FINAL SIEGE Excerpt

“Mac,” she whispered, and tried to stop the tears and the uncontrollable shaking of her body. She shrugged his hands off her shoulders, and scrambled to the other side of the bed. Even as he held his hand in the air, the universal sign of surrender, a part of her wanted to reach for him, to let him hold her the way he had when she’d sneak into his dorm room at night.

Her head spun in confusion as she pressed her fingertips to her temples. She couldn’t do this again, couldn’t grieve for him all over again. Not on top of everything else.

“Delaney, sweetheart. You’re safe.” Those eyes of his that always reminded her of the dark blue ocean at sunset reassured her she was. She’d dreamt of them. Missed them.

God, the anger she felt toward him now was only a fraction of the love she’d felt for him all that time ago. Until he’d killed her brother when they were both twenty years old.

I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada were I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Pre-Order Blitz ~ A Tempest of Discovery ~ by ~ Sarah M. Cradit

Title: A Tempest of Discovery
Series: Midnight Dynasty #1
Author: Sarah M. Cradit
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: January 22, 2018

The Deschanels are back, in this first installment of the new paranormal romance series, Midnight Dynasty…

Nicolas Deschanel spent thirty-two years holding court as the princeling of New Orleans and heir to his family’s dynasty, with no obligations beyond his own pleasures. Following a storm of events, his rock bottom leads him back to his family, where he finds redemption in contrite service. Paired with the pragmatic Lauren—who is deeply skeptical of his reformation—the two spend their days in seclusion, cultivating the lofty research goals of the Deschanel Magi Collective.

Charlotte Fontenot is calculated and driven in her approach to her mission in Paris. With help from her cousin Julian, they follow Gabrielle and Lawrence Henry, siblings whose unusual behavior has caught the attention of witches in Paris. The cousins quickly realize neither sibling is what they seem, and Charlotte’s fearlessness leads her closer and closer to mysterious philanthropist Lawrence.

With Charlotte and Julian settled in Paris, Nicolas and Lauren shift their focus to a special, secret project: quietly and carefully investigating the women of the powerful LaViolette family, distant cousins of the Deschanels. This assignment quickly leads them down a dangerous path, one where turning back is no longer an option. Events in both New Orleans and Paris begin to spin wildly beyond the control of all involved, and when the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same.

“First, I need you to breathe.” Nicolas pulled Lauren from the floor and ushered her to the chair. She let him lead her around like a limp doll.
“I can’t! Oh God, I can’t, I can’t breathe.”
Nicolas knelt on the ground in front of her. He pulled her hands into his and pressed his thumbs into her palms. “Breathe, Lauren.”
She pulled and released a series of desperate gasps, eyes wilder than ever. He pushed harder into her palm. “Breathe,” he repeated. He struggled to believe what he was seeing. That anyone could reduce collected Lauren to this state was incredible.
Her gasps faded to short, jagged breaths. “This isn’t real. It’s not real. It’s not happening. It’s not real.”
“You know it’s real,” he said gently. “But I can help you.”
“How?” she asked again. Clipped, desperate gulps escaped from her parted mouth, like a child eager for succor.
“I’m going to teach you to block.”
“Block? Block what?”
“Him. Adrien. Everyone who isn’t you.”
She laughed. Snot bubbled from her nose and she buried her face in her sleeve. “I’m not like you. I’m not like any of you. I can’t do anything like that, and you know it.”
“Lauren.”
“What?”
“I need you to trust me.”
“Trust you?” she snorted.
Nicolas kept his voice even, calm. He sounded nothing like he felt inside, where a fiery rage boiled through his veins. Adrien LaViolette was a dead man. “Do you trust me?”
Lauren looked away.
“Lauren.”
“What?”
“Do you trust me?”
Tears poured down her cheeks. She looked at the window, at the escalating storm beyond the thick panes. She nodded.
Nicolas laced his fingers through hers and lifted their hands up like a gate between them, the way he did when he would help bring Anasofiya down from one of her panic attacks. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere. It’s only you, and it’s only me. Anyone else isn’t welcome, and we’re going to make them leave. Do you understand?”
“Why?”
“Why what, Lauren?”
“Why is he doing this? What does he want?”
“I don’t know,” Nicolas said. “And it doesn’t matter, because he isn’t getting it.” He squeezed her fingers. “Are you ready?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know if I can do this.”
“You are ready. You’re the bravest woman I know.”
“Me?”
“You.”
“I don’t want you to save me, Nicolas.”

