Even if Jamie’s no longer in the flesh.

He won’t leave until he saves her. Whatever the hell that means.

But Jamie? Neither is he.

Chapter One
Fifteen Years Later
Jemma
“Ocean Breathes Salty” played on the radio above the noise of my cell phone ringing on the bedside table next to it.
I groaned, shifting from my right shoulder and onto my stomach, a pillow smack against my face. My eyelids stuck together as I reached out my arm, clasping the phone. A sharp pain moved down the right side of my back, primarily the shoulder blade area.
Fuck getting old.
“Hello?” I croaked into the phone, trying to ignore the song. Jamie, my ex, popped into my head enough. I didn’t need a song reminding me of him, too.
As my eyes slowly opened, I blinked back the sharp light that spilled in from half-open blinds above the bed frame. On further inspection, I noticed the icicles clinging to the windows had melted away. Leftover from the freak February snow storm we’d had on my “favorite” holiday of all, Valentine’s Day (said me, never). Nothing but damp residual dripped on the outside now.
“Jemma, honey, it’s your mother.” Mom’s upbeat, yet subtextually judgmental tone blasted into my eardrums.
Fuck me.
I pressed the cell against my cheek and rolled onto my back.
“Oh, uh, morning, Ma.” I sounded froggy as hell.
“What’s wrong with your voice?” Mom asked. “Were you still sleeping at this hour?”
The clock on the wall read 9:30 am.
“Uh, yeah, I guess I overslept.” I shrugged. Not that oversleeping was even a thing for me at this point. I never had anywhere to be other than my therapy appointments once a week in the late afternoon.
“Again?” Mom’s clicked her tongue in disapproval, and I could feel her shaking her head from the other end of that receiver. “Is it your anxiety keeping you up at night? I should call Paul. Maybe he can up the Xanax dosage.”
Paul. Or, as I usually called him, Doctor Wiig. Somehow Mom ended up on a first name basis with most of my therapists, though, so I was used to her talking about these doctors like they’d been friends for years.
“No, Ma, I’m fine. Really. Just up late… binging a Netflix show, that’s all.”
She didn’t need to know the truth.
She didn’t need to know the truth.
“Alright, well—” Mom cut off abruptly, and we sat there listening to nothing but white noise. The silence was painful. Eventually, in a deadpan tone, she added, “Hope the show was good.”
We both let out a stifled laugh, and I slid my feet down to the carpet, plopping them against the floor with oomph the same way I added the button to the end of a chapter in one of my books. Adding the button, as I liked to call it, meant that extra oomph before the closing of a scene. Except, unfortunately in this case, Mom was still on the line, and I didn’t even exactly know why she was calling.
I crossed the empty room, scarce of mostly everything. Dave had taken almost all the furniture in the divorce. I stepped over bumps in the rug, seeing the ghostly imprints from a bureau that had been here just a couple of weeks ago. These imprints were all over the room. One next to the bed that had been our side table, and another right next to the bathroom where I headed. Those imprints were from a faux fireplace that also served as the mantle for our LED TV. Dave was now the proud possessor of an entire household set of furniture.
And me? Hell, I had an entire empty two-bedroom house to myself. Woot. Life was really looking up.
My free hand reached for the handle to the bathroom, and I looked back at my IKEA bedframe. The one I’d purchased last week so I had more than a mattress to sleep on. Dave was kind enough to let me keep the mattress.
Like me, the flimsy black frame appeared as if it could snap at any time.
“Jemma? Are you listening? Now I’m really getting concerned.”
“I’m here. Sorry.” I flicked on the light switch in the bathroom and stared into the water-streaked mirror above the sink. A row of lightbulbs over the mirror illuminated my face. Two of the five bulbs needed replacements. Something I’d get around to changing eventually. But the light was enough for me to see my reflection. Specifically, the bags beneath my eyes, in the middle of a puffy, round face.
I read somewhere once that a sign of getting old was looking tired all the time. And these bags just wouldn’t seem to disappear. I guess that meant I should start welcoming the inevitable reality of my impending old age.
Everything about me seemed bland now. Neutral face. Faded green eyes. Mousy-brown hair that stuck to my skin like itchy straw.
I poked a finger beneath my right eye. Strange. It didn’t feel any puffier than it did when I was younger. But something internally was hollower than ever.
“Well, since you don’t seem to be here with me this morning,” Mom said, “I’m simply going to come out and say it.”
“What’s wrong? Who died?” I asked jokingly. Mom called me a lot, yeah, but typically she reserved her random checkups for the afternoon. After I’d slaved over my laptop for hours, banging away on my keyboard, attempting to finalize a manuscript I couldn’t seem to complete. You know, the one my agent had been waiting to receive. The next bestseller. No pressure or anything. I merely had to submit a novel that sold more than the first four.
Yeah, life was real great these days.
Maybe I should take Mom up on that offer to call Dr. Wiig. After all, my love affair with Xanax seemed to be the only one that ever lasted.
“Are you sitting down?” Mom asked.
“I’m not.”
“I think you should be sitting down for this.”
“Uh…” I slowly inched out of the bathroom and found my way back to the bed. Sliding down against the sheets, I asked in a more serious voice, “What is it?”
Mom said the next words as if she were simply giving me a weather report for the day.
“Jamie’s dead.”

