 TBRreview

Poor Finlay has lost her twin brother. She’s guilt-ridden over how she treated him prior to his unexpected death. She is lost in grief for 2 years until she picks herself up and tries to live her brother’s dream.
Caden is the all-American quarterback for the Alabama team. He’s good-looking, cocky and a gifted athlete. Finlay hates him on principle, or at least tries to. Caden is interested in Finlay and her sassy nature. And can’t walk away.
This was a great read and quite emotional. I was glued to the book from beginning to end. Definitely worth a re-read!

Blog Tour & Review ~ Once Should Be Enough ~ by ~ Nikky Kaye

Are friends with benefits worth the cost?

My cocky friend Will doesn’t believe that I’m frigid, but what does he know? His promises might make me shiver but it doesn’t mean he can give me a happy. He’s so confident he’s betting me money on it, and a thousand bucks is a lot of money to a poor college student.

Once should be enough to taunt him with “I told you so,” right?

But I didn’t know he meant trying everything once…

This super hot 25,000-word standalone new adult romance novella has adult language and themes, and a happy ending (several, actually).

A tremor went through me at the feel of his other hand higher up on my back, tracing the line of my spine.

“—a room!”

A nearby shout of laughter burst into my brain, bringing me back to reality. And that reality was that I was, once again, ready to climb Will like a tree in a public place. My face heated. Was I a closet exhibitionist?

“What do you think?” he asked, looking down at me. His eyes were almost black in the dim light of the bar, his mouth swollen from, well, me. I licked my lips.

Our lower halves were molded together as his palm slid further around my ass, to the damp little crease where my thigh started. I moaned. If he just stretched his fingers a little, he could touch—

“Think?” He wanted me to think? His wandering hands were this close to being the only thing holding me upright.

He nodded. “I know; it’s hard right now.”

“Uh huh.”

“Should we?”

“Should we what?”

His lips curved up. “Get a room.”

My earlier nervousness bubbled up again. As I started to look at the floor again—I think I had memorized the tile pattern by now—he broke his hands off my backside and tipped my chin up.

“Hey. We will do whatever you want,” he assured me.

And I believed that he meant it, that he would willingly go home with blue balls from hell if I stopped this. But if he was feeling anything like I was, we were standing at the top of the stairs with that Slinky again. I wanted—no, needed—him to push me over. He was just waiting for the word from me. Or maybe he wanted me to push him over this time.

“What do you want to do?” I asked him.

Yes, I was being passive-aggressive. I wanted to give him an out. Will may be an admitted pervert, but he was also a gentleman. He would never…

“I already told you,” he said. “I want to fuck you, however and wherever you want. Whenever, too, but now is good for me.”

“Here?” I squeaked.

“No. I need you in private.” He leaned close to my ear, letting out a dark chuckle. “I want to do things to you that are illegal in many states, and definitely against the health code, even in this place.”

If he could devour me whole with just his gaze, he would. I’d never felt so overwhelmed by just someone looking at me—into me—like my skin was made of glass. His breath was coming as short and fast as mine, as we both considered what those secret, wicked things would be.

“But I will wait, if it’s not tonight. Fuck, I’ll even take you out first. But I’m not waiting for the third date or anything like that,” he warned. “I’ve already gotten you out of your underwear.”

“I wasn’t wearing any.”

TBRreview

This was a quick read. A longer novella but not a full novel. Cass tosses out that she “thinks she hates sex” to her friend Will. Will considers it his duty as a friend (and as a male) to make Cass realize that her ex boyfriend just wasn’t the one for her.

Cass quickly tells Will that “Once Should Be Enough” to prove that she doesn’t like sex. Will is determined to prove her wrong.

A sweet, NA story about 2 friends crossing the line into something more.

4.5 stars!

Blog Tour & Review ~ The Do-Over ~ by ~ Julie A. Richman

sbpr-thedoover-bt

The Do-Over, an all-new emotional, second chance STANDALONE romance by Julie A. Richman is now LIVE!!