“That’s good, because I’m not going to,” Nicolas said. “I’m going to show you how to save yourself.”
Sarah is the USA Today bestselling author of the Paranormal Southern Gothic series, The House of Crimson & Clover, born of her combined passion for New Orleans, and the mysterious complexity of human nature. Her work has been described as rich, emotive, and highly dimensional.

An unabashed geek, Sarah enjoys studying obscure subjects like the Plantagenet and Ptolemaic dynasties, and settling debates on provocative Tolkien topics such as why the Great Eagles are not Gandalf’s personal taxi service. She’s a self-professed expert at crafting original songs to sing to her very patient pets, and a seasoned professional at finding ways to humiliate herself (bonus points if it happens in public). NIKAN REBUILT Excerpt

Copyright © 2017 Scarlett Cole

“Why didn’t you tell anybody where you were?” It was the question that had always burned him. He knew that she didn’t have anybody else in the world who cared that she was okay as much as he did.

Jenny stopped suddenly and turned to face him. “Because I knew you would come and find me, and back then I knew I wasn’t strong enough to keep you away.”

Nik’s heart stopped in his throat. The pain in her voice cut him as deeply as any of his stab wounds had. Unable to help himself, he placed the palm of his hand on her cheek. Her face so looked so soft, so vulnerable and open. As much as he wanted to kiss her lips, he buried the urge. “I’m sorry, Jenny. I can repeat that a thousand ways, and I can show you a thousand times over just how sorry I am. I just . . .” Just what? Threw it all out of the window in a reckless fit of hedonism?

Self-destruction.

He shut the voice off.

SELF-SABOTAGE.

This time it was even louder.

Jenny pulled away. “It’s probably best we leave all that alone. No point picking at a healed scab.”

“I don’t want to pick at a scab or have you hate me,” he said, sadly. “Or worse, I don’t want you to disappear on me again. I just want to get to know you, Jenny.”

“For what purpose, Nik?” Her eyes filled with tears, and he could feel the pain she was in. It mirrored his own. The pain that drove him to keep holding his makeshift family together so that life had some kind of meaning.

All out of words, he did the only thing he’d ever relied on for comfort. He pulled her into his arms and pressed his lips to hers, lips he’d used to watch as she sung, lips he could visualize around his cock as she’d given him her first-ever blow job, lips that he’d missed. They were soft and sweet, just like Jenny. Her fingers slid into his hair, her nails trailing along his scalp in a way that never failed to make him shiver. She remembered this. Their bodies remembered the way they were together. So did his dick, which was pressed up against her.

He knew it was over the moment her hands slid their way to his chest, and his heart broke all over again as she pushed him away.

“See, this is why I can’t be around you, Nik,” she cried. “It’s impossible to resist you. And we don’t belong together anymore.”

Nik shook his head. “Don’t do this, Jenny. We deserve a second chance to see what we’ve got. We are perfect together.”

“Were, Nik. We were perfect together. Don’t you see? It’s all past tense.” Jenny turned and hurried down the street.

“Jenny. Wait.” He jogged to catch up with her. “There was nothing past tense about that kiss, or the way you turn me on as much as you always did. There is nothing past tense about the way the sun catches your hair and turns it the color of a cornfield in fall. And I know you hate star references but there is nothing past tense about the way your fucking eyes light up your face like the Big Dipper, lights up the night-fucking-sky” he said. “I don’t want what we were to be the sum total of everything we ever add up to.”

Undercover Attraction Excerpt

“Let’s get one thing clear—”

One thing? I have a goddamn list.”

