon peeked behind layers of filmy gray clouds. Stars twinkled overhead, and I caught the last of the plum-colored rays as they sank below the horizon.

This was Stefanie’s favorite time of the day, or it was when I arrived at her grave.

Twilight.

The same sort of sky where I watched her dance in the fading light and when I knew without a doubt that I loved her, would trade my life for hers, and nothing would stop me from making her mine. A night when the possibility of a future had seemed so promising and the slightest touch of her fingers brushing across my own blossomed hope in my heart. We had our first kiss under similar stars, and when her head rested on my shoulder, I’d never felt more complete.

We shared an ice cream cone that night, and I licked a creamy drop off the side of her sweet mouth. I pledged my soul to her in silence, handing over my heart because no other girl was ever going to mean as much to me as my pretty pageant girl.

Staring down at her grave, I blew out a breath, nodding my head once before I spun on my heel and headed back to my bike. The engine rumbled as I left the cemetery and rolled down the road with only one destination in mind.

My focus was singular. I paid no attention to the landmarks, the quiet roads, or the cool temperature of the breeze as it whispered across my skin, begging me to turn around and choose a different path.

It wasn’t possible.

When Stefanie was murdered, my choice was made.

The only thing left was the rage. It blocked out the pain. The sorrow. The guilt.

The flame from my lighter flickered in the careless wind as I started my smoke, inhaling the nicotine into my lungs as my lips lifted into the briefest of smiles.

Vindication. Vengeance. An eye for an eye.

None of those words was any comparison.

I wasn’t justice or revenge tonight.

I was death. And there would be no mercy.

If my club knew my plans and the ruthless brutality that I would carry them out, no one would have let me outside the gates of the compound. Wars were started by the kind of vigilante shit I was doing tonight, but I didn’t give a fuck. Let every asshole who thought he could take me on give it a try. I wasn’t just a crippled boy with everything to lose. Now I was an arrogant, vengeful motherfucker who didn’t have a damn thing holding him back.

That was difficult for some people to comprehend.

It took a particular type of personality to truly embrace a give zero shits and hold nothing back kind of attitude. For me, it was fueled by Stefanie’s loss, but if I was honest, that wasn’t the root cause. I’d been born different. I wasn’t normal, and I knew it from a young age.

When I saw the shadows, heard the whispers, and then learned of the roars, I knew my purpose was tainted. What kind of psychotic kid spoke to the darkness and loved it? Who chose to friend the nightmares from the closet and under the bed? Only a kid born from the shadows. That was exactly who I had become.

It only took a tragedy to unfurl the beast inside completely.

The shadows were my home now, a refuge to plan my ultimate revenge, and that was exactly what I had done over the last four months. I’d plotted and researched and planned. Aching from the pain and torment of losing the girl I loved, I let that fester into something wild and deadly. Now that my contact and I had met several times and exchanged critical Intel, I was ready to strike.

Oh, they would never see me coming. They had no idea.

From shadow, I was born, and from shadow, I would rise. But oh, how glorious, how beautiful, how saturated in blood would that road to hell be paved upon.

Maniacal laughter bubbled up and out of my chest.

Perhaps I truly lost my mind.

I didn’t care.

The first visit from the ghost of Christmas was coming tonight, and how perfectly twisted and merciless it would become.

He’d been cheating on her with his secretary, I knew I should have said something, but didn’t because I didn’t want to be the one to break her heart. After all, I’d crushed on her since he’d introduced us, so instead, I decided to step in and clean up his mess.

One night she came to me, telling me how the honeymoon she’d booked was non-refundable and how she wished she had someone to travel with. Since I believed no one should be alone for Christmas I agreed to go with her.
We had 10 days in Paris and when we arrived it felt as if we’d been transported into another world. She was finally laughing and smiling until we arrived at the hotel to find everything had been prepared for the newlyweds, which we weren’t. One look at her and I knew the tears were going to come rushing back if I didn’t step up and take control of the situation.
Afterward, I pulled her in for an innocent hug. The problem was she fit perfectly as if she’d been made for me. It was then that I realized this trip wasn’t going to be easy and that the next 10 days were going to be filled with cold showers, especially if she didn’t feel the connection too.

Laura and I sat in the living room working on calling all the guests. Derrick carried the last few boxes of his stuff down the stairs, followed by Maddox, who’d agreed to help him move. Derrick marched out the door without another word, we had done nothing but argue since he had arrived. Maddox placed the box he’d been carrying on the floor and then poked his head into the living room.

