With Haven on an extended honeymoon with Sammy, bad guys around the world are breathing a lot easier. No one is better at permanently removing these lowlifes who target children—and the brutal murder of two teenage girls makes clear it’s past time to return to work. Haven’s first assignment back results in a new family member and a renewed sense of urgency to protect and avenge the innocent.

There is nothing ‘usual’ about the business of hunting predators, but when several of Haven’s fellow agents are killed, a pattern emerges. The hunters have become the prey, tools in a bitter vendetta for a perceived wrong.

Despite years of working alone, when the target shifts to someone unexpected, Haven calls in reinforcements—a friend to stand between the family he loves and a ruthless killer. Teamwork may be the only way to win this fight—unless it’s already too little, too late.

Haven tries to approach this as he would any other assignment. Find your enemy and make sure they suffer before you eliminate them. But when a member of his team goes off-book and ends up dead, everything changes. It’s no longer a battle.

Now it’s war.

PROLOGUE

He glanced up at the evening sky. A haze enveloped the quarter moon, giving everything an ethereal glow. Though the night would be considered sultry, it lent itself to romance, walking hand in hand with someone you cared for, sharing whispered words, promises that might last an evening or be the foundation for a lifetime commitment. These people had no idea how quickly something like love could be ripped away, how those things said to one another would be worth less than the air you spent on saying them.

He shook his head. Now he needed to focus, not lose himself in memories of what might have been if things had been different. God, how he wished things could have been different.

The street could only be described as quaint. Small houses, each nearly identical to the next, but with a few tweaks that marked them as individual. The place he focused on had a small flowerbed, bursting with a variety of a flower he knew, but couldn’t recall the name. Tulips, maybe?

The slate gray siding, the maroon shutters on the windows, and the solar-powered pathway to the door that lit up in beautiful colors at night. The overall effect could only be described as charming. A lot of love went into making the house something special. It reminded him of what he’d lost.

He’d taken refuge in a house across from the home for six days, getting the lay of the land, taking note of the occupants’ arrival and departure schedule. Then every night, he drifted off, thinking about the place. It had been a dream of theirs, to own a little farm of their own, where no one would send them off to the corners of the world to handle problems. And for one very brief instant, they’d achieved it. But that dream had died in more ways than one. One day it was there, the next it was gone, as ephemeral as if it had never existed.

He tugged the collar of his black jacket and wished for a cool breeze. The earlier rain had sent the humidity soaring, and sweat was building up under his bulletproof vest, matting the sparse hairs. What he wouldn’t give for a tall glass of iced tea about now. He tried again, lifting the bottom of the vest up, hoping to let a little air in to cool him down, but nothing helped. He glanced at his watch. He’d need to make his move tonight. No way could he stand to be in this place any longer. The memories and wistful dreams alone threatened to drown him, but this heat had him sweating to the point where even he could smell himself. When he grabbed a coffee at the convenience store down the street while his target was out, the man behind the counter had a hand on the phone. Probably thought he was a vagrant. He sure as hell looked like one. He hadn’t showered in days, and his dark blond hair felt greasy to the touch. The beard he’d grown over the last year hadn’t seen a razor either. He looked like shit.

When he heard the hum of an engine on the quiet street, he crouched down. Though his patience had long ago come to an end, he needed to see this through. He would wait as he’d been trained, even if every fiber of his being rebelled against the idea. Still, he was an assassin, and he had a job to do.

The woman—Sarah, according facts he’d assembled—slid from the driver’s seat, her blond hair pulled back into a ponytail. She laughed at something the other occupant shouted, then opened the rear door of the van. It took several minutes for her to get set, then she stepped away as a ramp slid down to allow the man in the back to wheel out and be lowered to the ground. She bent over and kissed him, then walked to the passenger side where she took a baby from the car seat. She held the child up, and then blew a raspberry on his belly, which caused the kid to laugh and wiggle. Regret tore through him. He wished there could be another way, but two months ago he’d approached the man—Daniel Tollifson—there had been angry words exchanged, as well as the threat of police involvement. He couldn’t allow that, because there would be no one else to take down his ultimate target.