“Ocean Breathes Salty” carried me away.
Rachel Radner has been writing since the first grade when her teacher handed her a journal and instructed her to write about her day. Since then she’s continued journalling… though she spends most of her time writing fictional stories. There’s always another idea that comes to her randomly. You should see the notes on her phone. Seriously.

Rachel lives in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and two furry Golden Retrievers (*cough* children *cough*). When she isn’t writing, she can be seen drinking coffee or tea… and probably watching something geeky on the internet. Or writing Star Wars fanfiction. Oh yeah, and she also has an unhealthy obsession with history and learning languages.

New Release & Review ~ Learning Curves ~ by ~ Molly O’Hare

Release Date: June 8
Learning Curves is a single dad, enemies to lovers, curvy girl rom-com with a teacher that everyone wished they had in school, and a swoon-worthy dad that would do anything for his daughter. Throw in an over-eating dog and watch what happens next.

To Spencer Hurley, women only left pain and destruction in their wake. The only good thing that came from his disaster of an ex was his daughter, Annabelle. Right now, making sure Belle was taken care of and getting her the help she needed with her learning disabilities was his only focus. And if that meant moving to a new town, consider the moving truck rented and packed.

Ellie Ryan spent her childhood being judged and bullied because of her learning disabilities. Jokes on them, though, she was now the top special education teacher in her district. See, Ellie totally had her life together. Kind of. Maybe… Okay, really, she’s a word-vomiting, curvy, hot-mess, who hasn’t had a date in who knows how long. And then there was Roxy, her rude over-eating dog. Nevertheless, Ellie was fiercely protective of her students. She’d gladly rip out the throat of anyone that dared to mess with her kids. Including their parents.

So, please explain to Ellie why, even after calling her new student’s father out during a disastrous parent-teacher meeting, Ellie couldn’t help being insanely attracted to the gruff single dad? Somebody, please help her. Besides, nothing good could come from it… right?

YO! Hey, thanks for coming to my about me to check me out! Has anyone told you, you’re beautiful and amazing lately? Just in case they haven’t, I am!

So you want to know a little more about me? Well okay then. Much like any author out there, sleeping doesn’t come easily to me. As it turns out, I’ve got horrible insomnia. Like, scary horrible. Anyway, when I was younger, to help myself fall asleep I’d tell myself stories. Each night I’d pick up where the story left off previously until it was complete. Then I started writing them down. A few months later, here I am, sharing my lack of sleep with all of you. Who said the stories in our heads can’t be fun for others?

Harmony answered her phone. “Good afternoon.”

“Hey, sexy.”

Even through the phone, this man’s voice caused her to squeeze her thighs together.

“Will you be working all night?”

“Actually no. That’s why I called. I’ll be done in about two hours. Do you want to hang out?”

Yes!

“That sounds good,” she said casually.

“All right. I can swing by and pick you up.”

“I’m at Lauren’s. Can you pick me up here?”

He chuckled, and she could imagine the lines by his eyes when he smiled.

“You two having happy hour?”

“Yep.”

“All right. Just don’t get too carried away. I have plans for you later, and you’ll need your energy.”

“What plans?”

She took a drink of wine to keep from laughing. She knew what he was thinking but was curious what he would say when pressed.

“Plans that involve my head between your thighs.”

