Blog Tour & Review ~ Something So Perfect ~ by ~ Natasha Madison

Matthew

Drafted first round pick when I was seventeen, playing first line at eighteen, branded NHL’s bad boy at nineteen. At twenty-three I was cut from the team and living back home with my parents. A knock on the door brought an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. All I had to do was prove I learned from my mistakes, so no way would I fall for a chick with a pouty mouth even if I wanted to spend all day devouring it.

Karrie

When my father gave me a job, I had no idea it would be to babysit some washed up NHL player. He wanted me to be his chaperone, his overpaid babysitter. I thought it was a joke. Then I met him, Matthew Grant. I wasn’t prepared for this particular bad boy. He’s not only hot but he’s arrogant and kinda sweet in a ‘you make me crazy’ kind of way.
Basically now that he’s finished screwing up his life, he’s decided to turn mine upside down.

She’s the first thing I’ve ever wanted more than hockey.

He’s the guy I know I should stay away from.

But what if this thing that started out so wrong turns into something so perfect?

“Okay,” Robert starts, “we have your contract here. It’s a one-year contract for two point one million, as per your agent.” He smiles at me because I don’t have an agent. I have Cooper. “We also have the stipulation clause. I know last time you weren’t happy with some of them, but it’s the only way we can both win.” He opens the folder in front of him. “You will be living in a brownstone in Brooklyn.” The page flips over while he continues to read. “Your chaperone will live with you.” He looks up, waiting to see if I’ll say something, and I almost say fuck off. “It’s a three-story brownstone. You each have your own floor to do as you please.”

I nod at him. It isn’t as bad as I thought and maybe me and my roommate will be each other’s wing man. “Your chaperone will be at your side each time you go out. Especially, game day and traveling. Of course you will each have your own room when traveling, but it will be connecting.”
“I hope this guy is up for Netflix and working out.” I smile at them, my hand itchy to sign the papers before I call it all off.
Doug gets up, going to the phone on the table, pressing a couple of buttons. “Can you come to the conference room, please?” He hangs up right after.

“If you mess up even once, your contract is null and void,” Doug says, sitting down just as the door opens and I turn my head to stare at the person who just walked in.

“You?” I stand up, looking back at the other people at the table. The chick from the gym walks in, this time wearing black tight pants and a white button-down shirt, rolled up at the wrists. “Is this a joke?”

“I can assure you I had the same reaction when I was asked,” she says sternly. “I don’t want this any more than you do, but it is what it is.”

“She tried to pick me up yesterday.” I put my hands on my hips, telling the table.

“Are you insane?” she huffs out, her voice rising. “You and your anatomy landed on me.” She looks at Doug. “Right in my back.”

I roll my eyes at her.

“Karrie,” Doug says, looking at her.

“What?” She shrugs at him. “He couldn’t even contain himself, and he thinks I tried to pick him up.” She looks at me. “You wish.”

I pfft out. “Please, one word and you would have come home with me.” I look at the men in front of me. “You guys can’t be serious.” I then look back at Karrie. “Besides, how old is she? Twelve?”

“Pervert. I would have pulled the fire alarm and kicked you in the nuts.” She crosses her arms over her chest, making her tits strain against the buttons. “Either way you would have ended up in the same place. Alone. With bruised nuts.”

Robert slaps the table. “That’s enough, you two.” He looks at both of us. “Now, you two have a lot of catching up to do. I will forward you both the travel schedule.” He stands up, grabbing the papers, and slapping me on the shoulder. “Good to have you.”

Coach Dan gets up also, smirking at me while I stand here speechless that they allow a girl to chaperone me. Not just any girl, the hottest fucking girl I’ve ever set eyes on. I had to take care of myself three times since I stumbled on her.

“You two try not to kill each other.” Dan looks at Karrie. “Be good, sweetheart.” And he kisses her cheek.

“Really?” I throw my hands in the air. “Does no one think this is a ridiculous idea?” I look around the room and the only one left is Doug, who gets up.

“I think it’s the best thing to ever happen to you.” He walks over to squeeze my shoulder. “But if you make my little girl cry”—he leans in, whispering—“they won’t find your body.”

My mouth opens and closes, and then opens again, not a sound coming out.

Prepare for your next book boyfriend! Matthew is definitely it. At least he was mine – except for the name Matthew because that reminds me of a kid I went to school with whose mom called him Matthew and drove me nuts – that could be because I couldn’t stand her anyway.

Anyway, Matthew was drafted into the NHL and partied. HARD. He was 17 and was suddenly swimming in puck bunnies and fame. Fast forward a few years when he is no longer the hot shot and is bumped down to the farm team. Until he gets another shot and he’s NOT screwing this one up.