He forced himself to focus on the here and now. He needed to remain detached. Better to not let facts like these intrude on his mission—a few weeks ago, he’d gone to Daniel, begging for information. He’d been rebuffed. That wouldn’t be the case today.

If the man wouldn’t help him when he asked, then he’d have to find another way to get his message across. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a photo of a man whose smile had never wavered. Terry had been his whole world, and then had been ripped away from him in a matter of moments. All he wanted had been the name of the person responsible. Why couldn’t Daniel see he wasn’t asking for much? How would he feel if it had been his wife? Or his child?

Daniel disengaged himself from the ramp, and Sarah started to come around to the other side. It had to be now.

He’d run out of tears a lifetime ago, but again he wished he had another alternative. He didn’t. He raised the rifle and peered through the sights. The woman and baby had gotten too near the man, and he refused to hurt the innocent. Not like Terry had been. He lowered his weapon.

He waited while the two were engaged in conversation. She touched her husband’s face, then bent down to blow a raspberry on his cheek, which had them both laughing. She held out the baby to him and gestured to the chair. He frowned, shook his head, and waved her off. She laughed and stuck out her tongue, dodging the swat he attempted to lay on her ass, then strode to the house, singing something loud and only slightly off-key. Her husband yelled something about the neighbors, and she merely laughed. He could see the obvious love the two of them shared, and that made what he had to do even more difficult.

Regret tore through him. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, no longer sure who the sympathy was for.

She opened the front door, and her husband began to roll toward the house. Now would be his chance. Despite his misgivings, he had to take it. He again raised the rifle, closed one eye, and locked in on his target. The wheelchair stopped at the curb, and the man tried unsuccessfully to move it. He called out to Sarah, an edge of frustration in his voice. She laughed and took eight steps toward him when the trigger of the M24 he held in slightly trembling hands depressed, and a loud bang split the quiet suburban street. Less than a second passed before Daniel’s head exploded, blood and other materials spattering his wife and child. For a moment, she stood there, eyes wide. She gripped the baby close to her chest, and then screamed.

Before the echo died away, he had already scurried off into the night.

It wasn’t a perfect shot. He could hear Terry cursing at him, making him do it again and again until he got it right. But Terry had died, and though two years had passed, he would finally be avenged.

Daniel Tollifson had been the first, but there was no doubt he wouldn’t be the last. Though he didn’t want to kill anyone, there had to be a penalty for those who refused to help him get justice for Terry. He needed to track down and eliminate the person who’d been responsible.

No matter who had to die in the process.

Release Date: June 12, 2017

Abby Scofield’s love life has been all sorts of wrong.

So when lacrosse star, Brandon Kessler, comes along with his all-American good looks, easy disposition and magnetic charm, things seem to be looking up. Even if they come from two totally different worlds.

Xander Novak is the gorgeous, volatile and often times mean best friend of Abby’s twin brother, Aubrey. Her relationship with him is strained at best. But when Xander moves in unexpectedly, things seem to shift between them. But in what direction?

One night of deception, lies, and heartbreak are a common link the three share. When the truth about that night comes out, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Will Abby be able to find the love she’s been searching for or will everything in her world fall apart?

Warning: Strong language and moderate sexual content.

