I swirl the amber liquid in my mouth, trying to erase the taste of Eve on my tongue. Her eyes bore into mine, and I know she feels how I feel. There is an undeniable pull between us, like an invisible string being tugged back and forth. Why the hell did she let me kiss her?
Now that I have tasted her lips, I fear it’s going to consume me, and it’s too late to turn back. Too late to forget.
“I think I am going to bed,” she announces as she finishes her second drink, and I remain silent. I just nod because my thoughts remain clouded, and I wonder if I can trust my own judgement. We barely know each other, yet I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone. She claws at something inside me.
Heading upstairs to my room, I pace the floor, and a light flickers on. Peeking out of my room, it’s the room Eve is painting in. I imagine her creative juices are flowing, so I vow not to interrupt her.
Lying in my bed, the thought of her beneath me, owning her, consumes me. I’m wired and wide awake, my heart stammers just thinking about what it would be like to be with her. I toss and turn for an hour before I get out of bed, and I notice the painting room light still flickers.
I pull on a pair of jeans. Barefoot, I stand outside the room, taking in deep breaths. Entering the room, Eve’s attention immediately turns to me.
“Mister. Tanner.”
“Take those overalls off and crawl to me.”
Locking her eyes with mine, she doesn’t hesitate for a second. Eve wears black biker shorts and a white crop top underneath her overalls.
On her knees, she begins to crawl, the paper covering the floor crinkles underneath her. The only light on is in the far right of the room. But my eyes stay glued to hers, and my heart begins to race.
Reaching me, Eve kneels up to unbutton my jeans. My hand catches her wrist, and she freezes. “What are you doing?”
“I thought…”
With a nudge, I guide her up and push her toward the wall, her back to my front, and I hold her hands behind her back. “You have to ask permission to touch me.” My breath skates over her neck in a whisper.
“Can I touch you, please?”