~ Sometimes, one degree is all that separates you from the one you were meant to be with. ~

Wes Bergman was sex on a stick.

We’d been circling one another our entire lives, mingling at the same clubs… attending the same events…sharing mutual acquaintances…yet we’d never actually met.

Until . . . we both boarded a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean. And it was like meeting my long, lost best friend for the first time. I hadn’t ever connected with a guy that way before.

But Wes had a girlfriend. So, when the week was over, he walked off the ship, unknowingly taking a piece of my heart with him.

Now, over a decade later, newly divorced, I’m the proverbial fish out of water. Dating has totally changed. Apps. Swipe left. Swipe right. Catfishing. Men my age want two things: twenty-five-year-olds—like my ex’s new child bride of a wife—or just a quick hook-up.

After a string of bad dates, I finally did something I never thought I’d do. I had a hot one-night stand with a really handsome guy I met online who didn’t even know my real name.

Turned out Mr. Fling is a big shot for my company’s newest client. And just my

luck, that client’s CEO is none other than . . . Wes Bergman.

Now I’m separated by one degree again from the man who stole my heart.

And Mr. Fling could destroy my chance of what I want most –

A Do-Over with Wes.

Excerpt:

His hand slowly stroking up and down the outside of my thigh is what roused me from my dream state. It was so soft and tender that I was getting more and more turned on with every movement. With my eyes still closed, I enjoyed the sensation. It wasn’t until his lips started brushing my shoulder, that I was unable to stifle a moan, revealing that I was awake.

“Good morning,” his whisper was hoarse.

“Mmm, good morning.” I stretched my body against his and turned my head to see his face hovering over mine, before our lips met.

“Sleep good?”

“Surprisingly, I did. I was so exhausted. Sorry for passing out on you last night,” I apologized.

“I think we both passed out the moment our heads hit the pillows.” Wes’ hand had migrated from my thigh to my stomach, where he softly drew circles with his fingertips.

Rolling over to face him, I pushed my hair out of the way, silently praying my humidity enhanced curls didn’t make me look like a deranged housewife, scaring the erection right out of the man. Slinging a leg over his thigh, I instantly got my answer. The crazy morning coif was not a cock killer. Thank God!

“You’re a morning person, I see.” Hiding my smile was not a possibility.

“Yeah, I am,” Wes laughed, moving closer to me, his eyes filled with the unmistakable desire to become lovers, something I’d dreamed about on the deck of a windjammer long ago.

“You can wake me up like this anytime.” I needed to let him know it was okay. He’d said he’d take it as slow as I wanted it and what I wanted right now was a slow rhythm of him plowing into me. Hard.

“Are you hard to wake up?” He was pressed up against me.

“I think you’ll figure out the secrets to rousing me.”

“You’ve already figured out the secrets to arousing me.” His voice still had that sexy edge of morning roughness to it, making me want to skip all foreplay and have him inside me.

“I’ll bet you have a few more secrets I can discover,” I said against his lips, as I shifted the leg I had slung over him, pressing my heat and wetness against his already throbbing cock.

Wes groaned and I could feel his smile against my lips. “You know you’re going to make it impossible to make slow, sweet love to you.”

“Good, because I don’t want it slow and sweet.”

Wes flipped me onto my back, “I can easily accommodate your wishes. Are you on anything or do I need to…”

“We’re good,” I assured him.

“Yes, we are.” He kissed my neck, then swiftly pulled my tank top over my head tossing it to the floor. “We’re going to be really good together. Of that, I have no doubt.”

And I knew he was right. Being with this man had been so perfect from the night we met. We meshed with ease and the result was pure joy.

The warmth in his eyes and smile made my breath catch, and in that moment, I was flooded with overwhelming emotion at how much I wanted him. How much I’d always wanted him. It was more than lust, beyond the heat of the moment. Wes Bergman was the man I had always wanted, from the night we met. That was clear to me now.

“I vote we skip the foreplay.” I wriggled out of my underwear.

