My ears are flooded with the noises spewing from the intercom, frustrating my subconscious. The constant borage of feet pattering along the halls, totally disregarding my belligerent sobbing, only encourages the anger that’s slowly building within me. Sobbing that becomes obnoxiously louder the more I think of her smile. Her embrace. Her soft touch against my thick, hardened exterior. A touch that will never be felt again. All because of choices I made. Decisions that kept me from being by her side and bringing us here. A place I’ll never return to that’s full of saddened, lonely people facing life-altering decisions. Just as I have. A decision that has been taken from me because we weren’t married yet. So, her heartless fucking parents made that irrevocable decision to pull the plug. Exiling my pleas to hold off and give her more time. More time to fight … for her life … for us … for me. But, those pieces of shits don’t even acknowledge my need to keep her alive. Regardless of what the doctors say, they are not always right. They can actually be wrong. But as it turns out, they are all against me. I am the one that’s wrong. Well fuck them! Fuck their judgments. Fuck their forsaken attitudes. Fuck their cavalier convictions. Fuck. Them.

I slowly peel myself up from the hospital floor, wiping the remaining tears from my face ignoring the dampness of my torn t-shirt. I stand across from her room, staring through the glass watching her life drain from her body. When other guys my age were out doing God knows what, I was home making school lunches, helping with math homework, and making dioramas of Native American stories all the while keeping up with my very lucrative gaming hustle. I haven’t been with a woman in years. My last steady girlfriend was the girl I took to prom three months before my parents died. I haven’t been out with a woman in at least ten years. I tried to date at first but it was hard. Having a relationship just wasn’t possible. Most women only want me for my money. The others want fame. I am not inclined to let them seek it with me. Others ran when I told them I was raising my six younger brothers. Besides, there is only one woman I want and I don’t even know who she really is.

Her profile picture is just an up-close photo of stunning brown eyes and a sweep of brown bangs. Every time I upload something, she trolls the fuck out of me and oddly enough I love it. I finish the live game play and scroll through the comments. I am actively looking for her. Her snide, witty comments make me happy for some reason. My life revolved around my brother’s and gaming. Now that they are grown men and gaming holds little appeal, I relish reading her comments.

Now that my brothers are out there in the world, I’m finding myself having a bit of empty nest syndrome. They are doing things they are proud of, while I can’t even seem to be happy doing what I do. Even Kyle, who graduated high school in May, is already taking summer courses at the University Of South Florida. Logan is the only one who has his own apartment, but he’s always on the road so I don’t know why he has the damn thing. He plays professional rugby in the United Kingdom. He’s twenty-two with a lot to prove.


Just as I am about to shut my computer down for the night, I get a message on my website’s chat feature. Usually, I ignore those, preferring to interact with comments, but tonight I can’t.
It’s her. I decide that tonight’s the night I get to know her better.

I go for Gigi’s leash first, just to get ahold of her, but she and her new friend are too excited. The golden starts chasing her around the tree trunk, and before I know it, the golden’s leash is wrapped around my calves and my balance is quickly fading. One playful lunge at Gigi later, and I’m on my way to busting ass on the pavement. I cringe and prepare myself for impact.

Impact that never comes. At least where I’m expecting it.

Instead of hitting the sidewalk, I fall back into what feels like a wall of muscle that smells like soap and happiness. The wall of muscle’s muscular arms wrap around me and set me to rights, leaving me fully vertical and a little bit dazed.

Wall of Muscle untangles the leashes and scoops Gigi up, then gives the golden a few pats on the head. When I get a glimpse of his face, I hear angels singing.

He’s tall, broad, could probably carry me, the golden and Gigi up Runyon Canyon without breaking a sweat. He has sparkling blue eyes made brighter by the sun shining on them, artfully tousled blondish-brown hair and a movie-star smile with a slightly crooked front tooth.

As a matter of fact, he may actually be a movie star. He looks kinda familiar, but I don’t want to do that thing that people do to me and stare at him a little too long trying to place his face.

“I think this fell out of your bag,” he says, looking down at Gigi. I wrap my leash around my wrist to be safe, but he doesn’t let her go. He does, however, hand over my bag. And my coffee.

I think I’m in love.

Gavin and Penny are just so great. Gavin is a quiet, keep to himself, single dad of Penny when he meets country superstar Sutton. I truly love when there is a sweet, sweet little kid like Penny who basically just makes you want to reach through your kindle and hug them. I’m not a kid person so when there is a kid character that makes ME want to like the kid, you know it’s a great character development.

Plus, this whole series of Everton is just such a great read. I love series where you meet the townsfolk and each book makes you fall in love with each character and then each character gets their own story in a book in the series.

I don’t know what I will do when book 7 is out. Besides cry. Or stalk Fabiola for the next book/series 😉

Butt-ass naked.

That’s how he opens the damn door, dangling ornaments and all. I pry my eyes away and glance at the pig-sty, he calls a bedroom. Clothes are thrown everywhere, books and magazines all over the floor, every surface has a mug, and it stinks. Considering the whole house looks immaculate, I’m wondering what happened here.

Orin clears his throat, which does little to get Ledger to cover up. “Mr. Ledger, can you please find something suitable to cover up with? Norah has taken anatomy; she doesn’t need a study session.”

Accidentally, I snort aloud and quickly cover it up with a cough when both men’s eyes land on me. Ledger rests against the door frame, not an ounce of shame on his two-hundred-pound muscular body.

“The smell,” I offer as a cover-up, “it got all up in my nostrils.” The last thing I need is a lesson on anything from the Internet’s porn star.

“Ah, yes.” Orin raises his hand in the air, inviting me in without Ledger okaying it. “Mr. Ledger has been having issues dealing with his sister’s supposed disappearance. Nine days, I assume, is enough social isolation.”

“Isolation?” I ask the naked man, who has not budged, without making eye contact. No way in hell am I going inside if he doesn’t move. His massive form takes up most of the space—not in height, because rich people have something against normal-sized doors, but in width.

His wide arms are almost unnatural and yet utterly fascinating this up close and personal. The dips and grooves of his pectorals are magnetic, nearly sinking my jaw to the floor when the future-doctor in me counts each abdominal.

For anatomical purposes, I tell myself. Symmetrical. No malformations anywhere on him. Well, except his personality.

Ledger flicks his gorgeous grayish-blue eyes over me before rolling his head and removing himself from the doorframe, turning his perfectly sculpted ass to me as he strolls over to his bed and picks up a pair of dark denim jeans. “You could leave me alone for another few days, O.”

“To do what? Mope around?” Orin picks up a shirt from a folded pile on the desk and throws it at him.

Ledger expertly catches it in the air, flexing his biceps in the process. “To grieve. To deal with losing a sister,” he spits back.

“She’s not dead,” I pipe up as I come inside. There’s no point in dismissing the opportunity of talking to a source.

Ledger stops midway, one pant leg up at his knee, and glares at me. Orin finds my statement intriguing, or maybe he’s just constipated. He kind of looks like he’s holding in a tank of gas between his butt cheeks, and this place smells like methane and decomposition.

“Excuse me?” Ledger clips out, earning me a sympathetic look from the house manager.

“Mr. Ledger—” Orin’s intervention is quickly cut short.

“Has she signed the NDA?”
