Some days things just click. Today is not that day.
Love is a battlefield, and divorce attorney Sadie Howard is entrenched on the frontlines. She thought she might have met the right man once, but he was a career military guy who got shipped overseas and left her heart on the tarmac. These days, the only commitment Sadie wants is the one she’s made to her Denver law practice.
Combat photographer Roman Dvornakov is back. Fresh out of the U.S. Army, he’s using family connections to snap photos at a few weddings while he builds his civilian photography practice. After all he’s captured on film, a few posed wedding shots should be a cakewalk. Seeing so much death through the camera lens, he’s now ready to build something worth living for. A thriving photography business, definitely. But he’s certain his new mission also includes Sadie, the girl who slipped away.
Sadie isn’t convinced, and she’s not willing to open her heart anytime soon. Besides, she’s got a high-profile divorce case taking up all her attention. Winning the case for her client will make or break her practice. So what if it’s a custody dispute over a ridiculously expensive fish tank? When Roman discovers the soon-to-be divorced couple are still in love, he and his slightly-nutty grandmother, Babushka, are determined to convince them to cancel the proceedings. He’s not camera shy when it comes to matters of the heart, but interfering with Sadie’s clients could wreck her career and any chance they’ll ever have together…
WARNING: READ ONLY IF YOU LOVE A STRONG HEROINE, AN ALPHA HERO WITH A HEART OF GOLD, FAMILY MEDDLING, AND A GUARANTEED HEA. IF LAUGHING SO HARD THAT THOSE AROUND YOU ASK IF YOU ARE OKAY IS YOUR THING, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.

“My grandmother is on her way here.”
Sadie’s eyes got extra big and she snatched the other pillow off the bed to cover herself.
That was a shame.
“That’s not good,” she said.
No, it was not good.
His grandmother was elderly, but she was spry, and who knew how quickly she’d make it to the Holiday Inn.
It’d either be two hours, if she got distracted by the Macy’s display at Cherry Creek Mall, or ten minutes, if it was urgent and she didn’t stop to window-shop.
“You want me to go?” She had already begun putting her bra back on.
“No.” He shook his head. He did not want her to go.
“I should go,” she said softly. “I mean, it’s nice that you don’t mind if I stay. But your grandma doesn’t need to meet your latest Denver fling.”
The way she said it indicated she thought this was his standard operating procedure. Finding a pretty girl, entertaining himself, and then going back to work.
That was definitely not his standard operating procedure. He opened his mouth to tell her just that—
“If your grandmother is anything like mine, it’s probably best if I just head out. You don’t want to explain what we’ve been up to.” She made a yeesh face, then kissed his cheek. “We can catch up later.”
“I don’t care what my grandmother thinks,” he said, pressing his lips against the soft skin of her forehead.
“You’re sweet, Rome.” She looked up at him from under a filter of eyelashes. “Sweet and really asking for trouble if you introduce me to your family. I mean, I’m amazing. They’ll be all disappointed that we’re temporary. It’ll get weird when they start inviting me to family functions and stuff without you. We shouldn’t make it weird.”
He chuckled.
Yeah, he adored Sadie Howard.
“You can stay,” he said. And he meant it.
He didn’t care who knew about the girl who made this visit the best one he’d ever had.
“But I shouldn’t.” She kissed him on his mouth, lingering there. “I’ll catch a taxi. Come by my place when you’re done?”
“I don’t know how long it’ll be.” Hands against her cheeks, his fingers in her hair, he pulled her to him for a longer, lingering kiss.
“I’ll wait,” she said against his mouth when he broke the kiss.
And he’d do everything he could to make sure she didn’t have to wait long.

Elliott James is a control freak. After being told she was nothing special by her ex, Baker Williams, she’s spent the last eight years proving him wrong. She’s built a life she loves— prominent attorney, partner at her firm, a luxurious penthouse, and the best friends a girl could ask for. After a harrowing encounter last year, she’s determined to get her life back on track. She’s succeeding, until a case brings her face to face with the one man that’s ever made her want to lose control.
Baker Williams started with nothing but determination to make a better life for himself. He’s built an empire he’s proud of, by acquiring companies and working his way up. So when a rogue employee threatens to bring his kingdom tumbling down, he hires the best to defend his case. His only fault is not realizing that the best is Elliott James, and she’s ready to remind him of all the damage he did years ago.
Eight years ago, Elliott and Baker were matches and gasoline. Explosive and hot. Back then, they both walked away burned. When they’re forced to work together long after the flames have died down, they discover they’re just as combustible as ever. Now, they have to figure out how to save each other without their spark burning down everything they’ve worked so hard for in the process.

I fling the door open, hitting the lights as I go, and stop short.
In my office, standing in front of my desk, is the sexiest back I have ever seen. I mean, there’s a man attached to it, but I’m mostly preoccupied by the muscles rippling across his shoulders as he reaches for the shirt on the chair next to him and hurriedly puts it on.
“What the hell?” I set my briefcase and purse down with my coffee on the side table. “Can I help you?”
“I’m sorry, I spilled coffee on my shirt and the bathroom was locked,” he says, turning to face me. “The door was open and—”
He pauses when he sees me, and my mouth goes dry. My heart begins to race, and I grab the door frame to steady myself. Baker Williams is standing right in front of me, dress shirt still hanging open, hand frozen on his shirt cuff. For a second, everything is right in the world. I want to run to him, jump in his arms just like I used to. A thousand memories run through my mind before I’m brought out of my haze by his sharp intake of breath.
“Elliott.” He says my name like a curse.
“Baker.” And just like that, the hate is back. The rage I feel at seeing him makes me want to run to him now for an entirely different reason.
“What are you…”
He trails off and I stand firm. I will not feel uncomfortable in my own damn office, at the firm where I’m a partner. “This is my office,” I say blandly, begging my voice not to betray me.
“I see.” He’s recovered, not looking flustered in the least. He continues buttoning his shirt, taking his time.
I avert my gaze, refusing to allow myself to ogle him the way I want to.
Holy shit.
These eight years have done him well. He was an eighteen-year-old boy when I loved him. Standing before me is a grown man.
“Could you hurry up? I have a meeting to get to,” I say, void of emotion as I cross my arms over my chest. I will not let him think he’s getting to me.
“As do I.” He finishes buttoning his shirt and grabs his bags from the floor. His eyes come up to meet mine and realization hits.
“You’re my eight o’ clock?” The words come out as a squeak and I curse myself.
“Apparently so.” I swear there’s a gleam in his eye and I want to choke him. “This is going to be interesting.”

Gah. Magnolia and Moses! So yes, this was a duet instead of a trilogy but don’t let that fool you! There’s just as much of Meghan March angst, drama and sexy times as there are in the trilogy – if not more!
Every story Meghan makes a male character I swear I won’t like and then I do. I just love how alpha and deep down loving of his partner he is. And Moses is DEFINITELY loving of Magnolia. He is from the very beginning of this duet and he continues to be it thorough the duet. Moses is totally a male character I could picture myself with. He was SO easy to fall for as you read his perspective through the duet.
And Magnolia’s story! She is so very strong and independent and sassy and I just love her to death! She’s done what she’s had to do to stay alive and she makes no apologies! And Moses is so proud of her and how much she’s accomplished. Swoon!
5 stars!