He bracketed her throat, putting just enough pressure there to stop her words. “Did you change your mind?”

She narrowed her eyes but didn’t try to pretend she had no idea what he was talking about. “You play your game your way. I’ll play it mine.”

Disobedient and willful to the very end. He couldn’t decide if she was trying to provoke a response or if she was just that opposed to being locked down in any way. In the end, it didn’t matter. “I should bend you over this counter and fuck you into submission.”

“Don’t think for a second it would work.” Charlie rolled her eyes. “And beyond that, we’re already going to be late, so unless you’re looking for a quickie, fucking me in any way is out of the question.”

The irrational side of him, which always seemed to come into play around her, rose to demand he throw caution to the wind and prove her wrong. He reined it in, but only barely. Every time she pushed him, intentionally or not, he slid a little closer to the edge. It was only a matter of time before he went over—and took her with him.

Aiden let go of her and stepped back. He didn’t like the confusion on her face—or the flicker of hurt that rose as he moved to the dresser across the room. For all her spikes, there was something fragile about Charlie, and he’d have to be a special kind of bastard to want to shatter her, no matter who her father was.

He opened the drawer at the bottom that had been empty until a week ago. “Take off your panties.”

“I’m sorry, what?”

He gave her a look. “You heard me.”

“I’m waiting for you to explain.”

Aiden shook his head slowly. “There aren’t two separate games—there’s only my game. Either play along or deal with the consequences.” He picked an item out of the drawer and held it up. “Here’s your first punishment.”

“I didn’t do anything wrong.” But her eyes lit with interest at the small blue vibe in his hand.

He motioned her forward, giving her plenty of time to tell him to go to hell.

But she didn’t.

Charlie moved to stand directly in front of him. He lifted her dress to the tops of her thighs, bunching the shimmering fabric. “Hold this,” he ordered.

“You are aggravating in the extreme.”

“So I’ve been told.” He pulled her panties down to her thighs. It was tempting to kiss her there, but he forced himself to stay on task. Aiden held the small vibe against her clit as he shifted the lace back into place. It took a few seconds to maneuver it to exactly where he wanted, but then he sat back on his heels. “You can let go now.”

“This is an important night, Aiden.” She shifted, a frown on her face. “We don’t have time for your sex games to distract me.”

He pulled out his phone and brought up the app he’d downloaded when he bought the sex toy. A flick of his finger and her entire body tensed. Aiden didn’t bother to hide his satisfied smile. It fell away when he touched his pocket and the little box it held. “One more thing.”

“I swear to God, I draw the line at anal plugs, so don’t even think about it.”

That surprised a laugh out of him. What surprised him even more was how good it felt. When was the last time he’d laughed freely in a way that wasn’t calculated?

Aiden couldn’t remember.

He stood and pulled out the ring box. “I’d go down on one knee, but that isn’t the kind of relationship we have.”

“No, it’s not.” She looked a little sick, but she held out her hand so he could slide the ring onto it. “Aiden, it’s beautiful.”

“It was my grandmother’s.” It had taken some shady work to figure out Charlie’s ring size after he’d first met her, so that he could get the ring resized. He hadn’t told anyone about it. Though he’d been as sure of her as he could be of a near-stranger, he hadn’t wanted to admit the lengths he’d gone through, in case things didn’t pan out.

If anything, she looked even more horrified. “I can’t wear your grandmother’s ring. It’s not right.”

“You have to. As oldest son and heir, that ring rightfully belongs to my future wife. It would be more than a little suspicious if I didn’t give it to you.”

She touched the massive diamond. It was in the same setting as when his grandfather had proposed, little rubies and garnets surrounding the diamond, to represent colors in the O’Malley crest.

It felt a whole lot like he’d just branded Charlie.

It didn’t bother him nearly as much as it should.