I find my way back into the bar and am immediately accosted by Aubrey, who is flanked by a seething Xander.
“What the fuck, Abby? Tell me you tossed that piece of shit to the curb,” Aubrey fumes, grabbing my arm and looking me over like he’s expecting to see signs of abuse.
“Can we just go back in and stop this? I don’t want to talk about it anymore. It’s your birthday,” I say, looking at Xander.
“I need to talk to you,” he says with a tone I don’t exactly appreciate. It’s authoritative and a bit belligerent, and it rubs me the wrong way. Like all of this is my fault.
“I don’t want to rehash it.”
“Humor me. It’s my birthday.” He tosses his coat over my shoulders, before spinning me around and directing me back to the door.
“I’m going to stay inside because it’s cold out and I don’t really feel like listening to the two of you fight,” Aubrey says with his hands up, palms facing out as he slowly back away from us.
“Coward,” I mutter, and both he and Xander laugh, which should set me at ease, but it doesn’t.
I’m led back out into the frigid night and I wrap Xander’s big, heavy coat around my body. It’s warm, despite the fact that he hasn’t worn it since we got to the bar and it smells so good I want to bury my nose in the collar and inhale.
I don’t.
That would be weird and embarrassing.
Xander is a pacing a heavy-footed circle and I can’t stop the laugh that flies out of my mouth. “What? You’re laughing at me?” He’s smirking, so I know he’s not all that pissed.
“I am. Why are you storming around? Out with it, Xander. I’m freezing my boobs off.”
His eyes dip down to my covered chest before coming back up to my face. “Your boobs?”
“Amongst other things. What’s up?”
“Did you break up with him?”
“No.”
“No? Why the hell not? He pushed Brian down and then squeezed you. Are you waiting for him to hit you?”
I sigh. “You’re being overly dramatic. He didn’t mean to hurt me and . . . well, yeah, he meant to push Brian, but I think he feels bad about that. I don’t know. I’ll talk to him tomorrow once he’s sobered up.”
“Jesus, shit,” Xander snaps, walking up to me and grabbing me by the biceps. “I can’t handle this, Abby. I can’t. I wanted to fucking kill him when he had his hands on you like that. You have no idea the restraint it took.”
I stare at him with wide, unblinking eyes. I’ve never seen this sort of passion from Xander. Ever. I know some of his history. Why he spends all of his vacations and holidays with our family or Gavin’s. I know some, but definitely not all.
“He’s not good for you,” he whispers, some of his anger dissipating the longer he stares into me.
I swallow hard, feeling the heat of his eyes bearing down on me. I want to squirm. I want to look away or move or laugh or do something that will ebb the thick tension. But I can’t do anything other than look at him.
“He’s not.”
“It was one time. He didn’t even realize he was hurting me. He wouldn’t do that.” I don’t know why I’m saying this to him. I don’t know why I’m suddenly defending Brandon other than I don’t really know what else to say. All of the real things I want to say, the words that are exploding around my mind like a series of grenades going off, I’m not brave enough to utter.
“Is he what you want?”
Xander has asked me this before. Right after I told him that Brandon and I were official.
“As opposed to what?”
Xander closes the small distance between us, hovering over me like a dark knight.
His hands are still firmly affixed to my upper arms as he dips his head closer to mine. Our breaths fog between us, mingling in the cool air. He doesn’t respond. He just stares at me with pleading eyes, begging for something he refuses to ask for.
“Abby,” he whispers softly, sweetly, like my name evokes something warm from within him. “I want—”
“Are you two coming back in?” Aubrey’s voice interrupts whatever Xander was about to say and right now, right this very second, I want to kill my brother. Was he about to say the words I’ve wanted to hear for years? Was he about to say that he wants me to end it with Brandon? Was he about to say he wants to go back inside the bar and never speak to me again?
I have no idea.
And judging by the way Xander jumps a foot back from me like Aubrey just zapped him with a thousand volts of electricity, I never will.
“You want what?” I press.
“I want—”
“Are you coming?”
“Yes. We’re coming,” Xander snaps out before his eyes refocus on mine. “I want . . . to do a shot with you for my birthday.”
Goddammit, Xander!
I can only sigh, and sag with defeat. We’ve played this game before. We’ve danced to this tune for most of our freshman year and it turned into him hating me for the last two. So I’m done trying to read between the lines that are so tightly pressed together, there’s no room for interpretation.
I can only take him at face value.

And while we may have a truce going, I have a sinking suspicion it won’t last much longer.

Release Tour ~ Misfit ~ by ~ Alyne Roberts

Title: Misfit
Author: Alyne Roberts
Genre: New Adult/Romantic Suspense
Release Date: May 8, 2017
Misfit. Outcast. September Evans was used to being an outsider after being bounced around foster homes. No one seemed to resent her more than her new foster brother, Keaton Grayson. He hated the new girl intruding on his life.

Until he didn’t. Fights became foreplay and anger became lust. The line between their love/hate relationship started to blur until it disappeared completely and ended in heartbreak.