“You’re on.” His smile told me he was taking on the challenge.

“You’re in,” I gasped, my breath catching in my throat, surprised at the swiftness with which he filled my request.

You know Kevin Bacon’s Six Degrees of Separation? Well Wes and Tara live their lives 1 degree of separation. They know a lot of the same people, have been in the same places at the same time but have never crossed paths until they’re both on a cruise and spend the night talking like BFFs. But Wes had a girlfriend and Doberman of a sister so never the twain shall meet – or whatever the saying is.

Fast forward some years. Tara is divorced, has a teenage daughter and is moving. Her company is hired by a great company to help them promote breast cancer awareness and this company’s product line. And wouldn’t you know it, Wes is the CEO of this company. And one of Tara’s most recent dates/hookups is an employee and friend of Wes’. Oy.

This book made me think about all the people in my life and if I have any Wes’ out there. And it also is a dose of reality in that breast cancer, cancer in general can affect ANY person so we need to truly cherish those we have.

“Flawlessly plotted and full of sex and suspense, Pakhan’s Salvation by V.F. Mason was an incredible story that I did not want to end.” – 5 Star Review from Just Let Me Read

V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her momma over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn’t happen.

Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it.When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.

Fifteen Nights by Zoe Lee

Publication Date: January 26th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

An all new STANDALONE novel from Zoe Lee is now LIVE!!

zoe-fifteen-nights-ebook-copy

The deeper they look, the harder they fall.

Jamie Houston was supposed to just be Leda Riveau’s Thursday night (and maybe Friday morning) fun.

Leda has awesome brothers, friends who are as allergic to emotions as she is, and a great job. She’s back in her hometown, Maybelle County, after a romantic and professional disaster three years ago in Nashville. It might not be what she planned when she was a teenager, but it’s perfect.

Or, well, it’s almost perfect. Because Leda is still angry and bitter about Nashville, and everyone knows it. She hates romance and doesn’t do relationships, and her younger brother’s trying to get her to be nicer. But she’s not nice. She even has her own hashtag: #ledagoesnuclear.

Then she sees Jamie again, when he’s between serious girlfriends, and discovers that the chemistry she’s always suspected is right there, ready to explode if she lets it.

Jamie is a serial monogamist who’s always liked Leda, but the timing’s never been right. After he sees her while they’re both single for the first time since high school, he knows he wants to be with her. Everybody knows she doesn’t date and doesn’t get serious, but he’s always serious, especially because he has a three-year-old son and a three-hour commute to get from work to Leda.

What starts out as a casual Thursday night arrangement gets messy when Leda and Jamie also have interfering friends, sad brothers, a pushy mom, an amazing son, and chemistry so intense it’s scary.

How does a man who needs forever win a woman who hates romance?

Excerpt:

I stalk-strolled towards her, my patience stretched paper-thin by desire.

I crowded close, so tall and wide that she couldn’t see anything else but me, and my hand cupped her waist. She stumbled against the wall, her feet wide apart to keep her balanced.

“You’re so damn tall,”I murmured. Still a few inches shorter than I was in her heels, she angled her head back, her hair scraping the textured wallpaper, to meet my eyes again. My thumb stroked in arcs over her hips and I saw her try to suppress a shiver. “You must be six-three in those heels. Usually I can’t look a woman in the eye unless we’re lying down.

”Her eyes flashed fire and she asked belligerently, “Are you going to keep me here till midnight?”

I ran my fingertips down her earlobes and chandelier earrings, not bothering to confirm what was obvious. I knew she didn’t want to go anywhere either. If Leda Riveau didn’t want to be somewhere, she sure as hell would’ve told me so and moved.

When the crowd screamed and chorused “Happy New Year,”I half-smiled.

My face dipped until the tips of our noses grazed together, testing the boundaries, and when she only parted her red lips, I laid mine against them for the first time.

Light flickered behind my closed eyelids as her mouth softened a fraction.

