She knew a relationship at this point was almost pointless. With an internship at the end of summer and then college in the fall. Her schedule was full.
Murphy told herself that she could walk away from August without any repercussions. If only her heart had listened.
Walking away at the end of the summer was difficult. But they agreed to keep in touch and see each other whenever possible. They still didn’t put a label on their relationship.
Eventually August showed his true self. He was so ashamed, he hid his secret from her for as long as possible. Now that his secret was out, Murphy had no clue how to handle it.
Will she stay with him so they can deal with it together? Or will it be too much for her to take on?
This was it. I was leaving. Most likely, I wouldn’t be back. Turning back, I gave August one last look before leaving.

I walked down the stairs, feeling a mix of emotions. Pulling out my phone, I called a taxi to come get me. I had my own credit card that my Dad got me, and some money put away from odd jobs I did the last few years. August’s mom wasn’t even up yet. The sun was just rising, and I had an overwhelming urge to run up the stairs, but I resisted. Now the taxi was on its way. I sat on the porch steps as I waited. Tears fell. What did I set myself up for? Heartbreak.
The taxi pulled up, and I slid into the back seat. “To the airport, please.”
School was four hours away, driving distance, so I decided to catch a flight, making my trip a mere hour and a half. The taxi started to pull away, and something caused me to look back.
August was standing there bare chested in a pair of jeans that resided low on his hips. His hair haphazardly messy, and defeat written all over his face.
“Stop! Leave it running,” I told the taxi driver.
Pushing the door open, I ran to August, tears streaming down my cheeks, and my heart beating so fast I thought it would explode.
He caught me in his arms, wrapping them around me tightly. “How could you leave without saying goodbye?”
Our lips crashed. And then I pulled away. “Because I’ve fallen in love with you, August. Now I’m leaving. I said I could just walk away after ten days, but it’s killing me inside.”

“I think I’m more afraid of disappointing you than anything else.” I set my glass down. “And I’m a little afraid of losing control with you. Of letting things happen and falling so hard that I break in the process.”
He pats his lap with his hands and I place my feet on him. When he starts rubbing my right foot, I groan. It feels amazing.
“Trust me to take care of you. Trust me to catch you,” he says and I relax. After a few minutes, he turns his ministrations to my left foot and I’m so relaxed, I may fall asleep. “Will you run away if I kiss you?”
My eyes are closed and I smile before I shake my head. I feel him let go of my foot and then he climbs over me. Holding his weight above me, not quite on top of me. I feel his breath on me. Cinnamon.
He takes my lips, just a taste. Then he takes another taste and another and my hands are on his back, in his hair, where ever I can touch him.
He sits up and takes me with him and before I know what I’m doing, I’m pulling off his shirt. He grabs my face between his hands and kisses me, and I’m so in the moment that I can’t be bothered about what I’m doing right or wrong.
He reaches under my shirt and runs his hand from my abdomen to my back. One hand makes light work of my bra’s clasp and then I’m leaning back to pull it from my body, throwing it across the room when I’m free. My white cotton tee is all that covers my breasts and before I can appreciate the way Maddox looks at them, he’s teasing them through the thin cotton, his finger grazing over them. Then his mouth is on my nipple, and I scoot closer to him until I’m rocking against the bulge under his zipper. Between the feel of his tongue and the way it flicks over the cotton and the way I’m rubbing myself against him, I’m ready to do anything he wants to do.
Suddenly he pushes me to stand, and I run my fingers through my messy hair as he unbuttons and tugs at my jeans. My panties come into view and he kisses my hipbones from his place on the couch. He turns me and I cry out when I feel his teeth scrape my lower back, just before the swell of my bottom.
“You’re breathtaking,” he says. I tug my shirt over my head and drop it on the floor. Then I hook my thumbs into my panties and slide those off. He’s staring at me with eyes that can’t stay still. They’re exploring and I want his hands to do the same.
I want to be naked in front of Maddox. I want him to be naked in front of me.
“Your turn,” I say, my voice little more than a whisper.
He stands and now that he’s towering over me, I can’t help but feel a little intimidated.
So I grab his belt and unbuckle it before tackling the buttons lining his groin. I brush against the hardness beneath and I try not to hold my breath. When enough of them are loosened, his jeans fall to the floor and I’m looking down at the prominent erection hidden by his blue boxer briefs.
I look up at him and he raises a brow. So I pull those down and straighten myself. I exhale and then we’re at each other. He lowers us to the floor and I arch my back, bringing my torso toward him. He runs his hand from my neck, flattening his hands between my bare breasts all the way down until he’s strumming my clit like his favorite guitar. He plays my body like a love song. There’s something sweet and intimate about the way he touches me. The way he caresses my bones, skin, and flesh. He touches me on the outside but he somehow touches me inside as well, where my soul is hidden. I know that love is such a dangerous feeling. I know it but I can’t help the way his name sits on my tongue, ready to escape the prison of my lips and teeth. The same way my heart escaped my ribcage and now only comes to life when he’s near.

It’s quiet in here now, and the silence is too loud. He’s staring down at his drink, his eyes a deep green in the low light of the bar. A crease forms between his eyebrows in a frown, and then he shakes his head, just a tiny bit. Jake sips his drink, and I can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking.
And I’m a woman, so I ask.
Because who ever heeded the whole, don’t ask the question if you don’t want the answer warning?
“What are you thinking?” I ask softly.
He chuckles and shakes his head.
“You don’t want to know.”
“I asked.”
He swivels in the stool, facing me, and rests his hand on the arm of my own stool, leaning into me, and it takes everything in me not to back away. His eyes lower to my lips.
I lick them, and watch his eyes dilate.
This is a very bad idea.
I swallow hard as he continues to watch my mouth.
“It’s quiet in here,” he says evenly.
“I was thinking the same.”
“Are you comfortable in the quiet, Addie?”
I frown and feel my nipples pucker when he reaches up and tucks my hair behind my ear. His fingers are warm.
And when he’s this close, I can’t help but breathe him in and enjoy the scent of him.
“Why shouldn’t I be?”
“Some aren’t. Some need chaos, noise. The quiet makes them nervous.”
You make me nervous.
I lick my lips again.
“I don’t mind quiet. You?”
“I love the quiet.”
I smirk. “You’re a musician.”

I blink once, twice.
“Where the truth lives?” I’m whispering now.
He simply nods. “There’s no distraction. No way to deny what is. It’s honest.”
“And you claim to be honest?”
“To a fault,” he confirms. “I’d also love to hear more about this sexcation you’re scheming.”
I feel my cheeks flush and turn away, taking another sip of my wine.
“I was simply being silly with my friends, Jake. Drop it.”

I LOVED this book! It’s funny, sweet and just a great read. While I didn’t like Kolton at first, I really liked how he became so enamored with Shay. He was determined that she was it and just had to show her.
I love this start of the series and can’t wait for Lily and Raven’s stories! I’m sure they will be a crack up too.
And Jackson reminds me of the kid from Jerry Maguire. I’m convinced they’re twins separated at birth. Read this book and tell me if you agree!