She spat out her wine. “Holy shit, Chase.”

He laughed. “Too much?”

She grabbed a napkin off the table and cleaned up. “No, just unexpected. I guess I never really knew this side of you.”

“Just thinking of you brings up so many dirty thoughts.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. And I can’t wait to share every one with you.”

“You want to share some more now?”

He chuckled. “I never knew you liked dirty talk.”

“There is a lot you don’t know about me,” she said, hoping her voice sounded sultry.

“Mmm. Is that so?”

“If you play your cards right, I might let you get to know more.”

He growled. “Tonight, I’m going to get to know you really well, babe. I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”

“I’m looking forward to it.”

She ended the call. “Damn that man!”

“Someone has it bad.” Lauren walked into the room, carrying a bowl.

“Yeah. I do.”

New Release ~ A Date for Good Luck ~ by ~ Heidi McLaughlin & LP Dover

Title: A Date for Good Luck
Series: The Dating Series
Authors: Heidi McLaughlin & LP Dover
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 9, 2020

New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover come together for a sexy new series that delivers romance for every season!

Kiss the Blarney Stone, Hope Dunn is going to need some good ole fashion Irish luck! In the chaos of tax season the Arizona accountant is pulled away to stand in her cousin’s wedding. All it takes is one step back in the Big Apple, and she regrets making the trip. True to character, her mother uses their time together to hound Hope about getting married and settling down.

Still, Hope fulfills her bridesmaid obligations by joining the bridal party for a shamrock wearing, pint chugging St. Paddy’s day blow out. There she runs into best man—and smokin’ hot ginger—Kellan Townsend. Far too much green beer later, she finds out exactly what that fine Irish lad keeps under his kilt.

Afterwards, Hope wants nothing more than to walk of shame her way into a dark room and nurse her hangover. Unfortunately, wedding demands won’t allow it. As if facing Kellan isn’t awkward enough, her mother picks that moment to launch into a fresh guilt-trip over her lack of grandbabies. Like a lucky little Leprechaun, Kellan cuts in with a magical offer.

A pretend romance to get her mother off her back seems like a wish granted. But Kellan has an agenda all his own. Can he use this opportunity to jig his way straight into Hope’s heart? Or will he need a four-leaf clover to get past this workaholic’s defenses?

Kellan nods toward the bar. “Ready?” He holds out his arm and it’s as if my body moves of its own accord. I take it and he leads me to the bar. “Let me guess, green beer?”

“Please,” I scoff, waving him off, “it’s St. Patrick’s Day. I want a true Irish-inspired drink.”

The bartender walks over to us. “What’ll it be you two?”

Kellan looks to me. “Ladies first.”

“I’ll take an Irish Eyes,” I say. The bartender nods and smiles and then turns to Kellan.

Kellan laughs at me. “Irish whiskey, huh? I think I’ll do the same.” The bartender pours the whiskey in a glass and mixes it with a little cream and green crème de menthe. Kellan holds up his glass and looks in my eyes. “It actually matches your eyes. But you’re not Irish.”

I shake my head. “Nope. Got a lot of German in me though.”

Kellan takes a sip of his drink. “Don’t know why this is called Irish Eyes. The most common eye color among Irish is blue.”

Holding up my glass, I clank it against his. “Just like yours.”

His blue eyes twinkle and I avert my gaze to my drink. The way he looks at me makes things stir inside of me and I really don’t need my insides to be stirred right now, or even think of it for that matter. I should probably stop drinking.

“So, tell me,” Kellan calls out, “how long are you in town for?”

I take a sip of my drink, it’s loaded with Irish whiskey. “Only till the wedding,” I respond, meeting his gaze again. “After that, I have to get back.”

His lips pull back slightly in that sexy grin of his. “So, not long then. Hate to hear it.” I’m starting to hate it too. Shaking my head, I try to drive all indecent thoughts out of my mind, but all I can think about is hearing his voice in the dark, whispering in my ear as he touches me. I push the drink aside and Kellan laughs. “Too much for you?”

I rub a hand over my face. The room feels hot, but that’s probably because I’m tipsy and he’s making me want things I shouldn’t. “Actually, I was a little drunk to begin with. I think I need some air.”

Kellan takes my hand. “Come on. There’s a private area out back we can sit. I’ll grab you a bottle of water and we can go out there.”