Karrie is hired by her dad to babysit the bad boy of hockey. Which is the LAST thing she wants to do but she will do it for her dad. With some rules of course.

This was a funny but sweet story. I absolutely loved Matthew (despite his name). He knew he wanted Karrie and that was all. He was making it known (at least to Karrie) she’s his and he’s definitely hers.

5 stars!

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

You can call me arrogant as much as you want. But when you're the best at what you do and have the hottest restaurant on the west coast, with enough Michelin stars to make Gordon Ramsay's head spin, you've earned the right to your confidence.

When I give an instruction in the kitchen, it's not a suggestion–it's an order. So when a new chef thinks she can do things her way, and dares to say so to my face, even her sharp wit and gorgeous pouty lips don't make it okay.

But I have to admit, she's got talent. She's creative in the kitchen and not even that double-breasted chef jacket can hide her perfect body. As I get to know her, I can't help wanting to know everything she thinks. I've never met a more talented chef. And I've never met a sassier and sexier woman in my life.

There's only one way this push and pull can end.

With her in my bed, begging for more.

EXCERPT:

She lets out a sigh of relief, but my cock hears something different in her gasping exhale. I bring my thumb slowly to a speck at the side of her mouth, fingers resting on the round perfection of her jawline. She stills under my touch and catches my gaze, time slowing with the deliberateness of my movements.

I brush the speck, but don’t pull away. Instead, I bring my thumb back across those ever-pouted lips, tracing their dip and fullness, letting her feel the texture of hands rough and scarred from a lifetime in kitchens, our eyes locked together in a moment of anticipation, emotions raging like an angry sea against the dam of the distance between us.

Her lips part slightly, I feel her shortening breath on my hand, and I push my thumb between those juicy, perfect lips, fingers pressing against the base of her ear. Her gentle gasp breaks the silence, before she closes those soft lips around my thumb, the sight of them pressing against my skin making my cock full against my pants. Her teeth gently squeezing my nail, tongue flickering as I push the finger inside the hot wetness of her mouth.

My other hand already on her waist, I pull her toward me, press her lithe body up against mine. Those magnificent hips swaying and rubbing against mine, her weight shifting onto me, breasts heaving, nipples so hard now I can feel them through that sweater dress.

“You’re fucking incredible,” I growl. Prelude to pulling her toward me, my finger in her mouth still, angling her head so I can taste the tenderness of her neck, run my sensitive tastebuds down the taut muscles, follow the path that leads me to the front of her chest. Quiet moans getting louder as I run my tongue down the softness of her cleavage, her dress my enemy now as I pull it down and bury my teeth in her breasts.

“Oh God…” she moans. “Cole…”

 TBRreview

This was my first J.D. Hawkins book. I've been intrigued before but hadn't read any but I will be from now on! This was another book that had me engaged from page 1! And another male romance author that does NOT write written porn, as I've seen some male authors do.

I know nothing about cooking, being a chef or running a restaurant but I think this story really nails it. Cole isn't just a celebrity chef banking on his former TV show, he's the real deal. You can read his passion for food and cooking as he is describing the restaurant business and cooking and ingredients.

Willow is a chef from the Midwest but has brought her love of cooking and food to Knife, Cole's restaurant. She challenges Cole and how he presents food and menu items.

I think Cole and Willow balanced each other out perfectly. Cole had the celebrity and the knowledge but Willow had the fresh look at food and ingredients that Cole needed. A great story!

Blog Tour & Review ~ Suddenly Engaged ~ by ~ Julia London

Can Kyra and Dax let go so easily—or has love become a preexisting condition?

SUDDENLY ENGAGED
Lake Haven #3
Julia London
Releasing July 25, 2017
Montlake

Single mother Kyra Kokinos spends her days waiting tables, her nights working on her
real estate license, and every spare moment with her precocious six-year-old
daughter, Ruby—especially when Ruby won’t stop pestering their grumpy next-door
neighbor. At first glance, Dax Bishop seems like the kind of gruff, solitary
guy who’d be unlikely to offer a cup of sugar, let alone a marriage proposal.
But that’s exactly what happens when Ruby needs life-saving surgery.

Dax showed up in East Beach a year ago, fresh from a painful divorce and looking for a
place where he could make furniture and avoid people. Suddenly his life is
invaded by an inquisitive munchkin in sparkly cowboy boots—and her frazzled,
too-tempting mother. So he presents a practical plan: his insurance will help
Ruby, and then they can divorce—zero strings attached.

But soon Kyra and Dax find their engagement of convenience is simple in name only. As
their attraction deepens, a figure from the past reappears, offering a way out.
Can Kyra and Dax let go so easily—or has love become a preexisting condition?