“I think that is it, Tess. Just call me if he forgot anything and I’ll come by and pick it up.”
I looked up at him and nodded. “Okay, thanks, but please don’t let him come with you. I don’t want to see him again,” I said, standing up and going over to him.
“I won’t bring him back here. I promise. You can call me if you need anything.” He smiled, pulling me in for a hug.
Maddox and Derrick had been best friends growing up. The couple of years I had been with Derrick, Maddox had become a very good friend to me. He was someone I cherished, and I hoped that with the news of us breaking up meant that he, too, wouldn’t disappear from my life.
“Let’s go,” I heard Derrick call from outside.
“He beckons.” He gave me a half smile and rolled his eyes. “Guess I’ve got to go,” Maddox said, winking at me. He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek. “I’m on holidays for the next week, so if you’re feeling lonely, just call or text, okay.”
I nodded and watched as he walked out the front door, pulling it shut behind him.
I went in and flopped down on the couch just as Laura crossed off another name on the list and hung up her phone. “Another person off the list,” she said, smiling.
I pinched the bridge of my nose. “I guess I should now call and try to cancel that trip. Even if I won’t get my money back, perhaps they can offer me some sort of credit.”
Laura looked up from the list of names and shook her head. “No way. Don’t you dare.”
“Don’t cancel the trip?” I questioned, rubbing the tension from my neck.
“That’s right. I was speaking with your mom earlier. Her and I both agree that you should go on that trip, regardless. It will give you a chance to get over everything that has gone on, perhaps even give you a new outlook on things. Call it a self-discovery trip.”
I looked at her. She was being ridiculous. “Yeah, okay, let me get this straight. I’m to go on my honeymoon by myself to get over my fiancé dumping me eight weeks before our wedding? That doesn’t exactly shout fun,” I said, rolling my eyes. I picked up the confirmation email I had printed and searched it to find the number I needed to call and cancel.
I’d just found it when the front door opened, and I heard my mother call out a hello. I looked at Laura and gritted my teeth, not really in the mood to be ambushed by either of them. “Hey, Mom. We’re in here,” I called out.
Mom came around the corner, a huge smile on her face. “Okay, girls, tell me what I can do to help?” she asked, throwing her coat and purse over the arm of the couch.
“You can convince your daughter to go on that trip, while I continue to call and let guests know they cancelled the wedding,” Laura said, looking proud of herself.
Mom looked at me with disappointment written all over her face. Then she sat down and crossed her arms. I could tell from her body language that I was about to get a lecture. “Tess, you paid for that trip. You should at least go. I know how excited you were to go see Paris. Besides, it will do you good to get out of here for a while and away from all of this.”
I shrugged and looked at Laura. “You two don’t get it. I don’t want to go. This should have been my honeymoon. How much fun do you think I am going to have? First, I’ll be alone, and second, it’s only going to be a reminder of what would have been.”
Mom and Laura looked at one another, suddenly smiling as if they had an idea.
“What?” I asked, crossing my arms and rolling my eyes.
“So don’t go alone. Take one of your friends. What about Laura?” Mom asked.
“Oh, no, I can’t go. I’m heading out to Denver for Christmas. Going to visit my parents,” Laura said, putting the phone down on the table.
“Okay, so we need to find someone to go with you. Your father and I cannot go. We have plans already—Hawaii.” Mom brought her finger up to her lips and squinted her eyes as she tried to think of someone. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. “What about one of your single, platonic male friends?”
I put my head in my hands and shook it before running my fingers through my hair. “Mom, I don’t have single male friends.”
“There has to be someone, Tess.”
“Like who?” I frowned.
“Teddy, or perhaps the firefighter, oh what’s his name? You know the one with those stunning blue eyes?” Mom said, once again bringing her finger to her lips as she struggled to come up with his name.
“Maddox?” I questioned.
“Yes, that’s it, Maddox! He has always adored you. You should ask him,” Mom said, Laura nodding in agreement.
“You actually just missed him.” Laura smiled.
“Oh, that is too bad. I’ve always liked him, such a sweet man, and a good looking one too.”
I buried my face in my hands. I couldn’t believe that, as I stood here, my mother and Laura were plotting to fix me up with someone so I could go on this trip. I rolled my eyes. “Mom, Maddox isn’t even my friend. He is Derrick’s.”
“Now I know for a fact that isn’t true. Maddox adores spending time with you,” Laura interjected. “Did you see the way he hugged you earlier? And he is single.”
I gritted my teeth and looked toward Laura, willing her with my eyes to stop. “Don’t you have a list of people in front of you to call?” I interjected.
“Right, phone calls.” She giggled as she picked up the phone and began dialling.
Mom turned to me. “Oh, Tess, don’t be so stubborn. I agree. I think you need to go on that trip, but I don’t want my daughter travelling halfway across the country alone. Plus, everyone else has plans, and if Maddox is single…and willing to go…then I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t ask him.”
I picked up the other half of the guest list and shoved it at my mother without answering her. “I’ll go make us some coffee. I am sure it is going to be a late night,” I said, leaving the room and heading out to kitchen.
“Just ask him?” she yelled out as I left the room.
“Mother, please, I am not asking Maddox!” I shouted over my shoulder.
“I’m just saying…” She smiled and lifted her eyebrows in gest. “He’s a good-looking guy who would probably love to accompany you to Paris. Just ask him.”
I shook my head in disbelief that my own mother would even suggest such a thing. I could hear them giggle from the kitchen, and I shook my head as their suggestion ran through my mind. “Ridiculously crazy,” I muttered to myself as I made the coffee for everyone. There was no way I was asking anyone to go on that trip with me, if I were to go at all.
