Excerpt

I turned back to end this conversation. “Listen, Chewie—”

“Albert. My name is Albert.” He leaned closer and he wrinkled his forehead in such a way that made it obvious he was fishing for my name. He can keep on fishing because that was on a need-to-know basis. My mother always said, “Evaleen Bechmann, you are being paranoid,” but in the age of the Internet, giving him my name could be as powerful as giving him a knife.

In a way, I felt bad for Chewie-Albert. The poor guy obviously never learned how to deal with a woman. He believed groping me and refusing to take the hint that I didn’t want to go out with him was normal. And that’s just sad he’s so
oblivious.

“Okay, Albert. You seem like a nice, if not, handsy Star Wars . . . purist. You got a
killer costume that any other Star Wars purist of the female species would love—”

“I hear ya.” He winked, nodding as his eyes perused my form.

Sighing, I realized in that moment the Wookie wasn’t getting it. I shouldn’t be surprised, every man I had met hadn’t gotten it. They touched and they took, but they didn’t understand. That’s why I avoided them. Preferring to remain alone.

“I am not that female, Albert. I am the type of female who chooses to not dress in fur costumes, or skimpy princess costumes, or costumes in general. This female just likes to stand in a line and be left alone. So, good luck finding your princess, but I am as far from a princess as you will find around here.”

His shining brown eyes dimmed as my words began to sink in. Before he could get any more
Wookie courage, I turned back to find the blonde still at the counter.

Normally, I left people alone because, unlike Albert, I respected their space. But
surviving on only three hours of sleep before an interview for a job that I needed, action was necessary.

Taking a step forward, I tapped the blonde on her bulbous shoulder and took a breath.

“Excuse me, Miss, but I believe it has been ten minutes, which is plenty of time to order your drink. Some of us don’t have the luxury of time, and were kept up by our roommate doing gymnastics in bed with her boyfriend until four
in the morning.” I gritted my teeth and shook my head trying to get back on point. “So, if you wouldn’t mind placing your order and letting the rest of us have a turn . . .”

Just as I finished, the woman turned to face me. She had a beard. Also, an Adam’s apple.

The woman wasn’t a she but a he. He had a beard, lush and blond like his long hair, not
fake and matted like Albert’s costume. His eyes were the most beautiful gray, like smoke rising from a smoldering fire. They slid over my face.

I shivered.

“Miss?” His deep, velvety tone came out thick as butter and rendered me utterly catatonic.
The timbre of his voice like a sonic boom under my skin. His skin, on the other hand, remained still, smooth, and my fingers, for reasons I am attributing to lack of sleep, twitched to touch any part of him.

His eyes widened at what I could only assume was disbelief. Disbelief that a woman of twenty-six years would be referring to a fine specimen of a man, a manly man if you will, as a woman. Despite his thick blond mane and skirted attire, he was all muscle.

I realized this man was in costume too, like Chewie. Only this man was dressed like the
Scottish hero William Wallace and not a sweaty sci-fi version of Sasquatch. He even painted his face blue and white.

One would think that a tall man with thick muscles and a wild painted face would instill
fear in me, but no. Instead of running in terror, I did the opposite. I laid my hands on him. My fingers caressed his chest working their way down. Doing the exact thing I just lectured Albert not to do. I should have probably stopped.

But I didn’t.

Never in my life had I taken advantage of anyone in this manner but he gave off some
pheromone that screamed sex me with your hands. Sensing quickly how firm his chest was it propelled me farther down, down to his abs. The man had a six-pack or maybe even an eight-pack; whatever pack was hiding under that brown threadbare piece of cashmere was making my heart race and lady parts start to
turn savage themselves.

“What are you doing?”

He was still there and I was still in the coffee shop. This wasn’t a dream. The kilted blond’s voice broke me out of my self-gratifying pawing and I realized I was feeling him up, or down as the case may be.

What are you doing, Evaleen?

I froze before snapping my hands away. I began to smooth out my unwrinkled brown blazer as if I wasn’t a chest molester and nothing out of the ordinary just happened.
Clearing my throat, I tried to salvage what little dignity I had left.

“I . . . I . . .” Was all I could get out before I turned to look at the raven-haired barista who either had a rare eye condition that caused her to shoot fire at anyone she laid eyes upon, or she hated me right now. I was going with the
latter, so I turned my gaze to the line of customers who had their phones turned up to face me as they filmed what had been occurring. Including Albert.

Great, not only am I mortified, but I will now be some viral Internet sensation known only
as, The Woman Chest Molester.

Now it was the kilter’s turn to tap his foot as he folded his thick, strong arms in front of himself in protection from the mad chest molester. He’ll probably tell tales to his future kids and grandkids of the crazy chest molester. “Be wary of her,” he’d say in a low warning with his dialect suddenly turning from American to
Scottish. After all, he was dressed as William Wallace.