TastyToursReview

I love little Ruby!! She is the most adorable thing. A mark of a good book, when you totally fall for one of the secondary characters. And I did.

Kyra is a struggling single mom but she’s doing the best she can with what she has, and for that I wholly admire her and any single mom or dad. And Ruby is a precocious little thing so trying to rein in her spirit was a full-time job in itself.

Dax is just trying to get through the day, building and making furniture when this little pixie Ruby keeps coming over to his house to pet his dog. Which I can’t blame her for, I’d probably do the same thing! But Dax has had some tougher times and he just wants to keep to himself. But Ruby and her mom are just enough to convince him to stop being a hermit.

This story grabbed me immediately. I had to know how Dax and Kyra would get together and how Ruby fit in and what other mischief she would get into next.

Erik Anderson is paying for his mistakes and enduring every bit of pain that comes his way. After all, if it weren’t for him, the girl who gave him more than he deserved would still be alive. Even if he were to be put out of his misery, he’d never see her again. Considering angels go to heaven and sinners go to hell, Erik’s going to burn.

Polly Madison has never had it easy. She wouldn’t even know what that looked like. Young and naive, she learned the hard way how vindictive some men can truly be. She’s fought her whole life for stability and control, both of which she refuses to give up ever again since she’s older and wiser now.

When Polly and Erik run into each other in the most clichéd way possible, it shouldn’t have meant anything.

Lost in her eyes, Erik sees a future he’d given up on.

They try to fight it. Try to deny something neither is prepared for. But when his own insecurities put her in harm’s way, Erik knows protecting Polly’s life is more important than continuing to wreck his.

Anna began writing when she thought the world would want to hear her sick lyrics through song. Since then, she’s realized her childhood dream wasn’t so far-fetched, just misguided. TBRsynopsis

Sometimes love is better the second time around.

The last thing she needs is a man to complicate things. But former bad boy turned friend Nick McGuire has turned everything upside down.

Attorney Nick McGuire wasn’t meant to be a family man. His career has always been his focus, and after taking time out to help his mother, he’s ready to get back to the city…until Mia and her daughters arrive at Firefly Lake. Mia is beautiful and intriguing, and it doesn’t take long to realize being “just friends” will never be enough. As the summer nights turn colder, Nick will have to choose between the life he’s always wanted…and the woman he can’t live without.

Excerpt:

“I want this.” Mia lifted her face to his as a cloud scudded across the moon. “I want you.”

Even if it could only be for tonight, she was Mia, not a mom, not a sister, and not a wife who’d been tossed aside for someone younger and curvier. For this one moment, she didn’t have any responsibilities except what she wanted and needed.

I want you, too.” Nick took her hand and led her toward the car. “A part of me has wanted you since I was fifteen and you hung out at the town beach in that green bikini with the white flowers.”

Her heart lurched. He’d noticed her enough to remember the bikini she’d hidden from her mom. The one she’d bought because she’d heard Nick say he liked green. “You were always with the guys by the life guard station.” Everything about him was a lot sexy and a little bit dangerous.

“I wanted to see you.” His smile was forced, like the admission cost him more than he wanted her to know.

Mia curved her cold hand into his warm one. She’d guessed she’d hurt him the one time they’d gone out, but until tonight she hadn’t understood how much. She couldn’t regret the past, and she couldn’t predict the future, but she could do something about the present. “I want to be with you. Even though we’re not teenagers anymore and I don’t have that green bikini.

Nick’s gaze skimmed her body from head to toe and lingered at her breasts. Then he gave her a grin that was pure bad boy. “I was always a lot more interested in what was underneath that bikini anyway.”

He opened the passenger door for her to slide in.

She looked at him from under her lashes and flirted like she’d wanted to do all those years ago but had been too shy. “You were, were you?”

“Oh yeah.” He shut the car door and, in the sudden silence, panic rolled over her again. Except, there was excitement too…

Ian and Annie’s story is one of my FAVES!!! I LOVE when the Hero is injured in some way and the heroine is hired to be his physical therapist, nurse, housekeeper, etc. And this was that!

Annie has been hired by Ian’s dad to help keep up Ian’s place since he won’t/doesn’t pick up after himself. Annie needs this job, not just to earn money but to get out of her family’s house every once in a while.

Ian has gone through unspeakable events and won’t talk about it. He just sits around in the dark, drinking and being morose. Until Annie brings light into his life.

Definitely a story I will be re-reading. And I need to read the others. You don’t have to read them first in order to read this one, I didn’t and I did just fine.

5 stars!!