But I didn’t want her soft, I wanted her fierce and dynamic, so I caught her around the waist. My voice dropped in volume and register while I demanded, “Kiss me harder, Leda.”

Her arms wound around me and her nails dug into my neck, scratching hard as she swooped in and bit at my bottom lip before her nimble tongue pushed into my mouth.

I couldn’t have stopped the heartfelt moan that escaped into the air between our open lips.

But at the noise, she pulled back sharply and looked at me, brows creasing. I didn’t know what had made Dunk say what he had, but I knew plenty of gossip about everyone in Maybelle, and I’d never heard so much as a word about her sleeping around.

I wanted to reassure her, but I knew that the usual platitudes about how she was beautiful and Dunk was a fucking idiot wouldn’t work because they’d make her feel too vulnerable. My best shot was probably self-deprecation, to shift the attention to my shit and away from her.

So I hooked her hair behind her ears, smoothing the disarray I’d caused.

“Do you know how many women run from this?”I pointed at my eyes. “I always have to hide it. I haven’t been able to do that with you tonight, and all you’ve done is stare right back.”

“I, uh, like it. It makes me feel special,”she practically stammered. “And that’s incredibly…”She swallowed, her eyes dipping down to my mouth again. “…tempting.”

My gaze sharpened with desire. “I would like to make love with you.”

She jabbed a finger in my chest. “You cannot call it that,”she ordered. “No bullshit about how you were moon-eyed over me half our lives ago when we didn’t know shit about shit.”

I grabbed her finger and reeled her in.

“You can stare at me all you want,”she half-babbled, “but this is just good chemistry.”

TBRreview

I’m not gonna lie, I kinda like when the male is the monogamist and the female isn’t looking to settle down. It’s the girl power in me lol. Plus I love that she has her own hashtag; #ledagoesnuclear.

Leda is back in town and causing a stir. She’s helping at the restaurant/bar her family owns while helping with obligatory fundraisers. Life is what it is for her when she runs into her best friend’s older brother, Jamie. For years, Leda had a slight interest in him but either she was involved or he was. Now neither of them is…

Jamie has liked Leda since they were kids and now seems to be a golden opportunity to get things going with her. Except Leda doesn’t want a relationship and Jamie is a serial monogamist. Hence the problem.

I liked that in this story, there was a deep down reason for why Leda is so anti-relationship and why she’s more prone to one night stands. There was a depth to her reasoning not just because of something that happened previously.

4 stars!

First off, I see Lori Foster’s name, and I’m gonna sign up for the promo and buy the book. I’ve read so many of her books and not one has ever disappointed me! She definitely knows how to write strong, MMA-fighter, security males and the sassy women who captivate them!

Leese is a former fighter turned bodyguard who has been hired to find and protect Catalina. But Cat isn’t the easiest person to protect for a variety of reasons. She’s been used to taking care of herself while on the run for things she mistakenly heard. Plus, the people who hired the Body Armor agency to find and protect her might just be the ones Cat can’t trust.

This book was suspenseful and thrilling and had the hot times you expect with a Lori Foster novel. I can’t wait for Justice’s story! I feel like there’s more than meets the eye to that massive man.

She almost screamed for her driver when she saw the man in the sharply cut black suit slide into the seat next to her. His riveting blue eyes fixated on her, and Brynn’s mouth dropped open.

Oh, shit!

“Well, well, Brynn Alder,” he said in a voice akin to honey. “I thought that was you. Forgive the intrusion, but I have wanted to meet you. I’m Declan Corinth.” He held out his hand.

Brynn stared at his hand as if it was a nuclear missile. What in the hell is he doing here?

When her eyes rose to his face, his good looks made her mouth go dry. With black wavy hair and sharp blue eyes, he was even sexier than his portrait. Declan’s features were sharp, but his nose was a little flat and his chin somewhat small compared to his square jaw. He had thin lips that complimented his looks. Just the idea of kissing those lips made Brynn want to—

Shake his hand! “Mr. Corinth.” She took his hand. “Why are you in my car?”