As he crept down to their eye level, and as
the window panes would rattle from the storm that swirled outside his Scottish
castle, he would whisper, “For if wee girls and boys don’t do as they’re told, the wiry fingers of the deranged chest molester will grab hold!” The kids would cower, holding their blankets to their little faces; one girl would begin to
cry as he wrapped his powerful arms gently around her tiny frame in comfort.

He’d calm her as he broke out into an old Gaelic tune.

I start humming out loud the only Gaelic tune I know, which wasn’t really a Gaelic tune but it’s Scottish, so close enough.

The barista interrupted my musical display, “Is that ‘I Would Walk 500 Miles’?”

I frowned in shame at what I had become in these past few minutes.

“Blue eyes,” the kilted blond mumbled as he stared at me.

Review
Romcom at its finest! The Cake Love series is hot, funny, sweet and just a bit nerdy which makes it an awesome read overall!

Evaleen is a busy bee and blends in to the background and she’s perfectly good with that. She does her job and no one takes notice of her. Including her hot boss, CEO of the company she works for.

Edgar has a dream life: millionaire playboy who doesn’t wont for money or companionship. Except for the one that got away. When suddenly, there she is!

I love the laughs in this book! You’re reading and laughing because how can you not while reading it? Buckle up for some laughs while you read this one!

“My Image Of You is such a heartfelt, captivating story. The characters – Adam and Ally – have such deep love that you feel as you read and the story keeps you glued to your Kindle. I found myself reading into the wee hours. My Image of You is another addicting and wonderful story by Moreland.” – SL Scott, author of Savior

TBRreview

Adam and Ally’s story is everything! There’s laughter, loss, love, suspense and just a bit of everything for any reader!

I love me a injured man or woman falling in love with their nurse, physical therapist, doctor etc. Nightingale syndrome maybe. It’s one of my secret pleasure type of books and that’s exactly how this one started. Adam is a freelance and daring photojournalist who takes a risk and ends up in the hospital where Alex is his nurse.

And that’s ALL I’m saying. There’s SO much more to this story but I couldn’t just pick out something to review. You need to experience it for yourself.

This will be another re-read book for me when I need a wide range of emotions coursing through me.

5 Stars!

My blood pounds through my body, my heart beating so hard that I can feel the pressure not only against my ribs, but against the wall behind me. My lips are parted, my breath coming in shaky gasps.

He’s only inches away, so close I could reach out and touch that famous, gorgeous face. His eyes, as deep and blue as the summer sky, roam over me. He eases closer, moving slowly, his face reflecting a hunger that sends shivers through me.

Once again, my mind conjures the image of a hungry wolf. Only now I’m thinking that maybe getting eaten wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Besides, I’m here. Might as well enjoy it.

Then, of course, I remember exactly what it is.

Oh, God.

His fingertip brushes my forehead, and I almost jump out of my skin. I meet his eyes, see something that looks like irritation, and want to kick myself. I need to focus, dammit.

“You were somewhere else.” He speaks flatly, as if he’s working to keep all emotion out.

I shake my head, conjuring a lie. “I’m right here.” And then, because I’ve seen movies with call girls, I put my hand flat on his chest, trying to seem seductive. He’s wearing a gray T-shirt, and I can feel his heart beating beneath the planes of his muscled chest.

I read somewhere that he was getting in shape to play a superhero in an upcoming movie. And kudos to whoever’s orchestrating that transformation, because this guy is rock solid.

He’s still looking at me, and I fist my hand in the material of his shirt, needing an anchor against the storm of emotion I see playing out on his face. Desire. Hunger. Longing. Regret.

And pain. I see so much damn pain that I have to fight the urge to cup my palm against his cheek and tell him that whatever it is, it’s going to be okay.

Instead, I simply whisper, “Lyle?”

I’m not sure if it was the wrong thing or the right thing to say, but I know that it was unexpected. And before I can apologize or cover or say anything else at all, he is on me. One hand at my throat, the other hard on my breast. I’m pinned against the wall, helpless, as he claims my mouth again. Wildly. Brutally.

I try to think what I’m supposed to do—try to respond. But I’m trapped. I’m not Sugar. I’m not Laine. I’m not anyone. This isn’t about sex. It’s about pain and need and that storm of horrors I saw on his face. I might as well not even be here. And as his hand squeezes tight on my breast—as his mouth clashes so hard against mine that he draws blood—my only thought is that I shouldn’t have come at all. That this was stupid. Foolish. And that this night is going to leave me scarred.

I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to be what he wants. A warm body. An anonymous female.

But I can’t do it. I can’t do it at all.

All I can be is me. A woman desperate enough to have sex for money. A girl trying anything and everything to save her house. To protect her family’s memory.

I can be that girl.

But I can’t be nothing. I can’t be no one.