He asks the bartender for a water and hands it to me. We walk out of the private room into the hallway and I guzzle the water as we head toward the door. When Kellan opens it, it leads out onto a balcony that overlooks the river. There are people everywhere and I can hear their chattering, but the cool air feels good on my skin.

“Better?” Kellan asks.

I nod. “Much. I just needed some fresh air.” There are two wrought iron chairs and he guides me into one.

“How much have you had to drink today?”

Groaning, I close my eyes. “Well … I was forced into taking Jell-O shots in the limo. To be honest, I’m not a huge drinker. Doesn’t take much to get me drunk.” Kellan laughs and it makes me smile. That’s one of the things I never forgot about him … the way he laughs.

“What are you smiling about?” he asks, laughing again.

I turn to face him. “Your laugh. I remember it from a long time ago. You were always so fun to be around. I always thought you’d end up with Hannah one day.”

Smiling, he shakes his head. “No. I always had my eye on someone else. Didn’t work out though.”

“You mean Bridget?” I ask.

“Fuck no,” he blurts out. “That was over a long time ago.”

His smile fades and I can see a flash of pain in those blue eyes of his. “What happened?”

Sighing, he looks off into the distance. “She did me wrong. Never thought I’d get hurt, but I did. After she left me for someone else, I just didn’t give a shit anymore.”

“Is that when you started growing a beard? In the pictures Hannah and Hallie sent over the years, I thought you were a homeless man.” That’s not exactly true. He’s always been good looking, but I really did hate the long, scraggly beard. Now, he looks sexy with just the stubble.

Kellan chuckles hard. “You thought I looked homeless? That’s messed up, Hope.”

I shrug. “Hey, you don’t look it now.” I glance down at his green get up. “Right now, you look like a leprechaun.”

He peers down at my green tutu. “And you look like a silly fairy.” But then he looks up at me and winks. “A cute one, by the way.” We watch the people walk by on the street and they’re all having such a grand ole time. It’s easy to get lost in the appeal. Feels like it’s been forever since I’ve let loose and had fun.

Kellan leans back in his chair. “So, tell me about yourself. What’s changed since the last time I saw you?”

I shrug. “Not much. Got older and left town.”

His brows lift curiously. “Dating anyone?”

“No,” I reply, shaking my head. “I was seeing someone a few months ago, but it didn’t work out. We really didn’t have anything in common. He was all into trail riding on his bike and I just couldn’t get into it. I tried once and broke my wrist.”

Kellan snorts. “And did he wear that girly looking spandex shit?”

The thought makes me smile. “Yep, but he wasn’t very masculine to begin with. Maybe that’s why I really wasn’t attracted to him. Not that I need a man to protect me, but it’d be nice to have someone who could defend my honor if need be.” I roll my eyes. “Okay, I must really be drunk to say crap like that.”

He smirks. “I get it. A woman should feel protected when she’s with her man.”

The door opens and Stewart steps out. “There you both are,” he says, looking concerned.

Kellan stands and I do the same. “Is everything okay?”

Stewart sighs. “I think Hallie’s had too much to drink. She’s sick so we’re going to head back to the house. The limo should be here in five minutes.”

I nod. “We’ll be there.”

Usually, I’d want the night to end, but I don’t want it to now. Plus, I don’t want to go home. My mother will still be awake and all too ready to finish her conversation about how I need to get busy with my life and find a husband. And if I don’t, she’ll handle it for me. My goal was to not go home until I knew she was asleep.

“What’s wrong?” Kellan asks.

With a heavy sigh, I meet his gaze. “I don’t want to go home just yet.”

He shrugs. “Then don’t. You can come with me and I’ll take you home later.”

The thought tempts me, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not. I trust Kellan not to do anything stupid, but the problem is me. I’m the one I need to worry about.

“Are you sure?” I ask, second guessing myself, but then he opens his lips and talks to me in that sexy Irish brogue.

“Come on, lassie. It’ll be fine.”

How can I say no to that?