Getting close to Keaton was September’s biggest mistake. One that comes back to haunt her four years later, when the stakes are higher than ever. The two are going to have to work together on something dangerous and wrong but done for the right reasons. The chemistry and attraction are still there, buried under resentment and blame.

Keaton still wants September gone, or maybe he just wants her. September can’t forget her past with Keaton, but she can’t let him ruin her future either.

Erasing that line between love and hate again could destroy them both.

“This book! Is Alyne’s best book hands down!”

“I can’t get enough of her story!!! I want more!”

ÓAlyne Roberts
When September quietly slips away and up the stairs, I follow. Alexandra is setting the table while my mom finishes up dinner, so no one notices when we both disappear. I find her in her old bedroom. It looks the same as the day she left. My family never fostered another after her.
“Never took you as the sentimental type.” She tenses at my voice.
“Never took you for the bitter type.”
“You think I’m bitter?” I laugh. “No. I would have to care to be bitter.”
September turns to face me, her hands balled into fists. A smirk spreads on my face as she stomps toward me, fire in her eyes.
“You don’t care?” she hisses. “You hold an awful lot of resentment for someone that never cared.”
Snap. My control breaks. My hands grip her waist as I push her back against her old closet door. Her body makes a soft thud as she hits.
“You wanna know what I cared about? I cared about getting into your pants. All I cared about was fucking you before you finally left. You think you broke my heart?”
She doesn’t answer but her face grows a deeper shade of red. Anger or embarrassment, I’m not sure.
“No. I don’t hate you because you left and broke my heart. I got what I wanted from you.” My eyes make a slow trail down her body. “I hate you because you came back.”
Her body trembles against mine as we stare each other down. Each one of us hard and furious. Heat curls around us.
“Get off me, Keaton.”
I press harder against her. She’s pinned against the wall, and I can feel her heartbeat on my chest where we touch.
“Why? Bring back memories?” I hiss. “Isn’t this where you begged me to touch you? I think it was just like this, with my hands down your pants, when you begged me not to stop until you came all over my fingers.”
Unlike that night four years ago, September is angry and has learned how to punch since then. Her fist collides with my jaw, and I stumble back. Before I can reach up to rub my sore face, she pushes me again until I hit the opposite wall.
“Touch me again and you’ll wish you never met me,” she growls at me.
“I already wish that.”
She’s seething. Furious and beautiful with her rage.
“Don’t worry. I’m doing this job and disappearing. You won’t see me ever again after we finish this.”
I don’t blame her when she walks away and ignores me for the rest of the night. If anyone notices the bruise on my face, they don’t comment. I deserved her fist and probably more. I was a dick to her, like I usually was. This time I said things I didn’t mean just to hurt her. I’m not sure if I can take them back. I’m not even sure I should.

“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” – Murphy’s Law

Expectation

Aiden
I’m a doctor. Not just any doctor. I’m an OB/GYN, so I know my way around the female anatomy. It goes without saying, I’m pretty comfortable around women. That is, until one particular bespectacled beauty makes me incredibly uncomfortable. And suddenly, I’ve got no clue whatsoever what to do about this particular woman.

Gray
I did it. I had a one night stand and now all the warnings my momma gave me are coming true. I’m pregnant and he’s not really into relationships, let alone the instant family kind. So, I’m going it alone in Ireland, a country I’ve only just moved to, and ready to be a single mother, until my search for a doctor leads me right back to him.

Chapter 1

Gray

The energetic crowd was pulsing around me as yet another drink was shoved into my hand by my best friend, Keeva. Not for the first time tonight I wondered how the hell I had ended up in Temple Bar. The atmosphere here was as far removed from my safe and cozy existence as could possibly be. In a rare moment of weakness, I had agreed to drink away my loneliness amongst a few hundred of my closest friends.

“Here ya go, girl. Driiiink up!”

“Ugh, I don’t know if I can, Keeva. I’ve totally lost count of how many I’ve had and that isn’t good. Not at all. This drink is gonna push me into sloppy, and I’m kind of comfy here in happy Gray land.”