And as his hand tightens in my hair—as he kisses me violently—as his body presses hard against mine and I feel the steel of his erection—I know that I’ve made a terrible, horrible, awful mistake.

Stop!

TBRreview
EVERY time I went to read this, Charlie Puth was in my head. And if you say it’s not, well I’m a bit jealous.
Sierra has had it rough; we’re introduced to her just as she’s finding out her fiancee is dying. So immediately your heart goes out to her. She’s having a hard time accepting that the man she was going to be with forever, is gone. I can’t imagine what that is like for her.
Chase is back “home” because his father is dead. The black sheep son of a truck driver’s infidelity is home, thanks to his half brother. But he doesn’t feel like it’s home for him until he meets Sierra.
A sweet, heartbreaking and uplifting story and definitely one for a re-read!

 OF FLAME AND FATE Excerpt

Copyright © 2017 Cecy Robson

I’m shoved into a cold room where a band of bloodsucking fiends tear off my clothes. Their long nails graze my skin as their master watches, his cold gray eyes glinting with malice.

“Son of a bitch,” I say, smacking Edith Anne’s hand away when she cops a feel. “The demon’s in my leg, not my tit!”

There’s something you don’t say every day, but then that’s why humans are safe in the world and weird gals like me are stuck with demons burrowing under their skin.

“Just making sure,” Edith adds with a wink.

I’m ready to punch her in the face, except I’m too busy cringing at the thing crawling beneath the length of my shin, its spindly insectoid appendages stretching the skin as it curls up and over my knee cap.

“Get it out of me!” I screech, growing nauseous with each numbing tug it creates beneath the underlying tissue.

“We’re trying,” Agnes Concepcion snaps, like I’m somehow inconveniencing her by having an evil being claw its way through me.

Her tiny plaid skirt smacks against my hip as she shoves me into a massive glass and tile shower. Three other vamps, dressed like naughty Catholic schoolgirls (don’t get me started) follow us in, bottles of champagne tight in their grips.

“What the hell?” I ask, kicking as if I can somehow shake this thing loose, and certain the booze is to celebrate my grisly death.

Bottles of champagne open with a pop, the naughty Catholics pouring the bubbly over my breasts, back, and ass. This isn’t real. This is something out of a bad porno and somehow I’m the star.

But as the fluid reaches my thigh the lump with the creepy legs bounces, pulling at the muscle it’s crawling over, squirming to the left then right, trying find its way around the torrent of liquid they’re pelting me with.

“Don’t let it reach her heart,” Master Vampire Misha Aleksandr orders from the opposite side of the bathroom.

“What’s it going to do to my heart?” My head whips back and forth when none of the vamps answer. “It’s going eat my freaking heart isn’t it?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Agnes mutters, adjusting her tiny librarian glasses as she angles the bottle she’s holding.

“Okay . . .” I begin.

“It needs your heart to nest and lay its eggs,” she explains.

What?”

“But yeah, then the hatchlings will munch on your heart like raw steak,” Edith adds. She reels me around when additional vamps swoop in with cases of wine, drenching my chest with more alcohol.

She seems to be having fun. I’m mostly trying not to hurl and wondering how the hell this happens to me.

Agnes is more focused. She drips the wine just above the demon, forcing it back down my leg. “Quiesco,” she says, her tone as sharp and commanding. “Quiesco.”

My body shudders as the demon scurries downward. Its movement doesn’t hurt, surprising since I think it has pinchers, but the yanking motion is unnerving, like getting stitches while under anesthesia. My head flops forward and my vision starts to swim.

“I don’t feel good,” I mumble.

Agnes slaps me, the sting of the strike causing my eyes to whip open. “Don’t fall asleep.” She slaps me again when my eyelids flutter and close. “Taran, the poison the demon is spewing is numbing your skin and making you drowsy, if you succumb to it the alcohol won’t work and the demon will take you.”

Again, her palm whips across my face. “Stay awake so we can cut this thing out of you.”

I slap her back, knocking her glasses askew. “I’m awake, damn it.”

She smirks because she hits harder and maybe because she likes it, too. She returns to my leg when the vamp behind her hands her another bottle of champagne. “Quiesco,” she whispers against my leg, her breath hot against my cooling skin.

My head falls forward as I start to go under. This time, Edith smacks me.

“God damn it,” I hiss, my right arm quaking and threatening to release my flame.

“I was just taking my turn,” she replies defensively.

Her gaze locks on my arm. She eases away as a spark of blue and white escapes from my fingertips, giving me and my power ample space as the surrounding vamps shower me with alcohol.

“Master,” Agnes says, ignoring us as she concentrates on my thigh. “It’s settling. I need the knife.”

“The wolves are bringing it,” he replies.

“The wolves?” I ask. Okay. Now I’m wide awake.