“Robert (Forbidden Promises) combines strong chemistry, snappy plotting, and imperfect yet appealing characters in her fifth O’Malley contemporary.”—Publishers Weekly on UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION

“Imagine the erotic sensibility of Red Shoe Diaries expertly fused with the ruthless power struggles that fueled The Sopranos and you have some idea of the flavor of Robert’s RITA–nominated O’Malleys series. In Too Deep Excerpt

Copyright © 2017 Kimberly Kincaid

Shae moved her gaze over their surroundings in a methodical sweep, the eyes she’d squinted against the glare of the late-morning sunlight going round and wide as they landed on Quinn. “So,” she said, dropping her voice but not the ear-to-ear smile that told Luke nothing good was going to come from their now-private conversation. “About Quinn.”

“What about her?” Luke stared holes in the pick-off strap he’d pre-rigged before the drill, willing his fingers to steadily fasten the stupid thing to the main attachment point on Shae’s harness. Rope rescue. Safe transfer. Focus.

“You two have been spending some time together lately, huh?”

His stomach knotted before dropping toward his hips. “Quinn has been helping with my paramedic training,” he said, selecting his words with care. After a really hairy call had led the house to a gruesome arson/murder scene three months ago, Luke had been surprised to discover he had a fear of blood. But since he also wanted to help people as a first responder, he couldn’t let that fear—debilitating as it had been—stand in the way of him doing the job that would keep people safe.

So he’d done what he always did. He’d taken a step back to quietly attack the problem, devoting himself not only to the rest of his fire and rescue training, but to earning his certification as a paramedic at the same time. Yeah, the workload was intense, and no, balancing both didn’t leave him much time for luxuries outside of sleep or hot meals. He wasn’t exactly a stranger to balls-out hard work, though. In fact, he and hard work were more like what his seventeen-year-old sister Hayley would call “besties”. Not that Luke had any freaking clue what that might actually entail, since he never got past the handshake and Heisman stage with anyone.

That whole arm’s length thing? So not an overstatement.

At any rate, Luke had his sister and their grandmother, Momma Billie. He didn’t need a bunch of Lifetime Original moments to distract him from his goal. He’d attained his full qualifications as an EMT six weeks ago. Official paramedic status would be in his reach before the year was out, provided he could continue to keep his seemingly sudden-onset fear of blood at bay. He was well on his way to becoming a full-fledged firefighter, like he’d always wanted. Just as long as he could keep both his focus and his distance, he’d be fucking stellar.

Quinn looked up with a grin and a wave before heading back into the fire house, and Christ, did she really have to have a set of cutely sexy dimples he could see all the way from here?

“Helping you with your paramedic training,” Shae echoed, her quiet murmur tumbling him right back to the here and now of the side wall of the engine bay.

Luke concentrated on the equipment in his hands, the clink of the carabiners and the soft hiss of the nylon ropes as he continued with the rope transfer while he spoke. “Sure. She’s been giving me tips and tricks to remember different procedures, telling me the fastest ways to safely do workups. Stuff like that.”

“Ah.” Shae waited a beat while he clipped the backup carabiner for the line transfer into place. “You know, it wouldn’t be terrible if you liked her.”

“I do like her.” The words shoveled out of his mouth by default. He double-checked the carabiner. Adjusted the slack in his line. Mentally kicked himself square in the nuts. “She’s nice.”

Shae made a noise Momma Billie would have described as unladylike. “You know what I mean, Slater. Don’t be a dumbass.”

And that was the problem, right there. He was a dumbass. He didn’t just like Quinn in a casual friends, good co-workers, she’s-helping-me-with-my-training kind of way. Nope. He was attracted to her. From the minute he’d clapped eyes on Quinn on his very first day as a rookie, Luke had had this reckless desire to kiss her. To hook his fingers in that waterfall of blond waves spilling down her back, to part her lips with his tongue and taste her until he ran out of air.

And he didn’t want to stop at her mouth.

Pre-Order Blitz ~ Lunar Shadows ~ by ~ T.F. Walsh

Title: Lunar Shadows
Series: The Guardians Series Book 2
Author: TF Walsh
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: September 19, 2017

A powerful seer. A fight to stay alive. A soulmate to protect.