She ignored me as usual and wrapped an arm around me pulling me in close. “Did I ever tell you how much I love you? When I moved to Dublin, I never in a million years thought I would have my best friend move here too! God, isn’t Dublin the best?” I was pretty sure this was a rhetorical question, but nonetheless, opened my mouth to shout her an answer, surely to be lost among the catchy Irish music enticing the tourists in from the cool evening to blow their Euros on the promise of finding a piece of Ireland in every sip.

“I- “

She abruptly threw a hand over my mouth. “Oh My God! What is my stupid brother doing here?” She lurched off me in hot pursuit of said brother. I followed her, trying desperately to keep up with my tiny, sprite of a friend. Where she was what people described as “pixie like,” the same people would describe me as having Kardashian curves. Well, before Khloe got her revenge body anyway. I was of average height and curvy and had a tendency to bump into people in a crowd, whereas Keeva Murphy was so little, she could easily slip in and out of those same crowds.

I kept tabs on her short black hair, her head angrily popping up as it stalked towards her brother, who I couldn’t see. She had a few brothers and from what I knew, they all kinda looked the same. Tall, dark haired Irish goodness. They had all recently moved back to here so I wasn’t sure which one had the audacity to show up here in this free country where people could go where they wanted, when they wanted.

I made the tactical mistake of stopping and trying to squeeze through a particularly tightly packed group of college students, and by the time I exited on the other side, having been grabbed extensively, I had completely lost sight of her.

I spun in half circles trying in vain to find her and not topple over, but it was hopeless. It seemed the crowd was actually growing and thanks to that last drink, my ability to care to find her was slowly waning. I decided to make my way over to the bar and squeeze in for a lean and look around. I elbowed my way in between two guys who didn’t seem to be there together and stood sideways against the bar cursing my lack of height and flat shoe obsession, slammed down my empty and glass and ordered a nice, safe pint of beer.

I felt someone push up against my back and did my best to ignore it. A deep, American accented voice whispered behind my ear. “Buy you a drink?”

I didn’t bother to attempt to turn and give the guy an answer, just yelled over my shoulder. “Original.” I held up my hand without looking to show him I already had a full glass.

“You’re American.”

“Another testament to his brilliance. Yes, I’m American.”

“And also not like the other girls in here. Smart, sexy and a viper. I think I’m in love.”

I finally decided to give the poor guy a break and turned around and nearly embarrassed myself on the spot. I think my panties were insta soaked and my mouth could have caught more than flies it was hanging so far open.

Standing in front of me was a six foot three glimpse into heaven. Being height disadvantaged, I had a thing for guessing someone’s height. I seriously missed my carnie calling. He had broad shoulders, dark, curly hair and was dressed casually in slim fit jeans, a relaxed dress shirt and a sexy pair of Blundstone boots. His jaw held just enough stubble for me to imagine the feel of it, roughly scraping against my inner thigh.

I quickly put the brakes on. No one had ever gotten their face near said inner thigh. I was a charter member of the “No Thigh Gap” club. I didn’t even know why this man would even consider someone like me. He was the type of guy that I bet went for the sophisticated, gorgeous, tall and thin woman. Not the average, curvy, glasses wearing librarian.

“See something you like, sweetheart?”

I added cocky to the rundown of his attributes. “Riiight. Well, you got me to turn around, and now that you’ve opened your mouth once again, you’ve gotten me to leave.”

He smiled and I reconsidered my departure. He quite simply had a glorious smile. It enhanced his already hot as hell face. Made him seem charming, instead of cocky. Approachable instead of out of my league.

I froze, unsure of where to go next. “I thought you were leaving?” He raised an eyebrow and tilted his head to the side.

I stood a little taller and gave myself some credit. I was a librarian for goodness sakes. This goon here in front of me probably wouldn’t know a book if it hit him in the face and fell open. He had moronic playboy written all over him.

I felt a small something warming in my stomach as his clear blue eyes caught mine and held. My mind quickly deviated to the last time my lady bits had seen any action and I decided I might need a time machine to go back that far.

It could have been the beer and whiskey combo, it could have been the pulsing Temple Bar pub, or it could have simply been me taking advantage of a fortuitous waxing session earlier in the week, (I really had no idea what I thought I was preparing for) but suddenly my body gave just the tiniest hint of a lean into this stranger. The lean was extended by my now perky nipples, who had gone out on a limb and decided they needed to get a closer look.