They keep their relationship under wraps for fear of causing animosity in the family. Mitch questions his relationship with Allie, concerned the distraction will adversely affect his ability to successfully manage the club. Allie does not want her heart broken again.

I’ll be right out. Don’t get into trouble.” He pointed at me for added emphasis before strutting off to another room, leaving me all by my lonesome.

“Me? Never,” I said to myself with a giggle.

I took the opportunity to be nosy and strolled around the apartment, except for the room he went into because I’d almost bet it was his bedroom; therefore, restricted for my own benefit. At least for now.

I found a closed door and paused briefly in front of it. I debated whether to open it or not.

“What the hell?” I asked myself and went for it, pushing it open.

My gut instinct told me he had his own version of the Red Room of Pain, causing me to take a deep breath before flicking on the light, hesitantly peeking inside.

Holy crap, I couldn’t have been more wrong. A huge drum set rested in the middle of the insulated room. Posters of rock bands covered the walls, good bands too, classic Tom Petty, Phil Collins, and Aerosmith.

“I thought I told you not to get into trouble,” his deep voice somewhat reprimanded.

Shit! Shit! Shit!

I swung around, holding my hands up in surrender. “I swear I didn’t touch anything.”

He chuckled and entered the room. “Do you always walk around people’s apartments and open closed doors?”

He stopped in front of me, and my breath picked up speed. He had changed out of his suit, instead sporting gray joggers with an Abercrombie T-shirt. Gosh, he killed me. I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to turn my head away from him, the sight too powerful and glorious for the human eye.

“Not usually, but tonight the notion kind of grabbed me, and I went with it.” I moved away from him, studying the room with my eyes, not my hands.

“Are there any other kinds of notions you have going on in that mind of yours you want to go with?”

I turned to face him. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” I teased, placing my hands on my hips. “So Mitch Dorian plays the drums. That’s fucking hot.” The heat in my words matched my sentiments exactly, my eyes opening wide with desire.

“Really?” He took two steps in my direction. “Do you like drummers?”

“Let me think about it for a minute.” I scratched my head while taking in his drum kit. “Hmm, let me see; you sporting a tank top with those big guns of yours slamming the shit out of these drums? Nah, not interested.” I waved him off with a look of disinterest, my superb acting skills on full display.

“That’s too bad.” He took another two steps my way. “You’d be impressed by what I can do with those sticks.”

I nodded in interest, trying not to reveal too much excitement, when impressed by him and what he could do with those sticks put it mildly. “Perhaps you could show me sometime.”

“Anytime, babe, as long as you promise to dance while I play. You didn’t tell me you were a regular on Dancing with the Stars.”

Aw, he had gone and made me blush. “And you conveniently left out the part about you being a rock god.”

Two small steps forward and now he stood within touching distance, our eyes fixed on one another the entire time.

“Tell me to stop and I will, Allie. All you have to do is say the word.”

I had no coherent thought. There were only three things filling up the space inside my brain—me, him, and him being naked.

“The word,” I mumbled, too dazed and blown away to ask the specifics about the word in question.

“You’re quite the comedian.”

And with that, his lips were on mine.

I always figured Mitch to be the type to come in aggressively, but instead, he came in slow and deliberate, the kiss soft and sweet. I had to remind myself to breathe.

His tongue eased its way inside my mouth without a tinge of hesitation. I certainly wasn’t going to argue.

Yummy, he had the Whole Mouth Clean Listerine taste going on too. Cheater. So unfair.

I reached my hands up, my fingers running through his dirty-blond, wavy hair. And what hair he had! Like hair from an old Pert commercial, whereas in my version it had Mitch pumping in and out of me instead of him jumping up and down on a trampoline with his sexy bouncin’ and behavin’ hair. He could be a walking billboard for commercial products.

I moaned into his mouth, lost in his touch and in my thoughts about him.

He one-upped my gesture by snaking his arms around my back, lowering his hands down to my ass, cupping it so they could get personally acquainted.

Fuck. I hadn’t been touched by a man in months. My body literally begged for more, even though my mind told me to stop. Besides, in all the time Jonathan and I were together, he had never once touched me with the kind of craving and raw passion Mitch possessed. Our kiss was one of longing, almost as if Mitch was the Jack to my Rose, both of us alone with only the great expanse of blue sea out in front of us and warm, salty air filling our lungs.

I moaned again. Where was Celine Dion when I so desperately needed her? That would’ve been the icing on the cake to the fantasy playing in my mind.

I felt a sudden sensation of weightlessness in my head and body, almost dizzying. This man had me delirious, almost disoriented. No man had ever caused such an overwhelming reaction from a simple kiss. My body broke out into a cold sweat.

I pulled myself away from him in a panic, breaking the connection between our tongues. “Oh my God! I think I’m going to be sick! Where’s the bathroom?”