While holding her hand, his eyes examined her face, sending a tingling sensation up from Brynn’s toes.

“I was coming to Ren’s, and I saw you. I’m ashamed to say I’m a fan, Ms. Adler. I’ve read all your books. I think your interpretation of the BDSM lifestyle is unique.”

“Interesting choice of words, Mr. Corinth.” The fact that the attractive man had read her books was even more unnerving than his being in her car. “Are you familiar with BDSM?”

He kept a firm grip on her hand. “I have several associates who are ardent admirers of the lifestyle.”

She yanked her hand away. “By associates, I take it you mean Ren and his little society.”

“Ren is a business associate, Ms. Adler. As for his society, I’m familiar with it.”

She sat back in her seat, studying Declan’s compelling features. “How did you end up in one of his portraits?”

He hiked up a dark eyebrow, his eyes brimming with amusement. “You’ve seen the painting? And what did you think?”

“Ren told me a local businesswoman commissioned it. She was apparently quite taken with you.”

“Mabel Bergeron was more than taken with me. She was obsessed.”

Declan’s soulful chuckle resonated in Brynn’s groin, and then she was struck by the name. “Mabel Bergeron? But she ….” Her voice trailed off, afraid to say what she was thinking.

“She owns a bondage club in the Garden District.” Declan sat back in his seat. “Your ex-husband was a frequent customer of hers. We met at Mabel’s club.”

A cold realization settled over Brynn. Declan Corinth was a player—a Dom. How else would he know about the bondage club Nathan had belonged to, or be friends with Ren Plancharde? Feeling foolish, Brynn glanced at Bob, still awaiting instructions behind the wheel.

“I should go. I’m keeping you from your meeting with Ren.”

“Nonsense.” Declan motioned for Bob to start the car. “I’ll see you back to The Shallows. You shouldn’t be alone today.”

“You know where I live?”

“I heard you took over Nathan’s old penthouse.”

Brynn’s reservations mounted as the engine roared to life. “No, Bob, wait,” she called. “Mr. Corinth was just leaving.”

The shock in Declan’s blue eyes was entertaining. She suspected that, being a Dom, he wasn’t used to having a woman tell him what to do.

With a curt nod, he reached for the car door and then glanced back at her. “Can I ask you a question?”

His voice reminded her of a dark whiskey. Smooth, soulful, and reaching down to her—

“Of course, Mr. Corinth.”

He shimmied closer to her. “It’s Declan, not Mr. Corinth.”

Her toes were tingling again. “What would you like to know?”

“How do you get ideas for your stories? They seem so real.”

Brynn shook her head, convinced that he was baiting her. If he was an associate of Ren’s and knew Nathan, then he must have known of her past.

“A writer never divulges where she gets her inspiration.” Brynn smugly sat back in her seat. “Good evening, Mr. Corinth.”

The surly grin he gave her damn near knocked her to the car floor. He was even more devastating when he was angry.

Declan shoved the card door open. As the sound of the rain hitting the sidewalk drifted into the car, he said, “We’ll see each other again, Ms. Adler.”

Brynn just smiled and waited for him to leave.

He bounded into the pouring rain and slammed the door closed. Brynn sank into her cold leather seat as he jogged through the open gate and into Ren’s pristine courtyard.

“No, we will not see each other again, Mr. Corinth.” She rocked her head back and closed her eyes. “That would be very dangerous for me.”