He slowly raised a hand and I swore he was moving in to sweep my bangs aside and offer me a kiss. I should have known better. Guys like him don’t kiss girls like me. His hand went straight for my nose, where he proceeded to use his index finger to slowly push up my glasses. Yes, I rounded out the librarian stereotype with a pair of black glasses. Well, at least my hair wasn’t up in its usual messy bun.

He slowly dragged his finger, could a finger actually be that sexy, until he had silenced me and I was close to going crosseyed trying to follow him. How was it this guy made a total geek move like pushing glasses up on my nose seem so freaking hot? I seriously needed to stop drinking and get my sorry ass home. Where in the hell was Keeva?

“I like your glasses.”

I raised a single eyebrow, not sure how to answer that. “Pardon?”

He completely ignored me and kept talking, meeting my lean and pushing even closer. “I’ve always had this dirty librarian fantasy and those very glasses you’re wearing usually have the starring role.”

I was beginning to figure out why all of my girlfriend’s I.Q.s dropped when they went out to the bar. I wasn’t familiar with this feeling. I think it was called, turned on and couldn’t care less what he was sayingitis. Something about this guy was so alluring. It felt like an accident that you knew you shouldn’t stare at, but you just couldn’t help yourself. But it was the in the light of day I was afraid of. This guy was all that and slice of toast in the dark lighting of the pub, but what kind of substance would he have in the daylight?

“I’m a librarian.” It was official. I had the mental capacity of an eight-year-old again and simple sentences were my maximum vocabulary limit.

He smiled and it all became clear to me. I knew I was going to finish the night up wrapped around this guy no matter how hard straight laced Gray Fairfield tried to pull tipsy and sex starved Gray Fairfield back from the edge.

His smile turned into something I couldn’t describe. It was all heat and desire and sex. Lots and lots of sex.

“Jesus Christ. We need to get out of here.” In a flash, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his wake as he quickly, and forcefully navigated the writhing mass of people in various states of inebriation. I nearly stumbled a few times, but his responding and protective tug kept me moving forward.

He appeared to be headed for the exit, which kind of freaked me out. I didn’t do hookups. Not in my wheelhouse. I tried to put the brakes on, but it seemed he wasn’t having it.

“Hey! Hey!” I let my voice escalate so maybe someone would take notice of me being pulled out the door against my will. The lot of them could go to hell. No one paid any attention and a few were even cheering my mystery man on.

He carved a clear path through the mix of middle aged tourists and wasted partiers and pushed out the door, into the cool Dublin night. “Hey! I wasn’t ready to leave. I don’t even know your name.” No reply but he was slowing. Oh God. He was turning down a dark alleyway. This was it. I had only just moved here, I was too young to die. What was I thinking talking to a stranger? Bad Gray. Bad, bad Gray.

“Hey, I’m gonna scream. You can’t just hijack someone against their will, you know. It’s against- “

He turned down the alley and promptly pushed me up against the wall and held me there with his lean, hard body. “My name’s Aiden.” And then he kissed me.

After reading Avow, I was so glad that Aiden was getting his own story and was quite awkward at it. He was just way too cocky and confident while Ryan was trying to woo back his wife.

Back to Aiden’s story. So he had a one night stand in America. A few months later, in walks his one-night stand who is pregnant. Neither planned to see the other again but here they are thrust together while Gray is looking for an Obstetrician and here Aiden is a great one in Ireland.

I love the Murphys! I love the Ireland-ness of it all. I definitely would be interested in hearing some Irish brogues for an audio book 🙂

Juked: verb.

/jook-t/

A slang soccer term meaning: fake out, deceive, confuse your opponent

See examples Daniel Zavaro and Quincy Watson:

As the rising star in Houston, Daniel has found fame as Captain of his Pro soccer team and the city’s most eligible bachelor. Daniel has everything – except someone special – and that suits him just fine. He doesn’t want, or need, complications.

Quincy has baggage, and lots of it. After a tragic accident spins her world on its axis, she finds herself as a single mother, raising a newborn nephew she never knew she had. Between parenthood, her full-time job, and dealing with the suffocating grief of losing her sister, every day is a struggle.