Zana believes she can stop death. After all, why else would she receive prophetic dreams? Now she just has to actually save someone. But nothing prepares her for the Lunar Festival’s events; a tragic death, her vile ex acting all cave-man on her, and the sudden appearance of Shadow, a hunky and arrogant Guardian from the kingdom. Except, she’s done with men after what her last one did to her. But when her latest vision shows Shadow’s demise, she is determined to prove her gift is a blessing not curse.

Shadow is visiting his uncle for a small vacation. When he stumbles across a murdered family member, eliminating the threat is a must. Bumping into Zana at the crime scene, a beautiful vixen, smart and stubborn, has him questioning her involvement. But when she declares he’s in danger and will protect him, he’s not sure if he should be flattered or insulted.
As they close in on the killer, Shadow starts to believe the real danger might be losing Zana and the grip she has on his heart. Will Zana and Shadow survive a danger beyond their imagination?

This is a standalone, steamy paranormal romance with a HEA.

Shadow’s hands shook as he clenched the goblin’s shoulders and pinned her to the wall. He glanced at the knife she’d dropped at his feet. Not a speck of blood stained the weapon. Or had she wiped it before he’d arrived? The girl didn’t behave like a killer. He’d encountered enough in his lifetime to recognize one. But why had she been crouching over Klurt with a blade? Evil did come in all guises.

“I’ll ask only one more time,” he demanded, his voice climbing. “Did you murder my uncle?”

Her eyes were watery pools, and the healed scratch from brow to cheek told him she’d seen her share of fights. When she spoke, she growled. “Get off me. I found him like this. I work at the markets.”

Shadow loosened his hold, and she pulled free, dropping to her feet. She reached his chin in height.

“Who are you?” he asked, blocking her way out of the office in case she bolted.

His gaze swept to his uncle. The goblin who had given him, an orphan, a roof as a child, fed him—had offered Shadow hope. The image in front of him undid him completely. Klurt had taken in every stray goblin, taught them respect and discipline, pushed them to get an education. Someone with a heart as huge as Klurt’s should have never met such a vile ending.

Numbness threaded through Shadow, though, in his mind, he shoved away the emotions, the pain, just as he’d been trained to do in the queen’s army. Feelings made him weak, and that moment was about him taking charge.

The female in front of him with amber locks leaned over and picked up her blade. He backed up in case she swung the weapon.

“See? It’s clean.” Her voice held more power than her small frame would suggest. “I was chasing the killer, but he escaped.”

Okay. She wasn’t going to attack, though it was no real surprise she had a knife. With no law existing in Tapestry, everyone did what he or she had to. Sivath, the goblin chief, had been setting up an enforcement group to aid goblins, but that was four years ago. Maybe things had changed since Shadow was home last.

“What’s your name?” he demanded.

“Zana.” She tucked the blade into her boot.

The girl had a strong, angular face with golden irises and ruby lips. No blood on her clothes. But a trail of crimson splattered across the vinyl flooring in front of Klurt. Shadow studied Zana’s boots. Pristine. Blood stained her cheek as if she’d wiped it with the back of her hand, yet her natural beauty intrigued him—urged him to lower his guard—which was ridiculous. If it weren’t for her long ears, she’d pass for a human, and he didn’t recall there being a half-blood in town when he was last in Pryvale.

“You’re a half-goblin,” he stated.

She ignored him and knelt near Klurt again. Her body curled forward, and the softness of her cries tightened his chest.

What the shit was going on? The macabre scene wasn’t sinking in, yet the metallic smell clawed at his nostrils. It wasn’t the homecoming he’d expected. Weeks ago, he’d sent Klurt a message saying he was visiting for a few days, and, ever since, he’d been picturing the embraces, the laughter, and the food. He still had Klurt’s house key, so he had left his gifts there, found the Wart Markets location pinned to the pantry door, and then came to see his uncle at his work. Now the plans to create new memories and see Klurt chuckle again were stolen.

It was Shadow’s mistake; he should have gone to the office first, but none of that mattered. Only tracking down the culprit and making them pay mattered.