“Nelumbo Nucifera is a cleverly crafted book that will keep readers hanging on the edge of their seat and FEELING some very powerful emotions. It is not necessarily a romance rather, a psychological thriller with a romance added in making it the PERFECT read for fans of either genre.” ~Pretty Little Books

Yellow tape still concealed Burbank Woods. The fresh woodland had been engulfed in a misty grey fog, the road stained in thick black soot with fractured pieces of glass that glistened in the early morning sunlight on the morning the car was found. Even days later the smell of burnt rubber and plastic hung in the air. The debris remaining of the mangled wreck made it tough to identify a possible victim—until one of the police officers discovered a licence plate, crumpled like a scrunched up piece of paper, but not too damaged that the numbers and letters couldn’t be read. After a simple enquiry, it was discovered that the car was registered to Mrs. Gabriela Parker, a woman who had been reported missing by her husband just a few short hours before. This wasn’t just an accident. Isla could feel it, taste it, smell it; there was so much more to this. From across the room, Isla saw him—the man she was sure was responsible for his wife’s disappearance. She knew that there was much more to this than what the sonofabitch was letting on. His arrogance infuriated her. He had a certain swagger in his walk, making a statement with every step.
“What the fuck is he doing here already?”
“Parker’s lawyer got the conference moved forward. They want optimum viewing time. People want to hear a statement from the husband,” Hardy answered, lifting a steaming polystyrene cup to his lips, gently blowing the steam before he took a loud sip.
“Of course they do. It just proves he’s even more of a slick sonofabitch. I wonder what kind of cock and bull sob story he is going to invent. This should be good.” Isla grabbed a notebook and a pen and headed across to the growing crowd. Kyle was surrounded by hungry journalists. She pushed her slender body through the sea of people.
“It’s almost time,” a PR woman shouted.
“It’s not a bad turn-out,” Hardy said to Isla.
“Middle-class white woman, wife to a powerful investment banker goes missing, a body that we can’t identify, yet. Of course it was going to be a good turn-out. These scum suckers live for the drama, don’t they?” Isla had a love/hate relationship with the press. It annoyed her how involved they became. They acted as if they, themselves, were cops. But, they also had their uses too.
Kyle’s dark hair was slicked back. He was dressed in business casual blues; he walked into the conference room. Isla could see the awaiting journalists perk up when he came in, nudging one another, pointing. Isla could lip read Marsha Henley’s lips. “That’s him.” Marsha Henley was a pit bull of a journalist. If there was blood, she could smell it for miles off. Over the years she and Isla had locked horns, but now they had reached a level of respect for one another—two women in a man’s world, fighting for truth and justice. The PR woman came into view again; she placed a cardboard poster of Gaby Parker on an easel. The blown up picture of Mrs Gabriela Parker showed a beautiful woman with flawless skin, full lips and dark chocolate eyes. She had a thick main of perfectly groomed crimson red hair that framed her stunning features. In the picture she was smiling. But it was a smile that Isla knew wasn’t real. She called it the “Stepford smile.” It was forced—nothing but a show. Behind that smile was a woman that was dying inside. The old cliché was true: Eyes are the windows to the soul.
“Lips may do the talkin’ but eyes do the tellin’.” That is what Isla’s mother had always said, and it was a truth that Isla had lived by. Even before she became a cop.
As soon as Kyle climbed onto the platform and took a seat on an aluminium chair, the room started to illuminate with cameras as they flashed repetitively. The scuffle of feet scraping against the floor and the constant clicking sound filled the room. Isla folded her arms across her body and kept her gaze on Kyle.
Let the world see what a great showman you really are.

When Kyle went to his car, the club was aglow with flashing blue and red lights. The wail of sirens assaulted his ears. Two ambulances were parked outside.
He caught a glimpse of a woman being carried out on a stretcher. Police had concealed the club with yellow tape. The last thing that he needed was to get pulled into this shit. To his relief, as the gate opened, he was able to get straight on the road. The timing couldn’t have been worse. Right now he needed Randy, but now he was embroiled with the night’s events. Kyle pulled out into the interstate. He pushed his foot down heavy on the accelerator; his pulse was beating hard in his chest. He tried to think back: Had there been any clues? He debated the pros and cons of going after her. If he found her, he knew that his rage would win and he wouldn’t be in control anymore. He imagined her, out there somewhere, laughing at him, thinking that she had gotten away with it. Meanwhile, he was under the microscope with the cops—especially with Detective Isla Bitch Morany. Even thinking about that woman made him want to punch something; he would love to wipe her smug know it all look off her face. But her badge protected her; it acted as a shield, because if she was working a normal job, there was no way she wouldn’t have had a fist or two to knock her back in line.
Kyle thought about the money he had parted with since this all began; he was satisfied that the bulk of his funds were off shore; Morany may have uncovered his dirty dealings, and they were enough to get him in hot water, but his reserves would be enough to save him, probably. He drove past a parade of billboards advertising the Love of God:
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
It felt as if that sign had been placed there especially for him. Things between him and Gaby had never been smooth, but he thought he had things in a structured order, and he was desperate to claw it back. He decided that he was going to do just as God had instructed: “Be wise as a serpent.”
  1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I was in primary school. At parents evening my teacher told my mum I would be wasting my life if I didn’t become an author. It made sense, I always loved reading and writing…