When they begin to cross paths unexpectedly and often, an unlikely friendship starts to evolve. Feelings change. Lines get crossed. What happens next surprises them both…

Before they know it– they’ve been Juked.

“I really do recommend it if you’re in the mood for a good, witty sport-romance with great characters, a great storyline and a baby! Did I mention that the baby is the cutest thing ever?<3” – Goodreads Review

“4 out of 5 “I Might Just Start Watching Soccer” Blushes” – Goodreads Reviewer

“4.5 stars!! Quincy, you inspire me. Daniel, you grew on me. Chance, you stole my heart. This book was beautiful, and EVERYONE should read it.” – Goodreads Review

“I hope you don’t mind,” she says, changing subjects and breaking the tension. “Before you called, I was going to catch up on Outlander. I’m several episodes behind.”

“Fine with me,” I say. “I’m used to those soft-porn shows.”

“Soft-porn shows?”

“You know… Outlander, Game of Thrones, True Blood. Soft porn.”

She scoffs at me. “We’re watching Starz, Daniel, not pay-per-view.”

I lean back and put my feet up on the coffee table. “Baby, the only difference between Starz and porn is that actual porn doesn’t have a plot or as big a budget.”

She rolls her eyes. “Whatever. Soft porn,” she grumbles under her breath. She picks up the popcorn and puts it on the couch between us.

I snap up a handful and toss some in my mouth as the review of the last episode plays and the credits roll.

Adult language. Adult situations. Brief nudity.

That’s what the parental ratings warn us of. It is so, so wrong.

The first thing that pops up on the screen is a woman on a bed and a man is with her. With his head between her legs for a very long time. And now there’s nipples, lots and lots of nipples. And his head is still between her legs.

“Still trying to convince yourself it’s not high-budget porn?” I joke, trying to break the sexual tension that has sprung up again.

“Oh my god, this is so awkward,” she replies, eyes still on the screen. Her ears turn bright red, which is apparently her version of a blush. She looks so uncomfortable.

I sip my beer and munch popcorn, ignoring the woody in my pants from imagining that it’s Quincy and me on the screen. When all else fails, insert humor. “Man, he’s really going at it, isn’t he?”

“Would you shut up?” She laughs and smacks my arm. “This is weird enough without you making jokes.”

“Sorry. I’ll just sit here quietly while we watch the non-porn.” She rolls her eyes but smiles anyway.

I know nothing about soccer.  Wait, I take that back, I know only the goalie can use their hands.
Anywho, on to Juked.  Juked was a fantastic read with sad moments, hilarity, sweetness and love.  Daniel is Captain of his professional soccer team.  And is enjoying his life, playing soccer and enjoying the perks of being a professional athlete when he meets Quincy.
Quincy is having a horrible day when she meets Daniel.  Her sister that she loves dearly but was estranged from has died and left her as the guardian of an almost newborn baby boy.  Daniel comes along and is able to help her when she needs it the most.
Such a good read that makes you laugh and cry while you’re reading it.

“Mother, reader, storyteller – ME Carter never set out to write books. But when a friend practically forced a copy of Twilight into her hands, the love of the written word she had lost as a child was rekindled. With a story always rolling around in her head, it should come as no surprise that she finally started putting them on paper. She lives in Texas with her four children, Mary, Elizabeth, Carter and Bug, who sadly was born long after her pen name was created, and will probably need extensive therapy because of it.”

TBRreview
Filthy Bastard  is book 2 in the  Grim Bastards MC series.  You don’t have to read Dirty Bastard before but it’s a good idea to.  You find out more about the events that happen in the book and with each of the characters from their point of view.
Addy aka Red and Brew  are amazing.  They each have had one hell of a past and a family to go with it.  I think that’s what draws them to each other; their need for a good family, one that has their backs.
Red’s story is just heartbreaking and sad.  It infuriates me in what she had to deal with.  And how strong she came out of it.  She is definitely an inspirational character for living through what she did and coming out on top.  And that’s all I’m saying, if you want to know what happened, READ!
Can’t wait for the Smoke and Hack’s stories!  I love this unconventional but supremely caring family they’ve all made.