“Oh be still my beating heart!! Ms Day you did a number on it and I thank you for that.” – Cranky – The Book Curmudgeon

“This is a must read for lovers of dark stories, and I am in awe of this talented author’s work. Brilliant work Mira!!” – Wendy’s Book Blog

“This book was killer. Quick but killer. It dealt with some dark topics. Heck I didn’t see half the twists that this story threw at me till it was too late. Please have some tissues when reading this story. Big high five to Mira Day” – Brandi on Goodreads

My Jenny.

Best friends since we were five years old. She was there for me when I lost my mom. There for me when my dad used me as a punching bag. She was my rock and I needed her more than she ever knew.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen her. So long since I’ve held her hand and felt her heartbeat nearly in sync with my own. She came back for me; my rock, to help me bury the man who shaped who I’ve become.

But she didn’t come alone.

I was used to losing parents, but losing Jenny? To him? No. She’s MY Jenny.

Michael pours me another glass of bourbon. Its burn is nothing compared to the tortured world inside my mind.

“We’ll make sure she never leaves us…ever again.”

I nod my head as the room goes dark.

I can keep a secret.

“So, how did your date go the other night?” She takes a swig of beer and turns to look me in the eyes. Her baby blues are bright against the dark bar background, the neon lights enhancing everything.

I shrug. “Meh. She was a bit boring.”

“Jesus, I swear. If it’s not one thing it’s another.” Jenny kicks my bar stool, laughing. I love it when she laughs. Her whole chest heaves and it’s hard not to pay attention to that. “So what made her so boring?”

I lock my eyes on hers and take a pull from my beer.

She’s not you.

Swallowing, I lick my lips. “I don’t know. She just didn’t keep my interest.”

“You still slept with her though, didn’t you?”

Is that a glimmer of disappointment I see? Damn it, why does she have to know me well enough to know that?

I give her a sly smile and she punches me in the arm. “You dog! Sounds like she kept your interest peaked just long enough.”

“Well, with tits the size of melons,” I hold my hands out, “it’s hard not to be a little interested.” I instantly hate myself for saying that to her.

Way to go, Genius. Right before you confess your undying love to a girl, tell her about the sex you just had the other night. Smooth.

Luckily, my Jenny knows me. She gives me a scoff before taking another drink. I focus on her lips wrapped around the bottle. The way her throat moves as the liquid makes its way down. My dick twitches, and I shift in my seat to ease the sudden confines of my pants. Jesus, what she does to me.

“Jenny, I need-”

I hear her phone ring, and she holds her hand up. “Hold that thought, B. Hello?” She starts to slide off the stool. “Hey sweetie! Let me go outside.” She beams at me as she leaves.

I place my head in my hands, gripping my hair. Someone sets a shot in front of me, and Andy’s gravelly voice breaks into my thoughts. “You alright?”

“Fuck.” I slam the shot down and motion for another. “No dude. I’m not.”

Andy sets the next shot down and leans against the bar. “You need to man up. Quit being a bitch.” He raises his eyebrow as he pushes off, smirking.

“Pfft.”

Smug asshole.

“Sorry!” Jenny gives me her breathy apology as she climbs back on her stool beside me. Her hand touches my back to brace herself, and leg brushing against mine. Her touch sets my body on fire, as my eyes drawn to the hint of cleavage she’s showing.

“That was Ronnie. He’s stopping by.”

I stare into the second shot glass. “Fuck Ronnie.”

I want to immediately regret my words. I want to take them back and do this differently. But I don’t. I don’t regret saying what I said. Out of the corner of my eye, I watch her reaction.

“What the hell, Brandon?” She narrows her eyes. “I thought you liked Ronnie.”

What is wrong with me?

“I can’t do this anymore, Jenny.” I don’t even recognize my voice. It’s deeper, with a touch of anger that I wish I could hide. I pour the second shot of bourbon down my throat, enjoying the burn.

“Do what?”

I inhale deeply. It’s now or never. “Jenny. I love you.”

Her brows furrow together. “I love you too, Brandon.”

“No.” I drink from my beer, my hands starting to shake. I set the bottle down. “Like, I’m in love with you.”

First, he broke my heart. Then, he ripped it out of my chest.

Fifteen years ago, Beckett Longstead broke up with me, then disappeared.

One stormy night, he shows up at my doorstep bloodied and bruised, begging me for help.

I should’ve shut the door in his face. Should’ve left him to bleed.

But instead, I take him in and fix him, just like when we were teenagers.

Beckett has secrets, though, and everything about him screams guilt.

He’s hiding something terrible, but he won’t tell me what.

He claims he can’t remember. That he has amnesia.

He’s sick, plagued by nightmares, and his memory loss troubles me.

But he’s got no one else.

So against my better judgment, I welcome him into my home, and back into my vulnerable heart.

Little did I know, his sins would destroy us.

Little did I know, his secrets would ruin everything.