  1. How long does it take you to write a book?

It really depends. With my first, it was around three months. With my current title I started it with a first couple of chapters, and then took a six month break. But when I went back to it, I couldn’t stop and had 80,000 words completed in under three weeks. It was crazy. I would work into the night, go to bed, look after my three year old, go to my day job…and start all over again!

  1. What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

I sit at my desk and just let the words come to me. I have to listen to music. It is a must. Music puts me in the zone.

  1. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I honestly don’t think that I have one!

  1. How do books get published?

I study publishing houses and agents and submit to the ones that I think my work would fit. I am currently published with two independent publishing houses.

  1. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Ideas come to me all the time. My mind, never, ever, shuts up. I carry a notebook around in my bag and jot down ideas as they come. For research, I google, I buy books to study a subject, and I talk to expert people. For Nelumbo Nucifera, I spoke to real women that had been in domestic abusive relationships. So, the information in the book is very raw, and very real. I also consulted an expert in the field of mental illness—a subject which is also highlighted in Nelumbo. I want my writing to really speak to people, so I want to bring them into the story by knowing my stuff!

  1. When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I started many books from the age of 10, but I never ever finished a actual book until I was 33, and that was the first book I published!

  1. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I hang out with my husband and my son…they are my world! I also work at a hospital which I love. I enjoy reading and watching movies, seeing my friends, and travelling. Travel is something that I have always loved and want to do more of!

  1. What does your family think of your writing?

My family support me 1 million percent. They were the people that kept encouraging me to pursue the dream of becoming a published author. I couldn’t do it without them.

  1. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

How much I can feel emotionally for characters that are born out of my imagination!

  1. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I have written two books: Till Death Us Do Part was my debut, and Nelumbo Nucifera is my new release. I am currently working on my third. Till Death will always have a special place in my heart, because it was my first. But, Nelumbo Nucifera is my favorite, I feel like my writing was taken to another level. I also love the fact that I am able to donate to some really amazing causes with this novel.

  1. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?

Always write about a story that you believe in. Market trends come and go, but writing from your heart is timeless. For the practical side, use the eye of a professional editor, and ask as many honest people to critique your work as possible. The bottom line is: never stop writing.

  1. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I have had some really beautiful messages from readers. Hearing from them is incredible and so empowering. The messages that I have received are usually because something in my book has resonated with them. The last message I received was from a reader who is married to a U.S. Marine, she said that my writing was so true to the feelings she had felt when her husband was deployed. Their story is so special, I am so delighted that my book fictional book felt real to real people!

  1. Do you like to create books for adults?

Yes. The only children’s story I have ever written is for my son!

  1. What do you think makes a good story?

Characters that I can relate to and a book that has me thinking about it long after I have turned the final page!
  1. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

When I was really young. An astronaut and a vet. But from aged 10, a novelist!

  1. What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?

I have been to Stratford- upon-Avon (home of Shakespeare’s) several times. I have been to his house, and explored the area’s that he wrote. For my own writing, I rarely get into anything outside of my home, but when I do, it’s the beach.

  1. What is the first book that made you cry?

Marley and Me!