Title: Heart Thief
Series: Sinister Fairy Tales Collection
Author: Ker Dukey
Genre: Dark Fairy Tale Retelling
Release Date: June 8, 2020

Monsters come in many forms.
Some want shiny new toys to play with—others want blood.
Mona Walters dreams of adventure, of a world beyond the shoreline she’s confined to. She yearns for vibrancy in her dull, mundane existence, but succumbs to the bleakness.
Until the necklace her sister wore the night she was brutally murdered shows up on her door wrapped in a neat bow, fueling her to run away and seek out the person responsible for stealing her sister’s life.
Mona wished for more—for color in her gray world.
What she didn’t realize was just how much more she would get.
And that the world outside her own was soaked in red—blood red.
The world she dreamed of is made of nightmares.
A rich, influential world of two brothers—and once they have her in their sights, they plan to keep her there.
Her father kept her secluded for a reason.
Be careful what you wish for.
There’s a thief out there, and he’s coming for Mona’s heart.

Cold burrows into my marrow. My self-preservation to seek out warmth has my feet inching toward a roaring fire in a grand room lavished with furniture and rugs. This place is huge, like nothing I’ve ever seen before. We live a minimal life with only the true essentials. Everything else is considered an indulgence, and that’s sinful. Apparently.

A graze scorching with pain to my knee makes me wince, the torn material of my dress rubbing against the broken skin. “Hello?” I call out, inching closer and closer to the roaring orange glow of the fire. Shadows dance down the walls as footfalls sound just outside the room I was deposited inside by the man who said he was security.

“Look what the tide washed in,” a deep rumble booms across the room.

My hand wraps around my waist to ease the nerves.

“This is private property. Do you want to tell me what it is you’re doing docking here?” The voice steps into the light, stealing my breath.

He looks like a man from the stories Clara used to tell me at night when I couldn’t sleep. Dark probing eyes seek me out, making a quiver of excitement and fear ripple through my body. Powerful arms fold across a broad chest covered in clothes I’m not used to: formal wear, a suit.

He has a confidence about him that commands the space he’s dominating with his size. He’s taller than me by a comfortable foot and a half. As he edges closer, the urge to run away sends a rush of energy to my legs. “Do you speak?” He narrows his dark orbs on me, bringing a hand up to loosen a tie around his neck.

Moving toward a table set out with bottles full of liquids, he asks, “Drink?”

The dryness of my throat aches. A longing to quench a thirst I hadn’t realized I had has me nodding and pushing a meek, “Yes, please,” past my lips.

The quirk of his lips doesn’t go unnoticed as he pours amber liquid into two glasses and hands me one. His fingers brush mine as I accept the offering, sending a spark over my skin. My eyes fixate on the contents of the glass. There are two mouthfuls at most. Maybe he can’t spare more. I smile a thank you and lift the glass, taking a sip.

A harsh burn explodes over my tongue, making me gag. “Oh God, what is that?” I choke out, holding the glass out to give it back to him. A harsh laugh barks from his lips, making my stomach dip.

“You’re one of them, aren’t you?” He steps toward me, closing in around me like a predator would prey. I shuffle back, bumping my hip against a couch.

“One of who?” I frown.

“Cult Island.” He scoffs, snatching the glass from me and throwing the contents into the fire. It hisses and snaps, flames jumping out in retaliation. “I should have guessed by what you’re wearing.” He smirks, his eyes lazily roaming down my body, making a blush bloom on my cheeks.

The storm raging in the Gulf isn’t the only thing brewing between these
two…

Cutter Thompson

Hurricane Tatum, a category five storm hell-bent on making landfall along the
Alabama coast, is my opportunity, to show my friends and family the kind of man
I’ve become.

The kid who lost his scholarship and the love is life is ready for a change. A
change I’m equal parts scared will and won’t come.

An EMT wasn’t my first choice of careers, but it’s become my calling. When the
winds die down, the skies clear, and the rain stops, we’re left with
devastation the likes of which I’ve never seen.

What I come to realize is ugly destruction can be beautiful, if we can only
figure out what perspective to see it.

Rowan Baker

The LSERT is a godsend, especially as us local first responders emerge from our
shelters to see our town and homes destroyed. It’s going to take time to
rebuild.

Rebuilding is what I’m used to. After I watched my four-year-old daughter die
in my arms I’ve done nothing but try to find a reason to live.

But I’ve got baggage. Memories, an ex-husband, and a fear I won’t be able to
save everyone.

When I meet Cutter Thompson, he reminds me rebuilding can mean letting go of
fear and allowing myself to live the life I’ve wanted all along.