  1. What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?

Slating other author’s work or opinions. There are bullies out there, sadly I have seen it happen. Authors should always support one another not rip one another apart!

  1. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Definitely energizes, even with little sleep after writing something I love, I am still buzzing.

  1. What are common traps for aspiring writers?

Sometimes an idea of a story might be good but may need several re-writes before it will be ready. Remember that your first draft should never be your last draft…

  1. Does a big ego help or hurt writers?

In my opinion it hurts them. I am unlikely to buy a book written by somebody who is up their own backside. It is important to engage with readers, they are your bread and butter, the fuel to your craft!

  1. What is your writing Kryptonite?

My phone! I end up checking Instagram when I should be writing.

  1. Have you ever gotten reader’s block?

I have started books which I have just not connected to for one reason or another. I like to give a book a chance, but if I just don’t feel it, I set it aside or give it away to somebody else who may appreciate it.

  1. Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?

No. I want to put my real name to the work I put out there. I may change my mind later down the line, but not for the foreseeable future.

  1. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I like to be original, I follow my heart when I write and hope that it will give readers something special.

  1. Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?

I think it would be tough, only because I pour emotion into my own writing. But every writer is unique.

  1. What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I have a close community of author friends. They are amazing. We always bounce ideas off one another. We swap drafts and they give their opinion on what they think works, and what doesn’t.

  1. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

All of my books to date are standalones, I can’t see that changing anytime soon…but never say never!

  1. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

Take the opportunity to go and see the world. Freedom to come and go as you please is rare. Adventure nurtures the soul!

  1. How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

I took my writing far more seriously. If something didn’t feel right in a chapter, I wouldn’t just leave it—I changed it. With my second novel, I used the delete button a lot. It wasn’t about reaching a word count, it was making the words count!

  1. What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?

Investing in editing, and taking refresher courses.

  1. What authors did you dislike at first but grew into?

There are no authors that I disliked and then liked. I always loved Emily Giffin but one of her books didn’t hit the spot with me, but that would never stop me buying her future books.

  1. What did you do with your first advance?

  1. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

  1. What are the most important magazines for writers to subscribe to?

  1. What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?

  1. How do you balance making demands on the reader with taking care of the reader?

  1. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

  1. What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters?

To give them a voice that readers want to hear!

  1. How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

I have a novel which I was working on prior to my debut that I just couldn’t connect with, I doubt that will ever see the light of day again. I am currently working on my third novel, I hope to complete that by early summer.

  1. What does literary success look like to you?

A strong fan base of readers that become your cheerleaders and will keep buying your books. Bestselling novels that everybody knows about…and the blessing to call writing your full-time job.

  1. What’s the best way to market your books?

  1. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

For research, I google, I buy books to study a subject, and I talk to expert people. For Nelumbo Nucifera, I spoke to real women that had been in domestic abusive relationships. So, the information in the book is very raw, and very real. I also consulted an expert in the field of mental illness—a subject which is also highlighted in Nelumbo. I want my writing to really speak to people, so I want to bring them into the story by knowing my stuff!

  1. Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?

I would consider myself a very spiritual person in general. I always have been. I keep journals, and that is the area of my writing that is very private, and where my spiritual roots are deeply embedded.

Ok initially I couldn’t stand Brett. He was just a little too cocky for me. Self confidence is fine but he just seemed to ignore everyone and everything around him. HOW WRONG I WAS!!! By 40% in, I was wanting to crawl through my phone (was reading at work on my Kindle app) and add Brett to my long list of book boyfriends.

Lani comes home for a family funeral and finds out her sister is pregnant. So she convinces her to stay longer than the weekend she’d originally planned. Then she picks up an assignment of sorts – to write good PR pieces about her ex best friend Brett Walker. Oh yeah and Lani can’t stand him.

While Lani is learning about Brett and writing these pieces, she’s learning more about him and herself. And what drove her from Whiskey Key and if it can convince her to stay.

Can’t wait for more!!!!

5 stars!
